    Title: Seize the Night
    Subtitle: A Dark-Hunter Novel
    Author: Sherrilyn Kenyon
    Narrator: Fred Berman
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 9 hrs and 51 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 08-16-10
    Publisher: Macmillan Audio
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 1202 votes
    Genres: Romance, Fantasy
    Publisher's Summary:
Valerius isn't a popular Dark-Hunter - he's a Roman, which means that the largely Greek Hunters have a major grudge against him and his civilization for superceding them. To make things worse, he's very conscious of his aristocratic background and breeding. So it serves him right when he runs into Tabitha Devereaux. She's sassy, sexy, and completely unwilling to take him seriously. (Not to mention that she's the twin sister of the wife of former Dark-Hunter Kyrian-Val's mortal enemy.) What Tabitha does take seriously is hunting and killing vampires -and soon she and Val have to grapple with the deadliest of all Daimons - one who's managed to come back from the dead, and one who holds a serious grudge against both of them. To win against evil, Val will have to loosen up, learn to trust, and put everything on the line to protect a man he hates and a woman who drives him nuts.

    FINALLY !!!
I absolutely LOVE this series and this book puts SO SO many things in order. You get bit and pieces through Ash's book but unless you have read this one you don't "get it all". Thank you for getting this book!! If you have all the other you MUST get this one too.
One of the best of the series
I've listened to most of the series on audible. This is by far my favorite of the series. I even like it more than Acheron. There have been a few misses in the series IMHO, but this one is a hit. Val is my favorite Dark Hunter now, surpassing Acheron and Vane. If you are a fan of the series you will love this book. If you are not familiar with the series I would suggest that you start with an earily book, as this book does not give as much of the backstory on the Dark Hunters as some of the other books do. When I started the series, I actually started with book 4, (Zarek's story) not realizing it was a series and skipped around from there, eventually going back and reading the first three books. It's a great series with plenty of offerings to keep you listening happily for a long time.
    Loved it!
I loved this audio book and look forward to listening/reading anything by Sherrilyn Kenyon. Her characters are wonderful, her writing style is fast paced and witty.
    One of my favorite series
This series is really a continuing saga. Start with the 1st book to keep up with the characters and plot lines. Not just your normal vampire romance. Book is one of my favorites in the series along Zarek's and Sins. Hope they record all the rest soon.
    Best one yet!!!!
Lets cut to the point, while i was reading this book i was thinking "WHAT!!!! These kind of things happen in the end of a series not here".. I was shocked of what was happening here, and honestly i can say that so far this book is the best in this awesome series.
Let me give you a small hint, a new dark hunter joins the club here.
    Enjoy!

    Publisher's Summary:
Bride McTierney has had it with men. They're cheap, self-centered, and never love her for who she is. But though she prides herself on being independent, deep down, she still yearns for a knight in shining armor. She just never expected her knight in shining armor to have a shiny coat of fur.
Deadly and tortured, Vane Kattalakis isn't what he seems. Most women lament that their boyfriends are dogs. In Bride's case, hers is a wolf. A Were-Hunter wolf. Wanted dead by his enemies, Vane isn't looking for a mate. But the Fates have marked Bride as his. Now he has three weeks to either convince Bride that the supernatural is real or he will spend the rest of his life neutered - something no self-respecting wolf can accept. But how does a wolf convince a human to trust him with her life when his enemies are out to end his? In the world of the Were-Hunters, it really is dog-eat-dog. And only one alpha male can win.
    Critic Reviews:
"More character driven than her previous Dark-Hunter novels, Kenyon's latest is a nice change of pace yet still chock-full of the quirky humor, complex fantasy, and searing passion that her readers love. This book's success, however, appropriately lies with Bride and Vane. It's been said of Kenyon that she knows men, but she really knows women and all our secret fears and hidden desires." (

Was expecting fluff and got substance! Good story.
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
    Yes. Interesting and fun.
What did you like best about this story?
The story felt real. Complex characterization.
Which character as performed by Fred Berman was your favorite?
I had to like Furry. Her veterinarian father was intriguing. Snotty sister a close third. Come to think of it many of the secondary characters were interesting.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It was sweet, straightforward and endearing. I'm not a sentimentalist and often roll my eyes over sappy story lines.
    Any additional comments?
My first book by this author. Bought it on sale because it looked light and fun. it was that but more. It's a "feel good" book without being sugary or simplistic. Story had a few twists and turns. Characters were developed and dimensional. Delivered a solid good story that was well written. Don't overlook this one if you like a straightforward story that does not leave you feeling depressed or icky. The whole fantasy supernatural thing supported the plot and was not the main feature. It was a simple and charming love story with a bit of adventure and intrigue tossed in. Really good for driving or doing chores. I liked it and you don't need to enjoy this genre to find the story charming.
    Good Boy!
What made the experience of listening to Night Play the most enjoyable?
I can't stress enough how good a job Fred Berman does reading these books. I especially love the way he reads Simi and Ash and I hope to hear from them in every book. He does a great job bringing every character to life.
What did you like best about this story?
I really enjoyed the fact that this novel involved a wolf instead of a dark hunter in the lead role. I also enjoyed how the author found another non-typical but completely unique female lead.

Take one half-human/half-vampire female with serious anger and parental issues, add in a sexy ancient vampire with his own agenda, and you have the makings for a truly combustible series. Sign me up for the sequel! (Romantic Times)

    Surprised! SPECTACULAR AND SEXY!
Halfway to the Grave is delicious! The Best of the Genre! 10 stars! A+
I am 30 and I write this review for anyone who might think this is young adult nonsense:
Personal Disclaimer: Im new to the genre. I snubbed my nose to it bc of the pop culture craze of Twilight, and a strict loyalty to the Vampire world of Ann Rice. Somehow, I stumbled into the paranormal/time travel genre with Karen 's Fever series, and then finally read Outlander. After dabbling in a few JD Ward books, "The Night Huntress" series was recommended to me and I downloaded this book. I was judgmental of the cover and the silly name, and it just sat in my audible library for months. After listening to a heavy depressing book, I needed a break and put this on...
I LOVE this book. I'm addicted and in love with these characters. Bones is surprisingly funny and charming but very different from the smoldering alpha males in every other romance novel I've read. Cat is my favorite heroine since Scarlet O'hara! This book is so different from any other "vampire" or paranormal book I've ever read. It's funny, sexy, and completely engaging.
But to my amazement, it also contains one of the hottest love scenes ever written, not because of any graphic sex, but because of the chemistry and tenderness of the two characters. I was surprised by how sexy this book was. And the author doesn't play the same old games of delaying the "good parts" till the end, which is frustrating and gets old pretty quick! (I waited 5 books for Moning's characters to finally hook up..

    Zarek's point of view:
"Dark-Hunter: a soulless guardian who stands between mankind and those who would see mankind destroyed. Yeah, right. The only part of that Code of Honor I got was eternity and solitude.
"Insanity: A condition many say I suffer from after being alone for so long. But I don't suffer from my insanity - I enjoy every minute of it.
"Trust: I can't trust anyone...not even myself. The only thing I trust in is my ability to do the wrong thing in any situation and to hurt anyone who gets in my way.
"Truth: I endured a lifetime as a Roman slave, and 900 years as an exiled Dark-Hunter. Now I'm tired of enduring. I want the truth about what happened the night I was exiled - I have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
"Astrid (Greek, meaning star): An exceptional woman who can see straight to the truth. Brave and strong, she is a point of light in the darkness. She touches me and I tremble. She smiles and my cold heart shatters.
"Zarek: They say even the most damned man can be forgiven. I never believed that until the night Astrid opened her door to me and made this feral beast want to be human again. Made me want to love and be loved. But how can an ex-slave whose soul is owned by a Greek goddess ever dream of touching, let alone holding, a fiery star?"

    Yeah!! Zarek on Audible!!!!
This was my favorite Dark-Hunter book.....well besides ACHERON!! Zarek's story was moving and well.......I am not going to give the story away by saying anything about the plot. The reader, Fred Berman was really good. His voice, to me, is like Holter Graham's, is easy to listen to and I love that he gave Zarek the accent.I am a big fan of Sherrilyn Kenyon and I hope to see more of her book in the audio format on Audible. She is one of my "Escape" authors. You pretty much know there will be a happily ever after. It's the journey to that point that is the ride!!
    ZAREK my poor lost Zarek
Zarek's book has finally come to audible with a bang if you must know my opinion. In the world of Sherilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter's I have enjoyed almost all of the stories, but Zarek's beyond all touched my heart and tore at me in ways that made me cry like a hurt child with Zarek. He introduced in another of the books Talon's story, but we are given a view that doesn't share much.
In this we are given the pure torment Zarek faces on a day by day basis his life has been a series of tortures and you feel them as no other.
I feel that this is one if not the best book in the series. The last few have left a lot to be desired in the fact that they have fallen from Dark Hunter universe. This was still true Dark Hunter at it's best. Zarek is flawed and tormented but his anger has a point he even says it at one point you can only a beat a dog so many times. He's vicious but with purpose we come to know so much of what made him what he is. And I hope Audible gets Valerius story next because it has Zarek in it and I loved it too. Personally, out of the entire series the first 9 or 10 books may be my faves.

Maybe it was the Shenanigans gift certificate that put her over the edge. When children's librarian and self-professed nice girl Jane Jameson is fired by her beastly boss and handed $25 in potato skins instead of a severance check, she goes on a bender that's sure to become Half Moon Hollow legend. On her way home, she's mistaken for a deer, shot, and left for dead. And thanks to the mysterious stranger she met while chugging neon-colored cocktails, she wakes up with a decidedly unladylike thirst for blood.
Jane is now the latest recipient of a gift basket from the Newly Undead Welcoming Committee, and her life-after-lifestyle is taking some getting used to. Her recently deceased favorite aunt is now her ghostly roommate. She has to fake breathing and endure daytime hours to avoid coming out of the coffin to her family. She's forced to forgo her favorite down-home Southern cooking for bags of O negative. Her relationship with her sexy, mercurial vampire sire keeps running hot and cold. And if all that wasn't enough, it looks like someone in Half Moon Hollow is trying to frame her for a series of vampire murders. What's a nice undead girl to do?

    Laugh-out Loud Funny
I don't usually write reviews, and I am NOT a fan of the vampire romance genre at all! But I saw that other people thought this was funny, and felt like a laugh but I was prepared to doubt. Don't hesitate, truly, Molly Harper has such a funny turn of phrase, very dry wit, and she's written a smart incisive character (no pun intended) who is just like the friend we all want. Expect to laugh, well worth your credit :)
Refreshing take on the Paranormal Genre
A few years ago if any one had told me i would be reading this sort of book i would have laughed at them.
It started when I found due to health reasons I could not read the fine print most of my beloved books had, so 10 years ago i started on audio books Fantasy and SCI-FI.
Eventually I ran out of the Audio books I wanted to read so I started reading books like True Blood, moved to Feehand and Lynsay Sands and then found this Gem.
This book is a very refreshing take on the Vampire Paranormal Books. I like the humorous take this book takes. It is wonderful romp from beginning to end.
Jane Jameson is a 27 year old librarian who becomes a Vampire because it was either that or die. I found Molly Harper Whites take on a young woman who has her own personal issues come to grips with her new life style as Vampire refreshing.
This is the sort of book you pick up and find that you are suddenly reading the last few words on the last page. It's one of those sort of books.
If you like this Paranormal Fantasy genre then you will love this book.
I cant wait to listen to the next one.
    What a HOOT!!!!!!!
When I read the blurb for this book I was captured hook, line and sinker!!I listen to a lot of books while my hubby plays his video games and this book had me laughing out loud and the hubby wanted to know what was up with me.

Nothing sucks the romance out of world travel like a boyfriend who may or may not have broken up with you in a hotel room in Brussels. Step One: Get her newly renovated occult bookstore off the ground. Step Two: Support her best friend, Zeb, and his werewolf bride as they prepare for the impending birth of their baby...or litter. Great rap-up!
    For the third book
In the third book, the storyline is focused on the mysterious women Jane's lover Gabriel hides from her for own good and the new book store that she inherited. She also finally confronts her sister in a scene that is really touching and funny at the same time. The series is not adventurous nor exciting like the books I usually prefer, but gives me a very heart warming giggly fun (and it's about vampires!) while listening to it. I also though the narrator gave a wonderful performance throughout the series. A nice ending to a fun series!
    For the whole series
I liked the premise of the first book a lot. A small town librarian getting shot accidentally and turning into the vampire and then getting mixed up with murder and mayhem. I think the Jane Jamison books are essentially cozy mystery with a vampire twist. It doesn't have the usual fight against the races, apocalyptic prophecy nor the dark outlook other paranormal series often have.
The series is really really funny, especially the snarky, quarky and snide comments Jane makes. Some might compare the series to the Betsy series, but IMHO there is a BIG difference. I actually like the main character! Sometimes I wish she wasn't so nice, but I suppose in real family feud people do have love/hate relationship with loved ones just like her and try desperately hard not to ruin what relationship they have. So if you like paranormal stuff but not really into violence, blood, or doomesday story, this is a great series!
Harper & Ronconi make great audiobooks together!
I dont usually pace myself whenever I read series, Im more of a back-to-back kind of girl, but the Molly Harper / Amanda Ronconi duo deserves to be savoured because they make outstanding audiobooks together. NICE GIRLS DONT LIVE FOREVER is a winning amalgamation of smart aleck humour, three dimensional characters, snappy writing, and excellent narration. The story is more action-packed than usual, and I loved the werewolf tidbits that are scattered throughout this book.

Once a devoted children's librarian, Jane Jameson now works at a rundown occult bookstore. Once a regular gal, she's now a vampire. And instead of a bride, she's an eternal bridesmaid -- which leads her to question where exactly her relationship with her irresistibly sexy sire, Gabriel, is headed. Mercurial, enigmatic, apparently commitment-phobic vampires are nothing if not hard to read. While Jane is trying to master undead dating, she is also donning the ugliest bridesmaid's dress in history at her best friend Zeb's Titanic-themed wedding. Between a freaked-out groom-to-be, his hostile werewolf in-laws, and Zeb's mother, hell-bent on seeing Jane walk the aisle with Zeb, Jane's got the feeling she's just rearranging the proverbial deck chairs.
Meanwhile, Half Moon Hollow's own Black Widow, Jane's Grandma Ruthie, has met her match in her latest fiance. He smells like bad cheese and has a suspicious history of dead spouses. But Jane's biting her tongue. After all, would a nice girl really think she has a future with a vampire?

    Great series!
If you want a hot and steamy romance, this isn't the book for you. However, it's absolutely hilarious! I laughed out loud multiple times while listening to this book. Couldn't wait to start the next one and bought the next two immediately. My only criticism is that some of the character voices that the narrator used were annoying.
    Very entertaining!!!
I must say that ordering these books by Molly Harper White was a laughable choice. I laughed so hard at the one liners and found the books to be so entertaining. I will keep an eye out for more by this talented author!!!
The best of both worlds: Jane Jameson & werewolves
Worried about turning into bride-zilla? Nothing will make you feel better about your own wedding planning mishaps than reading about Jolenes upcoming werewolf nuptials. Between her familys questionable traditions, a future mother-in-law from hell and a theme thats centered on a sinking ship; theres no shortage of drama in Nice Girls Dont Date Dead Men. Molly Harpers unique sense of humour never fails to bring a smile to my face and even a few laugh-out-low moments but when her story is narrated by Amanda Ronconi the whole experience becomes doubly enjoyable. In this installment we get the best of both worlds: Jane Jameson AND werewolves!
Im currently in the midst of planning my own big day so I absolutely loved reading about Jolenes werewolf wedding disasters. Shes a fictional character so I didnt feel bad about laughing at and even feeling better because of her misfortunes. There are several things that I am dreading about this whole getting married process but I was comforted by the knowledge that no matter how bad it gets, itll never be this bad. The wedding cake snafu was hilarious and I almost started crying from laughing so hard when the new couple had their first dance to Celine Dion.
One of my favourite characters in this series has to be Dick Cheney; every time hes in a scene I just know that within no time Ill be trying to suppress an uncontrollable case of the giggles. We uncover what his secret vampire power is and its so blatantly obvious yet ridiculously preposterous at the same time. I was as shocked as Jane was to learn the truth but couldnt resist doing a quick *facepalm* over having missed the clues.

    Members Reviews:
Impassioned, dramatic and delivers a great story
Butch has been one of my favorite characters of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series since he was introduced. What attracted me the most about him was the fact that he is the only human out of the bunch and yet he still manages to hold his own in the vampire world. This alone makes him the most badass of them all in my opinion! His story is different from those of the brothers in many respects but its just as riveting and heartbreaking. Plus, its about Marissa too whos a phenomenal character in her own right. Lover Revealed will make you weep, seethe with anger and then weep some more. Its a killer ride but the ending makes it all worth while.
Lover Awakened is a hard act to follow but Ward still manages to deliver a solid fourth installment. I particularly enjoyed the friendship between V and Butch in Lover Revealed. Its not easy to convey brotherly love without having their manhood take a slight hit but this book succeeded. The level of devotion and honesty that comes through in this novel is breath taking. The characters try to play it down with some manly joking which made the emotional elements both moving and funny at the same time. Butch puts up a strong front but on the inside hes really quite vulnerable. I liked reading about his personal conflicts and his struggle to find a place to belong within the brotherhood.
Marissa is just as troubled as Butch but because shes a female her emotions are always close to the surface and sometimes make her appear weak. I found that she grew a lot as a character in this book. She finally takes charge of her life and even pulls a few ballsy moves that really impressed me. Oh, and she finally gets laid! Anyone whos capable of remaining a virgin for over three centuries deserves some credit. As a result, in true Black Dagger Brotherhood fashion, Lover Revealed is as scorching hot as its predecessors. Needless to say that after Marissa discovers what all the fuss is about she is hooked! The fact that shes getting it on with Butch doesnt hurt either.
This was my first audio book experience with a male narrator. It definitely took some getting used to and I found the female dialogue a little comical at times but overall Frangione does an excellent job. He has a great tone and accurately portrays the badass attitude thats prevalent throughout this series. Jim also reads the action-y chapters with enthusiasm and the sex scenes with heat.
The ending sort of wraps up Butchs humanity problem with a nice, neat bow but I think that it was fitting and that he deserves his happily ever after just as much as any of the brothers do. Lover Revealed is impassioned, dramatic and delivers a great story.

    GREAT Read
What made the experience of listening to Guilty Pleasures the most enjoyable?
The story moved along. I listened to Danse Macabre first. I had never ever listened to this author or even liked this type of books or movies(hate scary movies) I found myself laughing like a mad woman in my garage after l arriving home and listened to the first CD.I was hooked. I started searching for the other books online to find out how Anita got involved with a vamp.(Gulity pleasures) I have now check out, downloaded or purchased several of the books in the series.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Guilty Pleasures?
Anita running out of the circus being chased and Jean Claude giving Anita the second mark(eyes)
Which character as performed by Kimberly Alexis was your favorite?
    Anita
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    No..
    Any additional comments?
Love the series so far. Not to cool on all the sex Anita has, but she kick's butt and I hope learns to control the adure thing I hope Ms Hamilton stays clear of under aged sexual involment with Anita. The 16 yr old boy was a bit over the line.
    Narration is just plain awful!!!
Let me first say, that I love the Anita Blake series as a whole. Though this book is not my favorite book in the series, it's still a really good read. It is, however, the worst audiobook in the series so far.
I completely dislike the narrator change(I can't come up with stronge enough words). She sounds way to macho to be the sexy necromancer, we've always known. She completely ruins Jean Claude's accent. I'm not sure if I want to laugh or cry, because she has ruined something that I hold dear to me.
There also is this awful menacing music that plays randomly through out some scenes. It's really annoying and distracting.
I was happy when I found out that they were releasing the early Anita books in audio format, but this has been a massive let down. I'm pretty sure this will be my last Anita Blake audiobook purchase with this narrator change. Save your credits, but buy the book. You'll be happy you did!
Book 1 in the Anita Blake series
I so like Kimberly Alexis narrtion better than Cynthia Hollway in the later books, but oh well, a good series, 18 in all, it starts off slow, but ends with a bang...keep listening, their worth it...
    I Disagree!!!!
I love, love, love the new narrator. Jean-Claude has an actual French accent. Hurrah!!! And as you go on to the other three older books with this narrator, Richard doesn't sound like a cranky old man. Can't wait till the rest of the older books are on Audible. Did I mention how much I love the new narrator??
    Read this one yourself
I love the Anita Blake series and have read all the books more than once but I could not listen to this version. I don't like the narrator or the way the narration is staged. I would advise reading these the old fashioned way.

Love the book, but hate the Sound Effects!
One of my favorite series (at least the first ten books), but the sound effects are way off and come up at odd times and seem to be destracting rather than add to the story. The narrator is okay, not my favorite, but not horrible either.
It took a book and a half buuuuut..
    Any additional comments?
But I came around to this narrator.
I started reading the Anita Blake series in high school. As the series progressed, as some of you know, I fell out of love and into contempt with our little heroine. But I love the world that Hamilton wrote around Anita. Now if only I hadn't started feeling as if I were reading a fanfiction-style story about the author herself she had somehow conned people into publishing and buying. But, as I've gotten into driving trucks, there was more time than I knew what to do with to keep myself awake and interested while driving through mountains and plains were radio signals are.. lacking. So, after some 200-some-odd hours of the current Game of Thrones series, I decided to give this one another chance.
It took me a while to get used to Alexis. When I read Anita, I read her in a lower tone.. And angrier. Always angry. The amount of sarcasm that comes through, as mentioned in other reviews, is a little daunting. In my head, Anita had held more of a droll tone as opposed to teenager-worthy sarcasm, so at the time it didn't translate as much as it does with someone reading it to me. Though, having been a teenager myself when I began reading her, I'm not sure it would have mattered much in the beginning. The story itself is interesting. Some of the interactions between characters lead me back to the whole 'Mary Sue' problem, but Alexis' tone kept me interested. There is a fair amount of replay--or of the exact same words and phrases to reintroduce characters we met in Guilty Pleasures. Anyway, as of this book, it all seems like a bunch of little things coming together to annoy me and distract me from the story itself. That and trying to forget the direction I remember the series is heading in.
I would recommend this book, and the one before it. 'Preternatural' things have always been interesting to me, and she writes them all out, some in new ways and, to an extent, in depth with powers and histories and ancient vampires acting like spoiled brats. I would tell anyone to give this series a chance. You might fall in love with it like I did. And maybe you won't be so bothered about what's to come. I might not either as I listen to them again. Alexis does give me a complete separate perspective about Anita's challenges with the way she reads. I'm not sure if that's normal.. If you've read the series and aren't sure about spending the credit, do it.
