    Critic Reviews:
"A gorgeous grave-throbber." (Time Out)"Draws the reader into a twilight world of mystic fantasy which is as irresistible as a pulse beat." (North Eastern Evening Gazette)"... her most captivating to date." (Peterborough Evening Telegraph)"A great novel, which is entertainingly frightening, splendidly romantic and erotic, and darkly suspenseful. The true Queen of the vampire novel." (Black Tears Magazine)"'The series is among the best of those spawned by the wave of fashionability which has caught up 'revisionist' vampire fiction in the last twenty years. All three volumes have been written with an emotional fervour and vividly Decadent style which are perfectly suited to the subject-matter and all three have maintained a sense of philosophical enquiry which patiently, perceptively and politely raises questions about the reasons for our fascination with the vampire and related mythological figures... The series so far adds up to one of the most striking and most intriguing exercises in modern fantasy fiction; it may yet be further augmented." (Vector)

One of the best vampire series
One of my favorite vampire romance series. After owning over 500 vampire books I only keep my favorites, this is one of those series that stays
    intelligent and sensous
I am blown away by this author's descriptions. She paints with words, creating beauty out of horror, layering human and inhuman emotions with subtle grace. The entire series is both lyrical and terrifying, intelligent and erotic. The setting (early 1900's) is almost exotic, and she stayed true to the time-period. I would highly recommend the 'Blood' series to everyone!
    Complex, Romantic, and Emotional
I'll be a little honest, I wasn't sure where this story would go. Don't get me wrongââI loved this book as much as I loved all the others, but with new characters and a new romance introduced, there wasn't as much focus on my two favourite 1900's vampires, Karl and Charlotte. But I kept reading, trusting the author, and I think this might be one of my favourite in the series! The story was complex and engaging, with characters intertwining and clashing with each other while they struggled with their emotions. I was intrigued by Violette from the last book, though it took a while before I could understand and sympathize with her. In this book, she is far more complex and troubled, which leads to an event near the end that had my heart aching.

My first SM Reine, not my last!
I really enjoyed this, but I wouldn't call it a light read. It's gritty and sometimes violent. It's also sexy. I found it very well written for this genre. It held my interest to the end.
Elise is a demon, or at least she was made into a demon when she was drafted into the war between Heaven and Hell. She has a good heart, despite her powers and inclinations, and I liked her. She works as an exorcist and has been invited by law enforcement to investigate a paranormal murder. People in the town are going missing, and at least one has been found ripped apart by werewolves.
There are witches, sorcerers, werewolves, and others. Reference is made to organizations that populate other series written by Reine -- books I haven't read, but I wasn't lost. I look forward to reading the next book in this series, and in fact, I hope Audible gets the whole series, and that Kate Udall narrates them all. She brought a dark tone to the story that made it even better.
    ughh!
I couldn't get into it:( I really wanted to. I tried. but narrator's voice didn't change for characters well. And story just seemed blah. sorry
    interesting
Was looking for something after mortal instruments. Good but not as good, wish there was another great series out there like MI or the hollow series by Kim Harrison
    loved!
I really love and to story. It kept me coming back and listening and listening. The characters where great and lease is super deep and really fun to listen to.
    JUST GETS BETTER & BETTER
James is the biggest waste of breath, WTH! And does no one notice Elise takes a beating like no other to save everyone over & over. Could anyone just give her a break & appreciate her for a change sheesh!!

    YUCK!!!! Narrator or author? IDK!
I am all for a good vampire story, but the voice and accent of the narrator is totally awful. Also, some of the wrong pronunciations of the simplest words are just sad.
    I seriously dislike the narrator.
the narrator is terrible. she is out of sync with the flow of the writing. I do like the story, I find it light and entertaining.
    Performance
The reading was choppy with no inflection. Monotone, pauses for breath timed wrong with sentence structure making it hard to follow. Ended up just reading the book. So much better that way. I use audible for when I drive long distance for work. This this destroyed the story.
    Great book, painful narration...
Let me start by saying that I really loved this book. However,in all my years of listening to audible, I have never slammed a narrator like I am about tothe narration was absolutely horrific.
This narrator mispronounced SO many words that it was painful to listen to! Common words! On top of that, she couldn't even say a full sentence without putting weird pauses every 5 or 6 words, no matter what the punctuation originally indicated. I don't know who was the producer, but they obviously were NOT doing their job the day this was recorded.
I did listen to the entire thing because I really liked the story, but I will be buying the e-books for any future books with this narrator.
    Please no more Emma Galvin!
I really enjoy Mindy Klaskys writing. Her stories are light and generally fun, but I am pleading, PLEASE, find a different narrator! Emma Galvin has a pleasant voice and I would find her portrayal of these characters if she only knew the meaning of punctuation! She pauses where she shouldn't so often that I find it terribly distracting. As much as I enjoy listening to books I'm afraid that any other Klasky books I purchase will have to be in print not on audible!

great addition to my zombie library
    Any additional comments?
devoured is a really good initial outbreak story. although it's not a pure zombie novel, zombie enthusiasts will definitely like it!
this story reminded me of 3 of my favorite zombie stories: infection: alaskan undead apocalypse (book 1 only), the remaining, and we're alive.
i thought of infection b/c devoured starts out in a hospital. i thought infection had the best hospital outbreak scenario, but devoured's is better. brant does a really good job building the tension as lance, his wife, liz, and his friend, don, learn the hospital they're in gets quarantined. brant also does a good job racheting up the fear and hysteria as more and more people in and around the hospital become infected and the military shooting starts.
i thought of the remaining and we're alive b/c the infected aren't zombies but something worse, much worse if you can imagine that! as michael aptly puts it, "zombies are only the cocoon stage!" brant adds his own horrifying twists on the infected, giving them a creepy and unique feel.
this is a well-balanced story. there's a lot of action and good character development. i'm not one of those people who talks during movies, but when i'm alone, listening to a good book, i do tend to talk aloud sometimes when i'm riveted by something that's happening. while listening to this story, there were a few times when i found myself talking / yelling / swearing at a character. so you can say i was affected by parts of this story and its characters.
wayne june does a pretty good job narrating. he is able to conjure and portray the different range of emotions and their tones, and he knows when to speed up and slow down.
overall, a very enjoyable story! i highly recommend it to all those who love a good zombie / end of the world story.
Zombies only the cocoon stage? Nice change!
Keep telling yourself: This isn't a zombie apocolypse novel.
Is that a BAD thing? Not at all.
I like twists on a theme.

No bull here: well written urban fantasy
I didn't know what to expect when I started this book. It seemed from the write up that it would have a very heavy supernatural bend to it. It does, but it doesn't at the same time. Hard to explain, but the world, the characters, and their motivations and behaviours do not feel supernatural, even if their existence is (this is a good thing, by the way). The "bad guys" are varied and supernatural in nature, but their actions are realistic, and how they are dealt with is believable.
The background/history of the characters and the world and how they got to where they are was really well-doled out/paced. We aren't subjected to lectures or long histories, but little snapshots of the past just in time to stretch out some suspense or fill a gap. There is a fairly consistent sense of humour throughout which actually comes across quite well as it fleshes out the main character, and certainly makes him more likeable.
There is an oddly placed fairly detailed erotic scene as we get close to the end of the novel. Not sure why this scene was so far into the story, nor why it was so detailed when other similar scenes were more cursory in nature. It was a well-done scene, just so much more detailed than other scenes that it felt more like it was fulfilling a specific requirement for X pages of erotica, instead of progressing the story.
I think the story ended at a logical point, but it isn't really resolved... and it doesn't feel like justice was properly served (but, then again, there wasn't a huge 'wrong' to be righted here, just a general sense that immortals are bad and should be removed). It seems clear that there are more books planned for this series; I would certainly read them.
When I first started the book, I thought the choice of a female narrator was a bit odd since the main character is male. That being said, however, she does an excellent job, and you can tell each of the characters apart easily; no exaggeration... she really does a terrific job, but it was still a bit odd when the narrator made a reference to being male (particularly in reference to sexual activities).
There are some sex scenes, but they are not particularly graphic. There is some non-graphic violence and I don't recall any foul language.
    Immortal Hunters
The Forest Bull is the story of a group of immortal hunters in a world where many of these immortals are the creatures of nightmare, preying on the innocent, unless stopped.

It made me laugh and cry. Callie had so many laugh lines and the final few scenes were amazing.
    Any additional comments?
Breathless.....left me ... well Breathless! This is such an amazing read! I'm a huge twilight fan and vampires are a part of my list of literature that I love. I had the opportunity to read this book and I really enjoyed it. I loved his take on vampires and vampire hunters this was very different than your commonplace vampire story. The one toothed gratham was also super interesting. Scott is a master storyteller and paints a beautiful picture in your mind of his characters and of the places they interact. I loved the main character Lisa she was so amazing, flawed yet beautiful. I also have a soft spot for Callie she is so perky and loveable! I cried during the final confrontational scene.

    Members Reviews:
    Well that was a surprise...
Its not like I went into this expecting Darkwalker to be bad, exactly. I would never waste my time digging through a garbage bin hoping to find a suitcase of money hidden among the trash. My policy is pretty much the same for books. I'm not denying the possibility that the metaphorical suitcase could be there, but I never found the rewards of employing such a tactic worthwhile. I never would have picked Darkwalker up if I hadn't hoped to find at least something worthwhile. No, I went into this expecting the same thing I expect out of most books, mediocrity. Especially since I've never heard of the author before, even in passing.
So color me surprised to find that this book wasn't mediocre, or even above average, but really very good. It has it's flaws of course, but I've never read (or in this case listened to) a book without flaws. Let's get those out of the was first, since there are relatively few.
The first and the simplest to point out is that I knew, beyond a shadow of a doubt that Lenoir was never going to die during this book. I was never afraid for is life. And before anyone jumps down my throat about spoilers I would direct you to the cover where it says Darkwalker: Book 1 of the Nicolas Lenoir NOVELS which is how I knew with such certainty. I'm not sure who's oversight this was, but it made me want to smack someone on the back of the head. It broke through the suspension of disbelief for me, but maybe that's just a personal thing.
Second was that while I was never bored with this novel, I was never shocked either. I would never go so far as to say it was predictable, but it felt a little....safe? There's a twist around the 3/4 mark in the novel that I didn't see coming until just before Lenoir did (and I mean JUST before, I realized what was going to happen and then Lenoir pieced it together a few seconds later) which was good, that's how a good twist/ reveal works, however my reaction was a bit more... subdued than it should of been. It went somewhere along the lines of "Huh. Well played." instead of, "NO. NO!!! Oh my god.

    must read
I stayed on the edge of my seat through most of it! Each time I thought I knew what was going to happen, am exciting new twist arrived.
    great performance
great story and performance. all the books in this series are well done. love it
    Another fantastic listen
Where does Darkness Splintered rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
This book ranks at the top. Love this series and it takes way too long for the next book to be produced :)
Who was your favorite character and why?
Rissa - she just keeps on taking the hard knocks but does not wallow in her sorrow.
What does Saskia Maarleveld bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
The narration brings so much more suspense with her voice. The way she changes her voice and keeps the suspense up is awesome
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
At the end when she just picked herself up and dusted off her pants and knew it was not over but did not sit and cry about it.
    Any additional comments?
This whole series has been great. I like the fact that the main character is not a whiner. The author keeps her real and does not give her the ability to always win, but to fight and lose a battle or two to make her more real
Becoming increasingly uninterested in this series.
I love Keri Arthur and this has been one of my favorite series of hers (second only to Riley Jenson), but I've found myself rather bored with this book. I can't really put my finger on it, but it just didn't grab me like some of the others in the past. For me, this time was just... meh.
