    The Best in the Series
This was the funniest and most engaging of the series. The story is well written with funny characters and twists and turns to keep the plot moving. The interesting tidbits about the places in France and the poignant World War 2 stories added substance to the fluffy nature of the story. I would love to travel with Emily and the Iowa seniors. They are funny and entertaining. I hope this isn't the last book in the series. This book is a must read.

Sure, Jackie Thum's newly published novel might not be Hemingway, but bad reviews from her fellow travelers have Emily Andrew's transgender ex-husband (Jackie was formerly Jack) steaming like a sauna. It's a dismal start to their Scandinavian tour, and group leader Emily is getting that sinking feeling in Helsinki: Something fishy this way comes.
When Jackie's most outspoken critic, a Floridian from a picture-perfect gated community called The Hamlets, is found dead, suspicion falls on Jackie - who surprises everyone with an airtight alibi. But when another guest turns up dead, Emily realizes there is a killer hiding among them. Herrings, both red and pickled, abound on a Norwegian fjord cruise - and Jackie is suddenly nowhere to be found.
With her mother arranging a wedding disaster for Emily back home in Iowa, Emily must somehow salvage her nuptials from overseas while icing a killer - before someone else meets a nasty Finnish.

Good lightweight and silly cozy mystery
Has it been a tough week for you? The boss didn't like your presentation, your important project took too long to complete and didn't come out the way you wanted, the cat hurked up a hairball on the carpet... whatever. You're ready for something silly and funny: mental cotton candy. But not something dumb -- just easy to disappear into for a few hours.
Norway to Hide is a great option. This book, well along in the series in which our heroine is tour guide to retirees from Iowa, has the implausible attraction of a black-and-white Katherine Hepburn/Spencer Tracy movie. Aside from the unlikelihood of an overly fashion-conscious tour guide stumbling across multiple dead bodies on holiday trips... well, it doesn't really matter. This is fun, and never mind the plot holes, weak mystery elements, and rather strange characterizations. The recurring characters and an evenhanded storytelling style hold it all together.
I can't give you a good "analysis" of the book because it'll just sound dumb, rather than lighthearted and amusing. But if you're ready for beach reading (even with only an imaginary beach), you'll probably enjoy this book.
If you're thinking of this as a light way to explore Norway (planning a vacation, are you?), don't choose the book on that account. There's plenty of action as the characters travel through the region, but I got less of a sense of "Here's what I'd see if I visited Norway" than I did from, say, Pasta Imperfect. (Er, in that case it showed me what it'd be like to visit Italy. Not Norway. Don't be so picky.)
Nominally I'd tell you to start at the beginning of the series to get the most out of the book; the characters have developed over several novels. But realistically you _could_ start here without feeling as though you're missing much. Nothing in the story depends on knowledge of what's gone before; this is more standalone than others in the series.
    Norway bound
It was an ok book, I guess. I liked the Norway part of it and enjoyed the travel scenes. Jackie was just a little creepy to me but then I am a pretty much straight-laced old lady and just don't get some things. Jackie was a bit too hysterical at times, too. I have liked Maddy Hunter's other books better, I think.

    Scratches and Indiana Jones itch!
A professor of ancient cultures whom prefers field work? An ultra rich woman focused on world domination at any cost? The dulcet tones of Luke Daniels, the audio equivalet of a young Harrison Ford?
Yes, please! And more while you're asking!
Yet another archelogist tramping around the world!
Would you try another book from Ben Mezrich and/or Luke Daniels?
Probably. Daniels is a consumate performer, and does alot with the material here, but this story was somewhat lame ( as in, simplistic )
If youve listened to books by Ben Mezrich before, how does this one compare?
    My first.
    Which scene was your favorite?
The conclusion in ( no spoiler here ) the garden rocked.
Could you see Seven Wonders being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
    I hope not.
    Any additional comments?
This offering is mild entertainment. Daniels does his usual fine work with rather simple material ( the concept is cool, the execution, not so much.)
    Recommended mildly.
    Robert Langdon???
Indiana Jones meets Robert Langdon to get to Jurassic Park.
I liked Rigged and Ugly Americans a lot better.
too much use of passive voice, predictable
character development was lacking. listened all the way through with many, many, many face palms.
    He should stick to Non-fiction
    Too many tropes. Very predictable.
Why does a review need a full fifteen words? Huh.

Detective Stephen Moran hasn't seen Holly Mackey since she was a nine-year-old witness to the events of Faithful Place. Now she's 16 and she's shown up outside his squad room, with a photograph and a story. Even in her exclusive boarding school, in the graceful golden world that Stephen has always longed for, bad things happen and people have secrets. The previous year, Christopher Harper, from the neighbouring boys' school, was found murdered on the grounds. And today, in the Secret Place - the school noticeboard where girls can pin up their secrets anonymously - Holly found the card. Solving this case could take Stephen onto the Murder squad. But to get it solved, he will have to work with Detective Antoinette Conway - tough, prickly, an outsider, everything Stephen doesn't want in a partner. And he will have to find a way into the strange, charged, mysterious world that Holly and her three closest friends inhabit and disentangle the truth from their knot of secrets, even as he starts to suspect that the truth might be something he doesn't want to hear. From the multi-award-winning author of Sunday Times and New York Times best seller In the Woods, The Secret Place is a searing novel of psychological suspense.
    Critic Reviews:
"It's terrific - terrifying, amazing, and the prose is incandescent" (Stephen King)
A wonderfully tender and savage thriller about loyalty, teenage friendship and first loves. Gripping and ingenious" (Kate Mosse)
"The thing Tana French does better than almost any living crime writer is create suspense. She makes you feel as if you're the detective, and your whole future career, not to mention your mental equilibrium, depends upon working out the solution to the puzzle" (Sophie Hannah)
"I've been enthusiastically telling everyone who will listen to read Tana French" (Harlan Coben)
    Members Reviews:
    A great read
After some of the reviews I was a little worried about this one but I have thoroughly enjoyed the book. I find that Tana French is going from strength to strength with her first books being alright but not really standing out from the crowd but Broken Harbour and The Secret Place are excellent. I love the description in this, there's just enough to paint a picture, very much show, not tell, and not so much as to overdo it. There is quality in her writing, such as one finds in good, gritty poetry. The story is good and the narration spot on. There was some criticism of the language used, too much "like" and "Irishisms" but that's how people talk in Dublin so is perfectly realistic. The two main detective characters were very well rendered and the girls totally believable. I didn't find the story too long because the writing has sufficient quality to be able to savour that length, it's not all about how fast you can get to the end.
    Far too long
This started off promisingly. An old fashioned closed community whodunnit. About 4 hours in I started to toil. Not enough action, far too much slow-paced detail. The narration is pretty good if somewhat annoying because much of it is told in the voice of teenage girls which wears thin after a while. I kept going till it was clear who had done it and then gratefully abandoned the remaining few hours.

    Publisher's Summary:
Readers and listeners who relish heated passion and chilling suspense love New York Times best-selling author Karen Robards's acclaimed novels featuring Dr. Charlotte "Charlie" Stone. A heroine with a keen mind for catching killers and a soft heart for bad boys, Charlie is back in this third sizzling paranormal romance thriller.
    Her last whisper
Madness and murder invaded Dr. Charlotte Stone's life when she was just a girl - and made her a woman determined to save others from the horror she survived. An expert in the psychology of serial killers, she's faced down more than her share of human monsters. But Charlie can also communicate with the spirits of those who die violently, an extrasensory skill that has helped the FBI bring lethal predators to justice. Now, after narrowly escaping death a second time, Charlie's ready to step away from the edge - before her luck runs out.
Too bad Charlie is too dedicated for her own good - and too devoted to federal agent Tony Bartoli to say no when he asks her to ride shotgun on yet another risky mission. Of course, she already has her hands full with Michael Garland: the handsome, roguish ghost with whom she's hopelessly in love - a spirit who depends on Charlie to keep him from slipping forever into the dark side of the afterlife. But in the mortal world, beautiful single women are vanishing from Las Vegas hotels at night. All signs indicate that a psychopath is on the prowl in Sin City, and Bartoli's FBI colleague Lena Kaminsky has reason to fear that her missing sister may be just the killer's type.
In a town full of fast players and few rules, flushing out a smooth-talking stalker like the Cinderella Killer might be a loser's game. But for Charlie, the only way to cage her quarry is to plunge back into the homicidal hell she vowed to leave behind - and may not leave alive.

    I'm on "Team Bartoli"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would, as long as the person can suspend belief to deal with the main character's nonsensical affection for a dead guy. I just don't get it... Maybe its because I have background in Forensic Psychology (the background of the main character), but that for me is the main draw of this series, not the romance that I just can't seem to get into.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I love Tam, Charlotte's psychic friend. She sees sense and is a nice voice of reason to her friend.
    Which scene was your favorite?
I do have to hand it to Karen Robards, she knows how to get her characters into some very nasty situations and keep the tension going even if we, the readers, are reasonably sure things will end up all right. The finale in this one didn't quite go down how I thought, but it was satisfying.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The ending was nice and tense, but I was expecting it
    Any additional comments?
It's frustrating reading a series in which I am not interested in the "romance", or the main character constantly checking out the dead guy over the nice living guy, but the murder cases are excellent.

    Publisher: Recorded Books
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 113 votes
Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Modern Detective
    Publisher's Summary:
Fan favorite Etta Mae Wiggins takes center stage in the latest novel in Ann B. Ross' New York Times best-selling Miss Julia series with another lively adventure set in Miss Julia's Abbotsville. For the first time, though, she writes from the perspective of another resident: the hardscrabble, heart-of-gold Etta Mae Wiggins.
Etta Mae is frustrated with her trailer-park life and her no-good family, and she has big dreams for something better. Working as the home nurse for the elderly but wealthy Howard Connard, Sr., she finally sees her chance - with her sexy curves and infectious charm, Etta Mae is determined to become his wife. Unfortunately, Connard's scheming, money-hungry son and stuck-up daughter-in-law are equally determined to make sure she doesn't. To make matters worse, Etta Mae's ex-husband Skip (her first ex that is) has shown up with a winning lottery ticket in his hand and local thugs hot on his heels. Plus, her dreamy former flame, officer Bobby Lee, keeps popping up to remind her that she's not over him yet. In the middle of all this mayhem, Etta Mae has to get that marriage license - before it's too late! A hilarious wild goose chase that takes us from the mansions of Abbotsville to the trailer park that Etta Mae calls home, this book is filled with familiar faces (including Miss Julia, who narrates the first chapter), features Ann Ross' signature wit and southern charm, and will appeal to fans of the beloved series and newcomers alike.
    Members Reviews:
    Fun read
Loved getting to know Etta Mae past. liked that Granny Wiggins had a story aldo.
Not part of the Miss Julia series!!
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
No, I wouldn't recommend this book because it isn't part of the Miss Julia series, even though the title suggests it is Book 16 in the series, I disagree. I was really disappointed in the story and the writing is not in keeping with other titles by Ann B. Ross.
Would you ever listen to anything by Ann B. Ross again?
I think I will listen to other titles in the "Miss Julia" series. I do have reservations after listening to Etta Mae's Worst Bad-Luck Day.
What three words best describe Julia Gibsons performance?
Julia Gibson gives a fine performance. I have become accustomed to the narration of Cynthia Darlow. Ms. Darlow is the narrator for all 15 titles of the Miss Julia series that I have listened to and therefore is the only voice that I associate with Etta Mae, Hazel Marie and Miss Julia.
Could you see Etta Mae's Worst Bad-Luck Day being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
Not really. This isn't really a stand alone title but it isn't part of the series, in my opinion.
    Any additional comments?
This title just didn't feel like the usual writing style of Ann B. Ross. The antics written for Miss Julia near the end of the book during the Lingerie Shower/Party were so out of character for Miss Julia that I question did Ann B. Ross write it?
    Disappointing
I love the Miss Julia books and had hopes for this one too. It was very disappointing! The story was a departure from the usual funny stories and likeable characters I am used too . The story was tacky, there, were too many sexual references and crude language . I HATED the descriptions of the party and the unfunny behavior of the women after too much drink.

When Max and Sandra Porter moved down to North Carolina, they thought they were getting a new beginning - good job, good pay, and a lovely little place in Winston-Salem. But the family that hired him to research land deals in North Carolina is not all that they seem.
And when Max discovers that his office is haunted by Marshall Drummond, PI - a ghost from the 1940s - what started as a simple research job sinks him neck-deep in a world of old mysteries and dangerous enemies. One in which ghosts, witches, curses, and spells exist. One in which something as innocent as a book can turn deadly.
Real North Carolina history mixes with fantasy magic in this pulse-pounding, paranormal-mystery series.
    Members Reviews:
Really good story, and the Author Narrated Great!
I am a big fan of Urban Fantasy books, and this one looked intriguing, so I decided to give it a shot. I am so glad i did. The main characters, Max and Sandra Porter, are moving on from some a events at his old job that lead to them needing a fresh start. Max, a college professor, is hired to do historical research in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, for a mysterious Employer. Max, glad to be able to leave Michigan and his troubles behind, starts the research, but he meets Marshall Drummond, who happens to be the ghost cursed and bound to Max's office. Marshall needs Max's help to break the curse, which was placed on him by a witch in the 40's, and just happens to be tied to Max's research. Max's wife Sandra is drawn into the mystery, especially when she reveals she can see ghosts. Not just Marshall, but all ghosts. After a series of adventures and setbacks, the mystery is slowly peeled back to reveal...well, if you want to know, you'll just have to listen to the book. It is very worth it. the characters are well rounded, with Max and Sandra both being compelling characters. Marshall is also sympathetic, but very much a product of his era, the 1940s. There is a lot of actual North Carolina history mixed in to the story, which is well blended to make the story compelling. The author does a great job of drawing you into the story, making you feel your right in the middle of the action. He also self narrates, which is always hit or miss with self narrated titles, but this one is a definite bullseye. he does a great job with the voices, making the characters really come alive and keeping the story flowing.
I would recommend this book to any fan of Mike Resnick's Stalking series of Urban Fantasy books, as well as the Nightside books and Dreden FIles.
The unwilling detective with a nose for history
Rescued from debt and unemployment and moved to North Carolina by a mysterious employer and his underlings, Max and Sandra learn many new things. The history of Winston-Salem. The ghost of PI Drummond. Danger. Got you hooked yet? A good read well performed by the author.
    Needs Moore Work
This is an interesting plot idea, but, there are too many inconsistencies.
    1. I wasn't sure if the purpose of the mystery was about the ghost, find out the identity of Max's employer or expose an identified evil in town.
    2. The characters were flat and uninteresting.
    3. Max's wife tells him that she can see ghost and has been able to see ghost forever.
    4. Max's life is threatened on more than one occasion yet he continues to investigate without a reasonable reason.
    5.

Loved the story and the performance! Jeff Abbott is one of my favorite authors and loved this story!
Wow, another great Sam Capra installment!
Fast past, action packed. This is better than the last book and great cliff hanger to leave you wanting more. Can't wait for the next one.
    Didn't finish :(
I loved adrenaline and previous books by this author but I've struggled with the last two Sam Capra books. I haven't felt connected to the ancillary characters driving the story mother are one dimensional just to drive plot. And Sams whiny "I'm out of the life routine" has worn thin. Hoping to enjoy future novels by Abbott but I think I'm done with this series.
    Disappointing
Reads like a teenage thriller with a reader that tries hard but has a voice that sounds like a teenager. It makes the book difficult to take seriously.
I struggled to the end even though I felt like giving up several times - the story tries to be a little too clever and the main character is portrayed both as an idiot and suddenly a brutal assassin. Even for fiction not a creditable character.
My first of this series and the last - from the reviews I had hoped for more!

Such a fun and engaging light mystery!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I was just hootin' and hollering through the whole book--just loved the relationship between Jessie and the Captain, and the antics is the pool hall were entertaining. The character of JEssie's mother is well placed too, although I found the reationship among Jessie and her friends a little weird since they seemed like they wouldn't have stufff in common.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Double Shot?
I couldn't get enough of Jessie's "undercover" pool games!

GUEST REVIEW FOR EARGASMS - BY KIMBERLY HOLGATE
Jessica (Jessie) Hewitt AKA Adele Nightingale's new beau, because shes to old to say boyfriend, Captain Wilson Rye needs her help apparently besides himself there's not a good pool player on the force and hes in desperate need of a shark to help solve two murders so naturally he asks his girlfriend to go undercover for him. Jessie in turn enlists the help of her best friends Karen Sembler and Candy Poppe.
The Wade on Inn is the last known whereabouts of both the victims.and after a quick makeover for Jessie, who apparently is to recognizable from all her publicity over the last murder, unfortunately to much time in the dye leaves her looking like a Munster no worries a push up bra from Candy Poppe and no one will be looking at her face not even her beau.
Most of the story takes place at the Wade on Inn with its cast of unique characters. there's a bible toting bouncer, two blue hared old lady's and Avis Sage one of Jessie's fathers old colleges to name a few. Jessie who is now using her moms name as her cover plays pool most of the time she should of just staid home though because Candy and Karen are the real investigators in this one.
We are introduced to Jessie's mother in this book. Unfortunately Adele Nightingale is still telling her story's threw out the main story and Jessie is still bemoaning about her age and now how Wilson is 5 years younger than her. And now we have to listen to her incessant jealousy over Tiffany Sass a young police officer that is working closely with Wilson.
The murderer is more obvious in this book and you can most likely guess. The book is all from Jesse's point of view. Overall not as good as the first book but still a humorously good read with behind the scenes action between Jessie and Wilson.
The book is again Narrated by Caroline Miller which I thought was a good choice.
