Loved it!

Great narration by Kaleo Griffith as always.

I loved the story but thought the ending was too abrubt.

I'm glad Kaleo is narrating Lucky's story next. Can't wait to hear that one.

Terrible narration

I probably listen to about 3 books a week and I must say the narration on this book ranks up there in the top 5 worst I have heard. It was painful to listen to, in fact a skipped through must of it, since the story was bad also. I will be asking for my credit back on this one.

Title: Power Play

Subtitle: Pilots Hockey Series #2

Author: Sophia Henry

Narrator: Shannon McManus

Format: Unabridged

Length: 6 hrs and 55 mins

Language: English

Release date: 02-16-16

Publisher: Tantor Audio

Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 18 votes

Genres: Romance, Contemporary

Publisher's Summary:

Beneath her innocent façade, Gabriella Bertucci has her reasons to be standoffish with guys. Especially guys like Landon Taylor, a star defenseman on the minor-league Detroit Pilots and the object of a serious crush since he first walked into her family's market. But when Landon comes through for her in a moment of crisis, Gaby starts to wonder if there might be more to Landon than hard muscles and fast skates.

Landon isn't afraid of telling Gaby that he's got it for her bad. The problem is, she seems unwilling to believe it. And though Landon enjoys his reputation as a cool-headed athlete, he hates losing - both on the rink and off. It's his competitiveness that makes him so damn good at what he does, but it also makes him just a little bit complicated. One minute Gaby's tempted to give in; the next she's getting cold feet. How can she trust a guy who's destined for bigger and better things to stick around? Then again, when Landon pulls her close with those powerful arms, the only thing that matters is right now.

Critic Reviews:

"Sophia Henry's hockey novels are fun and flirty, warm and sweet, with relatable heroines and swoon-worthy hockey heroes." (Kelly Jamieson, author of Limited Time Offer)

Wanted more depth

I enjoyed the characters of this book, but the writing style was a bit unorthodox. One minute the main character will bring up something that happened, but then it will be forgotten with no explanation when the current dialogue continues. It just felt stilted and I think it could have been developed more. None the less, the concept of the book was interesting, and I don't regret reading it.

Gabriella Bertucci has been crushing on Landon Taylor for years, but she didn't think he knew she was alive other than as a sales clerk. When a crisis occurs in the store while Landon is there, he steps in and helps her keep a cool head. He checks back in with her a few days later and lets it be known that he's interested in her.

Gaby has had some difficult times in the past, and doesn't know if she can trust that Landon really cares about her, but she decides to give in to temptation and go out with him. Will there be a future between the two of them, or is Landon just playing her until something new comes along?

Love Landon

After reading the first book, Delayed Penalty, I have been looking forward to getting my hands on the next one. I was not disappointed. This book has just about everything I look for in a book. Gabriella is the only daughter in an Italian family from Detroit. She and her family have run a produce market for generations. After suffering many family tragedies and a personal tragedy, Gaby now helps run the family's newest store celebrating Detroit artists and artisans. Landon is a local boy who now plays in the AHL hockey league, but is dying to make it to the NHL. They have known each other for years, both secretly crushing on each other. When another tragedy strikes and Landon happens to be there to help, he takes the chance on letting Gaby know how he feels.

Title: Too Close

Publisher: Audible Studios

Genres: Romance, Contemporary

Publisher's Summary:

Before A Beautiful Struggle, Katrina and David's friendship was a bond that couldn't be broken. Starting with that fated moment when David carried Katrina to the emergency room, we travel back through David's memories as he waits to hear if his best friend and the one woman he truly cares for are going to survive....

"I can't lose her. You don't understand how important she is to me," I ramble. I guess I'm in shock because all I can think about is the sight of all that blood over Katrina's beautiful face. "She's my world. I can't lose her."

Members Reviews:

High school romance

I loved how the book had his point of view and hers . The whole how they grew up together sneaking into their windows was so cute. I would glue my daughters window if she ever did this but it was cute and innocent in the book. Until they hit puberty and they start getting jealous of each other's romance interest . I loved the storyline him coming from an abusive family going to her to get away from all the yelling at his home. I can't wait to read the next book.

Classic Friendzoning Case

Katrina loves David, but she's afraid of loving him. David is a womanizer, but only because he doesn't want to hurt Katrina. They are two opposites; David has a tragic life, an alcoholic and absent father, and a mother that is trying her best while Katrina has two loving, but overprotective parents that look out for what they think is best. When David realizes he has messed up, can he save Katrina from herself and her new boyfriend.

My heart constantly broke for David. The story is told from his point of view, so his thoughts aren't a secret. Some of the terms were difficult to understand as they were Australian slang, but it was a good book. Another cliff hanger ending, but luckily the next book is a free download as well.

Heart breakingly beautiful.

This story was so beautifully written. I read a Beautiful Struggle a while back and was excited to read this. It gives you a good idea of their relationship growing up. I felt so bad for both of them throughout the book because it never wad right for them to get together. I loved this and I would definitely recommend this book to other readers who love this series.

4.5 Amazing-Why-The-Heck-Didn't-I-Read-This-Earlier-Stars!

What I love about "best friends" stories is how they progress. Nothing makes you more excited when you read about the slow kiss, nervous glances, and sweet hugs. Everything about David and Katrina was amazing!! Being best friends since preschool made them trust each other and even though the time goes on, their friendship stays strong no matter how bad the situations are that they are facing.

This story was a perfect beginning to, what I can predict, is an amazing series and I am looking forward to the next books. The tension and relationship that David and Trina progressed with is just breathtaking...

a beautiful friendship!!!!!!!! stunning book!!!!!!

This is such a beautiful book, heart worming to read how the Trina and David's friendship began and how committed and loyal they were to each other from the age of 9 years old.

I loved the book and it was a brilliant beginning for the series.

I will definitely read it again and it is so worth spending your time on this book.

It is the first book of this Author that I read.
