Werewolves and Tigers and...prehistoric earth animals? Ohh my.

When I first started this book, I was confused and off put by the drastic change in tone and scene from the previous 2 books, to the point I was afraid I'd gotten the wrong thing. Slowly the story became more cohesive and the characters grew on me. Characterization is the strength of this author and all his books, and while he only has a handful of characters in this title, their interactions are wonderful, and the arcs they go through touching and deep.

While it's really only now becoming clear where this book fits in the series, on it's own it's still a nice tale, and as the series continues and it really finds it's place in the lore with the other books, I'm sure it'll be easier to appreciate it. Overall a really nice tale, and while it's a drastic shift from the rest of the story.

So to sum up quickly:

A steady, cohesive plot with a few surprise twists.

A rich world, with a deep backstory.

Great character growth/arcs.

Cons:

If you're a fan of the new century series it can be hard to see how this fits in.

A rather limited cast.

Pacing can be a little slow at times for more characterization.

Overall a great title, and the new century series in general is amazing. RECOMMEND!

It also is one of the best books I have read in a long time

Tigerâs Eye is the latest book in Alexander Shawâs New Century series, while it is part of the series it stand on its own. It also is one of the best books I have read in a long time. It initially took me a while to get into the book as it is a jump from his other book Secret Rooms. But with each chapter I got more and more invested into this world, these characters, I worried about them whenever I finished a chapter. The plot twists and turns, keeping me on the edge of my seat wondering how it would all end up. It is a masterpiece of storytelling in my mind, and a book I suggest everyone read.

Harrowing and heartwarming, will leave you breathless.

Tiger's Eye is an amazing narrative of an alternate reality. It is the third novel in what is an incredibly heartwarming, well-researched and on-going series. The characters are diverse and relatable, the story is action packed and emotional, and the broader universe that Mr.

5 stars for this complex, beautifully crafted work

Beautifully written young adult fiction which is highly entertaining to an adult audience. Author Culey was able to transport me right along with Samantha (Sehmah) into her alternate world. I experienced Sehmah's emotions as she searched for her brother. With a mystical land as backdrop Sehmah encountered rich, complex characters along her journey.

It's a great read if you can't get the characters out of your head and Samantha and Jonathan and their story continue to remain in my thoughts.

I gave Sehmah's Truth 5 stars. It was a complex story with fascinating characters and imagery that were a joy to read and I look forward to reading more work from this author.

This is a good book, but a sad one

This is a good book, but a sad one.

Samantha is missing Jonathan, her brother, after he passed away. She is whisked away to a magical world she created with him as children and she is searching for him after she gets there. The world she created is not what she expects when she gets there, but we learn a good bit about the history of that world throughout the novel.

It jumps around a good bit, but it doesn't take you out of the story as you learn characters pasts and some are not what you think they are. Good guys can be bad guys and bad guys good

Trust Beneath the Willow

Stick with me for this review (if you feel so inclined). Because I was wrong about this book. It's quite a journey. Trust me on this but you can trust this author... That's why I gave it four stars.

Ok. So...

If you're one of those unbearably jolly people, read this book. If you're low and lonely, read it to understand that other people feel the same. On the other hand, if you're feeling a slightly down, a touch grumpy, don't read this book.

This book is bleak. The first third of this book is really bleak. Not Morrissey and the Smiths pretty pretty, tongue-in-cheek, self aware bleak. It's like a primal scream. The imagery it uses is dark, straight to the point - ash, high impenetrable walls, dead forests. It is Bleak. (Note the capital B). You have no idea if there will be a light at the end of tunnel, and if there is, whether it's a train or not.

That's not to say the writing is bland or blunt. AJ Culey writes straight, clear prose gilded with poetic touches. A phrase that stuck with me early on was the description of a character "aged with sadness".

A young woman is battered with the grief of losing her twin brother. Her aunt has attempted to care for her but it proves too much.

The story writing is excellent!

You can tell that the author has fighting experience with the description of battles. The world is expertly crafted. I love the quotes at the beginning of each chapter!

Classic heroic fantasy .

Read the book about a year ago and noticed recently this was available on audio, as someone who drives for a living I find a decent story is great for helping the miles go by. I have to say I am loving this again, the story itself appeals to me, it is a nice mix of fantasy containing dragons, fighting and politics within a great story and we'll wrote.

The narrator is perfect, he has that deep gruff voice that just captures the characters and general story perfectly.

Personally I would highly recommend Onin to anyone who likes their heroic fantasy. As a long time fan of authors like David Eddings, David Gemmell and Raymond Feist I can't help but see Jack McCarthy joining the list of great fantasy authors in the future.

Absolutely Perfect Read

Masters of Blood and Bone is a hard work to pin-down, so steeped is it in a multitude of genres that it defies simple categorization. Craig Saunders has taken the detective genre, by way of urban paranormal noir, and run it through the blender with a strong measure of high fantasy, and written with a deft, contemplative style ripe with intense imagery.

Honestly, Iâm not sure that I can adequately write about this work, because itâs one of those books that you just need to read for yourself and experience. Go drown yourself in the words and let those inky worms crawl over your flesh and consume you. (Trust me, that will make more sense after you read this bookâ)

Taking center stage in Saundersâs narrative is a fat ex-cop named Holland. When we meet him, heâs reading a book of significant power, and by the time his seventeen-year-old daughter, Ank, reads some of it, the damage has been done. An ancient wizard had cast himself into the bookâs pages long ago, and Holland has inadvertently unlocked its cage. Now, his daughter is missing and an old evil is loose in the world.

Saunders has a terrific writing voice, and heâs able to blend these disparate genres seamlessly. I absolutely loved the twists of turns, and pitting a hard-boiled PI against ancient gods of lore in an effort to save his daughter was perfectly mesmerizing. I also really loved the characters â Holland is a great protagonist and his daughter is a wonderful character filled with an agency of her own. Ank is a real spit-fire and a far cry from the damsel in distress, despite being trapped in a rather peculiar and threatening situation.

In short, I found Masters of Blood and Bone to be a perfect read, and I loved every page of it. Thereâs just so much literary panache and noir-cool that itâs utterly impossible for me to not fall in love with this book. Iâm keeping my fingers crossed for a return to this world in the near-future, and I think it could make for a fantastic series if Saunders is willing. Highly recommended.

An Excellent Dark Fantasy

There's this phrase I've seen in blurbs on old King paperbacks that I've always wondered about: "compulsively readable." I've never been sure what that phrase means, but I want to use it now...

Masters of Blood and Bone by Craig Saunders is compulsively readable. Saunder's writing style is snappy and fluid. It is fast-paced and violent, yet there's also depth. Great storytelling and characters. An excellent dark fantasy.

A Dark Mythological Mashup

This is...a weird book. The story follows two characters: Holland, an assassin that works in the supernatural world (though it's never made clear whether he himself is supernatural or just an extraordinary human) and his daughter Ank (who is definitely supernatural).

Are you Lonely in the Dark? (Billy Squier)

This story had me on the edge of my seat throughout. The plot was well defined and gave this reader what it would be like in a future where war destroys everything we hold dear to us (and sometimes take for granted). The action was fast paced with little let down with danger around every corner. The story brings me back to the Road Warrior movie.

1st of this authors

This is the first book I've read from this author. I enjoyed all the characters. The story keeps you wanting to read on. I've already got the other books in the series. Looking forward to finishing the story.

Great start to a series

Great start to a series. I enjoyed the young protagonist having to deal with decisions beyond his level of maturity. Book one leaves some mystery to the characters, so I'm looking forward to book two.

Enter the Dark (if you dare)

I just got done reading "Enter the Dark"--cool book! Easy ready but suspenseful enough to make me want to hurry and finish it! If you like Hunger Games this one will make you wonder what is ahead for us here in the U.S. Ron makes you feel as if this is happening to you!

Great read! I couldn't put the book down once I started reading it. I read it in a day, choosing to stay up and finish it instead of getting well rested. I don't regret it. I look forward to the next one.

It was similar in style to the Hunger Games and other dystopian novels. It was easy to read, exciting, and full of tension.

Imagainative, Incomplete Story Line Irritates and Entices

The book's conclusion is so irritating that I almost disregarded the good this book offers. Once again, a text is created with no independent story within the publication; instead, the book creates characters and provides a setting with background information for a conclusion that will undoubtedly be available in the final installment of the book. While this book was free, the imagination and creativity within its pages are almost forgotten when the last page is turned with no resolution to any primary story line within this initial installment of the saga. The author provides good, interesting characters together with a story and dynamic personalities that could be more appropriately lauded should the tale have had at least one story line where the reader thinks, "Well, that was worth the reading." Instead, the conclusion compels one to either read the next installment, or more, at cost, to learn whether the author provides a complete tale that has value beyond an inconclusive plot line colorfully detailed along the way. While the story line, thus far, is good, and there are numerous needs for grammatical editing, the author has forced me to buy another book in order to learn all these things that should have had at least one story line completed in this first book. A good, incomplete story line involving nebulous fealty to long-time friends and short-time acquaintances, magical events being played by characters whose motives are questionable, and families being torn apart by murderous acts within a setting of war against innocents, while needing grammatical editing, influenced enough of my interest to entice me to buy that second installment--a feat that has rarely occurred with similarly poor conclusion.

Scarred Girl Doesn't Score

I really wanted to like this book. Where was the editing. The writing is so uneven; the sense of time is so poorly presented; the heroine is too thin. I loved some of the figurative language, but it was too occasional.
