As usual, this thing scared the willies out of me and my wife. It was exciting and troubling that there may be people that do such things. We haven't finished it yet, but I hope the guy gets his "come up ins"

Not So Great

After listening to the Godfather Returns, I could not wait to read this last installment. Mark Winegardner did not do a very good job creating this story. I loved the premise but the over book is just weak and left me feeling like I was in someways short changed, however he does manage to tie up all the loose ends.

Winegardner certainly does the whole series service by drawing out these long loved and venerable villains. The first book post Puzo is such an eye opener because Winegadner does such a loving job unpacking all the possibilities posed by the original.

Solid historical romance

This is another installment in the Bridgerton family series.

You do NOT have to read the preceding books to enjoy this book. It stands alone.

This is probably one of the weakest of Ms Quinn's books, who I have come to count on for witty repartee (Audible, please publish her earlier books). There are some moments worthy of a laugh or two, but not to the usual level. I actually bought this in paper quite a while back, and even a mediocre Quinn book shapes into a decent historical romance. But obviously it was not that memorable, since I bought it again on Audible as I couldn't remember reading it.

That said, it makes a better book to *listen* to than to *read* -- a real credit to the narrator. I was a little concerned to start - he is a older male voice - but he read the characters skillfully, and really gave "flavour" to the book -- an excellent reader (although the whole sex scene seemed, well -- I had to turn down the volume on my MP3 player as I expected shocked stares from others on the bus ;-)

Our heroine is intelligent and strong (although the way she is described, she borderlines being a shrew) from a loving and large family. Our hero is a reforming rake, with a seriously dysfunctional relationship with his nasty father. Hero and Heroine are thrown together while attempting to solve a mystery (the mystery was not that engaging, but that is fine, I didn't buy this for the mystery). There is the holding back of secrets, that impedes the relationship between our hero and heroine, it is eventually (of course) cleared up. The story was stronger at the start, a little rushed at the end, their relationship happened a little too fast, but overall it was a fine romance.

This book is not Julia Quinn's best, but still a solid, albeit a little predictable, historical romance. It gets 3 stars (3.5 stars for the parts that make me laugh/smile). The narrator pushes it to 4 stars (I am going to look for more from Mr Prebble!) Recommended.

Incomplete Narration

Here was the second book that did not have the 2nd Epilogue. I was forced into buying this version when the other version was pulled from audible for U.S. sale.

Dead Silence

I wish I had read the reviews before purchasing this book. Turns out the publisher's summary is the most interesting part. This is a story for the hopelessly romantic gal who wants to simply disengage her brain and escape reality and logic. All I can say about the main character, Grace Montgomery, is that for a smart woman she sure is dumb.

Five Stars for this Thriller!

I loved this audiobook and am thrilled that this author has another book I can download and listen to immediately but wish she had a lot more. Hopefully some more will appear soon. This book is about Grace, a woman who moves back to her home town where she is remembered as high school's "bad girl". Her stepfather's disappearance when she was 13 is a mystery that was never solved and keeps the townspeople talking about her "white trash" family and what they might have done to him. One man, Kennedy Archer, remembers Grace from high school and cringes with memories of how she was treated, regretting how his friends treated Gracie in high school and how he himself just plain ignored her. He finds the adult Grace, now a successful assistant district attorney to be very attractive and the feeling is mutual. Romance ensues along with great consternation among the townspeople, and Archer's mother and friends. This book is a fast read which doesn't lose your interest. A good mystery! Loved it.

worse than dull

I bought the first two books in this series because they were highly rated and we were terribly disappointed. The plot is weak, the characters are shallow and inconsistant and we didn't bother finishing either of them.

Suspending Disbelief

There were a few interesting aspects of this book if the reader or listener is looking for escapist junk but it is grating to find a character, who is smart enough to put herself through college and law school and is supposedly an officer of the court, stupid enough to commit the act of breaking and entering. I wanted to scream at her for being such an idiot and for allowing another character to harass her without this dumb bunny getting a restraining order against him. The reader was simply awful, especially when she was doing a male character.

Disappointing

I was very disappointed with this book. I expected a mystery and instead got a peculiar Southern romance novel with not very mysterious mystery elements thrown in. Additionally, the Southern accent of the narrator was over the top.

Not The Best

This title was actually a bit hard for me to get through and I had the un-abridged version. It became a "fill in" until the last two hours which were exciting but the beginning I found to be pretty dull. I probably would have thought even less had the reader not done his usual outstanding work. I have listened to all off the books in this series and will continue to do so. I was not unhappy iwth this title, just a bit disappointed.

I love the cast and characters, but the last 2 books seem to be rushed.

Not one of the best in the series. I still advise readers to read it, primarily to better understand the whole Pendercast mystique.

A more mature Michael...

I listened to this book immediately after the first, and prefer this one-- the protagonist is seven years older and has indeed matured, his motivations are clearer, the contrasts in his behavior (savage) and his intellect/sensitivity (intense) are less stark, which results in a more nuanced and intelligent novel, though still very much of a piece with the first. Although I could admire some things about Michael Forsythe in the first novel (his bravery, his poetry, his intelligence), in this novel I came to like him, the author gives him more internal conflict, more of a chance for redemption. As with the first book I found the read intense, but blood and gore don't stream through the book for shock's sake, it's not a book where the violence repulses though it certainly sounds as a constant in the novel and the protaganist's life. As with the first novel, the male characters are much more compelling and three-dimensional than the females, but...this particular world is a very ugly male world so far, so no real surpise. Nice to have two consistent, high caliber novels - I'm ready to read the third and hope for the same!

Where has this guy been?

A friend of mine recommended this series of books to me, and I loved every minute of them. Michael Forsythe is an interesting, captivating character. The narration is a perfect mate to these stories as it is very well done with Irish brogue and various other accents done to perfection.

I don't know why Adrian McKinty hasn't made best seller lists all over the place. I was blown away by his writing style - a thriller writer who puts his more popular contemporaries to shame (James Patterson eat your heart out!).

Start with this book and dive into the world of Michael Forsythe. Let him take you to places and thrilling situations to make you forget everything else. I know you'll quickly be getting the other two books when you're done with this one. Only a wee ijit would miss out on such fantastic storytelling.

Staying Cool, but not polar

I am a big fan of the first book in this series, but unfortunately, was not as much a fan of this one.

I really enjoyed the majority of this book, but my major problem was with two major turning point plot twists that made no sense and were outside the acceptable suspension of disbelief.

Captivating and moving story!

I thoroughly enjoyed Berry's previous novel, The Romanov Prophecy, and so was very excited to see this release on Audible. Like his previous work, Berry puts his spin on a classic historical event with intrigue. As such, his work may remind readers of Dan Brown and such, but he truly is a unique author. He develops his character well, and the story is continually moving. My only critique of this novel was that the ending, that is the secret, seemed a bit convenient, and thus not credible. Oh well, the story is still great and definitely a must listen!

.........reading the author's personal religious beliefs disguisd as a suspense novel, be my guest. Not up to Dan Brown standards. Forgeting that the story line is very unbeleivable, I don't like my suspense novels being op-ed pieces. Sorry, I really was looking for another DaVinci code but got a 12 hour editorial instead and I probably agree wih most of what the author is preaching.

The priest takes a lover

Is it really plausible for a vatican based priest to lose faith as fast as the main character in this book? He is sent on a quest by a pope he respects and is his mentor and what does he do? He immediately includes his former lover.

A True Dean Koontz Novel...as I see it

I think the last reviewer should have finished this book.I thought of it as I did Strange Highways..One of his best. A moral to be recognized and absorbed. A horror story with something to teach...How detrimental for us to have a conscious when we make decisions.Personally these are my favorite types of books by Dean Koontz. Although he can write the best of typical 'scare the pants off them' horror stories, the ones that have a moral core are the most memorable to me. Not all black and white, but with many shades of gray entwined in this one.Very fast paced..and hard to stop listening to until the end which was delightful. I say ,you must listen to this one...It's worth your time. As I have listened to or read all Dean koontz novels..Some were disappointing and left me feeling something was lost, but not many and this one is very good...like his older novels.

Amazing - typical Dean Koontz

As a long time fan of Dean Koontz I am constantly amazed at his creativity and capacity for inventing stories and characters. This latest work is vintage Koontz, fast-paced, intricately plotted and suspenseful. This is a great read and listen and the descriptions (including a particularly gruesome "second wound") may make you grimace or curl your hair but always entice you to keep listening. The main character's ongoing love of his comatose girlfriend is refreshing, heartwarming and may make the most cynical among us believe in true love.

KOONTS'S BEST

I am a late big fan of Koontz. I got into him with his Odd Thomas and have listened to most of his books. This one is by FAR the best. I must admit that Koonts is often verbose and bombastic, but not in this one. The turns are one after another after another, and all are believable.

Thought provoking and entertaining

The interviewer asked well-conceived questions, not the usual biographical trivia of a magazine (how many pets do you have?). It was interesting to hear how Mr Crichton came upon his intial subject, and how during subsequent research his opinions and conceptions of even larger issues were changed. I highly recommend listening to this interview before or after reading the book "State of Fear", or simply for its entertaining and thought provoking insight on how Mr Crichton develops a new book.

Excellent!

A very informative and balanced interview with Michael Crichton on his book "State of Fear", but it really goes much deeper than that. Insight is given into how the book came about and also the life decision and conclusions that Crichton arrived at after 3 years of his own intense research. Highly recommended!!

EASILY as good as Grisham

Okay, so Meltzer is an okay novelist. He's no Tolstoy, no Hemmingway, but he's easily the equal of John Grisham or Scott Turow, his contemporaries in this genre. I found this book to be interesting and adequately written. It certainly held my interest over many miles of highway driving. Scott Brick's reading was an asset, for sure. I recommend this one if you enjoy an easy read/listen while you're driving.

Possibly the best Meltzer to date

With "The Millionaires," Meltzer is finally hitting his stride. I like the way that he devises intricate plots within plots; but most of all, I enjoy his insider knowledge. In some of his other novels, like "The Tenth Justice," "The First Counsel," and "The Zero Game," Meltzer displays his (apparently) first-hand knowledge of Beltway politics. That impresses me enough; but, with "The Millionaires," Meltzer shows that he also knows a lot about high-level banking ??? and computers ??? and DisneyWorld! See if you can put those elements together. Never mind: "The Millionaires" has an ingenious plot that you will never guess. I recommend purchasing this audiobook, along with most of Meltzer's other audiobooks, with only two minor caveats: First, you should know that most of Meltzer's characters seem to be running on anger and hysteria, which annoys me a little, since I prefer it when my heros stay cool under pressure. Second, Scott Brick narrates all of Meltzer's audiobooks. Yeah, I know: Everybody else loves Scott Brick's narrations. And, I have to admit, Brick can definitely act. He has lots of accents and enough voices to distinguish the characters. It's just that VOICE. But never mind those minor quibbles. If you like thrillers, you will enjoy "The Millionaires."

Top 5 in my book

I have been an audio book reader for 5 years now. I get through about 2-3 unabridged audio books each month. I enjoyed this book so much that I was disappointed as I came to the end of it. The author has a great sense of humour and the reader is simply a GREAT match for the text.
