Good Raw Science fiction but not for young people
I must say I really love this book. It is raw and the characters are too. There are some sex scenes and language but it helped to really bring out the character. The narration is unique with multiple voice actors and even some minor sound effects. It is almost like a radio performance. I really enjoyed the authors description of each of the character's thoughts and the splitting up of the chapters by character. Overall good science fiction highly suggested not to listen to it in the car with the kids. It ended leaving me anxiously waiting for the next novel.
Great second book, want the third now :)
This was a great second book, I followed on straight from the first, but my reviews are way behind. haha.
I have to say I don't always like Calen or what he does, or tried to do, but the set up and deliverance of the story here, and his character arc, alongside 1001's was really well woven. There's so much deep history in here, and some really not good decisions, until you get past the fact he mostly pretends to be an ass, then you can't really understand and feel for him.
I really am interested in seeing how they are going to sort out all of this mess. Well written, well-involved story, that makes you think about what you might do yourself in their situations. Not everyone is as good as we think when death is facing them. Bring on the next. :)

    Love/hate relationship
I loved the story but found myself saying "You stupid b***ch" more than once at Nina. She was mean, rude, and self- centered and threw temper tantrums. I will continue to read the series as they come out because I like the story, but I hate Nina. Worth the read? Yes, but prepare to yell at Nina. A lot.
    Great Book
I loved this series and so ready for the rest of the story...the wait begins
    Love this author
I have been enjoying Odium since book 1. Hated the wait until book 3 but LOVED it when it became available. I will look for other books by this author as she is really good :) Thank you! and hurry up with number 4!
If this is the end I will not be happy
That being said I know not all series can go on forever..... but still! Damn!
I actually loved the narrator even though I wasn't happy with the change in book 3. It's usually frustrating. Still she did an excellent job.
This one just left me wanting more and I don't think I'm going to get it.
I would have loved for them to go find all of the stuff stashed in Old man Rileys bunker from book one. I'd love to know if the cabin is ever found. I don't like making assumptions. Sure I can imagine what happens after but I'd rather know. Lol

    Title: 2288 A.D.: A Time Travel Sci-fi Fantasy
Subtitle: The Ashlyn Chronicles, Book 2
Author: Glenn Van Dyke, Renee Van Dyke
    Narrator: Karey James Kimmel
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 7 hrs and 45 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 08-05-16
    Publisher: Glenn Van Dyke
Ratings: 3.5 of 5 out of 10 votes
    Genres: Romance, Science Fiction
    Publisher's Summary:
2288 A.D. is the second book of the number-one best-selling The Ashlyn Chronicles series. The first novel, 2287 A.D., is a Kindle all-star (top 100 Amazon book) that has sold over 100,000 copies in its first year.
While 2288 A.D. can be listened to as a stand alone novel (and it has no cliffhanger ), we strongly, repeat strongly, recommend you first read or listen to Book 1, 2287 A.D. It is where the characters are first introduced, and there is much to be learned about the far reaching arc of the story line and why they make the choices they do.
And now, the fun stuff (synopsis):
The first novel, 2287 A.D., tells the story of Ashlyn Parker and Steven Sherrah, the man who is in command of Earth's last surviving starship. He has been struggling to keep the handful of Earth's survivors alive, hiding from the most vicious and powerful enemy humanity has ever known, an enemy that is relentless in its determination to see that every last human is killed.
Without wanting to give away spoilers, 2288 A.D. starts where the first novel ends. It will take them back in time almost 7,000 years. This is where the secret that Ashlyn holds is revealed. It will lead them on an incredible journey of time travel through strange new worlds, changing the history of the universe.
Like 2287 A.D., 2288 A.D. is packed full of action and adventure. Personally, we hate a three-page description of how a star-drive engine operates. We hope that you too will enjoy a story that moves quickly.

Weak story, poorly written, annoying chimes
Not sure wear happened here, first book was awesome, this one disappointed badly. Only one story line and uneventful one at that. The whole book is about single character's journey. That journey is supposed to be long and difficult, except length or difficulty were not communicated to the reader with the way various events were depicted.
Overall, book needs more careful editing/proof reading. Same phrases are repeated multiple times in short succession; makes it sound like there was a lack of imagination.
Audio book was annoying with "chimes" between every chapter. They were incredibly distracting and completely out of context. Chapters are fairly short, so it seemed like you were hearing them all the time. Performance of various voices sounded strained. Even with the very few characters that were in the book, it was difficult to tell who was speaking based on the voice.
    I'd pass on this one.
Can't believe this is from the same author
It's exactly what you would expect in a science fiction story if I was to write it... GENERIC AND EXPECTED. I tried listening to this at least 20 times and could not get through it. The first book I couldn't put down. Now I want to go back and see if I really thought the first one was good!

    Format: Unabridged
Length: 8 hrs and 29 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 07-26-16
    Publisher: Simon & Schuster Audio

    Genres: Romance, Suspense
    Publisher's Summary:
The long-awaited sequel to My Sweet Audrina, one of V. C. Andrews' strangest, most beloved books - and now a Lifetime movie!
Whitefern swallowed Audrina's childhood - and now the sprawling Victorian mansion threatens her adult life, too.
Audrina remembers a better time, when her husband, Arden, was a young man with a heart filled with devotion for her. He didn't used to be this ambitious, this expansive...this cruel. But then, the death of Aurdina's father changed a great many things.
When the reading of her father's will reveals that Audrina herself will control 51 percent of the family brokerage, the halls of Whitefern again don't feel safe. Arden's protestations become frantic, nearly violent. And while Audrina didn't anticipate running the family business, she's curious to do so. And she can't help but wonder what had made her father change his will at the last minute. What did he know about Arden that she didn't?
Trapped in the middle of it all: her fragile, simple sister - the beautiful, trusting Sylvia. Audrina promised her father she'd watch over the young woman. But after years of relative quiet, the dark days of Whitefern may have returned....
    Members Reviews:
    Great read!!!
I saw there was so many negative reviews about this book and I must say that to me it was a very good book. Arden got what he had deserved! I do not feel sorry for him quite bit. Audrina was too naive and had needed to come out from that little fantasy world of hers and be more aware of her surroundings more, but she still was a good person and I enjoyed her and Sylvia's relationship!
Good after story to sweet Adrina
    Not really a V.C. Andrew's story line, however, it's a good story......
I liked the reader very much....
    Satisfying Sequel
I went into this sequel not expecting much, but it turned out to be a good read. Andrews has always been pretty great if youre looking squidgy subject matter and twisted family relationships and Whitefern doesnt disappoint. While the twists in the story are pretty predictable, it didnt take away from the my enjoyment of the story.
Im not sure how to address this without giving too much away, but as the description calls Arden into question it should be okay to point out... I have heard from others they thought Arden was a bit out of character. I can understand the criticism. Hes nothing like the young Arden who was a pretty great son. Instead, hes a more concentrated version of who he showed himself to be at the climax of My Sweet Audrina. To me his characters flaws developed like a tooth with some decay that, with time and no dentistry, rots through.
    Quite predictable
Arden's character wasn't like in MSA. Very sad. It could have been a better book.
    Awesome book
Loved this book. It tide right in where My Sweet Audrina left off. Great job.

An instinct for survival makes her fight, but when she achieves freedom, she discovers she cannot throw off the chains of habit. Everything changes when another flesh-covered droid arrives, a cyborg he calls himself, who teaches her she is more than a machine.
Solus hates humanity, and even though he was born as a flawed human, he strives to eradicate all traces of it from his persona - until he meets F814. Meeting and touching her releases something in him. Has him yearning for things he doesn't understand. Makes him long for affection.
Before he can learn to love though, he must first tackle the task of reminding F814 that she is more than the sum of her mechanical parts. But of course, when dealing with an illogical thing like emotions, there is no sure plan for success.

Solus is an alpha male commander who wants to show Fiona what it is to be a cyborg and finds love himself. These two are so stubborn but once ...
F814/Fiona thinks she is a worker droid despite her differences with the other droid miners on the planet they are mining but when the order comes in to kill her she finds that spark inside herself and instead fights her captors and ends up all alone on the planet until a ship filled with cyborgs lands looking for minerals. Solus is an alpha male commander who wants to show Fiona what it is to be a cyborg and finds love himself. These two are so stubborn but once the walls come down the love is intense.
exciting & chilling in its implications
The premise behind this story, and the series as a whole, is heartbreaking. Emotions run deep throughout the entire story, yet at the same time the action packed and exciting plot definitely sizzles. Langlaisâ intricately crafted plot definitely held my attention throughout. I found the nano-tech endlessly appealing. Langlais not only sparked my imagination, but also kept my science minded brain endlessly reeling with the concepts that she brought forth. It was both chilling and exciting. Her vividly intricate world building makes it even more real.
Letâs not forget the cast of characters that made this story even better. Langlaisâ combines a heroine who believes sheâs nothing more than a machine and a hero who believes heâs better off alone. This main couple held my attention throughout, but there was so much more to the story than simply them. I really enjoyed getting to know Seth, Aramus, and Einstein better. Theyâre all so different and their personalities and beliefs affect them each in different ways.
This is a story so hot your ereader will go up in flames. At the same time, the story is exciting and chilling in its implications.
    F814
Fiona has no real memory of her past. Just the last 300 days in a mining area on an asteroid. When the foreman seems to taser her she starts remembering thing from her past and when he says he'll be terminating her she declares war. Brestille of Aiyrn
They've been raiding our planet for generations, but I didn't believe the rumors about twins being bad luck - at least not until the day Gvynette and I were taken. The Terrans snatched us from our home world, brought us to this remote planet, and turned us into guinea pigs, poking and prodding us for their own purposes. I know now that we can never go home. I might have just given up if it hadn't been for the strange new alien I met here. There's something that intrigues me about him. The connection we share is special - that much was clear from the moment we met - or else the scientists are up to more dirty tricks and all of this is just simulated. I don't know who to trust anymore.
    Derresch of Belor
I wasn't supposed to be taken. I should be fighting the Terrans - in a year's time I would have finished my training and been off to war. But now I'm trapped here on this XenoStation with all of the primitive races that are usually the ones being subjected to this kind of inhumane experimentation. I was ready to go down in a blaze of glory, to take as many Terrans with me as I could, but then I met this tough little Aiyurna girl - naïve as you please but strong, defiant even - who made me feel oddly protective. I don't know if I can help her - or if she'll even want me once she finds out what I really am, but she's made me want to go on living, and for now that's enough.
In the last chapter you will encounter the biggest twist yet. All the buildup of the previous two chapters will come to a jaw-dropping end.

    Not sure
I enjoy the Alien / abduction books pretty well. However, i just could not get into this book. This one is quite different from others i have read. This book was about twins getting abducted from another planet, yet they are human, along with others. They are experimented on and then they placed in an area to live out there lives. Just not my type of book. I received this free for an honest review.
    Not Your Typical Sci-Fi Romance
I don't like giving bad reviews, but I have to be honest, this story did not capture or hold my attention. Both the plot, and characters were underdeveloped.
When Brestille, her sister, and boyfriend were taken by the Terrans, everyone just gave up, and accepted their fate. All the characters acted meek and submissive. I would like to have seen more conflict or the characters standing up for themselves.
After Brestille was released into the enclosure she meets another boy? and forgets all about her boyfriend from her old planet and starts seeing Derresch. Their relationship lacked passion and romance. It felt like we were just following the characters as they do mundane day to day activities. Derresch came across as standoffish, and when he decide he wants to fight, he's taken away and never seen again. After Derresch was taken away, Brestille, starts thinking of her boyfriend from her home planet, and finally starts searching for him?
I think the plot would have been more exciting if Brestille's character focused on one boyfriend.

Abducted across the galaxy by aliens, collared and forced to serve as concubine, escape is not possible. My only hope lies with Cesar, my pirate lover. But can he buy me out of slavery if the Cats won't sell?
Cesar did his best to negotiate my sale, to buy me out of service as concubine to Captain Cronin of the Gran. The Captain refuses to bargain. Once more, I'm forced across the galaxy, to the opulent palace of the Emperor, kneeling to serve the sexual demands of an alien Cat.
In my absence, the adolescent Prince has reached maturity, and now he wants me for his own, to be his mate - over the Captain's dead body.
Will I ever be freed of these damned Cats and their perverse desires?
    Members Reviews:
Alien cats, space pirates and a gentically engineered human... what could go wrong?
This is Travis Luedke's forth stop in his incredible space opera. Angel 6.0: Pursuit and the stakes are higher and freedom so much further away for Angel. But more than anything she just wants to be back in the arms of Cesar, but nothing happens the way we want it to, especially if the Gran are involved.
These damn cat creatures have been nothing but a nightmare for Angel and she is completely at their mercy. She is still in the Captain's control and wants nothing to do with him. But what Angel is willing to risk could ultimate be her death. That may be preferred at some point. She doesn't want to continue to go along with the Captain, but the Captain isn't willing to budge on the issue. He wants to keep her regardless of the cost.
Oh, Angel will have her say in it, even if it is to protect the Emperor's son. It is a risk she is willing to take and maybe one day, she will eventually end up in the arms of the man she loves. Of course Travis Luedke wouldn't make it that simple. Where's the adventure in that?
Another time and in another space, Angel is struggling with so much more. She is not just the Captain's concubine. She is now in the eyes of the Emperor's son and her heart is with a pirate...
Travis once again spins everything out of control in space and just makes getting to the destination so much trouble. But it is worth the painstaking journey. The not knowing has its advantages... but it keeps me on the edge of my seat wanting more.
Travis takes his crazy alien cats and shows two very different sides to them. There is the evil that we see in the Captain and the hope we see with the Emperor and his family. But the one place we hope Angel ends up in is the furthest place in the spaces, in the arms of a pirate. This is a tangled web of the imagination and I am hopelessly captivated by each new episode!
Another fabulous read by Travis Luedke.
    Keep wanting more and more
This was another great entry in the life of a girl who cannot seem to catch a break no matter what her situation. The story continues to build on itself bringing more and more complexity to the characters and to the world that they are living in. The tone can be fun and light at times making you laugh or just smile,it can then become dark, or very very hot. I like the way it flows from situation to situation with surprises laid out as things progress.
Angel is less than thrilled to be returning to Gran space, though she is happy to see her royal friends on her return.

    Great read and listen..
This was a fun and exciting read. Yeah, Sami had some pretty stupid thoughts of attraction to her kidnapper, Jake, but her arguments with herself over them were kinda funny. LOL, especially when she called it Amsterdam Syndrome instead of Stockholm and her inner self corrected her. None of the 1 and 2 star reviews bothered to tell you about that, did they? Oh well, we all know how reviews go.
By page 170 I was still really interested in the story, Samis brothers Luke and Matt just left Jake, Samis and Nickys hideout with their plan all put together so I knew things were about to get exciting. Excited to see what misery was going to come down on Petrov and the rest of the Russian mob. Personally, I wanted them all dead, after how theyd tortured Nicky! Geez, hes just a little boy, 9 if I remember correctly, but Sami had a hard time guessing his age because he was so small and malnourished.
Overall, this was a terrific read, even though a little wordy, with kidnapping, murder, torture, sex and love. You really cant ask for more than that. Yeah, they fell in love quickly but you have to remember that the whole story was only a matter of days, not weeks or months. Jake had to hurry and clear his name and find the real bad guy, the one pulling the strings, so everything was hurried. And even though they were attracted to each other right off the bat they didnt have sex until 40% of the book. Its not like they did it the minute she came to. Geez!
I did think the author kind of went overboard with Samis grief over Aimee. I mean she had 3 prescriptions for sleeping pills that she thought about taking? Aimee had been dead for 4 years so why was she having stupid thoughts now? A few months, a year, maybe! But not 4 years. She was a nurse, for Petes sake. Also, the italic conversations with her daughter when she was alive were a little too much. I definitely skimmed those.
AND I have to admit I did skim quite a bit.

It's a simple plan: first get away. Then get revenge.
The future will bring technological revolutions and political upheaval, but some things are timeless. Love grows, trust is precious, and nothing ever goes as planned.
Naomi Kwan is running for her life. First she's accused of terrorism, then her friend Serena is charged with murder, and then the police try to kill them both. They escape with their lives before the corrupt officials behind the frame-ups can silence them, but as conspiracies unravel on all sides, their luck is sure to run out.
Carl Jenson and his brother Parker are government contractors hired to gather evidence against Naomi, but the mission turns personal when all hell breaks loose. They know Naomi is innocent, and they know all about liberating people trapped by escalating violence. The hardest part will be convincing Naomi they're on her side.
A daring escape and a desperate rescue are only the beginning. Mysteries from Naomi's past will collide with Carl and Parker's many secrets, and unraveling the plots that tie them all together leads to explosive consequences.

A good story with an all right narrator
I really enjoyed this continuation of the story started in Controlled Descent. My favorite part was the growing relationship between two characters particularly, one old, one new.
The story is well-written, flows beautifully, and comes to a satisfying conclusion. My one distraction was the overuse of personification. At times the cast seemed even bigger than it was because so many of the characters' emotions were personified.
The narrator has some noticeable vocal patterns he falls into and this was most obvious in the first part of the book. Near midway, he slows down and really improves, to the point that I could forget I was listening to someone reading and just enjoy the story.
Overall, this was a great story and audiobook. I'd recommend it for folks who enjoy thrillers and science fantasy!
