    this is no big finish
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
meh, it killed an hour. nothing more nothing less.
Would you ever listen to anything by Nigel Fairs again?
This feels like it's part 2 of another story. There was no introduction or explanation for where the characters were, how they got there, why they were there. I was lost from the beginning.
This felt like it was written by someone who had heard of Doctor Who but has never actually seen an episode before.
Have you listened to any of John Leeson and Lalla Ward s other performances before? How does this one compare?
they are both fine/ excellent as performers (duh!) sadly they were both wasted in this story.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
    nope
    Any additional comments?
stick with the big finish doctor who productions. They never disappoint.

I want more of the Great Detective!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This was a fun read for those out there that love Madame Vastra, Jenny Flint, and Strax. I am really hopping to see more books about them or even perhaps a spin off show.
What other book might you compare Doctor Who: The Devil in the Smoke to and why?
This is a light read. Fun, entertaining, but something that even a child could listen to. I don't know exactly what other books I would compare it too.
Have you listened to any of Dan Starkeys other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have not listened to any of Dan Starkey's other performances, but I loved his narration!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes I listened to this book all in one sitting. Then I listened to it again the next day just for fun while I was cleaning the house.
    Any additional comments?
I loved this fun and entertaining book!
    great short story
good little novella. hope to find more. should be at lower price I think.
    Great Story. Poor Audio.
What disappointed you about Doctor Who: The Devil in the Smoke?
Wonderful performance from Dan Starkey. The quality of the audio is very poor however.
Which character as performed by Dan Starkey was your favorite?
    Strax
    Any additional comments?
If I had known the sound was as bad as it is I would have bought it from iTunes instead.
    Not Bad
Nice listen but could have been better, good narration. But no Doctor. It's an adventure with his friends from the 10th Doctor, A Silurian and a Sontaran.
Wonderful, wish they would make a TV show!
Best spin off from Dr Who yet, wish they would make these into Tv shows, the characters are instantly likable and it retains the Dr Who feel without having the dr in it! Really good listen

Doctor Elehri Mussurana has spent a lifetime on her work. She's guarded her pet project close to her chest, letting only one person share her secret - her husband and lab partner Ernst Wharner. As their experiment reaches its final, glorious fruition, they watch in awe as sparks fly in a sealed chamber and specks of sapphire light begin to join together into a shining haze. A wormhole in time and space is being created....
But then something unexpected appears inside the swirling vortex: a tall blue box with the words "Police Public Call Box" on the side. The Tardis has arrived in the far future, in a scientific research facility - just as reality is ripped at the seams and the universe tears in two....
Written specially for audio by Scott Handcock, Snake Bite features the Doctor, Amy, and Rory as played by Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, and Arthur Darvill in the acclaimed BBC TV series. It is read by Frances Barber, who played Madame Kovarian.

    THIS IS NOT SNAKE BITE
    Any additional comments?
This is NOT Snake Bite - it is Doctor Who: The Angel's Kiss. The Preview that plays is correct, but when downloaded, the audiobook is for The Angel's Kiss. :-(
This is not the right book
What disappointed you about Doctor Who: Snake Bite?
This is Miss Malone, read by the woman who plays Dr Song. It has nothing to do with Dr Who and snakes.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Hopefully the actual book I paid for.
What didnt you like about Frances Barbers performance?
    Wasn't her. Don't know.
You didnt love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
    Um, no.
    Any additional comments?
Wrong book. I will read reviews from now on. Same thing in iTunes with this particular title.
    WRONG BOOK
What would have made Doctor Who: Snake Bite better?
Actually getting the book i requested!
What could Scott Handcock have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
he didn't stuff up - audible did!
    Any additional comments?
ITS THE WRONG BOOK - purchase this and you will be given melody's kiss!
Finally Fixed! This is Snake Bite!
    Any additional comments?
The audio book is finally fixed and is the correct story. (At least when I re-downloaded it yesterday.)
Frances Barber does a good job of imitating both the Doctor (Matt Smith) and Rory (Arthur Darvill), and as thus far done the best imitation of Amy (Karen Gillan) that I've heard with any of the 11th Doctor audio books.
The story is very well written and beautiful read by Barber, several of the scenes made my skin crawl as I was listening to it. Everyone is written in character and it feels like a Doctor Who story.
The only complaint I have was the story felt to be lacking something. At times it feels too rushed while other times seem to be longer than they need too. If the story could have been allowed to take it's time and be more in-depth than it was, possibly doing a two disc story, this could easily be one of my favorites.
Oh where oh where has snake bite gone!
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
When will snake bite be fixed. I already have Angel's Kiss. I paid for a book and got one i already have.

    Members Reviews:
    Daleks!
The Daleks always make a good Doctor Who story. It's hard to screw up the Daleks. And when you've got the actual voice of the Daleks doing the reading, it's even better. I could care less what the story was actually about just because Nick Briggs was reading it.
The story was good, though, I feel like the Daleks have lost a bit of their high-end enemy status with a few of the latest episodes. Prisoner of the Daleks brings back all of the horror, viciousness, and brutality that the Doctor's oldest enemy should have. Very well done.
    Memorable.
The Daleks are scary again and the characters are well-developed in this fast-paced thriller. Nicholas Briggs has a real handle on the atmosphere and timing. Has enough twists to keep the story unpredictable, but not so many that it seems contrived. Perfect blend of classic era storytelling and "Nu Who" excitement. The Doctor is in top form. This is one of those audiobooks that you might end up listening to more than once.
Tired of the sunny disposition of th Walking Dead?
This book wasnt for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Anyone who enjoyed The Day After or otherwise needs some additional motivation to leap off a building.
What was most disappointing about Trevor Baxendales story?
75% of this book is an elongated dissertation of torture, humiliation and needless violence, contributing little or nothing to the story arc itself. The first and last parts of the story would have been a good story alone. One can only assume an editor talked a writer into expanding a short story into a novel. A writer with no sense of humor and a penchant for poking puppies and kittens with a stick.
    Any additional comments?
For me, the Doctor represents the best combination of intelligence, wit and compassion. This novel references none of those admirable qualities.
    Oh, Come now!
Would you consider the audio edition of Doctor Who: Prisoner of the Daleks to be better than the print version?
All you Time Lords looking to expand on the Daleks, might want to check this out. The reviews were good so I took this on, and was quite pleased. It is a bit muckity muck starting but the second half of the book flies. The Doctor's beliefs are very torn in his actions and you see a deeper side of him through this. No spoilers here, mates, you should check it for yourself. I gave the performance five stars because he does have the doctor spot on. Well played my friend, well played indeed...
    Gripping from start to finish
I can't really decide whether this is brilliantly written or brilliantly read.

    Classic Sci Fi
What can I say? The Fourth Doctor Tom Baker in a story by Douglas Adams, this is classic science fiction! I'm a fan of the audio stories Tom Baker has been doing to keep the Fourth Doctor very much alive and well. While searching for one of those stories I came across The Pirate Planet written by Douglas Adams of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy fame. Now this is basically the episodes that aired on TV with some added narration to help explain some of the made for TV action so if you have seen these episodes then you have heard this episode minus the new added narration. This story has humor and action the way only Douglas Adams could cram together and it has Tom Baker who is arguably the best Doctor. This also includes a sort of interview after the story is over. I'm just a big Tom Baker as Dr. Who fan as well as a Hitchhikers fan, if you are too then you're gonna enjoy the hell out of this audio recording of Doctor Who: The Pirate Planet.
    Good as on TV!
I watched this on TV and it was pretty good! The narration didn't detract ONE bit from its original interest!

    Publisher's Summary:
Thrown off course by a howling storm, the TARDIS lands in a bleak, desolate stretch of countryside. The Doctor deduces that it has arrived in Hampshire in the 1920s and, sniffing the air, he smells a distinct odour of sulphur - indicating that a spaceship has crashed in the area. While Rory goes to fetch an umbrella, Amy and the Doctor brave the rain to find the stricken craft. It is huge, shiny, silvery-blue - and completely empty. A set of footprints leads to a cosy-looking, old-fashioned cottage: but the house, too, is deserted. However, the Doctor and Amy can distinctly hear people talking - and one of the voices sounds like Rory's.
How could he be in the cottage when he was last seen heading back to the TARDIS? Where are the residents of the empty house? And what has happened to the inhabitants of the spaceship?
Raquel Cassidy reads this exclusive audio adventure featuring the Eleventh Doctor, Amy, and Rory.

    Too good but too short
It is hard to decide if I got my money's worth. I love Dr. Who and enjoyed this audiobook but it just seemed too short. It was like having an audible episode of Doctor Who, wrapped up in an hour or so. I'm not sure if I really cared for the background sounds but overall the narrator did a pretty good job.
    A bit simple--but fun
Is there anything you would change about this book?
I saw the plot twist coming from the beginning--but the Doctor and Amy were well done.
Would you ever listen to anything by Simon Guerrier again?
Yes--he understand the characters but could use a more complicated plot--though this is a very short book. Really just an hour episode.
What does Raquel Cassidy bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
She does a great job with all the characters.
Was Doctor Who: The Empty House worth the listening time?
    Yes--not my favorite but good.
    Empty Calories
What disappointed you about Doctor Who: The Empty House?
Truly a zero of a story. Revolving around the characters being on different planes and a forced sense of urgency with no threat. Good performance with no story.
Has Doctor Who: The Empty House turned you off from other books in this genre?
No, not everything can be gold, I appreciate other quality books all the more.
    Which scene was your favorite?
    No one scene stands out
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Doctor Who: The Empty House?
Not cut, added a creature in their bubble to add a sense of danger.
    Any additional comments?
I would spend credits on alternate Dr WHO books, this would be a last resort
    It started out good
Is there anything you would change about this book?
    I would change the "twist."
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
I think that having a different reason for the house being "empty" would have make the story more enjoyable. I wanted to be wowed.
What aspect of Raquel Cassidys performance would you have changed?
I think she did I fine job.
    Any additional comments?
It was alright but it didn't have that "ooh" moment where there's a twist and you are astonished, excited, and pleased.

The TARDIS materialises on board a dark and silent spaceship. As the Doctor, Susan, Ian, and Barbara penetrate the craft's eerie gloom, they come across what appears to be the bodies of two dead astronauts. But the astronauts are far from dead and are living in mortal fear of the Sensorites, a race of telepathic creatures from the Sense-Sphere. When the lock of the TARDIS is stolen, the Doctor is forced into an uneasy alliance with the aliens. And when he arrives on the Sensorites' planet he discovers that it is not only the Humans who have cause to be afraid....
William Russell, who played the Doctor's companion Ian in the original TV serial, reads Nigel Robinson's complete and unabridged novelisation, first published in 1987.
    Members Reviews:
    Typical book adaptation
Not bad, not great....just okay. It is a typical adaptation of one of the earlier shows that ran on the BBC. If you are a completest or just have had no way to watch the old series then this is not a bad option. If you are expecting more insight into the plot or the characters than was given in the series then you will be disappointed. It's basically just the episode "The Sensorites" on paper.
Lacklustre science fiction story improved by novelisation
This story had the questionable privilege of introducing some of the least threatening aliens in the history of Doctor Who! However, their civilisation doesn't make a lot of sense.
The TARDIS arrives on a human spaceship orbiting the planet Sense-Sphere. The crew of the ship appear to be dead, but turned out to be paralysed by the Sensorites, who are the natives of the planet. Given the unthreatening and occasionally comical appearance of these aliens, the big build up to their arrival is somewhat amusing.
All is not well on Sense-Sphere. The Sensorites are dying from a mysterious plague that only started after a previous human expedition. The Doctor is obliged to assist them in curing the plague in order to regain the TARDIS lock, which the Sensorites have removed (at this early point in the program's history, the crew were depicted as travellers who end up having adventures rather than actually seeking them out, so there is always a reason why they can't leave). The seeking of a cure becomes even more desperate when Ian succumbs to the plague...
One advantage that Nigel Robinson has in novelising this story is that the reader's imagination will establish better sets and props than were present in the televised story. However, in writing a straightforward novelisation, he is inevitably tied to the political intrigue plot line, which all hangs off the ludicrous proposition that the Sensorites are so physically identical that even they themselves can't tell each other apart except for variations in clothing.
I say: a good attempt given the original material he had to work with.
Another mystery solved by the Doctor
First, the bad. The writer had some limits by the script that was being adapted. Second, the idea of aliens that are so identical that the can only be differentiated (even by their own species) by their clothes, is pretty far fetched.
The good... Splendid story that provides good characterisation that makes the book readable even by non-Who fans.

    Jack's Story Continues
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Joseph Lidster is a seasoned writer who has a deep understanding of the Torchwood characters. His other books Lost Souls, In the Shadows and his script for the episode A Day in the Death combines action with a grasp of the evolving psychological complexity of the characters and their histories: especially Jack Harkness. The story line pulls the mythic elements from classics like Dante's Inferno and The Wizard of Oz in its structure, yet keeps the science fiction aspects strong. There is enough of Jack's back story to catch up the new listener, and enough development to intrigue the Torchwood fan. I hope to see more from Lidster to keep Torchwood alive until the next series or movie.
What didn???t you like about John Telfer???s performance?
John Telfer has done an excellent job on other audiobooks. However, he doesn't get the American accent and pacing right for Captain Jack Harkness. This is important because the focus is on Jack the entire time. The accent was so distracting to me that I would rather get the book and read it using my memory of John Barrowman's performances to recreate the sound of the character in the story.
    Really Boring
Is there anything you would change about this book?
The basic story was rather uninteresting. Barely hung in to hear the end.
Which character as performed by John Telfer was your favorite?
    Captain Jack
Did Torchwood: Red Skies inspire you to do anything?

Good message but could be more subtle
Where does Torchwood: Red Skies rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
This audiobook ranks in the upper half of my personal chart but not at the very top.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
I would not change the story because I'm not the one who wrote it and I'm very bad at creative writing, so if I changed it, I'd probably make it worse. But as an avid consumer I would not mind the ideas promoted by this book to be expressed in a subtler way, so that the author doesn't seem like an authoritative figure who knows best what is right for the reader and pushes the reader in the right direction rather forcefully. I completely agree to follow the author's direction of my own free will.
