Totally had me on the edge of my seat!
I sat down to read for five minutes and didn't even notice how much time passed before I'd read five chapters of this book. I was hooked from the beginning. I finished the whole book in less than a day.
If you're a sharp cookie, you might figure out some of the plot elements before they're revealed, but don't let that ruin the experience. It didn't for me. There were enough other intriguing elements keeping me turning pages all the way to the last.
I loved the characters and the little details the author included, especially via memories, which really grounded the relationships in the story and gave it so much more depth and flavor. As with Where Stars Still Shine, this story has an incredibly well-developed setting, and an unusual one for a Florida vacation!

Brilliant writing! I got this book due to the catchy title and cover and I was engrossed reading it. Although it's Young Adult, it was actually surprisingly and deliciously steamy, and a very fun and exciting thriller that grabbed me and wouldn't let me go. The plot was very well handled, the characters unique, relatablable, sometimes funny, sometimes heartwarming, always exquisitely human and understandable. The descriptions were so realistic I could breathe in the setting and feel it with my senses. I loved it so much, I would reread it in an instant. I am definitely recommending this to my friends and family.
    You love all the characters
I am a huge fan of suspense/ psychological thrillers, and find it very hard to find ones where I don't guess the plot one chapter in. This book actually kept my attention, even if I guessed a few things, it had enough twists and was well written. You love all the characters, and are almost upset when you find out who is behind all of the madness. I like the whole "wolf in Sheeps clothing" aspect. The fact that this is something that could happen, makes it more of a "creepy" read. Good creepy of course. ;)
    Trish Doller did it again!
I loved this book, just like I loved her other two. Trish has a way with words that keeps you captivated! I can't wait to see what she has in store for her next book!!!!
    Not too scary
Great story, give you pause on trusting strangers. Realistic characters and glad Arcadia was okay at the end.

Another awesome book by chris b!
I've read Chris Bradford's books before and the young samurai series and I loved loved loved it! I loved those young samurai series so much that I read it three times and it's entirety. I didn't know what to expect going into the bodyguards series but the first book was amazing and the second book was also awesome. The books have some adult themes, like violent death and physical trauma, but they also carry the running theme that if it first you don't succeed you make yourself better so that the next time you'll come out on top and that's a really great mantra to live by. I love the books and I'll keep reading the series I only wish that the other bodyguards series books were on audible.

    Publisher's Summary:
A seven-year-old girl has been bludgeoned to death and buried in a pile of leaves. Although the police have no leads, they are pressured to close the case as soon as possible. So they call in a master interrogator to question 12-year-old Jason, the victim's friend and the last person to see her alive. Although Jason is innocent, he is shy, insecure, and wants to give answers that will satisfy everyone. As the questioning becomes more subtle and probing, the interrogator's goal soon shifts from finding justice to gaining a quick confession from the boy.
Robert Cormier's award-winning books include I Am the Cheese and The Chocolate War. This is the final work he completed before his death in November 2001. It is a gripping examination of the powers of suggestion and a dark vision of how easily the seeds of evil can be planted. Scott Shina's narration conveys both the boy's innocence and the cloud of suspicion that grows around him.

' I would recommend Mr. Cormier's books to 7th grade and up
I'd read an article where the author mentioned having read Mr. Cormier's book during childhood. I found the book, aside from being well written, tells a cautionary tale without any 'icing on the top.' I would recommend Mr. Cormier's books to 7th grade and up.
    Five Stars
    Love it, amazing product!
Exploring the Human Condition with R. Cormier
When seven-year-old Alicia Bartlett is mysteriously murdered, Trent, a relentless ace investigator for the police department, finds himself faced with a difficult and irresistible moral decision. Is it worth the risk to sacrifice truth for the sake of his impeccable reputation? As Trent interviews Jason, a thirteen-year-old friend of the victim and the last person to see her alive, he questions whether or not the innocent, naive boy, too, is expendable. With no clues as to the identity of the murderer, Trent's hard-earned, perfect record of criminal confessions is in danger. But young Jason has even more to lose.
Concisely and subtly, yet effectively and without didacticism, Cormier bravely poses a question facing the human condition: what price would one pay for success, love, and reputation? In this dark novel, the protagonist struggles against himself. The reader is afforded a glimpse of the same "foul rag and bone shop of the heart" of humanity that Trent claims to visit in each criminal he interrogates. The backdrop settings, from the freshness of a sunny and carefree early-summer vacation day, to the sweltering confines of the tortuous interrogation room, are highly effective in reinforcing the chacterization and heightening the tension of the plot. The unexpected denouement is thought-provoking and alarming. This novel may not be for everyone, though. Raw emotional brutality is part of the plot and may be too frank and offensive to some readers.
    Good read
This book kept me intrigued the entire time. Great and easy read for adults and young adults alike. Very suspenseful.
    A stunning, deeply troubling book
Note: The vote on this review was made by a troll-creature intent on harassing me. The vote does not reflect the book at all!
I read "The Rag and Bone Shop" with a deepening sense of dread. In this his last novel, Robert Cormier uses a brilliant economy of words to create a crescendo of dread and fear. The premonition that terrible things will happen hangs heavy in every word.

When hackers can hijack any cellphone or computer webcam, no one is safe - including Jesse.
Jesse seems like a normal sixteen-year-old, but he isn't. He is a victim of King - a ruthless hacker who has been blackmailing Jesse with incriminating screen photos and videos. So far, Jesse's given in to King's demands in order to protect his family. But now King wants something that's too horrible to contemplate - and if he doesn't get it, King will kill Jesse's little sister.
Terrified and helpless, the answer to Jesse's prayers arrives in the form of a plain manila envelope. Inside there's a phone number and a note: I can help.
    Members Reviews:
    An excellent but disturbing story
Watched was both an excellent and painful book to read. Let me start by saying that the book is so much more than cyberbulling. It deals with incredibly dark topics, including rape and sexual blackmail of underage children/teenagers. That's the premise of the story. While it's not explicit in the sense that it doesn't narrate any rape or sexual abuse happening, it's mentioned often and is the underlying theme of the story. If that's something you absolutely can't stand to think about, then this book isn't for you. That said, I feel like it's an important read.
The book follows two characters - Jesse and Miranda. Jesse had been blackmailed by a man he calls "King" for a number of years, and part of his blackmail includes King allowing Jesse's uncle to rape him and film it so that King can sell it to his clients. If Jesse doesn't comply with King's demands, King has threatened to kill Jesse's mother and little sister.
What makes this even creepier (if that's even possible) is the fact that King can see and hear everything. In the age we live in, with the internet and cell phones being so popular, King can hack into just about anything. He watches Jesse through computer cameras and listens to him through his cell phone. He knows where he lives, what he's doing, what he's saying, and who he's with always. That's beyond terrifying.
Jesse eventually gets a note from an anonymous stranger that says "I can help you" and contains a cellphone. After calling the phone, Jesse talks to Miranda, another one of King's victims who is intent on saving as many of King's victims as she can. Jesse and Miranda come up with a plan to catch and expose King, while keeping their families safe.
Of course, that's easier said than done, considering how smart King is, and how much power he has in terms of knowing his way around the internet and his hacking abilities. I won't say too much, but the reason I didn't give the book five stars is because I felt like the ending was a little too convenient. It's so outlandish that it seems so impossible that it would all fall into place so smoothly. That took away from the story a little bit for me, but otherwise, I felt like this book was incredibly powerful.
What really got me was the excerpt from the author at the end of the book. She says that she wrote the book based on a real case of a girl who committed suicide after being "capped" and cyber bullied. That breaks my heart that something like that is possible.

DJ is David McLean's eldest grandson, so it stands to reason that he be the one to scatter his beloved grandfather's ashes. At least that's how DJ sees it. He's always been the best at everything - sports, school, looking after his fatherless family - so climbing Kilimanjaro is just another thing he'll accomplish almost effortlessly. Or so he thinks, until he arrives in Tanzania and everything starts to go wrong. He's detained at immigration, he gets robbed, his climbing group includes an old lady and he gets stuck with the first ever female porter. Forced to go polepole (slowly), DJ finds out the hard way that youth, fitness level and drive have nothing to do with success on the mountain - or in life.

    Great book
    Mountain Climbing Kilimanjaro
This is the second book I have read in this series that proposes that its books can be read in any order. I chose this book because it was about the brother of the boy in the first book I read, Lost Cause. I have to say I probably enjoyed this one more, though they are quite different books; Lost Cause being very historical and Walters' book is pure adrenaline outdoor adventure. About mountain climbing, DJ, the eldest grandson at 17 years old is quested to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Full of action, before he even hits the foothills, DJ is arrested on suspicion of drug smuggling and later has his belongings stolen by street kids. The mountain climb is exciting and will mostly appeal to boys owing to a marked emphasis on altitude sickness and the accompanying abdominal irregularities. There is very little connection with this book and the other grandsons' quests occurring in the accompanying books; Lost Cause had much more interaction, naturally leading me to this book about DJ. From this book there is no discernible suggestions as to which book would make a likely next choice so I'll just pick whichever takes my fancy at the library. As to the author, I have not read Walters before. I always get Canadian authors Eric Walters and Eric Wilson (whom I *have* read many of his teen mysteries) mixed up so I wasn't sure which one this was until I looked at his bio. I really enjoyed the writing style though and would like to try his other work as he is quite lauded for his books aimed at male teen readers.
    Great start to new series
Orca's The Seven Series gives us seven authors each writing the story of one of David McLean's grandsons. During the reading of David's will, four of his daughters and six of his grandsons learn that David left letters instructing each grandson to complete a task. At the same time, they learn there was another daughter and another grandson. This book follows the oldest grandson, DJ, as he journeys from Toronto to Tanzania and attempts to summit Mount Kilimanjaro. There DJ is to scatter some of his grandfather's ashes which are stored in the handle of David's cane. DJ is likeable but overly confident; he expects to take just two days to summit the mountain and another to descend. There is lots of action and good information about how conditions at high altitudes affect the human body. I appreciated the story line about females not being able to work as porter and the young girl who wormed her way into such a position for the climb. DJ experiences loneliness, despair, and exhileration, all within a few days.

    A Horse Whisperer's Story
This is a teen/adult book and as an adult I enjoyed the series very much not because of the teen love affairs and clique-behaviors, but for one thing, because through Vivienne's eyes we got to understand the key characters. The author did a great job creating characters who all have different and interesting backgrounds that somehow play a role in Vivienne's story.
This is a story of Vivienne, a country girl and daughter of a veterinarian who is an excellent rider and is given a scholarship to attend a topnotch training school, Fairmont, and then another scholarship to attend a prestigious summer program at Liberty Farms. And although she learns quite a bit, the experience there turns out to be overwhelming with new discoveries about her life, an attempt on her life, a surprising new love, and with the horse's help and others, solving of a murder mystery. She has a secret which she only shares with her mother. She can communicate with horses. This is the part I love best.
I've read all three books and enjoyed the whole series. Although I read more sophisticated books, I can enjoy a book like this with mystery, humor, and strange events like 'horse whispering!'
Horsemanship and murder - a great combination!
I was bummed when Dick Francis stopped writing, but this teenage murder mystery is a nice bit of horse/murder fluff for a summer weekend beach read. Set in an exclusive boarding riding academy, giving the story line an interesting twist (didn't know these existed), it acts as a good location to set up all the teenage angst for the secondary story line (poor girl makes good in rich kids' world and finds true love). Excellent eventing and horsemanship descriptions (heck I will use this just hacking around on trail rides). There are enough twists to keep your interest, but if you're an adult, you will enjoy the elite rider stuff way more than the murder/teen drama.
    Great story!
First, the good part of my review. I LOVE this story. I couldn't put it down. The characters, the plot, the unusual bits that I haven't seen in other books so far. All of it, amazing.
Now, for the bad part of my review. The book wasn't edited very well.

Think Mary, Kat, and Lillia have nothing left to lose? Think again. The fiery conclusion to the Burn for Burn trilogy from New York Times best-selling author Jenny Han and Siobhan Vivian. They only meant to right the wrongs. It was about getting even. Burn for burn.
But the fire they lit kept raging. Reeve ended up hurt, then Rennie ended up dead. Everything will turn to ash if they dont stop what they started. But now that Mary knows the truth about what happened to her, will she want to? Secrets drew Lillia, Kat, and Mary together. The truth might tear them apart.
    Members Reviews:
Not my favorite in the trilogy
Would you listen to Ashes to Ashes again? Why?
No. This is not my favorite book of the trilogy. The last few chapters saved this book for me. Overall I really like the series. I finished all three books in a few days.
What I Liked and Disliked: I did not love the ending of the book, but understand it had to end that way for it to be realistic. Still something in me wanted Lillia and Reeve to work things out. He truly loved her, and was a changed man because of her. He made mistakes, like most young people make. I thought Mary trying to teach him a lesson was too extreme. I did like that Alex (the "nice guy" for once finished first) got the girl in the end. Him and Lillia were meant to be after all, that was evident from the beginning.
Kat, is still my favorite character. Im glad her and Pat got out of Jar Island. Glad she went to NY and her life seemed to improve. I teared up when Shepp was killed and her father passed away. I was happy to see that Lillia, Alex and Reeve remained loyal friends to her.
I HATED Mary in this book. She was meek throughout the series which was meh and in this book she "finally found her voice". I thought this book really showed how immature she was. She was still that vulnerably 13 year old girl, who blamed everyone else for her mistakes. Yes, Reeve was in the wrong for teasing her, but Mary killed herself on a whim, she wasn't intending to do that when she went home. So I feel like the anger she felt for Reeve was unfounded. Im glad in the end she realized that she was the one who chose to end her life, and only she was responsible for the pain she caused. I thought Mary being a ghost was a good surprise. Even though ghost Mary was the most annoying character in history.
    Any additional comments?
I want more from this series, I would love a book that followed Kat and Pat in NY and Lillia and Alex in college. I would love to see Reeve continue to grow.
    Fantastic Narration!
Like the first two, I listened to the audiobook of this book and I think the performances on the audiobook make the book as good as it was. Madeline Maby, Joy Osmanski, and Rebekkah Ross do a fantastic job at narrating this book.
I thought this book was a perfect ending to the trilogy. Most of the loose ends were tied up at the end, and there was a cute lesson that the villan learns in the end. This book was probably my favorite book in the trilogy, however I am upset that the two characters I adore didn't end up together.

Disappointing ending to a squandered premise
I honestly dont know why I persisted with this series.
After a great debut, the second entry in the trilogy was lacklustre but Im nothing if not loyal to a series that I start.
Unfortunately my devotion wasnt rewarded with a stellar wrap up to the trilogy.
Dont Let Go continued with a ho-hum fugitive tale that had the characters constantly moving but the plot left standing still. This entry managed to be even less dynamic though, because the POV characters were together for most of the story this time.
Most disappointing is the utterly anti-climactic ending. The villains, new and old, ultimately present no real challenge for the protagonists. Honestly, the story could have been resolved in a similar fashion back in book one, so fruitless were the efforts of heroes in books two and three.
This review feels very harsh but as Ive paid for and sat through three books in nearly as many years, I think my scorn is justified.
I dont recommend Dont Let Go, nor the Dont Turn Around series to anyone.
