Yes, especially if they like running and/or are a fan of Mo.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

The book ended nicely. There where two things I felt at the end, firstly how amazing that through his hard work, and determination he achieved all of his sporting triumphs. Secondly I think Mo is a very positive example of someone from another country who comes to this country, and works hard and gives a great deal to the UK.

Have you listened to any of Arinze Kenes other performances? How does this one compare?

I have not, but I found his narration clear and the book was well read by him.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did actually find this strangely addictive. I did want to see what happens next even though all that usually happened next was he won another race or he lost one.

Any additional comments?

I did feel a bit bored in places, as he does name drop quite a lot regarding fellow athletes, who is who at a race meeting and what times they clocked.

High wire story falls flat.

Interesting glimpse into a life lived around the circus. He is a pretty (over) confident person and the book tended to drag with too much focus on himself, how amazing he is, and a never ending push for the next stunt. This clearly is who he is, but I would like to have more insight into his life on the road and anecdotes about circus culture and stories in that line.

Great book by Nik Wallenda. Sent to my Dad for his 88th birthday. He loves it!

"Balance" a book that gives you a spiritual high and a desire to push beyond our limits to achieve more.

This book about the life of the 7th generation of the Wallendas is truly amazing. I could not put the book down. It is beyond comprehension how Nik does not know fear. By his talks to God throughout his feats and his emotions during the time of completing his achievements gave me a spiritual high. The balances of his life between his great achievements, his family, and his strong faith in God makes one know that this person is truly special. He is a gifted, talented and a humble person that puts God first in his life. I was very impressed with all his World Records and "how" he accomplished them. He has a drive within himself that makes him a legend through his faith. Highly recommend this book.

Very inspiring in terms of faith, hope & love. With God all things are possible even when politicians say no. God is sovereign. Nik not only talk the talk, but walks the "walk" & it's the best encouraging book I have read. ( besides the Bible)

Interesting Tale ...

sometimes the delivery is a bit wooden, but Neil Warnock's tale rings true. I don't doubt the events he described unfolded much as he describes them, and as a footie fan they are interesting stories and anecdotes. An easy listen.

A very pleasant surprise

Neil Warnock could lay claim to being one of British football's most divisive characters. For someone who has held relatively little experience managing in the top flight, there can be few fans that dont hold an opinion on him, regardless if he has managed at one of their clubs. Often described as footballing Marmite, Warnock (not unlike one of his former players Joey Barton) is a figure either loved or detested by most who have witnessed his outspoken post-match interviews, or opinions on others in the game (opinions which, as Warnock himself admits in this book, were occasionally given before he was fully aware of the facts surrounding them.)

I will admit to being a fan of Warnock, and someone who was often rather baffled by the vitriol spat his way. In a sport where opinions from the biggest names are sanitised by publicists to the point of inanity, characters like Warnock are often a fascinating diversion, whether referring to El-Hadji Diouf as a sewer rat or accusing an opposing goalkeeper of falling a little too dramatically after being assaulted by a fan of Warnocks Leeds team. This book is unlikely to transform opinion of him one way or another, but there is a great deal to admire in this audiobook.

Not least of which is Warnocks fine reading of it. It would have been very easy to allow some gruff Yorkshire-twanged thespian to apply their tones here, but Warnock is clearly proud of his book, and manfully works through it in a clear, pleasant manner, whilst never tempering his accent. Olivier he aint, but audible biography usually works so much better when read by the subject, and Warnocks media work (particularly his radio-presenting experience) is much in evidence here.

Warnock also deserves credit for his approach. There is little mention of the working-class roots..loving parentsall I wanted to do was play football humdrum that the first 100 pages or so of most football autobiographies are wasted on.

QUITE INFORMATIVE.

This book was more insightful conccerning her personal life; and though I enjoyed it, I feel as though there's a lot that's left out because this woman looks so unhappy! I've never been much of a smiler for most of my life and the reason is that there wasn't much to smile about. But this woman is supposed to have everything she's ever wanted but she looks like she's crying on the inside and that bothers me. I guess most people would say that I'm wasting my sympathy on a shallow, materialistic individual, but I don't know. I guess time will tell.

Brilliant Read

To get a close enough encounter to comprehend someone, this book will help you a bit out in the are of getting to know Victoria in a way the media does not represent her! She is a good person, and no different than any one else out there who has strong determination to succeed at what she desires!

This book begins with Victoria Beckham's childhood and chronicles her early drive to be a performer, her audition with the Spice Girls, meeting David Beckham, the meteoric success of the Spice Girls, the birth of her son and fairy tale wedding to David Beckham. It also describes her struggles to launch a solo singing career after the Spice Girls, her early foray into the fashion industry, the accusations of her husband's infidelity and the Beckham's staunch denials of it. The book also includes the events that led to the Beckhams relocation to America.

This is an easy read. It does not whitewash the choices of Victoria Beckham and the Spice Girls when she ends her romantic relationship to concentrate on her career or when the Spice Girls fire their first manager (the man who put them together) to hire a new manager who eventually landed them lucrative commerical endorsements. The book paints a fair picture of Ms.

A Great Man... A Great Book

David Falkner's "Great Time Coming" is an excellent biography of the man who broke the unwritten major league policy that our national pastime was for 'white players' only. With Branch Rickey as his mentor, Jackie Robinson, on April 15, 1947, because the first of his race to play baseball in the big leagues. Playing for the legendary Brooklyn Dodgers, Robinson soon demonstrated that he was an accomplished ballplayer--winning the first-ever "Rookie of the Year" award; and then, just two years later, this exceptional man won the National League's batting title and the coveted Most Valuable Player award. While this aspect of Robinson's life, which ended tragically at age 53, is best known, author Falkner portrays him--not just for his ability in sports--but the man who worked diligently in the civil rights movements. He was a true family man, and one who was highly regarded by presidents, and other dignitaries in our country, and around the world. This biography is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Good biography, warts and all

I enjoyed this book greatly and learned a lot about this complex man.

Growing up in Brooklyn, I heard many stories about Jackie Robinson. All of them praised his courage and admired what he went through. But nobody ever thought of him as a saint, he was a complex character with many rough edges.

Most of what has been written about him has deified him incorrectly. The author makes it very clear early in the book that he wanted to show Robinson as "warts and all". And he succeeds, Robinson comes across as a complex human being.

Two things to note regarding the research done on this book. The author refers often to other biographies, especially when they disagree on various points. He then gives his account of the given point, a very good procedure.

The author also notes that he was not given any access to the "official" Jackie Robinson archives and that Jackie's widow and her minions refused to cooperate in any way shape or form with this book as well as trying to discourage others. All I can say about that is how petty those actions are.

I especially liked the depth in which the author discussed Robinson's post-baseball life, especially in the political arena. Robinson supported several prominent Republican politicians, such as Rockefeller and Nixon and took a lot of heat for his views. The author did a wonderful job in this area.

Great job by the author is separating man and myth.

I'm a big Jackie Robinson fan and this book taught me things I never understood or knew! Great reading. Great insights into the life of a true pioneer! BUY IT!

Memoir of a singer, actress, seeker and humanitarian

I was a fan of Gloria Loring from my teens. Though not a household name, she has touched the lives of many people who may or may not even know it. This memoir reveals dimensions of her life and its troubles that I did not know about. She has overcome some personal tragedies by turning therm into ways of helping others. Her problems would have sunk many people even if they had her advantages. Her spiritual journey may not be for everyone, but it is more universal than you might at first realize. The audio-book is performed by the author who happens to be an accomplished singer as well as an actress.

Intriguing and thought provoking

This book is an absolute MUST READ for anyone who is looking to find peace and have an optimistic view toward life, to be a better you. Reading the book really opened my heart to not feeling so negative about myself and looking for the good in me as well as others. I enjoyed the way Gloria shared very personal moments of her life with us. I laughed and cried through the book. I am happy to know that Donald brought so much to her life and actually taught her to be more kind towards herself. On Days Thaao called her Glitz; I think that's a perfect nickname! I imagine she is referring to Joe Gallison as the cast member she had a disagreement with. If you watch youtube my username is lizneilfan and spiesoftheheart2 is uploading the Liz/Neil storyline starting with the time she was in jail. I really enjoyed how she spoke of Yoga and all the ways we can tap into ourselves to be a better person and to have peace. I will be reading this book over and over; it is that good.

A Fantasy/Life

A light-hearted, breezy memoire told as a series of vignettes from the lives of Menzies/Coward/Dietrich. We follow their three life stories from Menzies' New Zealand youth to his life in London, New York, Los Angeles, and around the world. And we follow him as he joins Coward/Dietrich in their haunts in Jamaica, Hollywood, and the Continent. Who could have imagined their three lives were so intertwined? Well, Menzies spent his life imagining it, and he recounts his fantasy/life here with grace and charm.

With my increasingly short attention span, I bounce from book to book on my Kindle, always reading three to six books at a time, never focusing on one for very long. But I read this bit of "superficial fluff" straight through, never losing interest in Menzies' notion of his connection to Coward/Dietrich and how it directed and enriched his life.

Now, if I could just lay my hands on a recording of the Sadlers Wells production of "Bitter Sweet", which obsessed him for so many years.......

A lovely, charming memoire.

A biography that is anything but superficial

Though Michael Menzies and some of his leading characters admit to living their lives stylishly, this autobiography is told with warmth, wit and a wealth of insight thereby making it anything but superficial. Episodes with or about the rich and famous, particularly Noel Coward and Marlene Dietrich, whom he believes to be his parents, are written humorously with a fair amount of intentional gossip. But it is Michael's observations about Clive and Mary, his birth mother and father, Eduardo, his adventure-loving partner of many years, and ultimately Michael himself, that are memorably poignant.
