I am waiting to see what James Harris' follow up book will be like.

Fall of Centuria starts out action packed and continues on throughout the book in that fashion. I had a hard time putting the book down. I am waiting to see what James Harris' follow up book will be like.

Wonderfully Refreshing

This book took me on an exciting adventure from start to finish. I found myself so unable to set it down that I finished it in one day.

I anxiously look forward to the next addition.

Mysterious beginning left me wanting more

Can't wait to read the rest to see what happens next. Will the boy escape from the demons. Will they kill him or his horse?

4.0/5 Magic, Mystery, and Destiny

Summary: Miri Katz, a student at P.A.W.S. has a lot more to deal with than mere classes. Her fathers a semi-immortal psychopath of sorts. Thats enough to give you grays even if you dont have the ability to turn into a cat.

Additional Comments:

- Although it can be read and understood without listening or reading book one, Id recommend doing this series in order.

- There are a ton of very cool concepts in here. I like the idea of magic schools, powerful pendants, the quest for immortality, moral questions, and stuff like that.

- Content Warning: There are also some pretty disturbing elements involving multiple forms of abuse of a minor. The book is categorized as YA and I know teens deal with stuff like this. The tough content is handled reasonably well, but I just dont like it in fantasy stuff I read/listen to. It makes whatever Im reading way less kid-friendly, meaning I cant recommend it to the target audience. (Everything else fits a 13-ish age bracket splendidly, except that.)

- Audio performance was done with heart.

- I didnt like certain characters. I dont think youre meant to like the particular character I had in mind, but its really annoying to actively hate story characters. (On the flip side, that means theyve got some depth to them.) This could just be the voice used for the character, it grated on the nerves. Pretty sure thats exactly what its supposed to do

- Theres not a great deal of closure. Its very much a part two of multiple stories. I would have liked a few more threads to be tied up. Im sure they will be, but that will have to wait for book 3.

Conclusion: If youre okay with slightly depressing themes like sexual abuse of a kid and can get past that, then its actually a really good book.

*I received a copy of the audio free. I chose to review it.*

Title: Stolen

Author: Cheree Alsop

Narrator: Diane Lehman

Format: Unabridged

Length: 8 hrs and 37 mins

Language: English

Release date: 05-04-17

Publisher: Cheree Alsop

Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Fantasy: Paranormal

Publisher's Summary:

When Kyla March finds a wounded young man hiding in her father's clinic, it doesn't take her long to realize that Marek is more than he seems. Their lives become entangled in a world of kidnapped children, renegade Shifters, and the men who will stop at nothing to erase their existence.

In a world governed by winged Falconan soldiers that rule the streets, Kyla and Marek have to decide who they can trust, and how they can make a difference, when the fate of Kyla's family and the love that has grown between them hangs in the balance.

Members Reviews:

Exciting and original

I was asked a few times while reading this if I thought Cheree Alsop was playing off the success of other werewolf books out there. Now that I'm finished I can say for sure no, she is not! Her book is well-written because the premise is original, her story is engaging and exciting and the characters are likeable. The main cast is younger, which makes this more appealing maybe for readers of that age group. But the romance part of this book was handled age - appropriately and the chemistry between characters was well done. I finished the book going to find another in the series to tell me the date of a few other characters I feel in love with. I will definitely be reading more of Cheree Alsop's books!

Great story about family and love

Stolen by Cheree Alsop is about young love caught in the middle of a supernatural turf war. The shapeshifters were a failed experiment, thrown out and discarded. Splicing genes of humans with animals left the children too self aware, too independent. The Falconans are the new, better version. And itâs their job to wipe out the remaining shifters. Marek is a wolf shifter, injured in the fight, finding shelter in a veterinary clinic. Kyla is a sweet, human girl, startled by the request for help from a bleeding boy on the floor of her fatherâs animal hospital.

Although not your traditional âwerewolfâ story, Stolen brings everything we love about shapeshifter stories. And not all the shifters are wolves, as some are birds or cat breeds. Kyla finds Marek too courageous to resist, and Marek finds Kylaâs ordinary life a lure he canât decline. As the Falconans come for them and secrets are revealed, they are caught in a fight theyâre not sure they want to win.

I admire Marek in this book, as heâs taken on a leadership role and something of a big brother role to the other shifters in his pack. Heâs determined to keep them safe, at any cost. But heâs still human enough to miss his family, and ache for the love he sees in Kylaâs. Kyla is terrified, but she steps up to the plate and shows herself willing to do whatever it takes to help Maret and the little family heâs introduced her to.

Good Idea but Not Executed Well

THERE ARE SOME SPOILERS IN THIS REVIEW.

At first I loved this book. I loved the idea, the plot, the characters and the world it was set in. But like most relationships, after the initial 'infatuation period' wore off I began to see some holes beneath the surface.

The first that really caught me was during one scene that May, a lost child was shot and killed, and Raven was shot and seriously injured (not being able to fly later in the book). Marek's reaction to this struck me as so out of character, so strange and unusual. He swore off guns entirely, though he supported the rest of the Pack learning how to competently shoot the weapons.

I died and was resurrected, and I don't know why.

My name is Casi Clarity. I was 26 years old when I died in 1969. Then I woke up in the 21st century - whole, sane, and unblemished. And at the same age I was when I died.

What's more, when I came back, I brought a friend with me. His name is Coheed. He's a corporeal spirit, and he is also my protector. Against what, you ask? Well, it seems that ever since my return, I've been chased by ghosts. Demons. Ancient evil. Monsters. You name it.

Why are they after me? Because they want to know my secret. They want to wreak havoc on mankind and bring about our ultimate destruction, and the only way they can accomplish that is by being fleshy beings again. To inhabit as many bodies as they can to cause untold horror. They are determined to discover how I returned from the dead, even if it means trapping me, torturing me, and ultimately killing me again to see if I'm resurrected a second time.

The world needs a miracle

Casi Clarity awakes and finds herself in a Manhattan subway with no recollection of how she got there. Her last memory was working at the Winn-Dixie back in Texas. Thereâs a man after her, and another who knows her and is trying to help, but who are these people? And how did she get here?

A short conversation later with her protector, whom she now knows as Coheed, and Father Daviel, and her life is flipped upside down. Sheâs fifty years in the future, resurrected to fulfill a prophecy. She is the one who will save the world from the demons threatening to take over. She must fight, and Coheed will be beside her every step of the way. What neither expected were the feelings that developed along the way.

The prophecy will be fulfilled, no one can stand in the way, but thereâs more to it than Casi or Coheed, or even Father Daviel know.

2.5 Platypires

I was given a copy of this audiobook in exchanged for an honest review. I got the kindle version nearly 4 years ago, after having met the author at a signing. My schedule wasn't working for ebook reading, but I promised the author I'd write her an audio review if she provided me with a credit to get the book.

The thing is... I read it earlier this year and I've been waiting months to post this review. There's not a single other review on the audible page, and that just makes me feel awkward. But it's been almost a year since I was given the audiobook, so I couldn't really wait any longer.

If you are interested in this story I highly recommend you read the book. I kept up with my ebook version and read along as I was listening to the audio. Although I have my issues with the written version of this story, it's much easier to deal with than Sallie Downing's narration. She has very little emotion or expression and made the most dramatic parts of the story underwhelming. It was incredibly disappointing. Had I not already promised I'd review the audio, I'd have just stopped it and gone straight to the ebook.

I will say this about Blood Purple, it's got an interesting concept. I liked the beginning, it had a strong opening. It kept me wanting to continue the story, even during the many parts of incoherence and repetition. And I found the ending to just be downright awkward. I am debating finishing the series, but via ebook form. I will be avoiding any other audiobooks narrated by Sallie Downing.

Title: Uriel's Fall

Subtitle: Ubiquity, Book 1

Author: Loralie Hall

Narrator: Leanna Abbott

Format: Unabridged

Length: 8 hrs and 3 mins

Language: English

Release date: 10-31-16

Publisher: Acelette Press

Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 4 votes

Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Fantasy: Paranormal

Publisher's Summary:

What's a corporate demon to do when the voice in her head is devouring her sanity from the inside out, and the hosts of heaven and hell would rather see her destroyed than surrender a power no one should possess?

Ronnie has the job any entry-level angel or demon would sell their soul for - she's a retrieval analyst for the largest search engine in the world. Ubiquity is a joint initiative between heaven and hell. Because what better way to track all of humanity's secrets, both good and bad, than direct access to their web browsing habits?

She might appreciate the position a little more if a) she could remember anything about her life before she started working at Ubiquity, b) the damn voice in her head would just shut up already, and c) her boss wasn't a complete control freak.

As she searches for solutions to the first two issues, and hopes the third will work itself out in performance reviews, she uncovers more petty backstabbing than an episode of Real Housewives, and a conspiracy as old as Lucifer's descent from heaven. On top of all that, if she forgets the cover sheet on her TPS report one more time, she's absolutely going on final written warning.

Now Ronnie's struggling to keep her sanity and job, while stopping the voice in her head from stealing her life. She almost misses the boredom of retrieval analysis at Ubiquity. Almost.

New twist on the old demons and angels rhetoric

What made the experience of listening to Uriel's Fall the most enjoyable?

I came across the audiobook for Uriel's Fall while looking for a narrator for my own work, and I must say the short two-minute sample I heard was enough to drive me over to Audible, register for an account, and download it.Uriel's Fall doesn't waste time with the old good vs. evil rhetoric when it comes to demons and angels, and I couldn't be happier for that. Hall brings a fresh look into the day-to-day lives of the inhabitants of Heaven and Hell, and Ubiquity is very much a day-to-day job. I love how she manages to meld the supernatural with the mundane seamlessly. This could very well be happening in the real corporate world and we would never know.Ronnie is a fun character. Her snark helps to save her sometimes whiny and naive disposition. I mean, when you are a demon who can't remember anything past three months ago, and had to have Lucifer pull strings to get you a job that feels daunting, I guess you have some things to whine about. And things don't seem to be getting any better when an aggressive, bully-centric, and blood-thirsty voice suddenly starts talking to you, mocking your private thoughts. Especially when the voice appears to want a bloody vengeance against the three most powerful angels of all time.Hall manages to keep the story flowing, effortlessly dialoguing Ronnie and the voice as she sets out to juggle a confusing love triangle between her, Gabriel, and Michael, figure out why Lucifer has suddenly become distant and unhelpful with getting her memories back, fighting with a d*** boss, and discovering what, or who, killed Metatron centuries ago and why she is connected to her death. This book has quickly become one of my favorites and I can't wait to sink my teeth into more.
