Taoism isn't just a religion; it's a way of life. It's a lifelong journey to happiness and acceptance. It is the flow of the world and universe. Everything and everybody has their place and their journey. When a balance is found in the flow of life then true happiness can be reached. That is what Taoism is. Main figureheads of Taoism are Chuang Tzu and Lao Tzu. They dedicated their lives to finding balance for their inner spirits. The Taoist is represented by the Yin Yang because their goal is to find balance in opposites. Taoists aren't led by an omniscient God like many religions. Instead they focus on understanding their world, so that they can understand the inner harmony. That's why it is way more than just a religion. This book is meant to help you understand the Taoist belief system. With this book you will be able to learn some important steps on your journey to become a Taoist. The steps you will learn are:
Taoism is also called Daoism and came to prominence around the time of Confucianism. The early Chinese people used Taoism as a religious tradition. Tao roughly translates to way or path. The Tao character can be translated as class or teach. A Taoist believes that there is a central principle in the universe. They believe that living as one with nature and the Universe will lead them to the way of heaven. With a few simple steps and changes to the way you think, you can become a Taoist. I should state that I have never perused about TAO, nor truly gave it much intrigue, yet when the associate gave me an outline of what this book was about, I got to be distinctly inquisitive, as it seemed like something that I would be occupied with. I simply completed the process of understanding it, and will read again ASAP. I have such a large number of highlights in this book. The book was amazing. I should concede that there are parts where it can turn into somewhat muddled to see yet once you get past it, and give it another read, it turns out to be so clear. I truly appreciate this book and it will be a staple in my gathering. I enjoyed this very much.

TAO is very interesting subject to learn and this book is very helpful. It is quite short reading. With this book you will learn main things and tips about this philosophy. Recommended for those who want to clear their minds and make life better.
A Basic but Well Written Introduction to Taoism
For those of us not convinced that there is a personal God Taoism might be the answer. Its concept of a driving natural force that fills the universe is a good way to explain life especially after death. This book explains how we can be part of that universal force if we transform ourselves.

    Title: On Hinduism
    Author: Wendy Doniger
    Narrator: Avita Jay
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 30 hrs and 52 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 01-01-17
    Publisher: Audible Studios
Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Buddhism & Eastern Religions
    Publisher's Summary:
In this magisterial volume of essays, Wendy Doniger enhances our understanding of the ancient and complex religion to which she has devoted herself for half a century. This series of interconnected essays and lectures surveys the most critically important and hotly contested issues in Hinduism over 3,500 years, from the ancient time of the Vedas to the present day.
The essays contemplate the nature of Hinduism; Hindu concepts of divinity; attitudes concerning gender, control, and desire; the question of reality and illusion; and the impermanent and the eternal in the two great Sanskrit epics, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. Among the questions Doniger considers are: Are Hindus monotheists or polytheists? How can atheists be Hindu, and how can unrepentant Hindu sinners find salvation? Why have Hindus devoted so much attention to the psychology of addiction? What does the significance of dogs and cows tell us about Hinduism? How have Hindu concepts of death, rebirth, and karma changed over the course of history? How and why does a pluralistic faith, remarkable for its intellectual tolerance, foster religious intolerance?
Doniger concludes with four concise autobiographical essays in which she reflects on her lifetime of scholarship, Hindu criticism of her work, and the influence of Hinduism on her own philosophy of life. On Hinduism is the culmination of over 40 years of scholarship from a renowned expert on one of the world's great faiths.

    This is it!

    Very interesting
    Don't waste your time
This book is a waste of time. There are so many better books written by Indologists who actually know what they write about, who actually can understand Sanskrit, and who actually can manage to publish a book without hundreds of errors. See also the excellent review of Vishal Agarwal which is very detailed and meticulous (google it, and there is also a review from Vishal Agarwal on this site).
Doniger has been criticized for her scholarship by Koenraad Elst, Michael Witzel, Nicholas Kazanas, Vishal Agarwal, Kalavai Venkat, Michel Danino, Stuart Sovatsky and in the book "Invading the Sacred" and the book "Academic Hinduphobia". Her use of psychoanalysis has also been criticized as being not appropriate to explain Dharmic cultures, and as largely pseudoscience (which it is).
For introductions to Hinduism, I recommend Alain Danielou, David Frawley, Will Durant (Our Oriental Heritage) or KlostermaiersHinduism: A Beginner's Guide (Beginner's Guides), or for a more scholarly work R.C. Majumdar, and Ram Swarup for essays on Hinduism.

EDIT: all page references in this review are to the Hardbound version (ISBN 9780199360079)
This is a long review of a long book. The review quotes the book relatively more than most reviews would. If your intent is to get my take on it and skip the details, scroll down to the bottom for the Cliff Notes version.
It was a very difficult task to write a review of On Hinduism. The first challenge is that it is not really a book â it is a collection of 43 essays from among 140 essays the author has published on Hinduism. These 43 have been selected and arranged in five broad themes. So the flow of the book, if there is one, is what the author intended to achieve.

    Title: Extraordinary Freedom
Subtitle: Buddhist Wisdom for Modern Times
    Author: Dana Marsh
    Narrator: Margo Vaughn Nelson
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 3 hrs and 46 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 12-15-16
    Publisher: Margo Vaughn Nelson
Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Buddhism & Eastern Religions
    Publisher's Summary:
Extraordinary Freedom is an approachable and straightforward invitation to open to life, to inquire within, and to go beyond confusion and live in the light of awareness. Although the book isn't filled with the esoteric language of the Buddhist tradition, it has the depth of this powerful wisdom tradition. By becoming conscious of our inner world, our habits, beliefs, neurosis, and attachments there is an opportunity to see their empty nature and in doing so transform our lives. The wisdom we need is already within us, it is who we are. By living in awareness and gaining insight we discover this for ourselves. In order to reveal this wisdom in our consciousness we need to try on a new way of seeing and relating to life and all the conditions it presents, then the extraordinariness of who we are can reveal itself and the chains that bind us to old hardened views will break. We can experience extraordinary freedom moment by moment, embracing all that life offers. "Many people need a book like this which is simple in its language and profound in its meaning" - Anam Thubten.
    Members Reviews:
    Simple yet powerful
Marsh has a down-to earth writing/thinking style which --reaching beyond high falutin concepts-- lands you right into the heart of concerns. (If you're willing)
Is your mind busy? Are you being dragged around by your emotional reactions ? Do you shop, eat, drink, whatever to keep from working with what may feel like weirdness in your head? As a mother, a long-term meditator and a teacher (Dana's teaches in public school and is an ordained Buddhist teacher)she draws on her deep experiences (and study) to help the reader make friends with his/herself, to not believe everything we think.
I particularly appreciated chapters 10 ("It's enough!") and 11 ("Living with an Awakened Heart") Though chapter 6, "Tea with my teachers" is very helpful. I'm having a lot of metaphorical tea these days due to my son's illness. Dana encourages the reader to see life's hard knocks as powerful teachings, as friends, that are here to open our hearts. Would you like to learn to be with the world just as it is---brutal and gentle? This book is an important step in that process.
May we fight less and sip more.
well written easy to follow contents
well written easy to follow contents, expressing values and wisdom for people of all ages and backgrounds. Made me understand Buddhism a lot better than some previous books I had read.
    Five Stars
This book makes me smile and think and experience my life with more acceptance and pleasure.
    A wonderful read!
Extraordinary Freedom is a simply written text for those that wish to bring greater peace to the stresses of everyday life. Rather than battling the intricacies of Buddhist philosophy with contradictions of modern life, Dana Marsh weaves a natural tapestry of anecdotes and metaphors to combine the two. There is something for everyone in this book, and regardless of your background in Buddhism, or religion as a whole, lessons can certainly be taken from its pages. I would hope that the positive feedback she receives from her first novel will encourage a second.

    Darren Rocks!
Darren beautifully brings together his experience with Zen, Yoga, and 12-step recovery to convey truths that we can use to stop our search for gaining enlightenment, and instead gain nothing, in a very useful, easy-to-read manner. It is obvious he brings forth his years of practice to help us look at our own meditation practice in a whole new way. He has remarkable insight into the human condition, and gives readers the opportunity to get up close and personal with their suffering. Unlike other authors, Darren is not trying to sell you the cure-all for all of your ills, but instead shows you that what you are searching for can only be found through practice, and he gives a wonderful roadmap to readers on how to use Buddhist teachings to indeed gain nothing.
    âItâs like spiritual anarchy
âThere is a lot to forget about Buddhism, but itâs important to learn it first.â Darren Littlejohn starts his book in simple words that have a powerful impact. He leads us through the challenges of daily living that lure us to the respite of non suffering. But getting there is very tricky; âItâs like spiritual anarchy. No thought is free from inquiry. No beliefs go unchecked.â We discover we have so much to lose to find our way.
Like quantum field physics in which we discover there is more of a NON-thing than there is of that thing- Littlejohn explains Buddhism in the way out of ego-being and toward the completeness of nothing-ness.

    Publisher's Summary:
The Book of Joy by the Dalai Lama, Desmond Tutu, and Douglas Abrams is a nonfiction meditation on enduring joy. It focuses on ways to cultivate joy in the face of widespread human suffering on both personal and collective levels. On the occasion of the Dalai Lama's 80th birthday in 2015, the Dalai Lama and Tutu agreed to meet in Dharamsala, India, where the Dalai Lama has lived in exile for more than five decades. There, they convened a dialogue on joy, which they describe as the fundamental nature of all human beings. The exchange was filmed and attended by Mpho Tutu, Tutu's daughter, and Thupten Jinpa, the Dalai Lama's translator. The purpose of presenting this days-long conversation in book format was to offer these sentiments as a gift with the hope that others will be inspired to take the teachings of Tutu and the Dalai Lama to heart.
Please note: this is a summary, analysis and review of the book and not the original book.

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN "SPIRITUAL ADVICE" FROM THE DALAI LAMA & DESMOND TUTU?
This is an overview of the actual âThe Book of Joy.â Kind of like an abbreviated âCliff's Notesâ for the FULL book. It provides a potential reader enough information regarding the originalâs content to determine if we want to invest the money and time to actually purchase and read the entire printed copy or E-version. If you are looking for wisdom & philosophy, this book offers a peek at a few thoughts by the Dalai Lama from a personal conference with Desmond Tutu, that took place in 2015 ... and was very "spiritual" in nature. At .99 cents, this overview provides a good service and is one of the chief reasons I have personally found âInstareadâ to be a valuable tool.
Great review on how to find joy
"The Book of Joy" by the Dalai Lama, Desmond Tutu, and Douglas Abrams is a nonfiction meditation on enduring joy. It focuses on ways to cultivate joy in the face of widespread human suffering on both personal and collective levels.
But this is not that book, it is a summary of "The Book of Joy." Instaread condenses and simplifies the interfaith book into 8 key points about how to find joy. These key takeaways are simple, to the point, and easy to read. I found myself being uplifted and inspired while reading this great review. Instaread simplifies "The Book of Joy" into concise messages about how to forgive, why change is important, and why we should rely on others. I highly recommend this review! I was given an advance copy.
    Great summary
This summary gives a glimpse of how to have joy from the eyes of 3 world renown people. Learning about joy is beneficial and the summary was well written. There were just enough examples of what the authors are saying about having joy that entices the reader to want to read more! I received an advanced copy of this title.
    A joy to read

I would like to explore different religions
I would like to explore different religions, so I bought this book to learn about Buddhism. This is a really nice book if you are looking to learn about Buddhism. It covers many different topics such as, Where did Buddhism start? The practice of Buddhism focuses not just on benefiting and developing oneself, but on the needs of others as well. Buddhism does not include the idea of worshipping a creator God. Buddhist practices such as meditation are means of changing oneself in order to develop the qualities of awareness, kindness, and wisdom. I found this book a great introduction in Buddhism. It has helped me resume a routine of meditation. It is amazing how relaxing meditation truly is once you give it a chance. A worthy read and surprisingly easy to stay involved.

Ultimately, if we do not clear up after we wake up, then awakening will have been of little consequence. In the absence of that critical clearing process, our awakening is reduced to becoming a pleasant memory of an important event that happened long ago and which we presently cannot quite remember or explain. The movement toward abidance in, and embodiment as the living truth is what authentic spirituality is really all about.
The articles in this book are written predominantly for those already in the post-awakening state. However, many of the challenges and difficulties we face in the earlier levels of awakening will be familiar to any earnest seeker presently in the pre-awakened state. Regardless of whether you are a seeker or a finder, you'll find aid and comfort here from someone who's helped many hundreds of clients and students around the world. Fred Davis studied and practiced Eastern wisdom for 25 years prior to 2006, when seeking ended, and true awakening commenced. In recent years he's become a student of ancient Western philosophy as well. He is the creator and editor of AwakeningClarityNow.com, and the founder of The Living Method of Awakening. Fred is also the author of the nondual best-sellers, The Book of Undoing, Book of Unknowing, and Beyond Recovery: Nonduality and the Twelve Steps. He conducts both public and private sessions online via Skype and Zoom.

    A Regular Guy
Finally, a down to earth person who can explain the truth of enlightenment and the path to it. Fred explains so well the story of how individual consciousness comes to be. How it loses itself in the world, and how it will once again remember its true nature. He gives such an excellent understanding of both cosmic and individual consciousness that awakening clarity in the reader is certain to appear.
    Thank you Fred
