    A Tale of Intrigue Indeed
Cosby throws ideas together on paper like Pollack throws paint on a wall.
It is easy to find yourself regularly questioning his story only to find that each streak of color blends in perfectly with the next. However, to take that a step further, every line of thought is intentional and of value to the story he pens. If at any point, he has missed a tittle, it is made irrelevant with the astonishing circumstances his characters must walk through.
There will be times where you feel a little out of place, maybe a little disoriented by the twist in the cavernous journey. However, if you will simply hold onto that torch a little further into the cave...you may find that the demons behind you are conquered by the one thing that you have pushed away for so long.
His letters are etched in blood forcing the pitfalls of this world to bay. And when treachery shows its ugly head as one of the unprecedented disarming tiger-like twists, the value of a stone-cold comrade will surely have you wrapped up in the reality that your reality may never be what it seems.
Dr. Braxton Cosby opens eyes through his beautiful craftsmanship of an engrossing maze of colors, mindsets, and wild conditions, all of which are sure to make the voyage aboard the ferry well worth the trip.
    Another Winner
I know of very few people who don't love a story that pits good against evil, has a romantic side to it and then throws some wickedly great challenges in. Braxton Cosby seems to have the recipe for creating fascinating stories that the reader can't put down. I started reading this on my commute to and from school. I was not making much progress. My evenings were tied up preventing me from reading. All it took was one glorious day with no school, no writing and the book was mine. I finished it in a little under four hours. I love the world Cosby has built inside "The School of Ministry". For every test and trial that Ziv went through I looked at my own life. They are life lessons that we can apply to our own life. Ziv has an issue with holding onto anger. The lessons he learned by looking within himself and the way it affected his walk with God made me to the same thing. I took these lessons he learned and learned from them myself. I don't think this was necessarily what the author was going for when he wrote the book. I believe this is just an added bonus. The Christian aspect was a plus for me. The non-believer as well as the believer will enjoy this story. The action in this book is told in such a way that for a visual person like me I was carried into each battle and training. I felt my heart pounding whenever Ziv's heart would pound.

    Just not my thing.
I really wanted to like this. However, the story just never managed to hook me. It was disjointed and I simply could not become invested in any of the characters. It did not help that the narrator used an atrocious echo effect on his voice that was more of an annoyance than anything else.

The Memoirs of Harry Chesterton were found by the author in an attic flat in Eastbourne along with Chesterton's final letter before crossing over into the world of Thanatos. Thanatos Rising constitutes the first volume of memoirs which recounts Chesterton's perilous investigations in Aberystwyth up until the time of his first disappearance.

A Horror Story for the Educated that has Echoes of Stoker's Dracula
    (Very Minor Spoilers)
How far would you go to get your PhD?
    Are there any limits?
What price is too high? Your life? Your soul? Your friend's souls?
Harry Chesterton, a doctoral candidate, believes he is on a hunt for the existence of the soul. The only scientist to effectively measure the ' memory footprint ' of a soul after death is Dr. Otto Blighty, a man kicked out of Oxford as a crank and a loon, as he wouldn't reveal his apparatus for measuring souls as he wanted his discoveries kept out of competitors hands. His peers (were there any?), deemed this ludicrous, and booted him out. He disappeared.
Harry has run him to ground in Aberystwyth in Wales. The entire town acts odd, as if they are actors in a play. Even though Harry is a psychiatrist, he starts having strange compulsions that sound a lot like mental illness, or is it something evil? He is fixated on Blighty, on a Discalced Carmelite priest and a former monastery high on a hill with a very ancient and questionable past. Every time Harry tries to hike to the old monastery, something happens - he blacks out, loses memory, and winds up in his apartment hours later, sometimes with injuries and a sweet smell pervading the room.
Mr. Prior isn't pulling any punches here. This is a straight up horror tale told as if written by a PhD candidate about his subsequent hunting of an evil genius, Dr. Otto Blighty. Harry has been looking into Blighty's research and Blighty is not happy about it. When evil genius' get cranky; nobody is safe.
What do you do if you are an evil genius and a pesky but very smart doctoral candidate starts bugging you on your home turf?
Oh, btw, boy wonder thinks you are Superman. Will that keep him alive longer than a day or two?
You will have to read the book to solve this mystery and what is that sweet smell? It's kind of yummy and delicious. Makes me want to... Hey there gorgeous. My place. Actung!
The language may be thesis level, but anyone who reads the classics should handle it with ease. Come on people, this isn't rocket surgery. With a Kindle or other reader, the dictionary is built in. For print, if you have to, look up the words on your phone or computer. There is only 1 word too specialized or archaic to be in the Full Version of the Dictionary.
There is a lot of misdirection here, Prior is like a magician; he waves the fingers of his right hand so you won't know what his left hand is doing, but the clues are always sprinkled throughout the story.

    It keeps getting better
Would you listen to Vampire Blues again? Why?
Yes, I'd listen again. It's hilarious.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Vampire Blues?
I loved the part of killing a vampire using a shoe instead of a spike.
Which character as performed by Julie Hoverson was your favorite?
I loved the way Julie vocalizes Figg. She keeps my attention.
Need more to the story, too cramped
This is book two in the series, I had hoped it would be a bit longer. The story is really great, but it is all squished together in a rush. So many things happening and not enough time to really get into them. The story seems to hop from event to event. It would have been nice to have a bit more build and detail as things progressed, this is why I would have liked this to be a full book instead of novella length.
The narrative is split between the two leads, which helps keep the reader engaged and on the inside of the story. The transitions are easy to follow, as each section is labeled with whose POV you are hearing. I would guess a longer book would help these thoughts feel less rushed and expositional.
The story progresses from a time shortly after the first book ended. There are issues with Werewolves, Vamps, helping Carl the necromancer, a murder frame up, colossal vamp battle for power of the city and some hanky panky for Lian and Fig. See all that in a 3 hour audiobook, feels cramped! The story was entertaining, but it could have been so much more.
Julie Hoverson does a terrific job with all the voices she is given, keeping the distinct throughout. I really enjoy her accent for Lian, it makes my ears very happy. Her energy helps move the read along swiftly, while at the same time engaging the listener. She is a fantastic choice for this series. I have heard a few of her reads and am never disappointed.
I am eager for the next book, because there are loads of things left slightly open. I can see potential for an excellent read, if only we could spend a bit more time with the story instead of rushing from one thing to the next.

Will she be able to save the planet from shrinking into a black hole? Only Time will tell, and he isn't speaking to anyone at present.

(Melissa Leo, Academy Award winner, The Fighter)
"Nicole Quinn's imagery is so startling, brilliant and original, that I caught my breath at each sentence. Sure to become a modern classic in the tradition of The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood." (Laura Shaine, author, Dreams of Rescue, A Place in the Country, and Sleeping Arrangements)
    Members Reviews:
" for she celebrates love and the way it can serve to bring out ...
Having finished the entire Gold Stone Girl 3-book series, I'm left puzzled--not, as some readers have indicated, because the story in complicated but because it is so poorly edited. The plot of the story is fairly straightforward: In a far-distant future, after the world has experienced a cataclysmic collapse, demons emerge. The two most relevant are sisters Anka (a dark demon) and Alma (a light demon). A million years in the past, Anka killed and partially ate her sister so that she could control the planet as "Night Mare." The plot evolves on the premise that Alma "planted seeds," or fertilized embryos in trees and stones in anticipation that her sister might destroy her. Her goal, we are asked to assume, is based on the premise that at least one of these "children" would survive long enough to challenge and ultimately defeat Anka. As the first volume begins, however, none has succeeded. Each has been captured and eaten by Anka, who is revitalized as a result.
The promise of a new order lies in the hands of Mina, a young girl "born of tree" with special powers, the most significant being the ability to make dreams reality. She is the Dream Weaver, counterpoint to Night Mare. The three volumes of the series describe Mina's trials and tribulations as she slowly comes to understand and accept her demon nature and the powers that she holds. Even so, she is reluctant to use her powers to defeat Anka, and Nicole Quinn chooses for unknowable reasons to rely on a deus ex machina device to rid the world of the Night Mare--Anka's grandmother, a dragon many miles long, snatches up the Night Mare and carries her off to Oblivion for eternity.
What this bare-bones plot summary fails to recognize is the author's skill at weaving social and personal commentary into the story. She does so by drawing on impressive knowledge of history, mythology, psychology, and sociology. The "war of the sexes" takes on new and frightening meaning in these texts, and Quinn illustrates graphically the dark side of masculinity.

This is more than a tale of bravery -- it is the story of faith and hope wrapped in electric, thrilling wings. A mother has to find a way to save her child and herself from two branches of the caves of hell. Her plan is risky, but any roll of the dice in her predicament is equally as risky.
