    Title: The Redeemers
    Author: Ace Atkins
    Narrator: Brian D'Arcy James
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 11 hrs and 4 mins
    Language: English

    Publisher's Summary:
The electrifying new novel in New York Times best-selling author Ace Atkins' acclaimed series about the real Deep South.
He is only in his early 30s, but now Quinn Colson is jobless - voted out of office as sheriff of Tibbehah County, Mississippi, thanks to the machinations of county kingpin Johnny Stagg. He has offers from bigger and better places, but before he goes, he's got one more job to do - bring down Stagg's criminal operations for good. At least that's the plan. But in the middle of the long, hot summer, a trio of criminals stage a bold, wall-smashing break-in at the home of a local lumber mill owner, making off with a million dollars in cash from his safe, which is curious, because the mill owner is wealthy - but not that wealthy.
None of this has anything to do with Colson, but during the investigation, two men are killed, one of them the new sheriff. His friend, acting sheriff Lillie Virgil, and a dangerous former flame, Anna Lee Stevens, both ask him to step in, and reluctantly he does, only to discover that that safe contained more than just money - it held secrets. Secrets that could either save Colson - or destroy him once and for all.

    Great read
Ace Atkins always tells a great story that feels true. This story, like the previous Quinn Colton stories is worth the listen.
A true version of the south
Ace Atkins again gives us a great crime story that highlights the hypocrisy thar is the South: pious, racist folk who step over their mother's dead body for a penny. Quinn Colson knows the world does not work that way and these stories are about his struggle against a society bent on being evil. It is a losing proposition, but I enjoy and admire his effort. I look forward to the new book. Great listen: the actor does an excellent job with voices.
    Quinn Colson = ACES
What made the experience of listening to The Redeemers the most enjoyable?
My review is for those who have listened to series. Outstanding and a home run! Johnny Stagg is no longer, finally stung by planted FBI agent. Quinn weaved throughout series of twists and turns.
    Comes Together in the End
I have read all of Ace Atkins' Quinn Colson books. The beginning of this story was loose and all over the place, but after the first five or six chapters the storyline tightened up and made for an interesting read. As a native of North Mississippi, I think Atkins does a great job of portraying both the good, bad, and craziness of the area. I wish the narrator would learn how to pronounce Natchez Trace, crappie, and bream; but those are small annoyances. Overall, I highly recommend all of Atkins' books.
Maybe I'll make it through to the end.
Ace Atkins is a good author. The Quinn Colson series has been a good one. This book is so bogged down in four-letter words that the story is all but lost. This is frankly boring. The narration is well done, probably the saving grace for the book.

    EXIT STAGE LEFT...
It's Opening Night at the Ballantyne Foundation's production of The Nutcracker, but it's curtains for the Sugar Plum Fairy. When her body is found backstage, fatally poisoned by a cupcake she baked herself, rumors turn to suicide. But Elli Lisbon, director of the Ballantyne and coordinator of the ballet, smells something rotten amidst the sugar and spice.
As Elli applies her PI-in-training skills on the troupe of suspects, she discovers an eccentric herbalist, a temperamental chef, a stalking choreographer, and a bevy of backstage secrets. Between her off-the-record investigation, duty as director, and highly-charged love life, she finds herself caught in a dance to stay one pirouette ahead of a half-baked killer.

    A Refreshingly Different Cozy!
Elliott Lisbon is the complete antithesis to your typical cozy heroine. She doesn't cook and thinks a root canal would be preferable to being with young children. But her sense of humor and Lynn's voice are simply incredible. Lynn writes a fast-paced mystery, weaving details about Elliott's profession as director of the Ballantyne Foundation seamlessly into the narrative without ever letting the reader lose sight of the mystery. A remarkable achievement!
I did guess who the killer was, but only because the person in question was my first suspect, in any case, not because Lynn gives anything away. I did not, however, guess the murderer's motive.
    Elliott does not disappoint.
So many twists and turns and ups and downs...but PLENTY of laughs. Elliott Lisbon is in a class by herself. I have a soft spot for mysteries that add loads of comedy. All 3 books featuring Elliott are spot on. There is no lack of amusement. From the opening I'm drawn to suspecting everyone. Truthfully I didn't figure it out until I read it on the pages. Kendel Lynn has the gift of weaving characters and plots in an entertaining way.
I've grown to love the zany members of the board and friends throughout the series. Enjoy your adventure with Elliott as she tries to outwit wit Ransom and solve the case!
So when can I expect the next?
    With a twist
In this story, the communication part is so clever! I had an idea who, but it was interesting how the communication was planned. A week before Christmas, I just read all day. I'm so glad Elliott is smart and can compare things in her life. I love that that Vivi and Edward are her family. They love her and treat her like their daughter. Cannot wait to read the next book. I have a lot to do this week so it might wait till the day after Christmas. I have something to look forward to on the 26th! Merry Christmas everyone.!
I have read all four books of this wonderful series and loved them all!
Great reading... Funny, sexy, exciting, and you never know who-dun-it till the very end. Ellliot Lisbon is indeed, the southern version of Stepanie Plum.
    Not classical literature but fun.
These books are just a fun read, no thinking involved. Elliott Lisbon is the director of the Ballantine foundation, housed on an Island in SC. She is a private eye in training, and seems to find an awful lot of "cases" to solve, all involving the two men in her life, Matty the local headmaster, who loves her madly, and Nick, the local cop, who she loves madly. She simply can't make up her mind between the two.

    EXCELLENT!
Good series. The plot was very interesting. With plots and subplots which I find very intriguing indeed. Victoria Thompson is a wonderful writer and Suzanne performed the different characters giving them individual personalities and voices. I am waiting patiently for the next book which will be published in November.
I loved it! they're finally married!
the way this whole story has developed with Frank and Sarah and all they've been through and falling in love and getting married is pure genius. I love this writing and will continue to read every one you ever write.
    Murder on Amsterdam Avenue
Loved the story once again as usual! And once again, I want to finish this and get going on the next story!
    Toren does another great narration
What did you love best about Murder on Amsterdam Avenue?
The plot for this book is well-done, although not as violent or "graphic'' as some in this series (esp the early ones.). As usual, author Thompson adds history and context to the period. Narrator Suzanne Toren has narrated the second half of this series's books (the 1st 8 apparently were never read for audiobooks), and really lifts the series above the ordinary. She does a great job with the voices, especially Sarah Brandt and Det Sgt Malloy, who finally are headed toward the altar.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Sarah Brandt, who continues to evolve over the course of this series.
Have you listened to any of Suzanne Torens other performances before? How does this one compare?
I'm a fan of Toren's work, and VERY glad that the publishers and author have been consistent in using Toren for all the books in this series that have been given the audiobook treatment. Too many terrific book series (the late Barbara Parker's "Suspicion of" series, and the more recent Scottoline books) have been ruined, IMO by poor decisions to switch narrators. It looked like Nevada Barr's Anna Pigeon series was headed down that same sorry route, but it appears that Barbara Rosenblat has been redeployed -- a good thing.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    Sure.
    Any additional comments?
I REALLY would like to see Toren narrate the first eight books in this series, which apparently have never had audiobook versions.

    Patricia goes to the dogs.
ok. this was the worst Patricia Cornwell ever! The story was stupid and it sounded like something written by a junior high student. HARD TO FINISH. I love Patricia Cornwell usually. And I usually enjoy her medical, forensic and computer info, as well as her characters Marino, Lucy and Kay. Hopefully they will return.
Silly, trite and not Cornwell's best
If you want a silly story with mediocre narration, this is it. Story line rambles and Karen White's character accents are poor at best.
Humorous in parts, tedious in others
Enjoyed the book overall. parts were pretty funny, but it dragged in places. I would recommend it to select friends.
    Funny and entertaining, unexpected
Having read several of Cromwell's books, this was a surprise. Actually a pleasant surprise. Try it
Not as good as the second book on the series
Got rid of Virginia West with no explanation. Trooper truth essays would have had the same affect if they were cut in half. Story was too predictable and a little too goofy for my liking.

    Members Reviews:
    Excellent..
Alrighty then, this was one great love story and a terrific story about a physic and a non-believer that she soon convinced she was the real thing. This was about a kidnapped 18 month old boy who had been stolen from his mother from the park, where the bad guy had injected her with something and took off with Benjy. Whatever Lauren was injected with nearly killed her and when she woke up she begged her brother, Trey, to go to Arkansas and get Jaida West, the physic. Thus, began the trip back to L A then on to Boston then to a theme park when they found the baby. Whew, what Jaida went through when it came to crowds was just horrendous. Benjy was found at about 60 or 62% and the rest of the book was centered on finding out who did it and why. AND having Trey realize he was in love with Jaida, of course.
The chemistry between Trey and Jaida was incredible. They just had to jet passed the electrical pulses that shot through both of them when they touched; yeah, that was interesting. And it was so funny how servers reacted when she ordered food, 2 cheeseburgers, French fries, soda and a milk shake, as an example. She was very thin but she had to eat that way at every meal for strength. Trey told her once that they needed to order room service so she could get her 5000 calories for that day.
The rest of the book was about getting Laurens husband being arrested for all sorts of things, including murder, and catching the second kidnapper that got away. It was a very exciting book.
The only thing wrong with the book was the title and the cover. I almost didnt buy this because of them. It was more of a love and paranormal story than it was a story about Benjy. And it had several sex scenes that were explicit. It was a good story but it wasnt ALL about the kid and thats what the cover and title wants to make you believe. But Im glad I listened to it.
As to the narration: Coleen Marlo was pretty good. Not all that much emotion but at least her men sounded like men. Thats all I can ask. I would listen to her again.

The case may be cold, but the killer is very much alive - and ready to go to any lengths to keep past secrets buried...
    Critic Reviews:
"It's a suspenseful whodunit with several possible suspects." (RT Book Reviews)
    Members Reviews:
    EXCELLENT Author, GOOD Narrator
Would you listen to The Walled Flower again? Why?
I would because I love Lorraine Bartlett's books. I'm not, however, too taken with Jorjeana Marie's narration. Even though she was clear, I don't like the way some people talk like they have a frog in their throat and need to clear it, or that they just got out of bed - she made some characters sound like that. And it was a little slow for me - I could read it much faster.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Yes, Lorraine knows just how to keep a person on the edge of their seat by putting characters in scary situations.
Which character as performed by Jorjeana Marie was your favorite?
Katie - no frog throat for the most part.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
    A down home, cozy thriller!
    Any additional comments?
I love Lorraine Bartlett's writing, and I highly recommend reading or listening to her books!
    The Walled Flower
This is the second visit to Artisans Alley and Victoria Square and Katie Bonner has her hands full. A welcome to the neighborhood visit turns up more than new neighbors at the Victorian mansion Katie has been pining over. Soon Katie is juggling trying to help her friend Rose find closure over the murder of her niece, get an elderly bridezilla married and settle disputes between two vendors at Artisans Alley, all while trying to prevent becoming homeless!
Enjoyably narrated by Jorjeana Marie. I love I this series and this book.
    Really, really annoying.
This is the second book in this series. I wish I hadn't bought it. The first book wasn't very good, but I thought it was good enough that the series would improve and be more interesting as it went on. This book is worse, by far. The main character, Katie, is a truly annoying person. She allows herself to be taken advantage of by a "friend" who uses blatant emotional blackmail to get free labor and free cash from her as a matron of honor for a short notice wedding, but for some stupid reason she won't tell this user/abuser to just get lost. She allows a friend and useful booth holder at her craft mall to be psychologically abused and physically threatened by one of the other booth holders for absolutely no reason that I can fathom (she should be sued for allowing this to go on, in my opinion).

It's hard to recognize the devil when his hand is on your shoulder. That's because a psychopath is just a person before he becomes a headline... Psychopaths have preferences for Starbucks or Dunkin' Donuts coffee, denim or linen, Dickens or... well, you get the point.
Ex-FBI agent Brigid Quinn has seen more than her share of psychopaths. She is ready to put all that behind her, building a new life in Tucson with a husband, friends, and some nice quiet work as a private investigator. Sure, she could still kill a man half her age, but she now gets her martial arts practice by teaching self-defense at a women's shelter. But sometimes it isn't that simple.
When her sister-in-law dies, Brigid take in her 17-year-old niece Gemma-Kate. There has always been something unsettling about Gemma-Kate, but family is family. Which is fine, until Gemma-Kate starts taking an unhealthy interest in dissecting the local wildlife. Meanwhile, Brigid agrees to help a local couple by investigating the death of their son - which also turns out not to be that simple. Her house isn't the sanctuary it used to be, and new dangers - including murder - seem to lurk everywhere. Brigid starts to wonder if there is anyone she can trust, or if the devil has simply moved closer to home.
Becky Masterman's Fear the Darkness is the masterful follow-up to the Edgar Award and CWA Gold Dagger finalist Rage Against the Dying.
    Members Reviews:
    Masterman Does It Again
What made the experience of listening to Fear the Darkness the most enjoyable?
I chose Rage Against the Dying (the first book in the series) on a whim. I loved the narrator, Judy Kaye, who read the Sue Grafton's Alphabet mysteries. I enjoyed the first Brigid Quinn mystery and was looking so forward to the 2nd. When I found out there was a different narrator, I was disappointed but because I enjoyed the story; I gave it a try. Even better than the first. Suzanne Toren does a marvelous job narrating this story. She gives life to each character, and the story is wonderful. Brigid is a "retired" agent trying to settle down but something or someone always keeps her in the game. At first the details seem so wide apart that you think there is no way everything can be related. Once again, Masterman does a splendid job weaving a story web of twists. I truly didn't see it coming. Looking forward to the 3rd in the series.
What did you like best about this story?
Humor - Brigid (through the narrator) just makes you crack up constantly. As hard as she tries, she will always have her career as a part of her life.
Which character as performed by Suzanne Toren was your favorite?
All were splendid. She gives life to each one. Brigid and Mallory were definitely my favorites. She does a great job differentiating between them.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Who Can You Trust? Brigid's niece comes to live with her after her ailing mother dies. Like Brigid, Gemma Kate is definitely a Quinn to the bone. Is Brigid going crazy or is GK a psychopathic nut job?
    Any additional comments?
The narrator deserves so much of the credit in these books. They truly make the Audible experience enjoyable.
    Wanted to like it more
I was a little disappointed after enjoying book 1 so much. I found myself getting increasingly annoyed with the characters. Too much suspending my disbelief....

In this spellbinding new novel of suspense from New York Times bestselling author James Grippando, Miami's top prosecutor becomes a prime suspect in his wife's disappearance, which may have a chilling connection to the woman he can't forget.
Unbelievable was the word for her. Samantha Vine was unbelievably beautiful. It was unbelievable that she'd married me. Even more unbelievable that she was gone...
Samantha died too soon. Abe Beckham's new wife has helped him through the loss, but some say it was a step back for Abe to marry Angelina, a love from his past. Abe doesn't want to hear it, and he's even managed to remain a star prosecutor at the Miami State Attorney's Office through his ups and downs.
Then everything goes wrong. A woman's body is discovered dumped in the Everglades, and Abe is called upon to monitor the investigation. The FBI is tracking a killer in South Florida they call "Cutter" because his brutal methods hark back to Florida's dark past, when machete-wielding men cut sugarcane by hand in the blazing sun.
When Angelina goes missing, the respected attorney finds himself under fire. Suspicion surrounds him. His closest friends, family, professional colleagues, and the media no longer trust his motives. Was Angelina right? Was their marriage not what they'd hoped for because he loved Samantha too much? Or was there another woman... and a husband with a dark side who simply wanted his new wife gone?

Well crafted story with some weakness
For an author that I've never heard of, this story is extremely well written. I was pleasantly surprised by the pace and and storytelling. I must say though that I was a little let down by a somewhat abrupt end that was rather weak. But what stands out for me was the brilliant narration by Jonathan Davis. In fact, it is very likely that I rated the story higher than a 3 simply due to the performance by Davis. All in all, it is well worth the credit and I expect to download more by the author.
"Careful Of Being A Good Samaritan"
Where does Cane and Abe rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
I have one of the "Jack Swytec" stories, set on an oil rig. That book was not my cup of tea and I didn't buy more "Swytec stories.
If you did see the film " Gone Girl" and it got on your nerves, then this book is not for you. However, I felt this book had that flavor, and it was a good listen with a fast pace mystery.
This book had better writing and editing than the previous older book I had listened to from this author.
I will seek out the new #12 Swytec book from this author as the reviews were good.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
yes the plot kept you on the edge with hints of clues as to who dun nit.
What about Jonathan Daviss performance did you like?
I love listening to J.D. reads, and try to buy what I can of his mystery genre. His best for me is Sandra Brown's Mean Streak. He does latin voices so well and he can interpret what an author wishes to achieve. Since he does mostly Sci Fi, I don't get much choices for J.D. mystery authors so I take what I can based on author reviews.
    Any additional comments?
Note: listen to this book on new 1.25x speed to get the most of this author's intent.
