Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Dark Fantasy
    Publisher's Summary:
How far would you go to save your family?
Midsummer used to be a day of feasts and bonfires. A day when cares were set aside for the joy of grass between our toes, warm hands in our palms, laughter in our hearts. Our celebrations dimmed with the light. Something upset the balance of our woods. Something so deep that even our bonfires can't lure the sun back. And he has something to do with it. Of that we're sure, which is why I'm being given to him.
    K. M. Rice is a national award-winning screenwriter and author who has worked for both Magic Leap and Weta Workshop. Her first novel, Darkling, is a young adult dark fantasy that now has a companion novel titled The Watcher. Her upcoming Afterworld series is set to debut with the first book, Ophelia. Over the years, her love of storytelling has led to producing and geeking out in various webshows and short films. When not writing or filming, she can be found hiking in the woods, baking, running and enjoying the company of the many animals on her family ranch in the Santa Cruz Mountains of California.

    A Fabulous Work!!
K.M. Rice weaves a thrilling dark fantastical story, bringing to mind the gothic and mysterious folklore feel of 'Uprooted', alongside the creeping atmospheric chills of 'The Woman In Black', and the heart-rending anguish of 'Wintersong'. As thematically dense as its forest setting, this is a tale we step into and experience as the viewpoint character, a fascinating heroine; gifted, flawed, determined, vulnerable. I firmly connected with her, bearing the emotion of her struggle and its outcome. Love, passion, fear and suffering are fuels for the story, which is an immersive mystery of many layers, brought wonderfully to life through Gail Shalan's perfect voice. It's a must listen title. With great poetry and descriptive power, author and narrator take the familiar haunted house genre and accomplish with it something vividly unique which captivates.

Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 2 votes
Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Dark Fantasy
    Publisher's Summary:
It started with a single child and quickly spread: you could get high by drinking your own shadow. At night, lights were destroyed so that addicts could sip shadow in the pure light of the moon.
Gangs of shadow addicts chased down children on playgrounds, rounded up old ladies from retirement homes. Cities were destroyed and governments fell. And if your shadow was sipped entirely, you became one of them, had to find more shadow, at any cost, or go mad.
One hundred and fifty years later, what's left of the world is divided between the highly regimented life of those inside dome-cities that are protected from natural light (and natural shadows), and those forced to the dangerous, hardscrabble life in the wilds outside. In rural Texas, Mira, her shadow-addicted friend Murk, and an ex-Domer named Bale search for a possible mythological cure to the shadow sickness - but they must do so, it is said, before the return of Halley's Comet, which is only days away.

    Kept me interested!
This audio performance was really good! It kept me captivated and want to hear what would happen next. The characters came alive right away and I wanted to identify with them. The story itself was a little darker than I expected. I had to pause at those times and listen to music or something else for a bit. Then I wanted to hear what Annella does next so I hit play again. I don't know how R. Paul Matty did all those voices but they all sounded real to me!

    Zach does it again
Zach does a wonderful job telling this story! Empty Bodies is one of my favorite series and they only get better each time. It's an extremley easy read and can cause you to lose track of time. Sad that the series will end with the next book but I have total faith Mr. Bohannon will put it to rest in the best way possible.
    Turned up to 11.
Zach has really cranked up the action in this latest installment of the empties series, I loved it, easy to read and I felt the characters are really developing.

    Beware the Web !!
Another great audio book from the original Target adaptations of the classic era of Dr Who and you don't get more classic than Web of Fear! brilliantly read by Patrick Troughtons's son David who as you might imagine captures his dads characterisation spot on as well as all the other players in what I consider one of the better novelisation's by Terrance Dicks. Atmospheric and really captures the creepy dark dank feeling of being trapped underground with lumbering monsters around every bend of the tunnels. 5 stars

New York Times best-selling author P. C. Cast's Goddess Summoning series continues as a modern woman attempts to tame a wild beast with the power of love.
Empousai family roses have bloomed for centuries, thanks to the drops of blood their women sacrifice for their gardens. But Mikki would rather forget this family quirk and lead a normal life. Until she unwittingly performs a ritual, ending up in the strangely familiar Realm of the Rose. As its goddess Hecate reveals, Mikki is a priestess - and the Realm's been waiting for her.
Long ago, an enraged Hecate cursed her guardian beast and the entire Realm with a slumber only a priestess can undo - and she's counting on Mikki to set things right. The beast at first terrifies Mikki, but soon intrigues her more than any man ever has. Now, the only way he and the Realm can be saved is for Mikki to sacrifice her life-giving blood - and herself.

    Love the series
This book was a wonderful listen. I loved this book as much as I had books 1 and 2 in the series. I was a little disappointed in the 3rd book but this one gave me the same emotional roller coaster I had with the first two and I loved it. Written very well and nothing is quite what you expect or how you envision it should go which to me makes it even more enjoyable. The series is unlike any other Ive read or listened too and I would suggest it to anyone looking for a twist on a romance novel.
I feel as if its being narrated by a machine
Unfortunately I cant tell you how the actual story progresses even though I have been a fan of this author for a while... I will buy the hard copy of this book to read in the future however I am unable to stand the uncomfortable unhuman like tone of the narration a moment longer... it is as if it was being read by the speaking clock. My mistake for not listening to the sample before buying the audio book (a mistake I will not make again). Utterly disappointed.

Know this: I am not a warrior. I am a disease.
When I was six, my parents died.
When I was 16, I was locked away in Rock Point Girls' Home. Nobody wants to deal with a liar. An addict. A thief.
Nobody except Alle. She is pure, and she's my friend, in spite of all the rotten things I am.
There was once another girl like me - long ago. A cast-off daughter. A lying little beast who left a red stain across the land with her terrible magic. She's imprisoned now in a maze high up on the cliffs. They say she's half woman, half bull. They say she dines on human tributes, and guards a vast treasure. They say she was born wicked.
But I know her better than the history books or stories do. She and I dream together. Our destinies are twisted up like vines.
Except I'm not going to turn out wicked like she is. I can save myself by destroying her. I'm going to break out of this place, and I'm going to enter the labyrinth and take her heart.
And once I'm redeemed, maybe Alle will love me.

Freakish Fantasy With Coming of Age and Romance
Macabre, dark, and complex along the twisting path of a story structured much like the labyrinth of legend. It was definitely a right person and mood type of story and I happened to be just such a listener for this unique, introspective tale.
Ever have one of those books come along that makes you scratch your head about what to say? Not that it was a bad read/listen, but that it was so far outside the usual and that it crosses so many genre lines that... loss for words. I've got just such a one here. But I will try.
First of all, this is YA in age of characters, but not really YA in scope of readership. Secondly, its coming of age and getting past abuse, loss, grief, and anger so it might seem fiction, but then again, there are relationships and romance. Oh and much of the book seems a contemporary setting of a girl's orphanage home, but then there was the labyrinth and the tumble into Wonderland territory mashed with mythology. And that is just the dilemma of what genre it falls in. I'm going with fantasy romance.
Secondly, I said it was a coming of age and romance and it is, but this girl has some pretty dark, tortured thoughts and she's not likeable and sort of wears that badge proudly so there are musings of unreliable narration going on for me when it comes to Thera, but really, she's just seeing things through the lens of her own hard experiences. I enjoy that sort of thing at times- getting inside a disturbed person's mind, but I will admit that it made it a slower-paced piece because reflection and not a lot of action take up nearly half the book.
I'm still not sure what to make of the last portions. The labyrinth was incredible in its craziness, but for that reason, it was perfectly drawn. The ending was wistful and distant so that I felt I was being pulled back from the intimacy I had felt with the sole narrator, the heroine.
This is a coming of age piece and it was more of an exploration into physical intimacy by the two roommates, Thera and Alle. They become intimate, but it is not a lengthy description. Theirs was something almost sweet and a little innocent mixed in with the budding passion.

This selection is a life changer
I didn't know what to expect when I first started to read this book. I figured it would be similar to the YA series The Selection with a dash of Hunger Games with a sci-fi setting but it's it own league. Maya starts out with dreams of starting a life once the selection that happens twice a year is over. She has nothing to fear as she won't be picked because another girl has been offered instead. When the pre selected girl has been found dead and Maya is chosen as one of the representative for her clan. This is the only the start of the book and it gets even more interesting once she arrives on the other planet. Great start to a new series and going to read the next book right away.
    Amazing and different.
This book had my complete full attention!! I delayed sleep, restroom needs, and barely ate. Just to keep reading this magnificent other worldly story. My eyes were just glued to it!! I'm definitely buying the next book to the series.
This series reminds me of other books I've previously read. But, yet it's so different. I was truly heartbroken at the last page of this book. I wanted to just keep on reading!
Well, I rated this book 5 stars for the wonderful story. I rate a book on how how many emotions it makes me experience throughout reading the book. I was in a big box of emotions. Definitely pissed. I wonder what will happen!!
This book is subtle and HOT at the same time.
I am hooked in this series. Lord Toric is such a mystery even at the end of the book. The passion between Toric and Maya vibrates and pulses off the pages. Looking forward to book two.
    Exciting
Loved this book. The whole book brought on a challenge vibe. Loved Lord Torin and Maya. They seem to have a deep draw to each other. They belong together.
It is very much like hunger games
This series has me intrigued. It is very much like hunger games. The story, right around the halfway mark started getting boring, but right at the end it got my interest again so I will read the second one
