WELL I WAS TEMPED ... AND I'M SO GLAD I WAS
Ms Day I love love love all your books and cannot wait for the next one to be released...... but do you realise I can't get my work done properly, my family's living on take-outs and I've now become an insomniac. If you like sexy Georgian romance listens then my tale shows you just how addictive this series is as once you start listening you just won't want to stop.
This is another captivating story but this time it's about an evil villain, mistaken identity, three romances - one's heartbreaking, one's fiery and one's about forgiveness. They all have passion, tension, deception, danger, seduction, betrayal and lots and lots of sex by brilliant characters that you sympathise and empathise with. Not really a stand alone listen as most of the characters have parts in previous books.
Worth a credit? Yes, but as I've said before, they are all very reasonably priced so splash your cash sit back and enjoy. But a word of warning - get all your work done first and pre-prepare your meals!!
not enough focus on the main romance
This book is fine if you don't mind the following:
    1. A complicated storyline
    2. A further complication of French names that are slightly similar (twins called Lynette and Lysette who get confused for each other and you as a listener get confused even though you never see them! also two important male characters De Garnier and De Jardin... these sound slightly similar to me)
    3. A narrator who puts an inflection on every single sentence she says. Argh
    4. Several romances going on at the same time, none of them fully developed in a convincing way.
I love Sylvia Day, but sometimes she does not develop the romance in a satisfying manner, and this was one of those cases where there was too much else going on in the story, and too many different romances... I would have loved to see what happened to both twin sisters in more detail, rather than hear all about the other elements of the plot in such detail.
I read all sorts of novels, not just romances, and it is my belief that very few romance authors do a good job of the "side story". Sylvia Day, Nora Roberts and Lisa Kleypas all SOMETIMES succeed - but this book was not an example of that.
Hated that this was the last of the series!
What did you love best about Don't Tempt Me?
The multiple levels of intregue and numerous characters, interwoven to provide an absolutely wonderful plot.
What other book might you compare Don't Tempt Me to and why?
I have not found a romance/erotica that compares to Don't Tempt Me.

Excellent Subplot! Ho-Hum Love Story! No sex!
What did you like best about Of Noble Birth? What did you like least?
The subplot teasing out Nathaniel's relationship with his birth family and their motivations was well done. There were unexpected twists and characters introduced in that story line, and I could never be certain if the villains were going to remain villains or if they would perform some act of redemption. That kept me listening. Plus, most of the action (battles at sea, knife fights, etc.) was tied to these characters and their relationships. But the love story between Nathaniel the Pirate and Alexandra the Seamstress....it was just so-so and ho-hum for me. I did not feel the Great Burning Passion that one expects from a romance novel. There seemed to be a lot of S/He-Is-So-Sexy-But-How-Can-I-Be-Attracted-To-This-Person-When-Nothing-Can-Ever-Come-Of-It! Angst which was made all the more aggravating by dialogue and plot devices (Alexandra gets to be a damsel in distress in a rather needless plot detour.) that were just awkward and contrived. Also, it is difficult to find that Great Burning Passion in a story that never has the characters getting carried away by their Great Burning Passion. In other words, these two never have sex. There is a bit of fooling around, but ultimately heads must rule over hearts (and other body parts) according to Brenda Novak. That's not what I'm really looking for in a romance novel. I want escapism, not moralism. More on that below!
Would you be willing to try another book from Brenda Novak? Why or why not?
Actually, this is the second book I tried by Brenda Novak. The first one was The Bastard. I don't think I will be buying anything else by this author. It appears to be very important to Ms. Novak that her heroine remains a virgin until her wedding night. The main characters in both Of Noble Birth and The Bastard did not have a sexual relationship. This is odd, considering they are romance novels about the attraction, lust, and passion (and eventually love) between grown men and women.

AN 'OK' STORY, NOT A GREAT NARRATOR.
I liked the series, good plots, believable characters but the narrator didn't suit this story. He made the hero sound gruff and not very attractive at all.
    better then book 2
What made the experience of listening to To Tempt the Devil the most enjoyable?
I loved it much better then book 2.
What did you like best about this story?
narrator is ok but some people don't seem to like him but i do.
Which character as performed by Michael Page was your favorite?
    Rafe
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
    NO
    Entertaining 3.5 stars
I have enjoyed the whole series. They are easy to listen too but I would not listen to them again. I found this book a bit slow at times and not as steamy as the other books.
As good as the other hawkesbury books
Found the narrator immensely amusing, well done. I could not help laughing at the swagger and bravado he bought to the narration of the book. Hamming it up or not, it was a thoroughly good romp!
The essence of the book is the same as the other Hawkesbury books and likely would read the same, the narrator of this one completely changed the experience compared to the other two Hawkesbury books which are read by a woman in a more romantic young lady style.

    Ruined by poor narration
    Setting: Regency era England
I don't know if I can adequately review this audio book, since the narration and production were so bad. I guess the characters were interesting, and there were actually a couple of humorous moments. There was character growth as well. However, there were several places in the narrative where the story could have been wrapped up, but it just kept going on with almost willful misunderstanding and angst. I guess I'll have to read it in print. If only they had gotten someone like Roslyn Landor to do the reading! It was so distracting it was difficult to truly follow the story line - maybe this book is better than my experience, since I listened to and enjoyed the other Tessa Dare novel available at this site at this time.
I likely will NOT give this a repeat listen.
Dreadful, slow, awful reading ruins great tale
Is there anything you would change about this book?
The reader. Poor Tessa Dare wrote a lively, witty and very entertaining romance, which the reader has utterly ruined in her prissy, ponderous, overly slow, oddly articulated reading. It's as if she were reading it for the simple minded or English-as-second-language students.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Both hero and heroine. He's a rake and friend of the heroine's older brother, she's in love with another of her brother's friends and trying to practice her 'wiles' on the rake.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
See above. If this isn't her first job, let it please be her last.
    Any additional comments?
Read the book, avoid this audiobook, it will detract from your enjoyment of the author's ready and very sly wit. Such a delightful story deserves an equally deft, and droll performance. This is a do-over for me. I regret I cannot get a refund, I'm that annoyed.
Reviews were right, narration was terrible!
Is there anything you would change about this book?
The story was okay, although I don't think I could fairly judge it given that the horrible narration was so distracting. It was slow, and painful, and at several points I really thought I'd just give up on it.
    horrible reader
I have listened to over 300 books... this one was the first that I made myself keep listening because of poor reading. She can't even read a full sentence with out some weird pause... don't think she is a native english speaker...

    Short But Sweet
I'm a huge fan of Rosalyn Landor's narration, so I purchased this book with no real knowledge of the author Courtney Milan's work. This is a very short romantic tale about a governess seeking recompense from a rather seedy Duke, and the Duke's man of business. The ending was a very nice teaser for more in this series and I, for one, am eager to read more.
    Loved it!
What a pleasant surprise! For being a short book you get a complete and very we'll developed story full of feelings. It's a story about a woman looking for redemption and justice and the man confronting her who only cares about achieving power and riches. Once they meet each other they find out that what they wanted out of life isn't important after all and that love brings the ultimate happiness. A great story with flawless narration. What more can you ask for?
Great Writers Don't Need 8 Hours!!
I almost never download novellas. I am inevitably disappointed, feeling as though 3 or 4 hours simply doesn't allow enough time for an author to fully entice me into caring for the characters. The plots often feel truncated. But because I have so much enjoyed Courtney Milan's novels I bought this as soon as it was released. Then it sat on my MP3 player for months and I skimmed over the title again and again. Last night my computer was down and this was all I had left that at all appealed... Thank you computer! Simply stated - this was wonderful! I winced, I filled with ire, I smiled, I sighed and at the end I grinned as I experienced that wonderful feeling of satisfaction that comes from listening to one of the good ones!
A short book under 4 hours
What draws me to romance books is the power given to the heros. I am sure thats what most readers like and that is why especially most historical romances include a powerful, titled or wealthy man. The heroin however can be from any level of society and really needs not a lot of power, money or beauty to recommend her as long as her personality is likable. Here, the story has a man of business to a Duke as the hero and an impoverished lady as a heroin.

Where does The Ranger rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
    TOP 50 (I HAVE 512)
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Ranger?
I ALWAYS LOVE THE INTERACTION BETWEEN THE REST OF MCCLOUDS WARRIORS. THE PASSION BETWEEN ANNA AND CAMPBELL WAS V.E.R.Y GOOD.
    Which scene was your favorite?
IN THE BEGINNING WHEN HE FIRST MEETS ANNA AND SAVES HER LIFE.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
THE WHOLE BOOK MOVED ME. THIS IS A GREAT SERIES. EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE DIFFERENT NARRATIORS IN SOME OF MCCARTY'S BOOKS AND THEY ARE ALL VERY GOOD MCNAB DOES A GREAT JOB ON THE HIGHLAND GUARD SERIES. HE COULD IMPROVE ON THE FEMALE VOICE I THINK ( HIS VOICE IS VERY DEEP AND LOW, SENSUAL FOR THE MALE VOICES SO I OVERLOOK THE FEMALE VOICE SHORTCOMINGS.)
    Love the whole series!
Humorous as well as keeping my attention. Really great book! Wonderful story. 2nd time listening
Couldn't get into this one..not bad..just not good
While I liked the characters on their own....I just couldn't get into the relationship. I found I didn't care if they got together or not. The best part is the interaction between the Highland Guard guys... But I listened to most of this on double speed. Still moving on to the next in the series because I enjoyed the first 2 books in the series....maybe this book was just a bump in the series road for me.
    Excellent! Monica Mccarty's best series!
Oh my. I've now listened to every single McCarty book on Audible. I must say that her highland Guard series is my very favorite.
Each book is better than the last, and this one is wonderful.
If you're trying to decide where to start with Monica McCarty books, read this series. While Robert Mcnab takes some getting used to, it is well worth it. The Highland Guard series is excellent!!!
Start with The Chief, The Hawk, then The Ranger.
I am sad that the rest of the series is not available. I hope fans will write to Recorded Books, Audible and Tantor media, and let them know we are waiting for the rest of this extraordinary series.
One major flaw ruined the story, for me.
Wow, overall, I loved this tale.

    Dear Listener,
I began writing the Night Trilogy in 1987. Im very proud of all three novels. Perhaps Night Fire is my favorite, simply because its so different from the other two.
In Night Fire, Arielle Leslie is a 16-year-old forced to wed Paisley Cochrane, a sadistic old man who abuses her. When he dies, she believes herself free. But shes not.
Burke Drummond, Earl of Ravensworth, a young man shed worshipped three years before, is home from the wars, and he wants her.
Burke and Arielle are two people who have touched me deeply. Together they faced problems and obstacles never spoken of in the Regency time.
Do give Night Fire a try. See if you dont agree with me that Arielle and Burke are two very special people.

    Fabulous!!!!!!!
Where does Night Fire rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
In the top 20, because I have listened to a lot of them that I just absolutely cannot say a horrible word about.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Night Fire?
When Arielle walked in on her step sister and husband making love and after leaving the room Burke just laughing at her! I also loved, loved when Burke beat the crap out of Evan and Arielle got to punch him. She should have kicked his bollocks in!
What about Anne Flosniks performance did you like?
Every last bit!!!!!!!!!!! Anne is one of my favorite narrators so whatever book she is narrating to, I am a listener. Way to go Anne, you brought the characters to life for me and just kept me so engrossed.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The entire story did. I found myself crying and then at time chuckling or laughing out loud. I felt for Arielle with everything she went through and what she overcame. I loved Burke for everything and all that he was for Arielle. I can't wait to read more on Knight, found myself liking him a lot also.
    Any additional comments?
Read this book for the laughing moments but also for the crying.
    I love Anne Flosnik
What did you love best about Night Fire?
I love romance novels written in the late 80's and early 90's they seem to keep it more real than a lot of others. Anne Flosnik is one of the best when it comes to historical romance, this one was also funny. I'm going to purchase the rest of the series.
    Vintage Catherine Coulter
This is the first in a series, but all the books are stand-a-lone. This is not the best in the series but a good listen. The narrator is excellent. But for my recommendation read the other two first, you won't be sorry.
    No real plot
Mostly this book dealt with the overly rampant hormones of the male characters. The villain was bent on rape, the hero trying to over come the maiden's reluctance.
I love Catherine Coulter books but this book wasn't worth my time. I only hope the next in the series is up to Coulter's normal standards.
    Night Fire
All the twists and turns in the story make it enjoyable from start to finish.

I loved how much I hated everyone
    Any additional comments?
When I started this novel I didn't really like it that much, I was a little confused as to what was going on, whom was whom, and why I was even being told this tale. As I got a little bit deeper into it I admired the ability of Emily to create such interesting and detestable characters, but I was still uneasy as to if I liked the novel.
I think what I was having trouble working out was weather Emily was writing a novel that was deliberately unsettling and filled with hateful people being hateful just for hateful's sake. I recognized that the characters were well written and I enjoyed that though this is a novel predating the edict of 'show don't tell', Emily always followed a tell with a much more insightful show, yet I felt sort of miserable reading it, I hated the characters (their actions, I mean) and I kept wanting to put it down. Yet I couldn't put it down. I felt compelled to continue, to discover what the motivations were for these characters, why I was being told this story, felt compelled by the excellent and powerful writing.
And during the day when I was at work and away from the novel, I kept thinking about it, rolling the plot and situations over in my mind trying to make sense of it all. I knew I didn't yet know all the facts (in a way the novel is a bit of a mystery story) and so I just had to trust Emily to actually have a point, that she didn't write this just to be shocking but that there was true art here.
Well I'm glad I stuck it out and stayed with this one because this is an extraordinary novel. This story and these characters are people who will haunt me till the day I die - for better or worse. These are characters who though I didn't like most of them, loved them too. And that's the real art here because by the very nature of how I felt about these people could I understand their passions for each other, Hareton especially. He loved Heathcliff and also hated him and we understand why - not because there was a simple explanation for such illogical behavior, but because it is complicated.
The novel begins with very much keeping the reader in the dark because it would be impossible to know a family and all their troubles and their past after just a few pages (or hours in real life). In fact you could never hope to really know another family and all it's secrets (other than your own) if given an entire lifetime - the relationships are just far too complicated. Yet here in this novel Emily manages to reveal the secrets, the pain, the plotting, the love, and the hate page by page, slowly and with exquisite ability to make you feel the passage of time. You live with these people and you empathize with them by the end even of you can't forgive them because only they could forgive each other since it's their family.
I imagine that this novel is sort of a prototype of trashy family drama stories but nothing can come close to this.

    Let the hunt begin....
Lisa Madison wants a husband, and she has just the candidate in mind: Robert Langley. Trouble is, the infuriating man insists on seeing her as the impish girl she once was - even as every other gentleman in London has taken notice of her womanly... charms. When her beauty lands her in danger, it's Robert who comes to the rescue, only to announce his affections are not of the romantic kind!
Robert saw enough sorrow in his parents' union to know he wants nothing to do with marriage, which is exactly what he'll be trapped into if he acts on his desire for the irksome siren. And then Lisa does what Robert least expects: gives up on him! As feigned indifference gives way, blistering passion burns at last. But just before the pair can succumb to hard-won bliss, an enemy with unfinished business lurks, threatening to destroy them both.

I usually love love love L.S.'s books BUT.....
Lady stupid will have you continually rolling your eyes to the heavens saying...."..oh no, surely she isn't, she can't, she wouldn't, she's not that stupid, but alas she is and she does!! She runs off here and there, always ignoring sensible advice and gets herself in trouble which was the main storyline of a weak book. I could not empathize with her in any way because she was just so frustrating.
Coupled with that, I thought the narrator was sooo sloooow, I put the speed on my iPhone to x1 speed (which doubles the speed) and that sounded about right. I don't think the Publishing Houses give enough thought to the narrators of their books but it is SO important, they can make even a great book unbearable!
I love L. S.'s vampire books and I love romance books - Paranormal, Historical or Modern Day (hundreds by now) but I would say "don't waste your credit" but if you've listened to the others in the series and your a fan then you will probably ignore me!
    This girl is so dumb.
Would you try another book from Lynsay Sands and/or Jaime Birch?
Yes, I truly enjoyed the first story in this series. But this girl is so stupid. Can anyone be this naive?
What could Lynsay Sands have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Given the female lead a little more intelligence. She got on my last nerve.
Have you listened to any of Jaime Birchs other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes, they are about the same.
Was Husband Hunt worth the listening time?
It was a struggle to finish it. It seemed to go on and on.
    creative consistently
Where does Husband Hunt rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
In the Regency London Historical Romance category this is a good book. I didn't feel the humor as much as in Countess... but its a very good extension of it... I really did enjoy it just didn't find it AS good as countess. I'd say this one is great if I hadn't just listened to countess and immediately after listened to this one.
What other book might you compare Husband Hunt to and why?
I'd say it would fit with Stephanie Laurens and maybe even in with some Amanda Quick minus the Arcane Society.
Have you listened to any of Jaime Birchs other performances before? How does this one compare?
I haven't, but I definitely would again! There wasn't the usual adjustment time where you get used to the voice, cadence and characters. It started comfortably and stayed that way.

Destiny will be decided betweenthe sheets in this all-new tale of The Princess and the Pea.
For Olivia Lytton, betrothal to the Duke of Canterwick - hardly a Prince Charming - feels more like a curse than a happily-ever-after. At least his noble status will help her sister, Georgiana, secure an engagement with the brooding, handsome Tarquin, Duke of Sconce,a perfect match for her in every way... every way but one. Tarquin has fallen in love with Olivia.
Quin never puts passion before reason. And reason says that Georgiana is his ideal bride. But the sensual, fiery, strong-willed Olivia ignites an unknown longing in him - a desire they are both powerless to resist.
When a scandalous affair begins, they risk losing everything - Olivias engagement, her sisters friendship, and their own fragile love. Only one thing can save them - and it awaits in the bedroom, where a magnificent mattress holds life-changing answers to the greatest romantic riddle of all.

    Great Romance with a Twist
Would you listen to The Duke Is Mine again? Why?
Absolutely. Have listened several times already. A great, funny, wonderfully fascinating romantic book, with the disapproving mother-of-the-duke, and all. The characters are great with multiple twists in the plot. In the beginning, and most of the way through, you just can't figure out how all the twists will come out. The ending part was a little slow, but it was necessary to bring all the pieces together. I'd give it 4 1/2 stars out of 5.
What does Susan Duerden bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
She is just wonderful. Makes the different characters come alive. This was my first book by this author, but I bought the book half because Susan Duerden was the narrarator. She's one on the best!
    Any additional comments?
This was my first book by Eloisa James. I'm definitely buying some more books by her.
    A real surprise, loved it!
I downloaded this book from a sale, and put off listening to it. When I finally did, I had a hard time leaving it. The characters are so much fun, I loved it. The English banter is so amusing, that I found myself laughing out loud several times, along with plenty of drama. It's like watching a stage play, because most of the book is interaction of the characters. Not much in the way of history, or setting scenes, but delving into the lives and thoughts of the main characters. The narrator does a great job, with all the voices, and coming across with the wit and moods implied.
Worst romance I've read in a while.
What would have made The Duke Is Mine better?
The entire story consists of the heroine complaining about how fat she is. "I'm so fat blah blah blah. No one could love me. My breasts are too big" etc....Not only was she a fatty, but she had a terrible personality. She's rude, insensitive, and has no thought for her family.
Her twin sister is kind, funny, generous, and pretty, but no...the hero wants the mean fat chick.
The entire romance made NO sense. They had nothing in common and no mutual interests. She actually mocks the hero's interest in mathematics. The only attraction between the hero and heroine is that he gets randy looking at her fat rolls. The hero came across as some creeper browsing a fetish magazine.
Also, I didn't find it entertaining, hot or exciting to hear the heroine rattle on about her body issues.
