But when one of the show's appraisers is found murdered, Molly realizes that once again she'll have to put on her detective's cap until the culprit is captured.

    Very Good
Ellery Adams is one of my favorite cozy mystery writers. She develops realistic characters and places them in real situations. This was another example of her writing skills. While on a writing assignment for Collectors Weekly, Molly stumbles onto scandal and murder. While she is investigating the mystery, she is plagued with doubt over her budding relationship with her co-worker, Mark. This is a very entertaining story. I look forward to the next book in the series.
    A good second installment
I enjoyed this second installment & feel like there's finally a bit more character building for Molly. During book 1 I was unsure who the main character was as a person; it was very surface level. Molly gets a bit more of an identity in this book & I hope it continues more because right now the characters are still a bit 1 dimensional and sometimes boring.
My favorite thing about this series is that Molly is the main character but her partner in crime is her mom. I've never seen that in a cozy before, and it's a sweet dynamic. Molly bounces all her ideas off Clara & enlists her help with investigating. Clara however is much more interested in the antiques themselves, so it makes it quite funny sometimes.
The other people in Molly's life seem to be Matt & her co worker (who plays a very minor role). But otherwise the rest of the cast varies book by book. I wish there were more characters that could be developed through each of the books, and that's my biggest "con." I will give book 3 a chance & hope it changes because as of now I'm not invested in any of the characters, which by book 2 a reader should be. They just feel like characters in a story & not characters who I "know."
If you're just looking for an easy listen then this fits the bill well. The narration is well done, the stories are intriguing with interesting historical backgrounds & the mystery has its share of twists. You can pick this book up at book 2 and won't feel lost if you haven't read book 1 yet. This series doesn't need to be read in order to be good!
    Richmond, Virginia and Antiques Galore
The second in Ellery Adams Antiques and Collectibles Mysteries Series is a very good one, although I'm partial to the first one, as I am a pottery lover . . .

    Drifter
Another good read..This series of books has been one of the best I have read.
    Previously good author preaches hatred
This book wasnt for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
People who think Obama was born outside the USA.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Anger. I don't pay good money for a mystery novel only to find it's really a political screed.
    Any additional comments?
If you believe Hillary Clinton would purposefully kill all students at two big grade schools and blow up two cruise ships -- just to gain power -- then this is the novel for you. It also makes the hero look like an idiot; a spy tells him this and his response is the equivalent of "Gee, who knew? That's amazing!" I HATE people twisting fiction to suit their political beliefs. Hated it when Steven Seagal used his movies to proselytize democratic agendas and hate it with David Archer using his (previously good) books to proselytize republican agendas.
    Great ending
I was expecting a completely different finish to the story so it came as a complete surprise - which made it great and leaves it open for more about my favourite detective and his delightful family. Well done David.

    Title: Honky Tonk Samurai

Length: 10 hrs and 13 mins
    Language: English

Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Modern Detective
    Publisher's Summary:
Now the basis of the new series on SundanceTV.
Only Hap and Leonard would catch a cold case with hot cars, hot women, and ugly skinheads.
The story starts simply enough when Hap, a former '60s activist and self-proclaimed white trash rebel, and Leonard, a tough black, gay Vietnam vet and Republican with an addiction to Dr. Pepper, are working a freelance surveillance job in East Texas. The uneventful stakeout is coming to an end when the pair witness a man abusing his dog. Leonard takes matters into his own fists, and now the bruised dog abuser wants to press charges.
One week later, a woman named Lilly Buckner drops by their new PI office with a proposition: Find her missing granddaughter, or she'll turn in a video of Leonard beating the dog abuser. The pair agrees to take on the cold case and soon discover that the used car dealership where her granddaughter worked is actually a front for a prostitution ring. The mystery of her disappearance only deepens from there.
Filled with Lansdale's trademark whip-smart dialogue, relentless pacing, and unorthodox characters, Honky Tonk Samurai is a rambunctious thrill ride by one hell of a writer.
    Critic Reviews:
"Employing an East Texas drawl, narrator Christopher Grant ably gives voice to the mismatched investigators and their longtime friends and allies, along with ne'er-do-wells.... Grant's laconic delivery helps provide a Dust Bowl feel to this suspenseful production, right through its twist of an ending." (

    Members Reviews:
    More Classic Hap and Leonard
First things first might as well get it out of the way, Phil Gigante is not the narrator of this book after a long a successful history of narrating Joe R. Lansdale books a change had to be made (see last part of review for more info as to why) Christoper Ryan Grant does a decent job of filling in those giant boots though. He didn't have the range of Gigante but does a passable good ol boys accent which seems to fit the setting, maybe a bit more deep south vs South/South western. But it doesn't distract from the story which is the most important thing.
Story wise Lansdale remains at the top of his game. The language of these books have always been their strong parts and Honky Tonk Samurai carries that forward. There are absurdist moments, that literally had me laughing out loud in the check out line while listening on my ipod. In many ways you know what you are going to get when listen to a Hap and Leonard novel, the two long time friends who are the laid back get along to get by type of guys are pulled into some form of trouble/mystery and have to fight curse and con their way out of it. I won't spoil things but will say there are some significant changes to the formula in Honky Tonk that break the status quo and may point to end game for the dynamic duo. The story features many series favorites putting in appearances including the fun and cocky Jim Bob Luke, the grizzled veteran Martin and of course the tough as nails but still manages to be sexy Brett.
I would say, you would enjoy the story if this is your first Hap and Leonard novel, but you will get a much deeper appreciation if you have been following the series up to this point, as it does touch on themes and relationships that have developed over the history of the two main characters.

Great audio book to hear while cooking and knitting ...good story ..like the main character.
    It was okay
The characters were well developed and the mystery well plotted. I felt that the story was a bit dry. There wasn't very much humor.

    Publisher's Summary:
Detective Sergeant Lucy Black is visiting her father, a patient in a secure unit in Gransha Hospital on the banks of the River Foyle. He's been hurt badly in an altercation with another patient, and Lucy is shocked to discover him chained to the bed for safety. But she barely has time to take it all in before an orderly raises the alarm - a body has been spotted floating in the river below....
The body of an elderly man in a grey suit is hauled ashore: he is cold dead. He has been dead for several days. In fact a closer examination reveals that he has already been embalmed. A full-scale investigation is launched - could this really be the suicide they at first assumed, or is this some kind of sick joke?
Troubled and exhausted, Lucy goes back to her father's shell of a house to get some sleep; but there'll be no rest for her tonight. She's barely in the front door when a neighbour knocks, in total distress - his wife's sister has turned up badly beaten. Can she help?
In Preserve the Dead, Brian McGilloway weaves a pacy, intricate plot, full of tension to the very last second. DS Lucy Black's third outing since the best-selling Little Girl Lost confirms her as one of the decade's most original female detectives: strong, sensitive and ever determined.

    McGilloway does it again
McGilloway has a beautiful way of building a story that makes it as if I'm there. Every book has been as good as the last.
    Disappointed
Not as good as previous books couldn't hold my attention, unfortunately sending audio book back
    A Great Read
Brian McGilloway gets better and better in this DS Lucy Black series. This being the latest novel of the three to date. I can't wait to read story four. There is plenty of action and adventure surrounding DS Lucy Black, plenty of twists and turns, as the case unfolds. McGilloway brings the novel alive as the story and action develop. I would definitely recommend this author.
Caroline Lennon, Narrator continues her outstanding telling/acting of the story. Fantastic.
Took long time to get to the storyline. It's okay but I don't think I would choose this author again.
    Not for me.
Thought there could have been more meat to the story.
Tried too hard to be what it didn't have the content to be.
    Another hit for McGilloway
What did you like most about Preserve the Dead?
I love the character of Lucy Black.
What does Caroline Lennon bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you had only read the book?
Caroline Lennon is my favourite narrator. She is so good, I think I could listen to her read the telephone book.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, but who has the time. I did listen to it within 36 hours.
    Any additional comments?
This series featurng Lucy Black (now DI) is really good. Great characters, stories and pretty flawless writing. I hope we don't have to wait a year for the next one.

    Good Entry in the Series
A suspicious death. A "haunted" house. A mysterious stranger. Sounds like Jessica Fletcher has another mystery to solve.
I'm a long time fan of this series. I enjoyed it when it was on TV and I've read many of the books. The pace is moderate, there is no graphic sex or violence, and no crude language. When I want something relaxing and enjoyable this series is a good choice for me.
If you've enjoyed other books in the series, you'll probably like this one.
    The best of the series
I love this series. Some of the stories were not so great but this was fun, suspenseful and full of life. (Murder mystery...full of life). Anyway, this is a great read and really the absolute best.
    Hated it!!!
I love the Murder she wrote movies so I thought the books would be fun to listen to. This book was so boring and the narrator was terrible. I didn't finish listening to this book, the narrator killed the characters .
    Did not disappoint!
Great story line. Not easily predictable. Kept me entertained and ready for more. Looking forward to the next book.
Another great Murder She Wrote audiobook
What did you love best about Murder, She Wrote: The Ghost and Mrs. Fletcher?
I am such a fan of the TV series, that it is a pleasure to be able to listen to mystery stories that are a novelized continuation of the MSW TV series. The author, Donald Bain has made a real effort to stay consistent with the characters while keeping the story lines fresh and new. Sandra Burr does a very good job as the voice of Jessica Fletcher and the other voices as well. I really enjoyed this story for the mystery and for the continued writing that is keeping Cabot Cove, Maine and the character of Jessica Fletcher alive.

Loved the characters and culture of Maui in this story. An interesting listen with intrigue and twists. But the Hawaiian culture is the best part of the story for me.
    Another good one!
A very good story, and interesting information about the history of and life in Hawaii.
    One of the best stories.
This is an excellent tale that brings in multicultural aspects many Americans would do well to be informed of. I enjoyed the mixture of science and Hawaiian mysticism, as well as the frank look at how corporate America often misses the bigger picture in pursuing profits. Publisher's Summary:
Sonchai Jitpleecheep is back! The Royal Thai Police detective, our wily, sometimes madly bold guide through the author's previous acclaimed Bangkok novels, is this time on the trail of an American conspiracy and once again - and closer than ever - on the trail of his American father.
With Sonchai on this case is the young female inspector, Krom. Like Sonchai, she's an outsider on the police force, but unlike him she is socially savvy and a technological prodigy. When they're called to a demonstration - in the midst of a typhoon - of the deadly, superhuman strength of an American man who is seemingly controlled by a CIA operative, they have no idea what they're actually witnessing or why. Their reliably obtuse and unequivocally crooked boss, Colonel Vikorn, explains some of it, but the most telling questions remain unanswered: Could the Americans have figured out a way to create a physically and psychologically enhanced super soldier? Are they testing him - or it - on Thai soil? And why is everyone, from the Bangkok police to the international community, so eager to turn a blind eye?
    Members Reviews:
Stunning, terrifying, must read in case this is our future
A truly frightening possible future, given the direction of technology and the desperately unenlightened behavior of the human race.
Though performed with admirably dramatic reading, the sound engineering is flawed for listening in any but the quietest environment. I listen while driving and the huge difference in volume between emphatic and whispered words--often in the same sentence--made it nearly impossible to find a usable volume setting. I had to frequently backspace, turn up the volume, relisten, then turn it down again.
But it was worth the effort. Get this book now. The best of the Bangkok series.
    So disappointing!
I had hope after Vulture Peak that the author had realized that the disaster of the Kathmandu book shouldnt be repeated. Unfortunately, he decided to go even weirder and write an absolutely incomprehensible and horrible book. Sonchai was interesting before, now hes wasted in the authors odd sci fi / Buddha mash up. Sad. I wont be reading any more of this series
Interesting story but poor narration stopped me from finishing the book
The narrator of this book modulates the pitch and volume of his voice very poorly. Specifically, he begins most sentences very loudly but then trails off the latter part of every sentence to the extent that to understand each sentence in full, one must constantly turn the volume up as he trails off into almost whispering. But if you're not quick to reset the volume back to a low setting, his voice comes booming out at a painful decibel level, particularly when he uses his old fashioned, really obnoxious sounding "Oriental" voice (I choose my words carefully, when he speaks for most of the female, Thai characters, the narrator's voice sounds like Mickey Rooney portraying "Mr. Yunioshi" in Breakfast at Tiffany's).

When Rachel Lindstrom fled from her rural hometown in Western Illinois to join the State Department and see the world, she never expected to return with her life in tatters. But after the horrors of war and a painful divorce, the only place where she can rebuild is the town she once escaped.
At home, however, there is little comfort. Her brother, still reeling from his wife's suicide, struggles to run the family farm and handle a hell-raising son. Rachel's arrival also draws a pair of rival suitors: her brother's handsome friend and a rough-hewn sheriff's deputy who pined for her in high school. Romance is the last thing on Rachel's mind, but a little comfort would be nice - except for the complications.
When a deranged killer escapes from a local prison, the far-flung farmsteads go on high alert - especially when the bodies start turning up. And in a county where the miles outnumber the people, it soon becomes clear that the madman is close behind Rachel.

    Really disappointed
One of my first Audible books. The narrative was interesting, but a bit repetitive. But the two things that really drove me crazy were the narrator and the ending. The narrator has a habit of emphasizing the wrong words in a sentence or overemphasizing too many words. I found this extremely distracting. It also illustrated to me how important the narrator is in interpreting an audible book. Although I enjoyed most of this book, the ending seemed so contrived and out of left field, that I was not even interested in the unraveling and explaining of the story in the final chapters. I do love Audible though!
    Good suspense
I'm excited to have found a new suspense writer. And the narrator is good too. I'll be purchasing more of Sam Reaves's books to listen to.
    meh so so
nice twist but seriously, the story could have been told in 1/3 of the time. A LOT of whining and pity-partying made by the main characters, who were fairly one-dimensional. every conversation had an 'I'm sorry' which got tiresome.
    Wonderfully read!
Enjoyed the story, but have to admit it was the narrator who kept me waiting to hear more! Can't wait to hear more books narrated by Alice St.Clair!
