At first I was not sure how I felt about the story at times it was repetitive and predictable. I stuck with it and now I am looking forward to hearing the next book. It ended at a place where I was so into the storyline that it left me wanting to know what happens next and to me that makes for a good book. At first I thought the book was good against evel but that is not the whole of it. It's also about trust and love and what you would sacrific for it. I did like the fact that the story was not filled with a lot of descriptive sex scenes. I liked both narrators and how they brought a good first person perspective to the storyline, please keep them.

suspenseful, intriguing, romantic and tastefully sexy. This is my third time listening to the Vaughn /Goodeve performance which is very on point , including their inflections, attitude and timing. so looking forward to the next two entries scheduled for release!

This is an odd duck.

I'm not sure how I feel about this book. It's written in first person in alternating chapters from the perspective of the main two characters. The heroine is a young woman who seems to have plenty of time on her hands, though she's an up and coming photographer. She lives in an apartment next door to her best friend from college, and the two go out to clubs together. It's at a club late one night that she literally runs into a guy that she's strangely attracted to, but the attraction is unsettling. It's a big mystery who the guy is, and then there's another mysterious guy. Bad stuff happens. People close to her die. She's told she has a destiny that she denies, of course, while running around putting herself in danger.

It's pretty tame and somewhat predictable stuff. Kind of soporific, actually, though it weaves a spell. I listened right to the end to find out what was going on. Not sure I'd continue this one, probably not. Maybe if it's cheap I'll buy the next one on Audible for when I can't sleep.

Very enjoyable new series

This was a really good book. It had a unique story line and the characters were good. The best part is it was a romance but didn't have all the gratuitous sex in it that so many do. The female narrator was not good at all. Flat and robotic much of the time. The male narrator was great. It did have several F bombs which weren't needed, but for $2.00 you it was well worth it.

Could not get into it... just drags and drags!

I like this genre, but I hated this book. Couldn't finish it. Even with only two hours left and curious about the end of the series, I can't make myself listen through two more books!

Deacon Chalk Book 1.5.. Worth a listen.

This is a short story that takes place between the 1st and 2nd books in the Deacon Chalk Series. I normally do not buy short stories, but I had a $10 credit burning a hole in my pocket and decided to give it a go.

This story is refered to in the 2nd book in the series. It definitely added value to get the back story on one of the more interesting characters in the series, that being Ronnie and her mysterious ghost spiders.

As usual, this is a fast paced action filled story. It isn't particularly deep, but given the nature of a short story the author did an excellent job. I actually found that I liked this short story better than the latest (3rd) book in the series. The story runs about 2 hours and costs just shy of $5. If you have enjoyed the Deacon Chalk series so far you will like this short story.

Honestly, you don't need any of the short stories to enjoy the series if you are tight on money. I really hope the author will put all the short stories into an anthology. That would definitely be worth a credit. Still the story is good. The narrarator as before does a great job with Deacon but has a limited range for other characters. He still pulls it off nicely. If you don't mind spending $5 for a 2 hour story you will enjoy this one.

So good it should be considered a full book

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

No. Don't get me wrong the book is an amazing sequel to an amazing book. My concern is that my friend would feel lost not to mention it would ruin the first novel because it spoils it in an attempt to catch the reader up.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Deacon. He's so complex. I want to label him an antihero but that's too simplistic. He has many layers that are getting pealed away as the series progresses.

Have you listened to any of Jim Beavers other performances before? How does this one compare?

I've listed on the previous Deacon Chalk books and his amazing narration holds up.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

How much I cared for certain female character who involved in the climax, I don't want to spoil it, which was shocking because she was only in the story for five minutes and in the series as a brief mention before that.

A amazing story but should be read after the previous entries.

Action Packed Excitement

Where does Cold Blooded rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?

Amanda Carlson does it again in this full cast of action pack supernatural adventure. I have followed the series since the first book I am happy to say in the 3 rd book we are not disappointed. We actually learn more about Jessica powers and what it means to others. We all see a lot new supernatural creatures come to battle. I have to say I love her relationship with her mate and the ease she find when she is in trouble. I really look forward to the next book and hope we don't have long to wait.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I have to say Jessica because she is always calm to certain point and instead of fighting the fact she is the first female werewolf she keep on trying. She never leaves a man behind and isn't afraid to do the killing her self instead of having others do it like in so many other books. She is a strong female.

Which scene was your favorite?

When they finally get to form there mate bound and she wakes to see they tore the cabin up. It is so funny

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Another Adventure for Jessica and the Gang

Im going to try my best to avoid any spoilers for previous books in the Jessica McClain series. I know it is a newer series by a relatively new author. There are still a lot of people may not have read books one and two yet. I highly recommend that you resolve that issue ASAP.

Once again, Amanda knocked it out of the park with Cold Blooded. This book is just as fast paced and action packed as the previous books. We get to spend plenty of time with some the favorite characters weve seen in the past, especially a certain cat that had very little time in book two. *smiles*

This book picks up right were book two left off. Jessica has found and rescued Rourke.. (Woohoo!) They finally get their time together, especially some alone. While it isnt long lasting, it is well worth it. My favorite quote comes from Jessica while at Rourkes cabin, We broke the countertop. This really made me laugh out loud.

Tyler, Danny, Nick, Naomi and Ray are all with Jessica on this adventure. Jessica goes from one piece of chaos to another, it seems neverending for her. She visits the witches, fights demons and sorcerers and stops by to see the vampires, and that is just part of the story.

We learn a lot about Jessica. She is really coming into her powers. We also learn how powerful her blood really is. We also meet several other very powerful beings. We also learn a lot about some the powerful beings we already know. I dont want to spoil anything, but there is a lot of behind the scenes plotting for power going on.

A thrilling follow-up

I was so happy to have found this series! It has a unique twist on the Urban Fantasy trope, but definitely not boring. Yes, it had a bit more legalese than what Im used to but it was interesting.

Good plot development and amazing characters.

Liked the book more than I thought I would

A little slow in places but overall really enjoyable. Narrator was a little unnatural--quite a bit of affectation in her voice. Looking forward to the next one.

Terrific, even better than the first.

This is the second book in the series, we find Linnet in Hollywood co-chairing an arbitration, with her vampire boss David - the dispute? do the Alfar (elves) have more of an advantage when going for acting parts within the film industry. Add that some Alfar appear to be going on a killing spree, things in tinsel town are tense.

What I love about this series is that it is not one dimensional, it has layers and I like layers, her inner dialogue, quick thinking and observations had me both chuckling and just wanting more. I especially liked the working relationship with David, although not always comfortable you actually see the rapport and respect growing.

PB does not romanticise the 'Powers' , what a refreshing change! you see their mistakes, vulnerabilities and flaws, with mini plots going on around the main drama, I was not bored.

Add an excellent plot, this is no run of the mill fantasy. I have given 5 stars because of how much I enjoyed the story and varied characters any niggles where washed away.. It real helped me escape for a few hours, great entertainment and narration.

The Last Vampire

I liked this story.I think that if the repetition would have been reduced that the book could have been much shorter.I found the narrator,Erica L Risburg ,distracting at the very least.She did not read it like one normally would,taking no breaks where there should have been some and breaking at odd times.Her voice is nice,but her character voices aren't very good.The story,Emma is made into the last vampire and she turns into a wolf.I still am not sure how this happens and what the difference is between her and the other shapshifting wolves.Over all though,it is a good story.I was provided this book free by the author,narrator or the publisher.

This was the most original vampire story I've ever experienced. It was so different which isn't easy to accomplish. The book started with an apocalyptic event, that immidiately had me hooked. Our main character survives, to find herself in trouble later. She is rescued and changed into a vampire. She was determined to keep her humanity, and went pretty far to preserve it. I thought the ending was perfect for this story. This was my fourth book from this author, and I have loved each one. I really enjoyed this audiobook, and I fully intend to check out more of her books! I highly recommend this book even if you don't love vampires.

Unusual Vampire Story

How did the narrator detract from the book?

In listening to this book I found the narrator Erica Risberg to be extremely distracting. She does not pause between sentences or other book delineations and I found myself focused on trying to figure out what was happening due to this vs enjoyment of the book

Any additional comments?

I overall enjoyed this book despite the narrator. Towards the end of the book I had either gotten used to her reading or maybe she had improved a little. I found the idea of the end of the world to be very fascinating and I wish the author had focused on that more. The idea of the last vampire was interesting but not overly intriguing and to be honest I wish the end of the world saga had been told without that part, which I realize is the main focus of the book.

Snakes on a plane don't deem quite so bad....

The opening is great (especially the plane violence) and I immediately became engaged to the 2 protagonists, especially Patrick.

However good the story and concept was, the plotting and writing doesn't hold up.

Several characters are introduced and dropped (or killed off) soon thereafter. One potential great adult female character is introduced but never really developed and just disappears. Some plot lines peter out (Claire's involvement with the immigrant group?)

With some serious editing (this might have been a tight, 8 to 10 hour thriller) and tighter plotting, this could have been a great thriller. Although it was still a fun read, it could have been so much more.

The narrator, who is also the author, has a deep, resonating voice, but after several hours, it can be very distracting, detracting from the enjoyment of the story.

The narrator, who is also the author, makes it difficult to embrace the story. Every single line is in a deep, sinsiter voice that feels over dramatic. It gets distracting and tiresome. Great story though.

If you could sum up Seance for a Vampire in three words, what would they be?

Fun. Addictive. Enticing.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Seance for a Vampire?

I think the part where Dracula was under an enthrallment and nearly got killed as a result was probably one of the more interesting moments. On second thought I think my favorite part (as I write this) is when Watson summons Dracula out of desperation and Dracula shows up just in time to take the place of the driver of the carriage that abducts Watson shortly after the summoning spell.

Have you listened to any of Robin Bloodworths other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have been listening to this entire book series read by Robin Bloodworth. I love them. My only regret is knowing that Fred Saberhagen (the author) passed away in 2007 so after A Coldness in The Blood there won't be any more of these Dracula books. By the way, why is A Coldness in the blood listed for pre-order but not as book 10 of The New Dracula when that is clearly what it is?

I could never pull off listening to any of Fred Saberhagen audio book in just one sitting. My behind would be numb and that long a span of time sitting still is bad for circulation. I listen to it on my computer.

I love this book series. I'm completely addicted to it. This is a very under-rated book series. It's sad that things like Twilight are popular but truly good vampire book series like this one fall into obscurity. I was growing sick of modern vampires when I discovered the Fred Saberhagen Dracula books in 2011. I wish I had discovered them while the author was still alive. I love these more than Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles (which I had been addicted to as a teenager).

Why is A Coldness in the blood listed for pre-order but not as book 10 of The New Dracula when that is clearly what it is?

Homles and Dracula, together again

This time it is Dracula who must rescue his nephew (though in this book Holmes is referred to as his cousin, even though in the preceding book Dracula identified him as a nephew of sorts).

Told much of the time from Watson's perspective, I thoroughly enjoyed his character. Forced to acknowledge the existence of vampires in the Holmes-Dracula file, he nonetheless is reticent to summon the Prince when Holmes is abducted, even though he knows it is the best course of action. Even so, the two men form an uneasy alliance in order to discover what has happened to Holmes. Throw in a crazy former pirate vampire in search of a lost treasure, and it is lots of fun and intrigue. I won't spoil it here for you, but the resolution of the treasure hunt was an interesting twist.

I wish Saberhagen had been able to pen a few more of these stories.

Available since July in paperback, but I waited until this was available in Audible and I am glad I did. Hoyt seems an odd choice for the younger Jackson Lee, but it works as flashback once you get used to his style. And he does well with the range of voices, male and female.

The book hooks you from the start -- you feel for the anti-social, sarcastic psychic, Jackson Lee. The book could have been longer (ended too soon for me), but the ending leaves me believing this is only the beginning and we will see more of Jackson Lee, which is a good thing.

And now if all of the Cal Leandros series were available on Audible, I would be a very happy reader. Rob Thurman has a signature style of razor sharp sarcasm that plays well in audible format.

Dark non-supernatural supernatural story...

I was quite surprised at how much I liked this book. It is quite dark and it isn't full of various supernatural beings trying to have sex with each other (what you usually find in this genre). It actually felt more like a mystery than an urban fantasy, or ghost story. Actually, it wasn't a ghost story at all, and barely an urban fantasy... there are no special abilities here, other than those of the main character, and the only other 'oddity' in the setting was the technical capability that caused the 'mystery' in the first place (so, in many ways, it is closer to sci-fi supernatural than fantasy supernatural).

The characters are extremely well-drawn (well, the main ones anyway), and we like the good guys and we even understand the bad guys, to a point.
