    Vertical Run
A non stop action thriller that will keep you guessing. It is well read and acted by Stephen Lang and rates as one of the best audio books I have ever heard, and is an excellent abridgement of the book.
    Great Book...but Audible blew it.
Would you try another book from Joseph R. Garber and/or Stephen Lang?
    Yes - Yes
Great narrator. He was not the problem.
Who was your favorite character and why?
    Marge
How could the performance have been better?
Audible butchered this story through its abridging....almost shameful. My wife happened to be reading the book as I listened to it and without her, I would not of known the true ending. No spoiler, but the book ends with the contents of a memo which wraps up the entire ending and alludes to the whereabouts and/or fate of three characters. Audible abridged it so poorly, they cut out the details for two of the characters and only gave you the fate of the main character....horrible job. Leaves you wondering and a little confused at the end. Really leaves me suspect of audible and what I missed in other books. This book is being made to a movie and the mistake in the abridging will become even more apparent as more people read it and listen to it by Audible. REALLY disappointing.
Did Vertical Run inspire you to do anything?
Re-read other books that were abridged by Audible. The abridging in this one was REALLY careless.
    Any additional comments?
When abridging the text for the audible performance changes the core plot of the book, then its the listeners that get cheated. And this one cheated me.
    The absolute BEST!
I've read and re-read Vertical Run many times and believe this is the FINEST audio book ever produced. Stephen Lang brings tension and dark humor to the novel that I find positively captivating.
Joseph Garber is a bit like Thomas Harris, in that he isn't a prolific writer. But his writing makes me want this story to continue (he left the door open for that possibility) and to read any future books.
I could not recommend this book more highly. A+++!
    This one is GREAT
Keeps your interest from start to finish. Want to read other books by this author.
    A tight page-turner!
I haven't heard the audiobook, but I read the paperback a few years ago. The book took me on a great ride, and I didn't want to stop reading until the last page. I am looking forward to his new book "Whirlwind" to come to audio format.

    Aggravating!
I love Ludlum, and this does NOT flow like this late great author. It's ponderous, patronizing, and pathetic! Obviously Gayle Lynds does not have what it takes to pull this off. The plot is obvious and aggravating. There's nothing like listening to highly trained spies whine! Please, do yourself a favor and listen to earlier Ludlum and stay away from this bomb.
    Excellent
I found this book excellent. The story and the narrative entralled me. I absolutely loved it. After the begining, I thought that the story would end on a depressing note, but it did not. In fact, it made me eager to hear the next book by this author. And I absolutely loved the narrator, something I've never before felt. His voice was mesmorizing.
    Great Ludlum outstanding narrator
The prologue grabs your curiosity immediately and chapter one starts the action. You know it is fiction because some of the things Dr. Smith and his team get into and out of are just a little over the edge. But not so much that you want to turn it off.
I found myself sitting in my car unable to leave without putting on my headset so that I could continue listening on my walk from the parking lot to the office. Jason bourne was my first Ludlum character, but Dr. Smith and his team are fabulous. There is a lot of detail and description and the narrator's cammand of voices and accents makes it very interesting. I was so relieved to find two more from this series in the Audible library. As soon as I finished The Hades factor I went right on line to look for more in this series.
OK story but way too wordy
This is my first encounter with Ludlum. The story was exciting but the whole thing seemed to just go on and on. By the end of the novel, I thought I began to catch where each of the authors ended and the other started. There's a lot of description that struck me as being overblown.
The reading was well-done for the most part. The brit started to sound a lot like Cary Grant as it went along, though.
All in all I found the book OK but I'm not jumping into the rest of the series. I may try another Ludlum to see if this excess wordiness is unique to working with a co-author.
    classic listen
i loved this book! it's been a long time since i've read this author, so i decided to listen to one of his books. ludlum is a genious! if you like his style, you'll love this book. it's got a very unique plot and the reader is exceptional.

    Abridged? .... Really?
I really like this book, but I HATE books that are abridged. Pity, cause it is a good book.
    Thumbs Up
The book kept moving at a very good pace, never a lull in the action. It is similar to other serial killer mystery type books as far as the way events occur, but that's to be expected. There weren't any "unbelievable" characters or events as in other books with supercops or superkillers if you know what I mean. It is only a 5 hour book and it went really fast.
The only problem I had with it was the female reader. It was difficult, especially in the beginning to determine which character was speaking. A few times I had to go back and figure it out. She didn't vary voices often enough, as I've heard other readers do. She did read with enthusiasm though which kept me interested the entire time. Overall, I thought it was very good.
audio sounds like it was recorded over the phone
Really was a struggle to get into. When the "twists" in the story came about I was confused and quickly realized that I didn't care what was happening
    Good, easy read with twists
Overall I liked the book. I've read it twice, the first time in my preteens and now I'm my thirties. On the second go around some of it seemed a stretch and it leans heavily on romance and introspection on feelings compared to other suspense novels. Despite this it is not a predictable plot and I love how the characters weave in and out of the books on this series.
    Awful audio
While the book is great, as usual, the audio is terrible. It sounds like it sound like a poor recording done in a closet. It's reminiscent of a landline telephone audio from the 80's. It's incredibly difficult to listen to without focusing on the subpar audio. If it wasn't #2 in a series I'd delete it and request a refund. I'm disappointed.

I'm returning and buying the actual book!
Oh my goodness did this narrator listen to the first book at all? This bubbly tone is so not the Character, just as Rudd (Narrator of first book) Portrayed Emma, She is Mature, thirty something savvy New Yorker, not this college aged sounding airhead that this reader is making her into.
So dissatisfied,I really enjoyed the narration of the previous book however, before you waste a credit... sample this one. If you listened and met Emma before...You will totally understand my frustration...who assigned this narrator to crime fiction anyway?! Errr
    Emma the Sweeheart Killer
Emma is a delightfully charming bad girl. The storyline is so very important that u want to make sure u choose the correct narrator. Kate Rudd is one of my favorite narrators. Carly Robins voice is a tad bit to fast for this character , its the only reason I can't give a total of 5 's .
deadlines may have rushed this second book out however character history is a cool calm collected woman & the narration is making her sound...down right nutters. I think I have a wee bit of an headache at first. I tried slowing down her pace a bit but nothing made Carly Robins voice fit the Natelli Barelli profile Kate Rude laid the foundation for.
IDK I try to not rate a book if I cant gv more then three stars? This is an entirely diffrent story because the writing is so exquisite. The storyline is phenomenal and an overall 5 read. It depends on your tolerance level.
if u can tolerate the narrator thru the 1st couple chapters then you will be fine. Then again opinions R like butts..we all have one. Great story...a lil undecided on the narration. I'm still out to lunch on that , at the moment.
Absolutely great novel, the writing is astounding. If there is a book lll please grab Kate Rudd back for estounding Emma.
Ok, so I'm back from my lunch break (nap)on the narrator. It turns out ...We hv one of thoughs & dislike relationships going on here. SMH... it turnes out I'm back to the audiobook version refusing to continue to ebook this...
Carly Robins sounds like she slowed down, right around the 15th chapter (maybe it was just a hard read) ....lol so I am forced to give her 4 's.

FINALLY, GILLIAN FLYNN & GIRL ON THE TRAIN have
a book that is in the same league! I have returned more than a few books for "false advertising " by claiming that their book compares to GILLIAN FLYNN and GIRL ON THE TRAIN.
    It became my pet peeve.
This book was a "one sitting" read for me.
    Interesting clever twists
Started off a tad slow but unwound into a story far different than normal. Love the ending; could easily be picked back up and continued. Makes you imagine several possible endings!
    Didn't love it.
I can see what this author was trying to convey clearly but was not succeeding in the telling. This story was too transparent for my liking and the main character was made to look so gullible and stupid that I had to force myself to keep reading. I don't want to be rude but it was painfully obvious what the child was doing right from the very beginning. I wanted to scream by the time I got to the cabin at the seaside. Nice try though.
    The Murdering Kind
Oh my...is the last statement I made as this rememberable Frances Vick novel came to a close. Katherine Manners delightful narration made this story a breeze to the ears and not the horror thriller it would be if written for the big movie screen's.
Clair was a bit lonely and would have been better off befriending a gentleman friend....or would she?
    Probably not..?
I found myself liking Rabbit Girl too and I too like Clair would have been the fool too. I found myself wishing wishing she would take this little girl away from her horrible life. I too as this character on to take this girl take this little girl away from her life and show her how happy her life could be?
After all the title of the book is The Bad Girl...I wanted so much for Lonnna to have a good life.
I don't want to give away too much but some people just are not what they seem. Over all I gave this 4 1/2stars.. the half because I wanted Clair to at least have met a gentleman and have fallen in love and have kids of her own? I suppose, that's too much romance to ask for in a Thriller Novel?
This was definitely a fabulous book.

    Amazing Sci-fi YA
I loved this book! as someone who is fascinated in genetics, it really an interesting introduction to readers of the possibilities of this technology in such an enjoyable way. The author does a great job of keeping you engaged through out the whole book, even when she begins to explain the technical aspects of the world she created. This book even inspired me to learn how to code! Loved it!
Loved it! So, whens the next one?
If youre looking for a book with action, adventure, romance, and keeps you on edge not knowing what more the characters will uncover then this book is perfect for you. Definitely worth a listen or read. Great audible reader, so highly recommend the audible version for this one.
    An amazing Book
I good literally not put it down! This book so filled with so many twists, I was guessing the entire time. The characters were deep and the plot was clever. This story has been done before, but the author created it into something uniquely her own. I cant wait for the next book!!

    Light mystery
This was an ok book--good for light reading between more serious suspense/mysteries. It is worth the credit but certainly not the best around. I have read quite a few of her books in another series which I think I like better but this one wasn't bad. It took me awhile to get used to the narrator ( I thought she was going to ruin it for me) but once I did , she was ok.
Book 1 of new Jance series
I've read all the Beaumont and Johanna Brady books over the years-especially liked Beaumont's tough gritty cop and if you haven't read these now somewhat dated stories, they are still worth perusing.
I was interested in this new series and thought I'd try the first..and found it very enjoyable, written with Jance's usual tight plot intrigues and containing sufficient side story arcs to keep my interest as I recover from surgery..audio books are the best things for recovering in a nursing home where you share a room-can't sleep? Can't keep the light on all night? Get out the iPad and headphones and listen until you do fall asleep.
I've already purchased books 2 & 3 in the series, even though there are negative reviews, I want to make my own mind up about it.
    Reviews to come.

    Not Bad
    I'm trying out new authors.
Storyline not bad, some interesting characters introduced, I can't say I loved the book and couldn't put it down but it kept me intrigued .
I would like to continue with the next book in the serious to be able to give a proper review.
I do recommend giving this book a try if you are new to the author.
    Edge of Evil
Great read and we'll performance. Also great start to a new series. Can't wait to start the next one.
    Very Enjoyable
This is a very enjoyable story with well developed characters and plot. Jance does a good job of creating realistic characters in realistic situations. I look forward to reading the next book.

    Thank you
    Another flop
Bad, naive, predictable, arrogant. That's before Herb Fisher, Stuart Wods's alter ego shows up,,,down hill from there. Wish I skipped this one.
    Another great one....
Listening my through Stuart Woods/Stone Barrington books I haven't made time to read...Tony Roberts does a superb job narrating.
    Stand Up Guy
Enjoyed as much as his other books. Kept me interestested, although I thought I figured out Hank was the culprit before it became out.
    Disappointed
I have read or listened to every one of Stuart Woods books up til this point. I am a little disappointed in this story line as the character Stone Barrington is much to smart to have done the things in this book that he did. Hope this doesn't continue to happen to this character.

Richard Keith Taylor, the author, delivers a powerful tale that will hold listeners captivated. The story line is well-developed focusing on love, murder and the cause and effect rule in the future. Weaving his tale, Taylor plays on the emotions of his readers like a violin never missing a beat and keeping the suspense and action moving along steadily. His characters are well-developed and realistic. The plot twists are well delivered and timely.
The narrator, Paul Heitsch performed the audio book professionally drawing the listener in with his talented skills of giving each character a voice. The narration appeared to be natural and realistic. Heitsch is definitely a thriller type narrator. Excellently done, I hope to hear more works by him.

Every day for the past five years, they wonder where she is, if she is - Will's wife, Devlin's mother - because Rachael Innis vanished one night during an electrical storm on a lonely desert highway, and suspected of her death, Will took his daughter and fled.
Now, Will and Devlin live under different names in another town, having carved out a new life for themselves as they struggle to maintain some semblance of a family.
When, one night, a beautiful, hard-edged FBI agent appears on their doorstep, they fear the worst. But she hasn't come to arrest Will. "I know you're innocent," she tells him, "because Rachael wasn't the first...or the last."
Desperate for answers, Will and Devlin embark on a terrifying journey that spans 4,000 miles from the desert southwest to the wilds of Alaska, heading unaware into the heart of a nightmare, because the truth is infinitely worse than they ever imagined.

NOT THE PIECE OF COMFORT PIE YOU WERE LOOKING FOR
THE BEAUTIFUL THING ABOUT A 12 GAUGE, IS YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE A GREAT SHOT.
Extremely entertaining from start to finish. A strong female lead who may or may not be a good guy. A few twists and a mystery that needs solved. This book starts in Arizona goes through Canada and ends up in the middle of nowhere Alaska. It involves a family man lawyer, a former FBI agent, a teenager with Cystic Fibrosis, a rogue special forces group that goes bad, a truck driver and the Alaskan Mob. What's not to like? The rating is a little low in this because some women who didn't read the reviews and who had absolutely no idea what they were getting into rated the book. This is a shoot-em up mystery that involves lots of sex and violence and I don't believe the author has tried to hide that at anytime. It is also written by Blake Crouch, who is famous for this type of book.
    THE LEATHERING OF HER FACE
The book has flaws and is a little unbelievable in parts. A father taking his child into some very dangerous situations, one too many twists (as mentioned by other reviewers), people getting the crap beat out of them or frost bitten or chewed up by wolves and then coming back from the dead so to speak to kick ass (as mentioned by other reviewers). For me the entertainment value, the fast pace, the evil characters, and the real feeling of what it might be like to lose a loved one in this way, over shadowed the flaws and kept the book at a five star rating for me. I am really liking the books I have read by Crouch so far and will listen to more. I see too, I believe they have made a series on one of the channels about his Pines series. I hope to catch that.
Jeffrey Kafer does a great job and belongs in one of the top two tiers of narrators.
Some problems in story but gripping anyway
The storyline was a little hard to swallow but I literally didn't put the 'book' down until it was over. A lot of 'aww come on now" moments when people bounced back from horrific assaults to their bodies, or ventured into life threatening situations w no apparent fear but overall a fun gripping read.
    Better Than A Good Movie!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This audiobook is the best of Blake Crouch's I have listened to yet. The narration is outstanding as well.
