    Critic Reviews:
"Narrator Fred Berman tackles a massive cast, multiple kingdoms, high intrigue, and ever growing stakes in this thrilling fantasy. It all makes for a multifaceted listen... Berman's deft characterizations keep listeners attuned to world of each individual. His pacing moves the story along swiftly, and he keeps characters vivid through accents and attention to their complex, often conflicting emotions." (AudioFile)

    love it!!!
There are loads of twists and turns, and the story is not predictable. But I highly suggest you read these in order!!
Best Falling Kingdoms book so far!
This series just keeps getting more interesting. The characterizations are great. Story line never loses interest. The narrator was quite good at the different voices, however not as much difference in the women's voices, which may be because the narrator is male.
    Fantastic Series
What a great sequel to book 3 and set up to book 5. Frozen Tides is the most emotionally satisfying of the series. Every book in a standout series should deliver a sense of purpose & closure to the reader while expanding upon the plot & mystery for future books. Rhodes is very effective in this & in wielding an intriguing & complicated storyline in her Falling Kingdom series. Fred Burman delivers the most fantastic audio-visual performance that truly gives life to the characters & emotional connection to the reader. Both author & narrator are on my top 10 list.
    the best so far
this book was amazing! the plot just gets better every page. love each characters. I don't want to spoiler for anybody who as not read it. but it's a must read. I give it a full five stars
    Fantastic all around
LOVED the story of course. Couldn't stop listening and I didn't want it to be over!
And I cannot say enough about Fred Berman the narrator! I think he is fantastic. By far my favorite narrator so far out of the many many books I have listened to!

    Superb!
This should be the second book in the novel series, but it does't show up as such in Audibles list.
It captures events after The Last Wish and before Blood of Elves.
Otherwise it's a fantastic story and an amazing performance by Peter Kenny.
    Fantastic book and narrator
I just love the Witcher series so much, it's very fun to follow Geralt's adventures in the world Andrzej has created. And Peter Kenny was an amazing narrator, gave every character a soul and unique voice which made the whole listening experience better.
i read the book and i wanted to revisit it.
i just didn't like how the reader tried to make "girlish"/"womanish" voices, but the male voices were really nice, and his voice in general soothing.
    Amazing story
As usual Peter Kenny, does an amazing job bringing then character s to live, I'm loving this series as I love the games
    Simply put, excellent.
superb interpretation and stories. you just have to love Peter Keny. he brings life to every character.

    excellent
the story was excellent, the mixture of intrigue, horror, and just enough love story made for a great story, read by an amazingly talented narrator. I've listened to this story a few times now and love it every time.
    Is it worth it?
This book is written very well, it feels weird at first but it becomes more natural the longer you listen. The story line is great and full of twists and turns, can't wait to listen to the next book.
Like the tabletop RPG Adventure I always wanted.
I am a Pathfinders tabletop gamer and thoroughly enjoyed this book. one of the things I enjoyed about it is that someone who was not at all familiar with the Pathfinder system would enjoy the story as a story. While at the same time a gamer like me sense Dave Gross' underlying understanding of the elements of the Pathfinder system and their inclusion in this Tale.
it was wonderfully written and wonderfully narrated. I thoroughly enjoyable book on all levels
Great start to a great series!
Where does Prince of Wolves rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
I think that the Prince of Wolves stands out as one of the better fantasy audiobooks I have listened to
What was one of the most memorable moments of Prince of Wolves?
The atmosphere of the country they were in plus the tension caused by the separation of the two main characters really drove the story.
Have you listened to any of Paul Boehmers other performances before? How does this one compare?
This is the first of his books I have listened to but on the strength of it I picked up the second in this series.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It was a solid well paced story, the two main characters have a good relationship that made me laugh a few times.
    Any additional comments?
Cant wait to finish the second book in this series!
    Great adventure.
Vivid, involving mystery told in an interesting way. Stands alone as a great fantasy novel.

    Mixed bag
It's sort of hard to judge the writing, which - aside from needing some serious editing - seems pretty good.
The narration is another story. Read at break-neck speed, with little differentiation between the main characters (I know it's got to be hard, three cousins and their three mothers, but still, that's your job). Some line readings are just so off it's painful - and worse, certain words are constantly mispronounced (vehemently is not read as vee-HEM-ently, e.g.). Also, the three cousins are supposed to be in their twenties but come off sounding like 16yo Valley girls.
Can't totally blame the narrator: what were the director or producer doing?
    Aunt Tilly strikes again
Love this series. The right balance of humour and intrigue to keep you interested till the end. Can't wait for the next book in the series!
    Like woah.
Loved the story but the narrator made everyone sound like an angsty teen. Like Jimmy Fallon's Sara character in his "Ew!" skits. I think the inflection was off? I love Aunt Tilly and would like to see the Moms fleshed out more. Just because you are over 50 doesn't mean your life is over! Hopefully I will get my wish in later books.
    Great series
Love the characters in the series and the funny situations they find themselves in. I struggled with the narration on this book; though her reading improved as the stories progressed.
    The Winchester ladies are amazing!
The stories of the Winchester Witches are fantastic! Bay, Thistle, Clove and of course Aunt Tilly and fun, crazy, and downright enjoyable! I'd hang with these ladies anytime!

    Publisher's Summary:
    Things are looking up.
For the first time in what feels like years, October "Toby" Daye has been able to pause long enough to take a breath and look at her life - and she likes what she sees. She has friends. She has allies. She has a squire to train and a King of Cats to love, and maybe, just maybe, she can let her guard down for a change.
Or not. When Queen Windermere's seneschal is elf-shot and thrown into an enchanted sleep by agents from the neighboring Kingdom of Silences, Toby finds herself in a role she never expected to play: that of a diplomat. She must travel to Portland, Oregon, to convince King Rhys of Silences not to go to war against the Mists. But nothing is that simple, and what October finds in Silences is worse than she would ever have imagined.
How far will Toby go when lives are on the line and when allies both old and new are threatened by a force she had never expected to face again? How much is October willing to give up, and how much is she willing to change? In Faerie, what's past is never really gone.
It's just waiting for an opportunity to pounce.
A Red-Rose Chain is the ninth installment in Seanan McGuire's urban fantasy October "Toby" Daye series.

    Excellent story
Even after nine books, the October Daye series (and the Chris McGrath cover art) is still fantastic!
The October Daye series by Seanan McGuire is one of my very favorite Urban Fantasy series. A Red Rose Chain, Book 09 in the series, is an excellent installment AND an object lesson in why you should take out your enemies when you have a chance because if you dont, theyll come back to stab you in the heart!
The Kingdom of Silences has declared war on the Kingdom of the Mists, and Toby is sent to Silences to either 1) negotiate peace, or 2) infuriate the monarch into violating law or custom bad enough to get himself deposed. Guess which one Toby is best at?
Some of the things the King of Silences is doing to his people are atrocious. I found myself wondering what the High King of what is essentially North America is doing. Does he not visit his kingdoms? Does he not check in on the state of his people? How did Silences get away with what they were doing without someone finding out?
This book highlights Tobys growing relationship with Tybalt. Its quite fun to see a lighter side of Tybalt every once in awhile. Its also good to see the two of them communicating and saving each other. There is no one-sidedness to Toby and Tybalts relationship, which is awesome to see in this genre. Tybalt is still an alpha male to be sure, but also a rational creature who can do more than act on instinct.
One thing I really enjoy is when long running series do more than stand-alone stories. A Red Rose Chain deals with the consequences of things that have happened in other novels. I think this is a sign of great writing, AND it makes the reread of the books even better.
As always, narrator Mary Robinette Kowal does a fantastic job with the characters in Tobys world.
Purchased. Review courtesy of One Book Two | one book, two reviews.
    Filler book
Hmmm, I'm not sure what happened here. I'm left feeling disappointed and confused because surely I missed something...
After Queen Windermere's seneschal is elf-shot, Toby and the gang head to the Kingdom of Silences on a diplomatic mission.

    Different spin
This book is the first in a series that promises to be outstanding. Oxford's world-building skills are phenomenal! Initially, Earth seems exactly like we know it to be, a young man working a minimum wage job, with a pretty girlfriend and a crappy apartment. That is, until he is shown he can be something more, and that the world(s) isn't what it seems. I listened to this with my 12 year old son, during our long commutes, and we were equally enraptured!
    Good begining
I really enjoyed this book it was good world building and the characters were developed It I am planning on following this series and look forward to the next book.
    The Guardian's Grimoire
This book was actually really good in my opinion. I really like books that contain magical themes. I'm usually more of a horror reader/listener. Although I'm really a horror, fantasy, mystical type guy. I thought the narrator did a superb job of making each character unique and distinct. Overall I enjoyed it quite a bit. I can't wait to listen to the other books in the guardian series.
    Fun
This is Damn good book with awesome characters, personalities and world building that is not to over whelming. The VA ( Todd Menesses ) that was chosen narrate was awesome!
    Wonderful
What a wonderful surprise. Truly entertaining. I wish the other books in the series were on Audible.

Not the best, but better than many on audible
One thing I have come to realize is that audible is full of many so so Sci-fi books that somehow have received decent enough ratings to full even the most relaxed tastes.
I am no critic, nor am I a purist, but what I do appreciate is the truthfulness of an honest review, and I have to say, after you listen to some books on here with 4.5 and 5 star ratings from readers, you may begin to wander if your standards are too high, or maybe theirs are too low.
This is not one of those books. Its not Hugo award winning and its clear that the author isnt writing with that in mind. Its good military/paramilitary sci-fi with enough intrigue to keep your interest, but not enough to make you run out and get the next book in the series. This is more of an in-between series that you read in between waiting for something you are really eager to come out.
    Choppy Story
Maybe it's just me, but this was ho-hum. I normally enjoy these space operas, but this one seemed disjointed. I found myself wondering if I had missed something in every chapter. All the scifi-plot discovery comes at the end and doesn't make sense.
Potentially good, but drastically underdeveloped characters.
The end leaves everything hanging, ostensibly to drive you to the next book in the series. However, I am left happy to be finished and without a desire to move forward.
I loved Currie's Odyssey One series. This one didn't do it for me.
    Very poor science
I actually tried to return this one halfway through, but failed due to technical difficulty. I ended up finishing it but I did not enjoy this book at all. Poorly written, unbelievable/impossible science. Yes science fiction is fiction BUT when the "science" does not follow the rules of the universe at all it becomes a problem. Example: surviving a nuclear blast close enough to be hit by the pressure wave with only a boulder as protection...REALLY? come on give me a break, you can do better than that! If the story itself was better written I could overlook some liberties taken with reality, BUT the story was none too believable either. Poorly written, poorly developed characters, poor dialogue, overall just poor.
Narration was average but couldn't save the poor writing.
Very sad that there is so much poor sci-fi out there.
    Good story needs editing
Old school editing seems to be dead. Currie has good stuff here and I plan to
Listen to at least one more book. But there are so many as you know bobs and other info dumps plus point of view shifts that it was difficult for me to hang on through the whole book. I strongly encourage currie and editors to remember the greatness of dickens and aspire to that level of tell by show and consistent point of view. Also narration tries too hard for Gravity.

    More Misses Than Hits
The Global Warming mid 21st century tipping point was more than just advocacy writing, it was evangelizing. Also, the story's solution to correct AGW was to position mirrors in orbit to reflect sun light back, away from Earth. While it may not take all the tea in China to accomplish this it would certainly take all the sand in the Sahara and then some for mirror construction alone.
The rest of the story progressed smoothly, rather too smoothly for my liking, unfortunately. My primary character, Sgt. Aida, now 2nd Lieutenant (soon to become 1st Lieutenant) is moved to a teacher role and then into a command role in a mechanized team of huge titan-like fighters with Captain Ton reappearing in Aida's traditional role as ground trooper leader. The section where she "becomes one with" the alien six dimensional space simply by walking through was more than a bit over the top. Additionally, while I had preferred the humanizing changes in Aida's character in books 2 and 3 over her rather arrogant persona in book 1, I believe the author has gone too far in the other direction in book 4. This was probably expected with her now in an officer role but, still, I miss the blood and guts Aida from before.
Lastly, this book is mostly a series of space opera battles and, while it does go a long ways to detailing the various alien races in the Alliance, space battles always seems detached from the human experience of inflicting death and trauma on others, somewhat akin to present day air forces dropping bombs on enemy positions.
    Rockin storytelling
I bought the first title of this series as a daily deal and it has me hooked. Great story arc with a female protagonist that is incredibly...smart, tough, resourceful snd I could go on for quite a while but I'll leave it to you to discover. If you like sci-fi with with well developed characters and a very limited, and I repeat limited, amount of the hackneyed love interest stuff (these people are to busy and professional for that) you will like this. I'm more of a mystery reader and this thing has plenty of mystery, but I'm really enjoying the books. I hope you will too.
    Titans on the move
The Valhalla Call is Evan Currie's 4th installment in the Silver Wings series. While the tale opens with Sorilla attending West Point (while simultaneously training the upper brass in alien warfare tactics), Solcom is planning an ambitious agenda to begin to take the battle to the aliens. At the same time, a large, two part alien fleet is observed to be entering the region around Hayden.

"You are food. Those muscles you flex to walk, lift, and talk? They're patties of meat topped with chewy tendon. That skin you've paid so much attention to in mirrors? It's delicious to the right tongues, a casserole of succulent tissue. And those bones that give you the strength to make your way in the world? They rattle between teeth as the marrow is sucked down slobbering throats. These facts are unpleasant but useful. But everything changes for Jim when a 45-year-old mystery resurfaces, threatening the lives of everyone in his seemingly sleepy town. Soon Jim has to team up with a band of unlikely (and some unhuman) heroes to battle the monsters he never knew existed.

"Narrator Kirby Heyborne works his vocal magic in a story that is, by turns, amusing and blood curdling.... Heyborne is in his element as he creates the garbled language and horrifying growls and howls of the fearsome trolls. Hes equally at home voicing teens and adults, particularly the stuttering local sheriff." (

Not as good as the cartoon, but still awesome.
I very much enjoyed this book. The narrator kind of bugged me, but the story was a ton of fun. It was very interesting to see the changes between the book and the cartoon. While I do feel the cartoon is (ironically) better, it is fun to compare the differences between the two. This one is much more like a live-action movie, with much more grit, blood and true monsters. It's fun, and I recommend it.
    Wonderful!!
Absolutely incredible!!! I originally became interested in this title due to a show on Netflix and this book is sooo much better than what was produced for television. it is wonderfully written and performed.
    Awesome performance!
Elementary to middle school level enjoyment. Kirby Heybourne was awesome as narrator. He's very enjoyable to listen to.
    Unexpectedly Excellent
So fun and entertaining, no reservations... I was dubious, but was quickly won over w/ the flippant humor, as well as the impressively conceived yarn;) Usually not a fan of the genre in general, but this one makes me reconsider that opinion... Reminded me a bit of John Connoly's Samuel Johnson/Biddlecombe books - The Gates, The Infernals, and The Creeps... Similar use of humor w/ the slightly gothic setting/mood... Silly - yes fantastical - yes worth a read - no question... I read it in one sitting w/ a slight break for sleep... Certainly worth the credit... The only negative, and it's a small one, is the the narrator is smidge slow, but played well at 1.25x... Go for it, you'll thank me...

not as good as animated series. much more needed. without the amulet essentially granting them magic powers and putting them on even keel with trolls.

    Good but Still Not Great
Though the switch to Germany and it's plethora of tales has helped restore the faith in this series I lost when Steadfast came out, there's still something missing. The story is entertaining and the characters are interesting, but the flow is almost too smooth. When the final conflict came it was somewhat predictable, and the only "surprise" at the end was actually rather underwhelming.
Overall, it's worth reading as part of the series. But it's not going to be the book that makes your week, or the one that keeps you awake at night to see how the chapter ends. if you like the series then it's an enjoyable listen to pass the time. Otherwise all that can be said about it is that it's an interesting adaptation of Rapunzel, as well as an interesting look into certain aspects of German culture that aren't often discussed.
Favorite in the Elemental masters series
What did you love best about From a High Tower?
From a High Tower isn't an obvious love story. I very much liked the independent, though somewhat unsure, protagonist. Also the old time wild west traveling show was a great addition.
What other book might you compare From a High Tower to and why?
hard to say, it's Rapunzel meets an old west dime novel
Have you listened to any of Jennifer Van Dycks other performances before? How does this one compare?
Storm Born: Dark Swan, but I much preferred this story. Jennifer Van Dyck is a wonderful voice actress either way
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
the end scene of Giselle chasing Rosa around in mock anger
    Thoroughly enjoyable
This is a road trip story, so it progresses in a rambling sort of way, with a lot of day to day detail and entertaining episodes. There's a bit of more focused plot at the end, for a satisfying finish, but mainly, it's a road trip.
Jennifer Van Duck does a good job with all the many voices and accents.
    twists and turns.
It was excellent. everytime my mind thought it would go one way, it went differently.
Always up for Mercedes Lackey books
I have been a fan of the Elemental Series since I started reading them and haven't missed one yet. No great words of wisdom from me, just a general like of this book. Performance was good, story was enjoyable, a twist on the Rapunzel theme, and basically recommended for anyone who likes light reading.
