as usual, snelling produces a great story. but after hearing the wonderful Stina Nelson bring the previous books on this family to life, this narrator hit a sour note. she really should have listened to her predecessor.

    Gripping and compassionate
Freedom's Stand was a book I read in just over a day. The subject of Afghanistan and the plight of women and children has long been a passion.
The Christian element also interested me, as I know there are some who have accepted the message of Christ. Yet, I did not want a preachy book. Maudlin and sentimental Christian writing leaves me gagging. There was no fear with this book.
Jamil, a health worker who had dreamed of being a doctor became a Christian, but tried to be careful in the way he spread his beliefs so as not to hurt others. He had been a suicide bomber whose mission did not succeed. Add his American friend Amy, also a Christian and a passionate but slightly naïve young woman to the mix and things get more interesting. She wants to bring education and gainful employment to the women of Afghanistan. Her efforts are continually thwarted by the way things work in a society which looks at women as property. Amy grows considerably during the story.
An American contracted to provide security to various people meets Amy and becomes embroiled in her world. All three characters grow and the book comes to an intense and sad and happy conclusion. I don't want to give any spoilers, but some of the ending is really sad, yet also fits the story.
I really enjoyed this book a lot, though I was taking a chance in my mind. I would suggest you read it if you have an interest in the middle east and its complex nature.
The narrator did quite a good job with the book and I would definitely listen to another book done by her.

Diving deeper into the madness with GRAVESTONE: The Solitary Tales, book 2...
If you just didn't "get" the first book, it wasn't your thing or you just flat out hated it, then don't bother with GRAVESTONE because I'm pretty sure you won't like it either. BUT!...If you were captivated by the uniqueness and mystery of SOLITARY (as I was) then you'll love this second installment in the four part series even more... More bizarre, more creepy and more questions... oh so many more questions and it's just all the more addictive.
Travis Thrasher's Solitary Tales series is a rare find in the saturated YA literary market of today; wherein you can truly sink into the unpredictable and awful enigma of each thrilling twist of the plot at every terrifying turn. There is only one guarantee that the eerie and disturbing town of Solitary promises... no one can be trusted.

    Publisher's Summary:
My dear Beth, though Uppsala, Iowa, takes its name from a city in my native Sweden, life here is different from what I have known. With my parents' blessing, I have taken employment in the home of Mr. Bridger, a dairy farmer, caring for his ill mother and two young, orphaned nieces. It is most unlike me to leave home, even in a temporary manner. But the need is great and Hattie Bridger and the children are so endearing. As for Dirk Bridger, he is an unhappy man, but also loyal, hardworking, and honorable. And, I should add, quite handsome. My younger sisters were smitten the instant they saw him. Young flirts! And with beauty to match. I, on the other hand, am considered to have common sense to attend my common looks. But, friend Beth, I am afraid my heart betrays my wisdom---for I, too, long to be seen as beautiful. Not just by anyone. By Dirk Bridger. Your friend, Inga Linberg. In rural Iowa, life is both the planter and uprooter of dreams. As love, long delayed, springs to life in the heart of a young Swedish immigrant, one man struggles with his withered ambitions---and new blessings that could take their place if he would but allow them room.
Patterns of Love is Book Two in the Coming to America series about women who come to America to start new lives. Set in the late 1800s and early 1900s, these novels by best-selling author Robin Lee Hatcher craft intense chemistry and conflict between the characters, lit by a glowing faith and humanity that will win your heart. Look for other books in the series at your favorite Christian bookstore.

    I liked it.
    Really enjoyable and easy read.
    Touching story, great read
PATTERNS OF LOVE is book two in Robin Hatcher's Coming to America series. The 2001 revision of the 1999 RITA Award book portrays the life of Swedish immigrant Inga Linberg and Dirk Bridger, an Iowa dairy farmer, with the added insight of their spiritual journey with God.
Because of his strong sense of responsibility, Dirk Bridger has abandoned his dreams of world travel and adventure to settle in Uppsala, Iowa, as the guardian of his two orphaned nieces and his deceased brother's dairy farm. Pragmatically, he struggles with despair over his lost dream and the monotonousness of life on the farm. Dirk's sure God if He even exists, has abandoned him.
Inga, the oldest daughter of a Lutheran minister, is resigned to God's plan for her life as quilt artist and capable assistant in her father's ministry. Unlike her four sisters, Inga is neither attractive nor flirtatious and completely content until Dirk arrives at the parsonage to ask her father's help in finding someone to assist him in caring for the two children and his ailing mother. Inga agrees to become his live-in housekeeper and quickly brings order and love to the Bridger household. Personally, she grows discontent with her life. As time goes by, Dirk finds himself attracted to the tall, willowy Swedish immigrant that his mom and nieces have come to love. When Dirk's mother dies, proprietary morals of the period prohibit Inga from continuing in her role as live-in housekeeper. Dirk offers Inga a marriage contract to be terminated when his nieces are older. When Inga agrees, their lives are forever changed.
Robin Hatcher skillfully weaves a tender romance between Inga and Dirk while portraying their spiritual struggles in an unobtrusive, believable way.

    Grate Story, but
I loved this Story. It kept me on the edge of my seat.
However, I think the disks the book was originally on were damaged. There were 2 or 3 spots where it sounded like a smudged or lightly scratched CD.
    EXCELLENT STORY
LOVED IT. INTRIGUING TO THE END. HAD A VERY HARD TIME TURNING OFF THIS AUDIBLE BOOK TO TAKE CARE OF FAMILY AND RESPONSIBILITIES. I WANT TO THANK THE AUTHOR, MAN WHO READ IT, AND EVERYONE INVOLVED!
    The end of a trilogy
The only reason I got this on audible is because I got the first book free on Kindle, then I wanted to finish the trilogy, and the second one was on kindle but the third one was not, and I hate reading paper books, so I got the third one on audiio. The whole series itself wasn't that great but I vested in it enough that I wanted to finish it to find out how the author ended it. So I started out thinking the series was okay but not really a fan. That said, you are probably listening to this third book because you listened to the first two and want to know how it ends. LIke the first two, I found the whole plot and story a bit silly at times and some of the characters a bit "out there." Some of the writing not the greatest, but it was tolerable. I got a bit worried at the beginning of the book when the narrator was giving a synopsis of what went before and he was talking really formally, he almost reminded me of Mr. Howell on Gilligan's Island and I was hoping he wasn't going to talk like that through the whole book, and he did talk less formally once the actual book started, either that or I got used to how he talked. There were some audio problems here and there, skips and stuff, but they didn't last long. Also real long pauses between chapters and sometimes you could hear pages turning but it wasn't too bad.

    Beautiful story of God's provision
Sarah has had a difficult life. She grew up working on her family's canal boat, leading the mules along the towpath. Her father believed it was her duty as his child and did pay her and her sister for their work. Sarah longed for the day she could get away. She met Sam who was the son of one of the lock tenders and when they turned 18 they ran away together and got married. After several trials and setbacks they end up back at the canal and Sam is now the lock tender. Sam is killed in a lock accident and Sarah is left with three small children to raise on her own as well as the lock to tend. She learns to depend on those who love her for their support and assistance at times though she doesn't like to ask for help. Will she be able to continue her work at the lock or does God have other plans for her life?
Absolutely loved The Brides of Lehigh High Canal
A heartwarming story about a young widow trying to work, and raise her three children while living along the Lehigh Canal.
    Very interesting and likeable characters
I especially like how Wanda brings several characters back from Kelly's Chance and Betsy's Return.
Absolutely loved all three stories of The Brides of Lehigh Canal
    Something I found very interesting
was Richard Brunstetter ( Wanda husband played along the towpath and used to swim in Lehigh canal when he was a boy.
That inspired Wanda to write this series
    I really enjoyed
Deserves more the a five star rating
What a great way to end a series
I believe book three was my favorite! Once again full of surprises and pure clean romance. I also enjoyed the message of God's love and redemption for those who follow Him!
I'm sure you'll love this book as much as I did. It can be read as a stand alone, but it would be sad to miss the other two books in the series!
    RHONDA
    Good choice, great read....
Excellent conclusion to this series, a heartfelt storyline about Sarah and her children, having to survive without her husband. Loved reading about the historical area of the tow path locks . I didn't know they were real until the end of the book. Good history lesson.
    I loved these books
I loved reading this series of books. I could not lay them down. This is the third book. She has developed each character well.

A Beautiful Patchwork of Characterization & Story
Review of Kellys Long Sarahs Garden
This was a beautiful story, well-written, and a solid romance. Sarah King loves her garden.
When she finds herself falling in love with a physician who is not Amish she questions what she should do. This was my second listen for Kelly Longs books and again I was impressed by the freshness in her writing and the passion in the romance. These characters are portrayed as real people with genuine emotions rather than the cookie cutter images seen in some of the Amish books.
Listeners should keep in mind that this is an inspirational romance, the book originally published by Thomas Nelson. Lovely spiritual arc for both the hero and the heroine.
    Well done, Kelly!
    Sarah's Garden
    Any additional comments?
I'm loving the entire series. I enjoyed the courtship of Sarah and Grant. I also liked how the Amish community began to accept Grant, the Englisha vet. The visions of the gardens Sarah designed were delightful. The narrator also did an excellent job.
    Great story
If you could sum up Sarahs Garden in three words, what would they be?
    Great Amish fiction!
I love Amish fiction and this one was really good. My world is so busy and crazy sometimes, that I have to get away. Since there is no time to literally get away, I do it through stories and books.
My tastes in books tends to be rather eclectic and it just depends on my mood. If I have seen too much of the world with its selfishness and meanness I need a good Christian novel to remind me of who I am and what I believe in. The narrator was wonderful. Her voice was calming and the words written by the author were wise and truthful.
Would I want to be Amish; I can honestly say no. But to know that there are Amish communities close by and that there are people that can ignore the temptations of this world and live a simple life, following the instructions of Christ is enough for me. Do I believe that all Amish live a life like the ones portrayed in Amish fiction; of course not. After all, no matter how anyone lives, we are all people cut from the same cloth and that cloth is not perfect or even good by any stretch of the imagination. But a book like this one takes me away from some of the ugliness of the world and helps to mend some of my wounds by restoring my faith in God and in his children.
Who was your favorite character and why?
    The bishop.

A cranky, atheistic philosophy professor loves to shred the faith of incoming freshmen. He is chosen by a group of scientists to create a philosophy for a computer-generated world exactly like ours. Much to his frustration, every model he introducesfrom Darwinism, to Existentialism, to Relativism, to Buddhismfails. The only way to preserve the computer world is to introduce laws from outside their system through a Law Giver. Of course this goes against everything he's ever believed, and he hates it. But even that doesn't completely work because the citizens of that world become legalists and completely miss the spirit behind the Law.
The only way to save them is to create a computer character like himself to personally live and explain it. He does. So now there are two of himthe one in our world and the one in the computer world. Unfortunately, a rival has introduced a virus into the computer world. Things grow worse until our computer-world professor sees the only way to save his world is to personally absorb the virus and the penalty for breaking the Law. Of course, it's clear to all, including our real-world professor, that this act of selfless love has become a reenactment of the Gospel. It is the only possible choice to save their computer world and, as he finally understands, our own.

Christen SiFi Thriller Laced With Modern Day Tech
Who was your favorite character and why?
Nicholas, a man with extraordinary intelligence and emotionally injured by personal tragedy, attacks and berates anyone with faith in God. He is a generally ???good??? man who wants the best for everyone but is utterly without faith and has no patience for people with faith. We all know people like him.
We see this character from the outside, just as we see the people we know in the real world, but the author also gives us an understanding of this character from the inside and lets us see the pain and turmoil that beats him into an angry, Godless man. As the story progresses we get to see his heart soften as he begins to understand the logic behind God???s plan for the world.
    Any additional comments?
This has been one of my favorite Audible books. It???s a Christian book with elements of Science Fiction, Action Thriller, and Technology. I usually pace myself with Audible books to make my credits last longer but I couldn???t help myself with this book. I burned right through it.
This book is fiction. You could easily ruin it by over analyzing all of the technical details. It???s not going to convert anyone to Christianity or ???open the eyes??? of any unbelievers. It???s just a fun adventure that looks at our world and our relationship with God from a new and interesting angle.
I don???t usually care for books that are narrated by the author, especially when it comes to fiction. But I have to give it Bill Myers; he did a better job than some professional voice actors. He did a great job.
    Gospel For the Modern Age
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This book sucks you in emotionally...I became really connected with the characters, not only as a "reader" but as a mother, a Christian, and a teacher.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The God Hater?
There are many memorable moments, but when Nicholas gets blown out the water during a tit-for-tat conversation with a former student.

Unexpectedly Good, Start with Part 2
I chose this book because it was on sale and appeared to have unique and wholesome love story. The stories were simple, and even though I knew how they would end, I enjoyed each of the three stories. The narration was not very animated, but it suited the audiobook.
The only other issue was the order of the stories. For some reason, the stories were loaded backwards so that the first story should have been last and so on. It didn't really materially affect the plots, but there are references of characters from the interconnected storylines that make more sense if read in the proper order.
    Nice listen, good value!
Three nice little Amish stories in a row. They are out of order would be my only complaint, otherwise for the price and the number of hours you are getting a really good deal. A good buy, good listen, good value! Nice stories, happy endings, my kind of relaxation!
Love does prove to win out.
If you could sum up An Amish Gathering in three words, what would they be?
    Loving, gentle and believable
What other book might you compare An Amish Gathering to and why?
I listented to The Promise and was grabbed into the Amish world. THey are such kind and peaceful people, calling themselves plain. All their decisions are made with God in mind. I think the world would be so much better if God were always consulted.
What does Debra Solberg bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
The heartache of Josiah from being abused as a child and feeling of not being worthy.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Man returns to Amish FLock and finds acceptance.
    Any additional comments?
I was sorry to have this story end. I wanted to find that the wedding had taken place and that Katherine had her baby. Hope there is a followup.

Such sweet stories and well narrated. For some reason the order of the stories got jumbled, the first book should really be the last. they're all individual stories, the characters just refer to others in passing, so you can still really enjoy them, even with the mix up.
    Narrator or reader....
Would you listen to An Amish Gathering again? Why?
No....sorry the narrator seemed like she was just reading the book. Anyone can read a book but narration is another story. Will definitely be sure she's not the narrator for any other books I download.
    Any additional comments?
However the stories themselves were pretty good.
