I can't wait to see what happens next - I can't remember the last time I was so eager to follow a story.

This episode follows the plot from the previous ones.

I love Diane, she's strong and I admire her capability to take care of Tremontaine the way she does.

This episode focused more on the other characters then on Diane and I hope that it'll change. I want more of her.

The plot is still intriguing and it makes me want to read the whole series in one sitting.

I'm really enjoying the series and I hope the next episode will keep me hooked to this world.

Delightful storytelling, episode after episode. Can't wait till a whole new storyline comes out in the fall. Beware of the Dutchess!

A truly interesting exploration of power

Deby Fredericks has created a very intriguing exploration of the idea of power in "Seven Exalted Orders."

There are two Kingdoms, Arkanost and Costera. In Arkanost, the mages have restricted the form of their power. The Seven Orders are there to ensure a system of checks and balances, ensuring that mages can't get too much power, and ensuring that no one order can take political control of the kingdom. In Costera, a mage is allowed to seize land and control their own serfs to their hearts' content.

Of course, the concept of power is contrasted delicately with the concept of freedom. In Arkanost, mages aren't free to do as they wish; in Costera, the same is true of commoners.

The characters Deby Fredericks places into this world try desperately to exist in a world where power and freedom are precariously balanced. Each character has their own motives, and the desire for power or freedom changes from character to character.

I found this novel to be almost completely engrossing. There's one change of a character's opinions that occurs very suddenly, but other than that I lost myself in the world of Ms. Frederick's characters. This has made for a rather droopy-eyed day at work, but it was worth it.

Pretty good

Despite the author almost driving me away with her own review i bought the book. So what did i think? I liked it. I thought it was well written with a well described and thought out world. The magic is fairly simple but interesting enough. I only had a few problems with the book and one doesnt have to do with content exactly.

The first and biggest is Ryamon, or more specifically how he acts around Valdira. I found myself cringing at times and found the other characters in the book far more interesting, though it did get better over time. Some people im sure wont have a problem with it but again.. ><

The second problem i had, and it did not affect the reviews rating, is that it is a single book. As i stated above i lkiked the world, i thought it was interesting. The story overall was as well with some good characters thrown in. Basically i think this could have been something better if made into a series, even just one more book. There are so many possibilities with the 7 orders, how they act together and other nations that it seems a waste to have only one book.

All in all i found it worth the $3 i spent.

Interesting

I completely agree with Bruce (3 star reviewer), but I suppose I am little more forgiving in my ratings.

Small number of reviews sometimes stop people from buying so decided to add my own.

Nicely written with some good characters. Little simplistic compared to more grander fantasy. Maybe because its about low ranking people and not 'movers and shakers' of that world.

It reads like a first book in the series with a promise of bigger things to come. I went to buy a book two... Uhm, it's a standalone.

Better than I thought

The author is unknown in the fantasy genre. Gave the book a shot because of Keith Michaelson. I've enjoyed some of his narration and this one didn't disappoint. His performance is solid.

The story was interesting with a good cast of characters. I sense a deep back story with several of the characters, which creates a larger feeling of awe in the world. Felt like the pacing was well done as well. Looking forward to the next installment...

awesome epic fantasy of Gods and magic!

This is a must read by a new author, can't wait for the sequel! The narrator really helps lend depth to each character, he puts me right in this magical world and does great accents. it's a good length, keeps your attention well and leaves you craving more, perfect for relaxing at home or a nice road trip.

Two Big Thumbs Up! Highly Recommended!

I was recommended this series by a good friend that loves fantasy books like I do and it did not disappoint at all. I have read a lot of book series (all of Brandon Sanderson's stuff, Patrick Rothfuss, Jim Butcher, Robert Jordan, Raymond E. Feist, etc., etc., etc.) and this one was fantastic. I like the style of writing and the way the story bounces between characters different points of view. The story isn't long and drawn out, like some authors (I am looking at you, Robert Jordan! R.I.P), but moves along at a nice pace and keeps you interested throughout. There is a lot of depth to the history and backstory, which I hope continues to be fleshed out in future books. My only gripe is that the books are not very long and I got through them too fast and was left wanting more. This book was a quick, fun read that kept me entertained throughout. I highly recommend this for anyone that likes fantasy books and is ready for a new story that is unique and different.

The characters have well-thought out strengths and weaknesses, there isn't much moral ambiguity to annoy me when reading this series, and they are paced well when it comes to how the plot is moved forward.

Definitely looking forward to seeing more in this series.

Where is the Cult of Yex?

I really enjoyed the first book - it was a solid mix of action, background stories and suspense. The second book spent a lot of time philosophizing and focused on character discussions, and didn't really have a grip on my interest. The third book isn't any more exciting; characters that you think are gone seem to come back again and again. The first book spends a lot of time talking up the 'Cult of Yex' as an epic force that threatens civilization, and yet book three still lacks an actual cult, or anything epic whatsoever.

Where is the cult of Yex? What civilization is it threatening? So far the story has just been about some kids looking for some moss that accomplishes what exactly? When I read a good fantasy novel I'm usually filled with questions that desperately need answers, but I don't have any in this series. There are four kids, a were-rat, and a bunch of mean hobbits (for lack of a better term). The books really have nothing to do with a 'Cult of Yex' or any grand force of evil at all. It might as well be a re-telling of the Goonies.

The Bootleggers Have All Joined Together To Corrupt The Nation With A New Poison, Spawned From The Devil, Called Dope

One of the things that I enjoy about these old pulp novels is the totally fantastic ways the author felt he needed to embellish the size and scope of the crime. Everything had to be a plot against the entire nation. The broader the scope of the attack on society, the better. That bit of incredable logic aside. The actual battles between the Spider and the dealers of dope death, the almost overwhelming odds against Richard Wentworth, the array of disguises he uses, all just make this a classic example of this series of heroic adventures.

Inhaling Death

The strange deaths of people sets "The Spider" on a man hunt, I'm not going to tell how they died find out for yourself.

Fun and Diverting

Jax Edison is the creation of author Chris Wichtendahl, whose imagination knows no bounds when it comes to fantasy and sci-fi, yet always manages to ground his characters with recognizable traits and behaviors. The dialogue flows easily, making these Jax Edison adventures a smooth, satisfying read.

Great read, well written

Came across this as a free download Kindle addition and decided to give it a chance. Loved it. Keep up the great work!
