    Title: Love You Bye
    Subtitle: My Story
    Author: Scott Mills
    Narrator: Scott Mills
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 5 hrs and 2 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 02-14-13
    Publisher: Hachette Audio UK
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 5 votes
    Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Celebrities
    Publisher's Summary:
The story of how a painfully shy boy from the suburbs of Southampton made it to the biggest radio station in the UK, and just about managed to stay there....
Scott Mills is a daily companion to millions of listeners as the host of the afternoon show on Radio 1 - a station that has been his home for over 14 years. Whether regaling us with a typically embarrassing celebrity anecdote or trying to control a particularly chaotic round of 'Innuendo Bingo', his company is always brilliantly entertaining, thanks to his infectious enthusiasm and easy-going manner. But behind the microphone sits a man whose route to the top has been anything but straightforward. In this witty and endearingly honest autobiography, Scott describes his incredible career and the hurdles he's faced along the way.
Aside from the sometimes humiliating - and frequently hilarious - jobs that are part and parcel of a local radio DJ's apprenticeship, he's had to deal with crippling anxiety attacks, alcohol and weight issues, and a great deal more over the years. But his desire to land his dream job has always prevailed, and he's now one of the nation's favourite radio and television broadcasters, travelling the world on both serious assignments and altogether more bizarre adventures. From washing cars on a garage forecourt off the A4 in the name of radio entertainment, to encounters with some of the world's biggest celebrities, Love You Bye provides Scott's legions of fans with a fascinating look at the man whose voice they know so well.

    I love Scott Mills
I really like Scott Mills, I've listen to all of his podcast and love his sense of humor. His podcast often have me in tears. This book is good, but not great. I feel so sad to say that as I wish it was better. This book is almost better suited to people who aren't big fans of his show. The problem is if you are a fan you already know most of the stuff covered in the book. I did still laugh a lot, but not nearly as much as I do when I listen to his podcast. So buy it to support him, if you like him a lot, but there aren't any great big reveals. Totally worth a read if you don't know him well or don't listen to his show much. He's a cool guy and his podcast/radio shows are excellent!
    Brilliant insight
I've always loved Scott mills from when he hosted the 4-7 show on radio 1. I loved the fact he narrated it himself which really helped understand his story. Very insightful into his demons he had and how he overcame them. i loved the way he put entertainment into it and it made the book very enjoyable. I very much enjoyed this book and would recommend to anyone for a bit of light entertainment.
Good for a Mills fan, but nothing groundbreaking.
As a long-time listener to Scott's show on Radio 1, I felt like this book wasn't telling me much I didn't know already. That being said, it was entertaining, and very easy to listen to, but you could get the same content for free by downloading his Radio 1 Podcast for a few months and picking out the highlights.
    Worth a Listen
Not as funny as I expected. I thought it would cover more of his life but dives in and out of parts of his life and just brushes over everything. Seemed very rushed. Won't listen to again.

    Great Read
Great book great story great Sir Roger Moore..a lovely first hand Account of all his Bond films, life & times..sadly missed by fans the world over
    Bond is still Bond
What did you like best about Bond on Bond? What did you like least?
Roger Moore is a pleasure to listen too, some humor that is almost over your shoulder and missed if you do not listen too closely. What did I like the least, I suppose I just expected more regarding the making of the movies, back of set fun and games. This does go into that but seemed to lack. It was too much like a dictionary for my liking
Would you be willing to try another book from Roger Moore? Why or why not?
Yes, a great voice, one I could listen too over and over.
Could you see Bond on Bond being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
I have always been particular to say each actor who played Bond was the right one for the moment however, if a movie or TV series of this book would have to be someone with a great wit. Maybe Rowan Atkinson, John Cleese (yes I know he's been in the movies) or even, as this is a book like a dictionary of history, David Tennant or Matt Smith. You can take Bond Seriously but its best done, in my opinion as a retrospective tongue in cheek.
    Any additional comments?
This was enjoyable, but be a big fan to listen all the way through. I am glad I did.
    The accout of a gentleman
In this book the self deprecating Roger Moore tells the story of the screen hero, James Bond from the first Eon production of Dr No through to the second Craig outing, Quantum of Solace. Moore is generous to a fault, no only in his praise of all of the movies and people involved through to his donation of part proceeds to UNESCO.
What you loose on the plates you gain on the warmth and wit of Moore's voice as he tells us about his and others experiences on the movies. Being a personal friend of both producers, Saltzman and Broccili he has insight into the franchise that no other person has and he brings this into his narrative. Being invited to every opening screening and also being on the set for his seven outings as well as his personal connections makes this a unique account.
This audiobook is a must for any Bond fan or even Moore fan, even if you have the paper version if only to experience that wit and warmth that Moore is now famous for.
    Shaken not stirred
I love James Bond and I love listening to Sir Roger Moore, he was my first James Bond and who better to ask to cast his wry eye over the Bonds. He reads his book superbly, giving us all insights into the world of Bond with his humour coming across at all times. Excellent.
    Do we need Moore
Maybe nothing in this that will be knew to the die hard Bondian but its nice to here Moore reminisce none the less. A voice to live for.

    Title: On the Right Track
Subtitle: From Olympic Downfall to Finding Forgiveness and the Strength to Overcome and Succeed
    Author: Marion Jones, Maggie Greenwood-Robinson
    Narrator: Marion Jones
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 5 hrs and 34 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 08-02-12
    Publisher: Hachette Audio
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 1 votes
    Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Celebrities
    Publisher's Summary:
For more than a decade, Marion Jones was hailed as the "the fastest woman on the planet". At the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia, she became the first woman ever to win five medals at one Olympics. That same year, the Associated Press and ESPN named her Athlete of the Year. She was on the cover of Vogue and Time. She seemed to have it all - fame, fortune, talent, and international acclaim. Now she is a convicted felon.
The trouble started in 2003 when she lied to federal agents about her use of a performance-enhancing drug and her knowledge of a check-fraud scam. In 2007, no longer able to live with the lies, she admitted the truth. In a sad end to what seemed like a storybook career, she was stripped of her medals, and her track-and-field records were wiped from the books.
She was incarcerated at Carswell federal prison in Fort Worth, Texas - a prison known for its violence and abuse. While there, she kept herself in shape and her sanity intact by running on a dirt track and a treadmill in the prison's improvised weight room. But her imprisonment was not the end for Marion Jones. In fact, it marked a new beginning. She is now using her story to change the lives of people the world over and inspire others who, like her, face obstacles that seem insurmountable.
On the Right Track is the candidly told story of how Marion came to grips with her lies and the consequences of her actions, and how she found meaning in all of it. What she tells her children and has now applied to her own life is that when you make a mistake, you admit it, you accept the consequences, you move on, you make the wrong a right. She teaches her children and others to take a break and pause before making impulsive and potentially harmful decisions.
At the heart of this book are real issues that we all face: learning to grow through pain; making decisions that will help us far into the future; overcoming failure and discouragement; and applying practical principles that point the way to personal and spiritual breakthrough.
    Members Reviews:
    Easy Read & "Real Talk"
I enjoyed reading Marion's story because I do not usually read autobiographies. It was my book club selection so I read the book. The book was inspiring and serves as a lesson-learned tool for all ages, but particularly for young people. Marion did a great job in keeping her story "real" without glossing over shameful acts she committed. I'm sure her family is proud of her and how she have triumph over her adversities.
Everyone of us have -at some time or another- did or said things in our lives that we knew were not right yet we covered them up to avoid embarrassment, scrutiny or consequences all in the name of saving our own skin.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who has made mistakes and is looking for a pathway to redemption. Kudos to you Marion!

I wasn't as impressed with her as much as I thought I'd be. She made some terrible choices and

    Publisher's Summary:
Jamie rose from humble pastry chef to television star by catching the eye of producers during a documentary about the River Café,where he was working at the time. His onscreen charisma meant he featured heavily in the finished documentary; the offers came flooding in, and so The Naked Chef was born. Jamies passion shone through and drew in a younger audience. Cooking became cool!
Through his Fifteen charity restaurant and campaigns to ban unhealthy food in schools and get Britain cooking again, Jamie has proven to be more than simply a celebrity chef. His desire to bring about radical change has seen him meet with top politicians and raise millions for his causes. Here is the intimate story behind the devoted husband and father of two, television celebrity, political animal, and talented chef.

    what a life!!
Jamie Oliver is an amazing chef. Learning about his life made him even more interesting. There were many things i didnt know
    Disappointing
As a fan of Jamie Oliver's cookbooks and television shows, I was looking forward to learning more about him, his influences and background. I was disappointed by the simplistic writing style and repetition of various stories throughout the book. Even though the book just came out (maybe it was released much earlier in the UK?) it doesn't seem very up to date - of the 281 pages, the authors don't get to the year 2001 until page 253 and then they describe the recent years (the birth of his daughters, creation of Fifteen, school lunch activism, etc.) pretty quickly and not in depth at all. I'm glad I got this one from the library and didn't purchase it!
    Poorly Written Book
The level of writing in this book is like that of a primary school child. It's a hagiography, not a biography, with no criticism of Jamie whatsoever. But that shouldn't be a surprise - the title gives away the viewpoint of the book pretty clearly.
Although only published in 2007,the book was clearly written in 2000 or 2001. It concentrates almost exclusively on the first two years of Jamie's television career, and only the final couple of (brief) chapters cover the period of 2001 to 2007.
This is the most disappointing biography I have ever read - the authors are clearly trying to make a fast buck by cobbling together a lazily-researched and written book.

Title: Freddie Mercury: The Definitive Biography
    Author: Lesley-Ann Jones
Narrator: Jane Collingwood, Lesley-Ann Jones, Hugh Lee, Kristopher Milnes, Kevin Shenn
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 12 hrs and 9 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 06-28-12
    Publisher: Hodder & Stoughton
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 5 votes
    Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Celebrities
    Publisher's Summary:
This is the definitive biography of Freddie Mercury. Written by an award-winning rock journalist, Lesley-Ann Jones toured widely with Queen forming lasting friendships with the band. Now, having secured access to the remaining band members and those who were closest to Freddie, from childhood to death, Lesley-Ann has written the most in depth account of one of music's best loved and most complex figures. Meticulously researched, sympathetic, unsensational, the audiobook - like the forthcoming film - will focus on the period in the 1980s when Queen began to fragment, before their Live Aid performance put them back in the frame. In her journey to understand the man behind the legend, Lesley-Ann Jones has travelled from London to Zanzibar to India. Packed with exclusive interviews and told with the invaluable perspective that the twenty years since Mercury's death presents, Freddie Mercury is the most up to date portrait of a legendary man.
    Critic Reviews:
"No one has captured better than Lesley-Ann Jones the magical, enchanting dualism of Freddie Mercury." (The Times)
    Members Reviews:
    Interesting book but irritating listen
The main narrator makes this book an interesting listen but it's let down by the other voices who imitate members of the band and also people who had been interviewed by the author.
The imitated American accents are an insult to the ear and sound like chalk on a blackboard.
Also, the author has tried to cleverly shoehorn in Queen song titles into sentences but it is also an irritant
On the whole , it's full of interesting trivia but you're better off reading the book rather than listening to it.
    Not enough about Freddie
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I would if the person was more interested in the music and groups of the time.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
Freddie's childhood was the most interesting.
I got bored with the details of all the music and other bands.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
I did not like the voices used especially that of "Freddie's mother" she sounded as if she was permanently crying and it was irritating and whiny.
Was Freddie Mercury: The Definitive Biography worth the listening time?
    Yes.
    Dreadful. Don't buy.
I'm a big fan of biographies and auto-biographies, my favourites being those of musicians particularly. I've read and listened to many (some of which are awfully good and very insightful) and I purchased this (along side a couple of others) before I went on holiday recently. I have to say that this was a huge disappointment to me.
Lesley-Ann Jones is a hack journalist who writes (or has written) for the Daily Mail, Mail on Sunday and the Mail's Sunday supplement magazine. This book sounds basically like a stitched together series of journalistic quotes and sections that have been written over the years (possibly by many writers) and then regurgitated by this author. The structure of the book is very much quote to quote from celebs and contemporaries and it lurches a bit between them to make them fit.

Title: Hollywood Madonna: Loretta Young (Hollywood Legends)

    Release date: 06-06-12
    Publisher: University Press Audiobooks
Ratings: 3 of 5 out of 15 votes
    Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Celebrities
    Publisher's Summary:
Loretta Young (1913-2000) was an Academy Award-winning actress known for devout Catholicism and her performances in The Farmer's Daughter, The Bishop's Wife, and Come to the Stable, and for her long-running and tremendously popular television series. But that was not the whole story.
Hollywood Madonna explores the full saga of Loretta Young's professional and personal life. She made her film debut at age four, became a star at fifteen, and many awards and accolades later, made her final television movie at age seventy-six. This biography withholds none of the details of her affair with Clark Gable and the daughter that powerful love produced. Bernard F. Dick places Young's affair in the proper context of the time and the choices available to women in 1935, especially a noted Catholic like Young, whose career would have been in ruins if the public knew of her tryst. With the birth of a daughter, who would have been branded a love child, Loretta Young reached the crossroads of disclosure and deception, choosing the latter path. That choice resulted in an illustrious career for her and a tortured childhood for her daughter.
    Members Reviews:
    Dry, but informative
Would you try another book from Bernard F. Dick and/or Cira Larkin?
Dick does a thorough examination of the life and times of Lorretta Young, so much so however, that the overabundance of details made it a little dry. Larkin's voice was smooth and appropriate for chronicling such a glamorous Hollywood starlet and her tone and treatment of the text made the wealth of facts much more palatable. I would listen to another one of her narrations, but probably not one of Dick's works.
Would you recommend Hollywood Madonna: Loretta Young (Hollywood Legends) to your friends? Why or why not?
Probably not, unless they had a real interest in Loretta Young specifically or wanted to learn more about the lifestyle of starlets from that era.
    Which scene was your favorite?
No one part of the book stood out for me.
Did Hollywood Madonna: Loretta Young (Hollywood Legends) inspire you to do anything?
Listen to it until the end.
    So So Loretta
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This book, however, does a fairly good, though I don't believe, comprehensive, job of putting Loretta Young's very long and successful career into perspective. He goes off track about other actors and their films, more than the focus on Loretta. You don't get much on the personal either. So its okay, but if your looking for alot information you won't find it here.
a little too long. not enough Loretta,
Is there anything you would change about this book?
    less about her movies
Who was your favorite character and why?
    Loretta
What three words best describe Cira Larkins voice?
    pretty good
Was Hollywood Madonna: Loretta Young (Hollywood Legends) worth the listening time?
    yes
    Any additional comments?
kept going back and forth. in time .. you lost where you were
Disappointing: in need of a good editor
Would you try another book from Bernard F. Dick and/or Cira Larkin?
Hollywood biographies come in many flavors, but this one seems to defy categorization.

    Language: English
    Release date: 05-10-12
    Publisher: Random House Audiobooks
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 8 votes
    Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Celebrities
    Publisher's Summary:
Fanatical about cricket since he was a boy, Miles Jupp would do anything to see his heroes play. But perhaps deciding to bluff his way into the press corps during England's Test series in India wasn't his best idea. By claiming to be the cricket correspondent for BBC Scotland and getting a job with the (Welsh) Western Mail, Miles lands the press pass that will surely be the ticket to his dreams.
Soon, he finds himself in cricket heaven - drinking with David Gower and Beefy, sharing bar room banter with Nasser Hussain, and swapping diarrhea stories with the Test Match Special team. Amazing! But struggling in the heat under the burden of his own fibs, reality soon catches up with Miles as - like a cricket-obsessed Boot from Evelyn Waugh's Scoop - he bumbles from one disaster to the next.
A joyous, charming, yet cautionary tale, Fibber in the Heat is for anyone who's ever dreamt about doing nothing but watching cricket all day long.

Bailed out after 2 chapters -- nothin' happening
How could the performance have been better?
A real voice actor would have done better.
    Any additional comments?
I gave it a good try, but after 2 chapters with no interesting characters developed and very little plot development, I couldn't go on.
    It's Just Not Cricket!
I know absolutely nothing about cricket and wouldn't have read this as a book but I adore Miles Jupp so I wanted to hear this as he is reading it himself.
It is more than just a cricket book- it is a hilarious listen as he goes through his love of the game and the journey, both actual and spiritual, he takes to what he thinks is going to be his dream job.
    An absolute hoot!
    Superb
This started life as a stage show that was hugely enjoyable and has now been extended to full length book. A must for both fans of cricket and for those who are ambivalent, it mixes humour and pathos as it follows Miles Jupp's attempts to pass himself off as a cricket journalist on England's tour of India through to his final realisation of the reality of his love for the game. I saw the show three times; this is a permanent and extended reminder of those, one one that can be listened to again and again.
    Bowled over
I am not a fan of cricket at all. However I am a fan of Mr. Jupp. He is someone who is rather embarrassed about being posh but is really funny with it. A very likeable character. On the whole I found this audio book charming, funny and very well read by the author. But I'm afraid I feel I missed out a lot not being a fan of, in my opinion, the very dull game of cricket. If you are a fan of Miles but not a fan of cricket, then still a good listen. If you are fan of cricket but not a fan of Miles, it's still a good listen. If you don't like either, avoid.

    Publisher's Summary:
When it comes to living life to its fullest, Rosalind Russell's character Auntie Mame is still the silver screen's exemplar. And Mame, the role Russell (1907-1976) will always be remembered for, embodies the rich and rewarding life Bernard F. Dick reveals in his biography, Forever Mame: The Life of Rosalind Russell.
Drawing on personal interviews and information from the archives of Russell and her producer-husband Frederick Brisson, Dick begins with Russell's childhood in Waterbury, Connecticut, and chronicles her early attempts to achieve recognition after graduating from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. Frustrated by her inability to land a lead in a Broadway show, she headed for Hollywood in 1934 and two years later played her first starring role, the title character in Craig's Wife.
Dick discusses all of her films along with her triumphal return to Broadway, first in the musical Wonderful Town and later in Auntie Mame. Forever Mame details Russell's social circle of such stars as Loretta Young, Cary Grant, and Frank Sinatra. It traces an extraordinary career, ending with Russell's courageous battle against the two diseases that eventually caused her death: rheumatoid arthritis and cancer. Russell devoted her last years to campaigning for arthritis research. So successful was she in her efforts to alert lawmakers to this crippling disease that a leading San Francisco research center is named after her.

    so dull.
I spent hours of reading this and know next to nothing about Rosalind Russell. It's mostly just very basic and uninsightful rambling about her plays and films. a crashing bore. nobody expects to read a "biography" that consists largely of exhaustive synopses of her work. I guess I know how all of her movies end now, even the ones I've never seen.
The narrator is okay, he just has a habit of mispronouncing things.
