Eight months after the car crash that changed everything, FBI agent Aidan Talley is back at work. New department, new case, and a new partner. Smart, athletic, and handsome, Jameson Walker is 12 years his junior. Even if Aidan was ready to move on - and he's not - Jamie is off-limits.
Jamie's lusted after Aidan for three years, and the chance to work with San Francisco's top agent directly is too good to pass up. Aidan is prickly - to put it mildly - but a growing cyber threat soon proves Jamie's skills invaluable.
Jamie's talents paint a target on his back, and Aidan is determined to protect him. But with hack after hack threatening a high-security biocontainment facility, time is running out to thwart a deadly terrorist attack. They'll have to filter out distractions, on the case and in their partnership, to identify the real enemy, solve the case, and save thousands of lives, including their own.

** Cliffhanger Alert!! **
Returning to active duty after a horrific car wreck that took the life of Agent Aidan Talleys husband, Gabe, and his FBI partner, Tom, Aidan is getting a new partner: Jameson Whiskey Walker, a former basketball superstar who now works for the FBI as a Cyber Crimes genius.
The two are being paired up for several reasons, and proceed to look into a couple of cases new and old. The biggest mystery of the story may be who gave Aidans sister-in-law, and boss, a flash drive with information that makes it seem like his accident wasnt accidental at all.
Additionally, Aidan is attracted to Walker, but the guilt of wanting someone so soon after his husbands death weighs on him. Theres a whole will-they-wont-they thread with some delicious UST that works throughout the story, but Aidan needs to see whats in front of him and not keep clinging to the past in order to move towards personal happiness.
The story itself had a few hiccups for meIm obviously not an FBI agent, but the way the two approached both the case and the looking into Aidans crash, required an enormous suspension of disbelief. I find it hard to buy that a Special Agent in Charge (SAC) and a veteran agent would go so far off reservation, but thats why this is fiction.
The real jewel for me was Tristan James narration. He absolutely brings out the honeyed tones of Aidans slightly Irish (and more heavily Irish when hes emotional) accent and Whiskey Walkers warm southern accent. There are a lot of characters here and James provides everyone with easily distinguishable character voices that are easy to follow along and listen to. Tristan James brings out all the nuances of accents and his inflection in tone and pacing is wonderful. It makes this an absolute pleasure to listen to.
Suspension of disbelief aside, it was entertaining (primarily due to the narration), but ends with a pretty large cliffhanger, necessitating moving on to book two (especially the audio) to get some closure.
better than expected
It took me a minute to get into the story but the characters really came to life.
