    great story line

    PAINFUL ENDING.
This story is very convoluted and sometimes hard to follow. Otherwise well done but just frustrating at end.
Lately it seems I do not get denouement , you need to read the whole;often tedious series. rather than a frustrating end and NEW beginning
From now on if I cant download from my local library' and feel like each book is worth owning I won't buy it on here but I will if each book speaks for its self or just leaves a good move to the next in series.
Reading the beginning and end chapters is not fulfilling.but! Reading the the text of a series is a lot better way to decide what is worth a credit.

Very political, but still great Cara Black
I love all books by Cara Black. I learn so much more about the nuances of my favorite city in the world, Paris.
Written by an American married to a Frenchman, and someone who learned to live as the French, Black provides us with an "insider's view" of what it is like to be French. I stay in Paris about 2 months a year, and have for many years, but I never fail to learn more about the city and the French from her books.
Aimee LeDuc epitomizes the spirit of the self-reliant Parisian, with some deep wounds and clouded memories. The French have all suffered.
So, as usual, it was a good listen. However, this book gets extremely political, which is a bit less interesting for me. I expect it from Gabriel Alon, but not Aimee LeDuc. I prefer her madcap mysteries. Still a great listen, though!
very entertaining. The story gets more intense.
The story starys oit a little slowly, or at least I thought so. But it develops with several twists and turns. The narration wad also quite strong, with eaach of the characters voices very distinct.

    Publisher: Brilliance Audio

Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Modern Detective
    Publisher's Summary:
When Dr. Alan Gregory's good friend Peter Arvin is found bloody and dying on the stage of a Colorado theatre, suspicion soars that he has become the second victim of a killer whose first prey was discovered amid the elaborate scenery of the road company's production of the Broadway show Miss Saigon. Alan is immediately asked to respond to two pleas for help: one from the police, who would like a psychological profile of the murderer, and one from Peter's widow, who is desperate to know the meaning of her dead husband's secrets.
As Alan struggles to cope with the complexities of his new marriage and the shattering personal consequences of his friend's murder, provocative clues lead him down a trail that winds from the Front Range of the Rockies to the casinos of the Colorado high country and finally to the grandeur outside Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
His journey takes him deep into Peter's past and inevitably toward the discovery of harrowing truths about the human heart - about the struggle for survival and the quest for forgiveness - that seem always just out of his reach, obscured by the smoke of a long-forgotten fire.

    Undistinguished, Average But Okay
I really got off on Adrienne Allen, wife of the murder victim She's a great character and both White and Hill have fun with her. She's a scene stealer. Otherwise, I listened through the book and generally enjoyed what's become a too easy villain for many writers in the genre. Still, it was a way to make gain through my pain at the gym every morning I listened. Harm's Way distracted me from the discomfort and I think I'll listen to another of Stephen White's books, especially if Dick Hill's the reader. They're a competent team.
Alan Gregory is a compelling, reluctant hero...
This is a departure from the "tough hero takes on the world" but Alan Gregory lures you in with his wit and deduction prowress... A very compelling character
    Too Much
description and not enough action. It's worth listening to but then again, someone needs to teach Dick Hill how to read women's parts so they don't all sound like lispy air heads, especially when White's female characters are anything but. The book is interesting. It's worth purchasing but I've listened to other authors that hold my attention better.

    Loved it!
A friend referred me to Josi's series and I am so glad that she did. This book was more than I expected, it was not a shallow story. The book was not filled with sex or swearing, just a very interesting story about friendship, caring, and not giving up. I hope that the rest of the books are as interesting as this one. When I really like books, I will go back in a couple years and relisten. This will go on my "to listen to again" list.
    Spoiled by the main character
I was hoping to like the first book of what looked like an interesting series and go on to read the other books, but the main character was so annoying that I don't want to see any more of her. I had a hard time believing that an adult would have to have it explained to her by her college-aged daughter that she was being unreasonable to expect the police investigating a murder to give her -- a neighbor of the murder victim -- regular updates on their progress. She expected to waltz into a lawyer's office and have the lawyer tell her all about the affairs of a client. She got all indignant about a detective asking her to hand over some documents that had belonged to the murder victim and claimed that she had given them all the evidence she had while managing to hide a business card that the murder victim had had. She seemed immature and naive for her age.
On the other hand, the mystery was interesting (though the amateur detective only figured out what had happened when the murderer confessed to her) and the narrator was good. Still, I'm not inclined to give the character another chance.
    Whispering
This book wasnt for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
    The narrator whispered. Very annoying.
How could the performance have been better?
    Another narrator that doesn't whisper
You didnt love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
I don't know. Only listened to a few chapters while straining to hear.
    A new found favorite!
Totally LOVED this book! Story and reader were great! Can't wait to read more by this author!
    Cheesy, but good.
It was a little cheesy and you can definitely tell the author is from Utah with how the main character acted. But the mystery part was enjoyable.

    Editorial Reviews:
Feisty felines take center stage in author Leann Sweeney's second installment of the Cats in Trouble series. Coffee-sipping cat lover Jillian Hart finds herself caught up in a murder investigation when a local professor's corpse is discovered along with 50 stray felines. Veteran performer Vanessa Johansson brings warmth and compassion to this story of friendship, intrigue, and adorable kitty capers. Johansson's experience voicing animated characters plays well with the quirky, light-hearted good humor of Sweeney's self-described "gentle mystery". Hart's small-town life is colored by compelling relationships with oddball characters, sure to captivate and enchant listeners.

    WHAT A WONDERFUL STORY
THIS IS SUCH A GOOD BOOK. A WONDERFUL COZY MYSTERY. AUDIBLE, THANK YOU FOR THIS NEW AUTHOR, I AM BUYING THE WHOLE SERIES AND ANYTHING ELSE SHE WRITES. VANESSA JOHANSSON DID A WONDERFUL JOB AS A NARRATOR, SHE NEVER SKIPPED A BEAT, VERY GOOD VANESSA, I WILL FOLLOW ALL YOUR NARRATIONS....YOU ARE RIGHT UP THERE WITH BARBARA ROSENBLAT, I READ ALMOST EVERYTHING SHE NARRATES. GREAT JOB, LADIES.
I Continue To Be Impressed By This Series
At first when I started this series, I didn't expect much. Just some cute stories about cats, and oh by the way, a murder mystery thrown in there, was my expectation. But no, it's actually just the opposite. Very compelling murder mystery stories that oh by the way just happen to feature cats and a cat loving woman.
I'm definitely hooked and look forward to listening to the other books in the series.
    Cozy lovers rejoice!!
Tried the book on a whim and was delighted-- a well-written story with engaging characters (including cats!) intriguing plot, and...clean language! The narrator has a distinctive style that grew on me. Thank you, Leann Sweeney!
    Get another narrator
The story was OK. Interesting plot and story line. Narrator was so grating I felt like quitting several times during the book. Her voice of Candace the police officer was so bad it made me gnash you teeth. With a better narrator story would have been more enjoyable.
    Not just for cat lovers
The idea of a series revolving around cats is a bit odd to me. However, the mystery is sound and the characters are likeable. I enjoyed this book and will listen to the next one.

    Publisher's Summary:
Rancher Mack Murphy has been buying up land in southwest Colorado, threatening those who won't sell, including Junior, the uncle of ex-sheriff Bud Shumway. Bud agrees to visit his uncle to help defuse things, never suspecting he would get caught right smack in the middle of Mack's murder. And it becomes the toughest case Bud's ever had to solve, as almost everyone is a suspect. Set in the Paradox Valley, a beautiful and remote area with a wooly Wild West history, this mystery will have you laughing, scared to death, and wondering when the mysterious Wild Man will strike again.
Add in some fake Ute Indian burials, a new-age addiction counsellor, Bud's bumbling deputy Howie, a wealthy restauranteer with a penchant for railroads, Mack's missing wife, Junior's longing to return to his hobo ways, and two young gold prospectors who are always just one step ahead of the law, and there's never a dull moment. This is the third audiobook in the Bud Shumway Mystery Series. You'll also enjoy the first, The Ghost Rock Cafe and the second, The Slickrock Cafe.
    Members Reviews:
    Found: A Good Man
Love these when I am maxed out on history, graphic forensic criminal mystery, and romance. Bud Shumway is just a great stand up kind of guy that gets the job done in the backdrop of rugged and beautiful Utah and Colorado desert back country. He is an every day hero, the kind of person you imagine your local sheriff is if you have a local sheriff. While the characters are not really complex, the plots are pretty convoluted and I don't figure out who did it in the first couple chapters. Bud is a simple man, but he is sharp, logical and determined. And in keeping with most of these having the café in the title, the menus are nostalgic, artery cloggers, and delicious. Good mystery, good plots, good food, and a "Good Man."
Books in this series are getting better as they move along.
The series and the writing are getting better as it goes along. The characters develop and deepen, and the fictional universe in the Utah desert becomes more real as it differentiates itself from the roadmap. Radium Springs seems as real as Green River. I am looking forward to the subsequent novels welcome to like and understand the main characters more.
    A SHERIFF AGAIN
No matter what, Bud finds himself solving another mystery. This one takes him away from home to his uncle's. As always a comfortable read with interesting characters.
Bud may be retired but he is still solving mysteries
I love the Bud Shumway series - they are very entertaining and yet the mystery in this book is quite the Paradox. Read it and you will agree with me!
    Always fun, never gory!
Chinle Miller manages to write mystery books that are fun to read, funny and all with no blood or gore or even foul words! Her murder mysteries twist and turn like a cat caught in a burlap bag! This is a fun read, a real page turner and it leaves you with a surprise ending and a big smile! You can't go wrong with Paradox Cafe, or any of the Bud Shumway books. Excellent!

    Publisher's Summary:
The beautiful, serene village of Molena Point, California is the type of place where people go to get away from the harsher realities of life - which is what attracted classic film star Patty Rose to buy the village inn and settle down to enjoy her golden years. But as the town gathers to celebrate and honor the beautiful, aging actress with a festival of her old films, Patty is brutally murdered - to the horror and shock of this peaceful burg.
A gentle tortoiseshell cat, Kit, has been enjoying a retreat to the animal-loving actress inn, where shes spending time with her feline friends - Dulcie and the slick tomcat sleuth Joe Grey. But her relaxation is cut short when she hears the gunshots that end Pattys life and sees her dead body sprawled on the inns front steps. She glimpses the killer racing into the parking garage and soon follows his trail.
Joe and Dulcie must now follow the naïve Kits trail and keep her from getting into serious trouble. To complicate matters, Joe discovers that Dulcie has been hiding a runaway child - one of the lucky humans that these special cats choose to talk to - who has now been kidnapped, likely by the same man who killed their famous friend. When the shocking discovery of hidden graves raises the stakes even further, the inquisitive feline trio will have to work quickly to claw out the truth and end the nightmare that has the devastated community reeling.
    Critic Reviews:
A skilled YA author, Murphy handles such sensitive issues as child endangerment and death wellEstablished fans will welcome back all their old friends, both feline and human. (Publishers Weekly)
Fans of the series will welcome this new episode, which maintains the expected suspense and investigative skills of the cats. (Booklist)
The somber plot is leavened by the authors affection for her characters and their rewarding small-town lives. (Kirkus Reviews)

An Absorbing Story - Joe Grey at his best
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This is a mystery thriller, well told by a good narrator. It's a good listen for Joe Grey fans with plenty going on, humour, tension, adventure, and at times it was very moving. There is much to absorb the reader, from the reckless adventure of tortoiseshell Kit to the hide and seek of a runaway, and the mystery of missing children.
What did you like best about this story?
It was not a start at Point A and end at Point Z mystery, several times it looks in other directions giving us pause for thought. it covers a tough subject (the murder of children) with compassion.
What does Susan Boyce bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
There is just the subtlest hint of characterisation in the narrator's voice when a character speaks. I like this, just small changes that add a touch of colour without tripping up or impeding the story.
I like Susan's 'Dulcie' she gives her the gentleness, humour and intelligence as the Dulcie in my imagination.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The end, yes I know it sounds strange, but after the tension, hope and happiness of events that have gone before, there is a quiet happiness and resolution for three small figures....
    Any additional comments?
For Joe Grey fans, this is one of the best yet, the narration is good, the story vivid and colourful.

    Members Reviews:
    Not her usual best!
Would you try another book from Ann B. Ross and/or Cynthia Darlow?
I have all of the Miss Julia books that are available on audio-the main story line seems to be a collection of recipe's this is not what I expected and I am disappointed!
What do you think your next listen will be?
I love cozy mysteries, I wish audio books more of them.
What does Cynthia Darlow bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Everything, she is a wonderful narrator and brings life to the story.
What character would you cut from Miss Julia Stirs Up Trouble?
The recipe's, not any of the characters, I wanted more of the story line.
    Any additional comments?
    Very Disappointed!
Not as good as the previous
After having read all previous 13 books in the Miss Julia series and rating them 5 stars, I was so excited about #14 coming out on audible. Cynthia Darlow's performance was once again flawless. However the story line was diluted compared with the previous books in the series. The inclusion of southern recipes in the story was not only boring, but could have been placed at the end of the book, instead of inserting them all throughout. Quite tedious. However, I will still look forward to a #15 and more adventures and mischief from Miss Julia.
Keep on writing them, Ann B. Ross.
    Just not her usual best!
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Richer story line. Was not interested in the actual recipes. Dated recipes besides.
Would you ever listen to anything by Ann B. Ross again?
yes! But not likely if this had been my first listen..
What about Cynthia Darlows performance did you like?
She is absolutely fabulous. She makes Ann Ross' books come alive.
    Any additional comments?
It's not that the scenes needed cutting it just needed a stronger, richer story line as she usually does so beautifully.
    Love Miss Julia series!
I've listened to all of the Miss Julia series and am looking for the next one. They are funny and on this one, Stirs Up Trouble, I actually made the Ritz Cracker pie! Cynthia Darlow is the perfect narrator for these books.
    I love Miss Julia
I started reading this series by pure accident. The library had nothing new and exciting on the shelves for audiobooks and I picked up the first Miss Julia book. Have been hooked ever since.
Hazel Marie needs to grow a backbone but I have thought that since book #2.

    The wrong Narrator
What would have made Death in Kashmir better?
The narrator has a plesant voice but no range. No character has a distinct voice. Men and women all sound the same which makes for a boring listen. I read M.M. Kaye's Death in mystery series and know them to be an exciting series. This narrator just put me to sleep.
What didnt you like about Shibani Ghoshs performance?
She was unable to create distinct characters. I think the best narrators are good actors who create and project a range of personalities.
    if
Let down for M M kaye lovers
Is there anything you would change about this book?
    No! Wonderful book
What other book might you compare Death in Kashmir to and why?
M M kaye's mysteries have the charm of Daphne Du Maurier and the fun of Agatha Christie
Would you be willing to try another one of Shibani Ghoshs performances?
    NO!
Was Death in Kashmir worth the listening time?
It was not,but only because the reader literally buthchered it.I asked audible to please try and get these mysteries. A death in Berlin and Zanzibar are worth a listen.I will try all they get of the wonderful M M Kaye. Her biographies would be a welcome as well. These books are meant to be read by a cultured British voice. They were read in the 90's by Virginia Mckenna to great effect. They are all about British colonialism. The heroines are British. The main characters are British not Hindi . Ms Ghosh might be fine reading a book from an Indian's perspective.
    Any additional comments?
    nough said
    Narrator to bad to continue
This book wasnt for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
I do not think anyone could enjoy this book with this narrator.
Simply put, this book is populated with 1940's English citizens, the main character is English, all the other characters are English and there is some mild 1940's style racism. However, the book is narrator by an Indian woman. Not only does this jar with the style of the book, but also feel fairly distasteful when she reads some of the aforementioned racism. Additionally, she is simply not very good, she has no noticeable change in expression and sometimes it's hard to tell when a passage ends and another starts.
I couldn't finish, I just found myself tuning out.
If youve listened to books by M. M. Kaye before, how does this one compare?
I have heard this book read by another narrator a few years ago, and I enjoyed it.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Shibani Ghosh?
    Anyone
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Death in Kashmir?
