HE DID NOT KNOW EVERY WEREWOLF IN CHICAGO

This is listed as a romance, yet? This was probably the most smartly written werewolf book I have ever read. Briggs understands wolves/dogs. Included in the story are the smells, sounds, and noticeable body movements of a canine. Anybody who owns a dog, knows that a dog's world consists of these three things even more keenly then eyesight. My dogs know my body language and pay more attention to it then any human. This is obvious in Briggs writing. I did not see this so much as a romance, although I believe it becomes more so in the series. I enjoyed it.

The beginning of the Alpha and Omega

This short story take place just prior to Cry Wolf and I think is so important to the story line. I'm so thrilled that this is now collected and in place in my iPod playlist and narrated by (**big sigh**) Holter Graham. The story and narration are excellent. It doesn't matter that it's not long - you only wish it was longer - but wait it is - it just slides right into Cry Wolf after all. If you are a fan of Patty Briggs and love the off shoot of the Mercy Thompson series about Anna and Charles, this is a MUST buy.

Finally the novella at audible

I read this wonderful story by Patricia Briggs in the On the Prowl anthology years ago. I've rarely had a short story get me so involved and invested in the characters as I was with this one. Even though I've never used my monthly credit on something as short as this, I pre-ordered it when I saw it was going to be available and read by Holter Graham. As always he does a wonderful job and I enjoyed the story just as much the second time around. This is a romantic story but still seems more of an Urban Fantasy than a Paranormal Romance to me. If your looking lots of sex this isn't for you. If you want an very interesting and charming story about the first meeting of a pair of werewolves with some background on the workings and rules of a pack or if you've listened to the other books in the series and want to know how it all began, you should enjoy it. But be prepared to want more of Anna and Charles when you've finished. I'm re-downloading the first novel in the series for a second listen as I write this review .

I love the story of how Charles and Anna met so when my book club picked Cry Wolf as our next discussion I knew I had to start at the beginning! Even though this book is very short, I think it is very important to the story. We learn so much about how the packs are ran and about this world in general just from this story. Anna and Charles are my favorite characters in the whole "Mercy World" and I think part of that is because of this novella.

Tied for Fave of Series: Audiobook Does JUSTICE!

If you could sum up Dark Desires After Dusk in three words, what would they be?

Erotic, Action-Packed, Cade.

What did you like best about this story?

CADEON! Ugh! I've ADORED him since I first read this book and every time she adds a new book, I find myself thinking, "OK...he's tied with Cade". It's so weird that he's my favorite, considering that I consider myself a Lykae {werewolf} Girl and Cade is a Demon, but damn his Good-Hearted Bad-Boyness is just so lovable and enticing. His is such a rugged seduction, so rough-around-the-edges and yet so sweet. And ROBERT PETKOFF does Cade such wonderful justice! Petkoff always does a great job with the males of the Lore, but I think he outdid himself with Cade - from the 'Sith Ifrican' accent to the way he talks to different characters, particularly the way he talks to Holly...PERFECTION!

Have you listened to any of Robert Petkoffs other performances before? How does this one compare?

I've listened to all of the IAD Audiobooks, of which Petkoff has narrated all but the first, and I think this is the BEST he's done.

CAN'T I GIVE IT 10 STARS??

This may be my favourite so far, but anyway they just keep getting better and better as KC delivers yet another powerful Immortals Dark story. Join Cadeon who's a slob of a mercenary demon Prince - but who is also soooo loveable, funny, handsome and thoughtful, and his mate Holly (a geeky math teacher with OCD) as the battles starts.

He battles his desires, his mating urges, his enemies but most of all HOLLY as the road trip from Hell is taken by the two bickering lovers. It's a fun filled, laugh out loud journey but it has it's touching, tender and sexy moments too.

Not as Good as the First in the Series

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This is one of those series that I originally started mainly because of the dark overtones that is appeared to have. When it comes to vampire lore I love the more non-traditional version, grounded in more the history than the myth - but still with the dark and mysterious feel. So far this series has proven to be just that.

Grounded in the origins of the vampire legends -- namely the Carpathian mountains and the original asserted origins of vampires in general -- this book and series does a great job of incorporating the two.

Jacque, however, isn't quite as strong a character as his brother, Mikhil. And the story line, or at least the way this one was built, doesn't help that feel. The inability of the main character to have no memory of his life, or how his fractured mind got to be that way, made it hard to really connect with him as a character.

Shay was, however, a more well rounded character than Raven (Dark Prince). She is more grounded in medicine and science -- which makes it a more interesting approach to the concept of science confronting myth and fiction.

Overall -- the story was ok -- but it became a little burdensome by the end. It just started to feel exactly like the first one -- but much more removed from the historical references -- and more anchored in the romance. But I do enjoy the darker nature of the romance, and the Gothic feel overall.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

The ending a little cliche. The vampire was one that was interesting -- and it could have been figured out if you were familiar with the story line of the first in the series. Also, there was simply a feeling that too many story threads just weren't quite pulled together.

Which character as performed by Abby Craden was your favorite?

I didn't really have a favorite in this one. Although the dark nature of Jacque is very intriguing. Her rendering of most of the characters is along a mysterious vein -- and she does a good job of capturing and entrancing the reader.

Great sequel

What did you like best about this story?

The plot continues on from the Dark Prince. The Carpathian world gets bigger and more questions are answered.

When Gregori and the prince come to help the second time. The dialogue is great.

It really made me laugh to hear the byplay between the males.

Once again this audiobook should come with disclaimers about NOT eating or drinking while listening!

As always Molly Harper brings her razor sharp wit and sense of humor to her stories. With the help of Amanda Ronconi the voices of Iris, Cal, and Gigi come blasting into life!

Since I hate reviews that give too much away as far as the plot goes, I will say that having familiar Half Moon Hollow characters making guest appearances was like coming home!

I wish Molly Harper would write more for Iris and Cal because I could see some amazing adventures with these guys!

What did you love best about The Care and Feeding of Stray Vampires?

I love Harper's writing it sounds like me and my friends hanging out if Vampires were real of course. I love the banter between her characters and all the snark.

What does Amanda Ronconi bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

Amanda Ronconi is one of my favorite narrators. She is amazing with her voice changes for each character and her line delivery is fantastic. The combination between Harper's humor and Ronconi's delivery has me laughing out loud on the train which can be a little embarrassing but worth it.

I highly recommend all of Molly Harper's books I must say and this one is right up there with the rest of them.

The best team in Audio make for another terrific adventure. Molly Harper has by far the best sense of humor and Amanda Ronconi brings it to life. This has become one of my favorites from this author. It is more detailed and descriptive than the Werewolf series (although I love them too!) with the same sarcastic sense of humor as the Naked series.

I love all her books and hope she writes many, many more while teamed with the best narrator in the business. I promise anyone with a sense of humor will love any of Molly's books. They are my favorite!

Absolutely. The story is outstanding the characters have a pulse or not but you care for them none the less. I must admit I didn't see some of the plot points coming.

This is a HOT One!

I feel like I waited for this book for years! I love Vlad and was thrilled he was getting his own story. Jeaniene Frost has done it again! I was worried that no woman would be good enough for Vlad but Leila is perfect for the old guy. She has just the right amount of angst so she won't be a pushover and a touch of innocence and vulnerability that will make her likeable.

This book has the same successful recipe that all of Ms. Frost's books have that makes it a lovely blend of romance and urban fantasy, seasoned with enough steamy scenes and gory battles to keep me mesmerized.

A lot of people are complaining about the end but I liked the conclusion. My only issue is that the book is way to short and that the wait will be excruciating.

Tavia Gilbert performs flawlessly and keeps the accents of so many characters consistent and believable. She has such emotion while she reads I bet the sound crew was blushing during some scenes.

OH my, Vlad was worth the wait!

I have been waiting for this book to come out. I have loved all the Cat and Bones books as well as the other characters stories so I knew Vlad's story would be good. Frost did not disappoint. I think this series could become as good as Cat and Bones series. I definitely will look forward to seeing how Vlad's romance will progress. He needs a good woman and I think these two will create a good series.

Tavia Gilbert is one of my favorite narrators and I was so glad to see her continue with this new series. It is nice to keep the same narrator since you are used to the voices she has created for the characters.

HOT, EXCITING and Left you wanting more, more, more. The only bad part is the wait for the next book. Totally credit worthy. I do recommend you start at the beginning of the Cat and Bones Series so you can get to know all the characters, including Vlad.

I should have skipped this installment

For the second BDB installment in a row I found myself struggling to connect with the couple thats supposedly at the center of this story. I enjoyed following Tohr on his road to recovery after losing his mate but NoOnes victim-like demeanor and inability to move on without a mans help just didnt sit right with me. I also found the chemistry between the two to be only lukewarm at best; quantity is not a good substitute for quality. Thank goodness for Xhex and JM otherwise I think this book would have been a total flop for me.

I started this novel thinking that a reasonable amount of time had passed since Welsies death so Tohr moving on made sense. He lost the love of his life and I thought that Ward did a good job of not belittling his heartbreak. However, once NoOne was introduced as a possible love interest the brothers attitude did a complete 180 and not for the better. Tohr came off as a user who was willing to throw anyone under the bus in an attempt to save his mate from the Fade. Unfortunately for NoOne, she was easy prey because of her past and went along with Tohrments ridiculous tirade.

One of my main pet peeves about this series is the weak female characters and NoOne is the most spineless one to date. I understand that shes had a tough go at it but youd think shed have learned to cope after 200 years. Im sorry but if Ive learned one thing in my 30 odd years on this Earth its that you cant rely on anyone but yourself. Yes its great to have family and a support system but at the end of the day the only person who can initiate change is you. Funny that I know this but that a centuries old vampire hasnt figured it out No, instead she needs a man to save her. Puhlease! Plus, why didnt anyone else in the house step in or at least try to befriend her? In previous books when a character gets stuck on a destructive path the brotherhood takes action. I wasnt a big fan of the mid-story name change either.

Molly Harper Does It Again! (Light Spoilers)

Ever since I finished "Nice Girls Don't Live Forever" I've been waiting patiently for this book to come out. I got it the day it was released. And once again Ms. Harper did not disappoint me. I've said it in every review of one of her books and I'll say it again, "I love Molly Harper's books!". She is so clever and witty and her character development from book to book is fantastic. I've come to view these characters as almost family and hate it when I hear that music at the end......

Harper starts each book and chapter with a piece of advice from a fictitious paranormal "guide book". In this book it is "Siring for the Stupid: A Beginner's Guide To Raising Newborn Vampires". It sets the tone for the book as well as each chapter, depending on the advice given in each blurb. From book to book, it still hasn't gotten old; it still "works"'. This story goes along pretty much the same way as the other books in the series, with Jane and her friends trying to solve a mystery or sometimes several mysteries; all the while trying to avoid being killed in some gruesome manner and/or avoid entanglements with Jane's Grandma Ruthie, a fate almost worse than death.

In this latest installment of the "Nice Girls" vamp series, Jane is now the "sire", having turned an old family friend into a vampire after he's accidentally hit by a car. It is now Jane's responsibility to see that Jamie, a gorgeous teenager whom she babysat as a child, learns how to be a decent vampire and doesn't go on a random killing spree through Half Moon Hollow. Added to this, someone is trying to kill her fiance, Gabriel. And if all of that weren't enough, horror of horrors, they're also trying to plan a wedding.

Jane Jameson is such a great character. I love her snarky, sarcastic attitude and the way she seems to attract trouble. I've always enjoyed watching the underdog get ahead and, for a heroine (and a vampire, no less), she surely is an underdog from the word go.

A fun listen...

I really think that Amanda Ronconi could make the phone book entertaining. I don't think the book would have been as fun to read on my own as it was to listen to her read to me. She really is fantastic and so very appropriate for this genre.

The story had a lot of potential and kept me entertained. Certain characters could have been developed more and the rules for magic in her world established better. The book seemed a bit rushed at times and I would have been happy to listen to a longer version with more details.

I didn't laugh aloud as often as I do with Molly Harper's books (yes, they are similar as other reviewers have stated), but I did laugh and chuckle and grin a lot. I would definitely read other material by Lucy March, especially if narrated by Ronconi.

I really hope this turns into a series...

Would you consider the audio edition of A Little Night Magic to be better than the print version?

I prefer both... first time reading on my own but then having Amanda Ronconi breathe a new life into the story is great.

What was one of the most memorable moments of A Little Night Magic?

I love the Saturday night confessionals... reminds me of times with a group of my girlfriends who I do not see nearly enough anymore... will have to see up a Margarita night myself...

What does Amanda Ronconi bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

I loved her narration of Molly Harper's books so much I got this one just because she was the narrator. I found this story just as entertaining mainly because of Amanda Ronconi and the life she gives to the characters. Sometimes when a narrator does multiple voices for multiple characters it just doensn't quite work. Not so with Amanda Ronconi.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

If you like the Molly Harper books I believe you would be pleased with this author as well. Will have to try more books by this author. There was enough of funny to make me laugh, enough plot to keep me interested, and characters I enjoyed.

Fan-girling it up over the Enemy of Old

The hype vis-à-vis LOTHAIREs story has been gradually building with every IMMORTALS AFTER DARK installment, and albeit three years later, I now understand why all of my fellow bloggers were fan-girling it up over the Enemy of Old. Most authors hold back when developing their anti-heroes because theres a thin line between Bad Boy and a-hole, but not Kresley Cole, she went full-on bastard, and I absolutely loved her for it!

Every addition to this series brings with it its own romantic flavour, and none of them have been repeats which after eleven novels is gosh darned impressive. The plot threads of all that has come before continue to intermingle in startling ways, and characters reach new levels of growth even though their tale has already been, or has yet to be told. The century long feud between the Black King and the White Queen left me chomping at the bit for more, and I hope that Thad gets his own title because well, listen to a sound clip, and youll get it.

I liked that Cole dedicated several chapters to fleshing out Lothaires history; it painted a clear picture of his depravity, and the unbreakable vows that bind him. Daciano is Evil with a capital E, and I dont in any way approve of his treatment of Ellie, but when cruelty has always been a part of your life, happiness seems like a pipe dream. Its funny how the mate you want, and the one you need can be two worlds apart; Elizabeths stubbornness, trailer park ways, and blood is thicker than water views on family made her the perfect for Leo.

The narrators mountain twang demonstrated for the umpteenth time that even the most far-out POV is akin to childs play when left in his capable hands. Robert Petkoffs transitions between Russian immortal royalty, and Appalachian hillbilly had me sweating bullets one moment, and hollering with redneck sisterhood the next.

Molly Harper can't write fast enough for me!!!!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

ABSOLUTLY!!! Molly Harper always brings snarky, sarcastic, witty fun to her books and I KNOW before I even plug it in that I am in for a side holding, laugh out loud good time. I learned early on to NEVER eat or drink while listening to Molly Harper/Amanda Ronconi because there is a very good chance I would be snorting it out of my nose because I am laughing so hard.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I LOVE Miranda. She is a hoot. She tries so hard in life to make things work out for herself but always runs head first into trouble.

Have you listened to any of Amanda Ronconis other performances before? How does this one compare?

YES!! I love Amanda Ronconi, and not just for her work with Molly Harper but all the books she has narrated in the genres that I read. Also if I see Amanda has read for an author I have never read before, I will check out the authors work. Amanda's always great.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes I did. I had the good laugh I have been needing for a long time. Driving Mr. Dead will be on my MP3 for a while so I can have it on hand when I need to laugh.

Any additional comments?

I believe that the wrong author/narrator can make or break a book/series. Molly and Amanda ALWAYS make a great team. If Amanda wasn't reading for Molly, I think I would just buy the print and not the audio because no one would compare to Amanda Ronconi and I will buy (in one form or another) ANYTHING Molly Harper writes!

Hilarious!

I would highly recommend listening to this in a private area...because people are going to think you're nuts when you snort and giggle for five hours straight.

And just to be safe, hit pause before you take a big swig of diet soda. Trust me on this.

I've read everything Molly Harper, she's one of only two authors I watch release dates for. I don't know how she manages to keep the humor going non-stop, or to come up with situations like, well, I'm not going to spoil it for you, just read it.

The narrator is perfect. If I could give this book more stars, I would. Fantastic!

Harper & Ronconi = Perfection

Another great book by Harper. Has some characters in the book from the "Jane Jameson" series. I would recommend reading that series before moving on to any other of Harper's books.
