Publisher's Summary:

Venetia was very lonely after the death of her parents. So when her cousin Mary begged her to help to save her from a forced marriage, Venetia was ready. Mary was in love with another man and expecting his child. Yet the Queen wanted her to marry the Earl of Mountwood at a moment's notice and go with him to India. A reckless impulse made Venetia promise to take Mary's place at the altar. She would worry about the consequences later.

Lord Mountwood was handsome, but he was also haughty and autocratic, demanding instant obedience from his servants - and his wife. When he discovered the trick Venetia had played on him he was furious. She had only her quick wits to protect her from his wrath. On the journey to India they quarrelled and sparred, each getting the measure of the other, while the growing attraction between them became impossible to ignore.

In India they travelled to the North-West frontier, to a fort that was under constant attack by the Russians. And there, just as she and her husband discovered their love, they were caught up in danger that threatened to part them. How they overcame all the obstacles is told in this exciting and romantic novel by Barbara Cartland. If you like "Downton Abbey" you will love Barbara Cartland.

Barbara Cartland was the world's most prolific novelist who wrote an amazing 723 books in her lifetime, of which no less than 644 were romantic novels with worldwide sales of over 1 billion copies and her books were translated into 36 different languages. As well as romantic novels, she wrote historical biographies, 6 autobiographies, theatrical plays and books of advice on life, love, vitamins and cookery. She wrote her first book at the age of 21 and it was called "Jigsaw". It became an immediate bestseller and sold 100,000 copies in hardback in England and all over Europe in translation.

Between the ages of 77 and 97 she increased her output and wrote an incredible 400 romances as the demand for her romances was so strong all over the world. She wrote her last book at the age of 97 and it was entitled perhaps prophetically The Way to Heaven.

Her books have always been immensely popular in the United States where in 1976 her current books were at numbers 1 and 2 in the B. Dalton bestsellers list, a feat never achieved before or since by any author. Barbara Cartland became a legend in her own lifetime and will be best remembered for her wonderful romantic novels so loved by her millions of readers throughout the world, who have always collected her books to read again and again, especially when they feel miserable or depressed.

Her books will always be treasured for their moral message, her pure and innocent heroines, her handsome and dashing heroes, her blissful happy endings and above all for her belief that the power of love is more important than anything else in everyone's life.

This Series Just Keeps Getting Better

Any additional comments?

I was provided this audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review. I've listened to the first in this series and now this 2nd "episode" and am loving it more and more and anxious for more. If I had time to sit and read with my eyeballs I would read episode 3, but since I don't have time I have to suffer and wait for the 3rd episode to be produced and released to audiobook. Anxiously waiting for more...

yaaaasssssssss!!!!

i love listening to this and narration was perfect! I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher

Getting Hotter By The Episode

This episode was Hot hot hot! Les was a really interesting character and I loved his surprise! But of course I felt like this book ended on a cliffie...even though it technically wasn't but I really really wanted that last scene in the book to play out all the way!!! I'm hoping it will pick up on that scene in the 3rd episode. =) i am looking forward to the next episode to see what will happen next! I liked the narrator's voice for the male characters, she actually does a good job on them! Can't wait for more episodes!!!

Enjoyable 2nd Part

Enjoyed this one very much, I did have to speed it up as I found the narrative a little to slow for me. Great new characters in this book that I found very entertaining.

Great Book!

This is the second book you really need to listen to the first one. I enjoyed this one better than the first because of the two different narrators. They both did a fantastic job. The story itself is amazing. I will definitely be listening/reading more from this author.

"Four stars! Memories, regrets and second chances are front and center in Gilroy's fantastic debut. The first book in the Firefly Lake series is complex and mired in secrets. The Vermont setting adds a genuine feel to the story, and the co-stars are highly entertaining. The homebody hero and world-traveling heroine must travel a long and bumpy road to happiness." Second chance romance, loved it!

I like this one so much that I've listened to this audiobook twice now. There are several elements present here that I love so much in stories: a second chance romance, sibling relationships, and a small town setting. Charlotte and Sean have a past with big secrets to overcome. The progression of their relationship is a slow build throughout the course of the story. There are secrets from their past that must be worked out as well as a rather large issue in the present, but the restoration is worth the wait.

Charlotte and Sean are great characters - I loved Sean's character most because he is gentle and kind and patient. I also loved Mia (Charlotte's sister); I think she has an interesting backstory and am excited to read about it in the next installment in this series.

Karissa Vacker is a new-to-me narrator; I enjoyed her work in this audiobook. She did a great job reading the story, especially with the emotions that presented themselves as the story progressed. This will be a re-listen for me and I'll be continuing with this series on audio.

Title: Some Kind of Magic

Subtitle: Flirting with Fame, Book 1

Author: Mary Ann Marlowe

Narrator: Jorjeana Marie

Format: Unabridged

Length: 9 hrs and 56 mins

Language: English

Release date: 01-31-17

Publisher: Random House Audio

Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 15 votes

Genres: Romance, Contemporary

Publisher's Summary:

In this sparkling debut novel, Mary Ann Marlowe introduces a hapless scientist who's swept off her feet by a rock star - but is it love or just a chemical reaction?

Biochemist Eden Sinclair has no idea that the scent she spritzed on herself before leaving the lab is designed to enhance pheromones. Or that the cute, grungy-looking guy she meets at a gig that evening is Adam Copeland. As in the Adam Copeland - international rock god and object of lust for a million women. Make that a million and one. By the time she learns the truth, she's already spent the (amazing, incredible) night in his bed.

Suddenly Eden, who's more accustomed to being set up on disastrous dates by her mom, is going out with a gorgeous celebrity who loves how down-to-earth and honest she is. But for once Eden isn't being honest. She can't bear to reveal that this overpowering attraction could be nothing more than seduction by science. And the only way to know how Adam truly feels is to ditch the perfume - and risk being ditched in turn.

Smart, witty, and sexy, Some Kind of Magic is an irresistibly engaging look at modern relationships - why we fall, how we connect, and the courage it takes to trust in something as mysterious and unpredictable as love.

Members Reviews:

Great plot, poor narration

I really like the whimsical plot. Eden is a very likable character. I liked the cross between nerdy and creative. Adam is a rock star, but not a typical arrogant one. Marlowe did a nice job rounding out the characters. This story will appeal to the romantic of heart with a PG 13+ sex content. It uses the plot device, 'I know something I should tell you but don't.' Its not that big of a deal, at first, but...'

The narrator sounds like she has a cold. I would not listen to this book on enhanced because it is way too distracting. Marie makes Eden sound less than smart. I read book two first, by accident, I liked the narrator way better. I give series a thumbs up, but I don't know where book three is going to go from here unless Eve's best friend is next on the hit parade.

Meh!

He had all the power in the relationship .. He did not put her first ..she always had to go to him .

Maxfield Brothers

If you could sum up The Billionaire's Tenacious Boss in three words, what would they be?

Leslie North writes Billionaires and Shiekh's lis great It has a little twist to it and it made for a very interesting read. Never stand in a woman's way to get where she wants but never under estimate a man's desire for what he wants either!!

Wonderful

Any additional comments?

This audiobook was given to me for a honest unbiased review. this was great. I love Leslie North, she did great with this book. Did not think she could do better, boy was i wrong, and glad of it. The chemistry between the main characters is hot. The family drama adds a very interesting angle to this book

Strange Story

I got this book via audiobook boom. This is a story of a family that has been torn apart because of a very autocratic father who the sons believe that caused the death of their mother. The story begins with the three brothers are called together because the father is trying to sell off the company. The VP of the company is a woman that the father has promised a promotion if she will do what he wants her to do. Steven, the older son is the center of the story and he is being attacked from all sides. The narrator is pretty good. But the story switches tenses throughout and sometimes even within the same sentence. I find it hard to believe that a ten-year-old is allowed to talk like that and the Dad apologizes.

Great Contemporary Romance

I have really enjoyed listening to Leslie's Books. This one is probably my favorite so far. Her writing is interesting and entertaining. There is drama, romance, and some twists.

The narrator did a great job bringing the story to life. I really like his voice and intonation. I'm looking forward to listening to more books narrated by Connor.

The characters were well developed and the story kept my attention all the way to the HEA conclusion.

It was nice to have a successful businesswoman that is being groomed to take over as CEO as the heroine. I also liked that the billionaire was not a player but a smart, successful man as well.
