    Powerhouse
Nice, wholesome, easy to read book. Not laugh out loud funny but humorous.
    Great read
Fast paced book with likable characters. Fun to read and provides a good message. I read it in one sitting. I think you'll enjoy it.
    Four Stars
    Cute read
    Family fun???
Just too weird, and actually don't know if there was violence, bad language, or sexual content. Couldn't get beyond a few pages. Kinda "out there" beyond where I could soar. Some stories are for family only, and I think this must be one of them.. lol
    I well written book
I thought it was well writtenand showed imagination and held interest ,the story line was well thought out and easy to follow

It is best to read them in sequence
Changespell Legacy book 3, finishes the story that was started in the first book. About a alternate world and the animals and people who populate it and what happens when a magic spell on the one world sends a horse to our world, and when she arrives she is a young woman. With no idea how to speak or anything. She alternates between her horse self and human, when she is transported back to her on world. And she is trying to help there to keep the magic there from getting out of whack.I have read all 3 of the books, It is best to read them in sequence, but not necessary. When I read the first one I immediately bought the second, and had to wait for the 3 one of the series, A GREAT read.
great story, but be careful as the cover is wrong
Having read a free book by Ms Durgin and loved it, I downloaded several more, Including this series. The first book is fantastic, and I couldn't wait to read more. However, Because both the second and third books have the cover of the second book, I ended up reading the 3rd book before the second. After all, it SAID it was the second book. This made the supposed second seem to assume too much and jump forward over things not explained. When I opened what I though would be the third book and read it I realized it was actually the second, and it filled in the spots that had seemed to be jumped over. Then, because I like Jess and the other characters I went back and re-read the third book. IN sequence it all made sense, and was as good as the first book.
So Amazon, fix the covers please. Readers, this series is just great, but much better if read in order. be VERY careful that you are reading the second book, as in this case you really cannot tell a book by its cover.
A must read for horse people!
Loved the three novels in The Changespell Saga. Absolutely captivated by the story line of a mare "changespelled" into a woman while retaining her "horsenality". I couldn't put them down! Identified so much with my mares. A must read for anyone who has had the privilege of having a horse in their lives. Traveling back and forth between the world as we know it and a world of magic you quickly become engrossed with the characters and their stories. Was sorry when the saga came to an end.
    Changespell Legacy
I never thought I would like book like Doranna Durgin has written in The Changespell Saga, but I have found them quite interesting. They are fast moving with excellent plots. Being an equestrian rider I quickly connected with the characters, especially Dun Lady Jess (the horse) and Jess the human. Everything was "spot On".

    Barrenlands, great adventure read
Doranna Durgin's "Barrenlands" is full of adventure, magic, and mayhem. Laine can see magic, making him valuable to the caravan trying to take shortcuts through land where old magic spells remain. He guides them safely around magic traps. This trip he is accompanied by his 15 year old sister, Shette.
Meanwhile, King Benlan is murdered and the head of the King's guard, Ehren, isn't there to protect him. He has since spent the last year looking for the Killers and who was behind the plot. The court Wizard, however, has another job for Ehren, find a couple who ran off years ago, who happen to be missing royals, and make sure they aren't a danger to the new king.
Both story lines converge with new evil magics, sword adventures, twists and turns in the plot. The action is fast but the reader is still given time to explore the characters and care about what happens to them.
The end is a little predictable, the climatic ending is a little rushed, but overall this is an excellent fantasy read. If you are looking for the best of Durgan, I suggestDun Lady's Jess: Changespell, Book 1but this is a great introduction to her writing style and story telling abilities.
    Recommended
    Very light read
I found "Barrenlands" light read on all accounts.
There isn't explanation for why or how magic works, just some spells that are not very impressive.
Slow adventure with occasional light swordplay.
Two-dementional characters that had some promise to grow and develop but never did.
"Barren lands" have a feel of fantasy/romance appropriate for a young female reader with a romance part only hinted on.
Finally, resolution to big conspiracy was just too simple and predictable in the end.
    Excellent
Exciting and well written, one of the most enjoyable stories with real people and real horses portrayed with vigor and attention to the surrounding world. This author is one I will seek for and recommend!
    Made me a fantasy reader
I've never been a reader of the fantasy genre but I will be now. When I finished the book and wanted to read another of Durgin's books immediately--I didn't want to leave the world she had created. The characters seemed so real to me and I enjoyed the settings that the author created. I empathized with Ehrin and felt his pain over the loss of his friend and got attached to the family he was supposed to kill right along with him. I knew that somehow he would find a way to do the right thing but wasn't sure how he would accomplish it. I will be reading more of this series for sure.
Solid published author now sharing her backlist
Ms. Durgin has a knack for writing, which is why she has published so many books with major publishers (I know mainly the ones from Baen since SF and Fantasy are my preferred genres.) But now she's sharing her backlist through the Kindle which I think is a great idea. I've gotten to reread books I haven't seen in years. All of her books are readable. This one really reminds me of Andre Norton in her prime.

which is a good thing as I like to read a lot
The delivery was significantly ahead of schedule, which is a good thing as I like to read a lot. The book itself, however, doesn't live up to Tim Waggoner's earlier Eberron works. The pacing of this book is significantly faster than it should be, the overall scope of the story is much too small for the topic (the Daelkyr are near-Epic threats, and a Dolgaunt is hardly a good threat to convey this).
    Abryssal plague book
Trying to complete my Abyssal Plague book collection
    So so Lady Ruin
A stand alone story that is very confined to a single event. Would have liked to know more background on the characters and why it was necessary to try this experiment in the first place. What was the prior relationship between Eberron and Xoriat? Is there a history here? It was an easy read and would have liked to see a bit of a different ending that might suggest a sequel story.

    Excellent & Overlooked Classic SciFi/Fantasy
Full appreciation for what this book & series encompass must include a special call-out to its original pub date in the mid-late 80's. Despite that age, it reads like a book written today.
From the first few pages (5 minutes, for we listeners) tropes are humorously undermined and turned upside down without descending to the absurd. Maximilian the Vaguely Disreputable subverts the "rogue" charcter trope just by his name.
But it isn't just that: This book treats with "on the ground" human (well, not always) level reality of living in a world where The Gods are real, they are interested in humans, and humans are advised not to be too interesting: The second chapter (not quite a spoiler, but yer' warned) shows what happens when the mortals seek a bit of certainty with their day-to-day lives for something like insurance: Only the gods can underwrite a policy with any solid guarantee, which may cause problems for anyone looking to abuse, or is thought to have abused, the good will of the insurance company....
I could go on and explain more ways in which this book was both ahead of its time and on the cutting-edge of the modern world, but not without actual spoilers. It comes down to this: It is both funny & thought-provoking with engaging characters & plot. It does this without all of the reactionary Princes & White Knights saving kingdoms and damsels that still occasionally plague the genre..It nudges even today's boundaries for well-worn tropes, and for a book nearly 30 years old, that's saying something.
It's no wonder it wasn't popular in its time: The audience that would enjoy it could barely read, if they were born at all, when it was first published. Just 5 years later and it would have shaken the industry and been almost avante-garde, 10 years and it would have simply been your typical best-seller.

Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 3 votes
Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Fantasy: Epic
    Publisher's Summary:
In a strange realm, Roan was the strangest of all - because he always looked the same: normal. Dreamland was the place where sleepers in the "real" world went when they dreamed, and the permanent residents might change their form without warning. In dreams, there's nothing unusual about talking to a giant rabbit who suddenly turns into a living fire hydrant without missing a beat in the conversation. But Roan was always...Roan. And that was very bizarre.
But something sinister is going on in Dreamland. Their constantly changing world is created by the Seven Sleepers, and will continue to exist so long as at least one of the Sleepers is asleep and dreaming. Now someone is out to destroy Dreamland by eliminating them. And unless the nightmare plot is foiled, Dreamland and its inhabitants will vanish like a blown-out candle flame, bringing an end to all dreams....

An Odd Story Set in an Odd Land
In the Dreamland, everything is based on the whim of the Seven Sleepers. Everything is constantly changing: the land, the weather, the way people look, even their sexes. To the inhabitants of Dreamland, all of this is normal. What *isn't* normal is Roan. Roan doesn't change. He has looked the same all his life. Now, some of the scientists from Dreamland have decided to try and wake the Sleepers. The general belief throughout Dreamland is that without the dreams of the Sleepers, Dreamland would cease to exist. These scientists want to test that theory, even at the cost of their existence. It's now up to Roan and his friends to stop them. The setting of this novel is refreshing in its uniqueness. However, it seems that in an attempt to make the novel longer, Roan and his friends are faced with obstacle after obstacle, each more ridiculous than the last. Almost invariable, Roan somehow manages to save the day. Granted, the whole premise for this novel is farfetched, but it started getting out of hand. The ending, on the other hand, is interesting and was totally unexpected. Read this book because it's different, but don't expect anything too involved or in-depth.
For a fantasy book it was pretty good.
Alright, fantasy books are not my style, but in my defence, I was desperate. However though I liked this one! Roan is a compelling and caring character, although it is hard to believe someone could be that ultruistic. Interesting background. The minor character's became confusing at times, but what can you expect when everything and everyone is in a state of permament flux(is that an oxymoron? or a double negative?) :) Waking in dreamland is good, school of light, the sequel, is skipable.
    Disappointingly Bland
Jody Lynn Nye is a normally talented, wonderful author. Her books are a fun read. This was the exception, and the sequel isn't much better. The book meandered through Dreamland, and seems as if it is a poorly designed take-off of Neverending Story (the movie, not the book). It is confusing, with numerous 'save the day' rescues by Roan and his crew. Stick with other of Ms. Nye's works, and avoid this one!
    LOVED IT!
I really loved this book! It had an incredible and totally suprising ending! I love Nye's writing style and I hope she continues to write books based in Dreamland.
    Formula Fantasy with no surprises
A bitter disapointment from a normally talented author.

    The King of Spooky Returns!
The Restless Shore is the second in The Wilds series, an open ended series detailing adventures in some of Faerun's untamed lands ravaged by the Spell Plague. If you check out Mr. Davis's previous work, Bloodwalk, and The Shield of Weeping Ghosts you will see why I call him the King of Spooky. His stories have a deliciously eerie feel to them that keep you glancing over your shoulder and looking under the bed before you go to sleep.
The central plot of the book is a small group journeying to Tohrepur, a city in the Splellplague changed Akanul, in search of a kidnapped girl, all the while being pursued by the relentless Choir. Two of the characters suffer from past experiences in this region that still torment them. This keeps the reader plowing through to find out what happened to them and how they will end up. There are nightmareish creatures, deadly battles, and characters that you are not sure can be trusted. All of this combined with a nightmare landscape that seems bent on destroying them.
One of the best things about this book was the pervasive feeling of dread the characters experienced. They are hounded by horrible creatures, their past, and the very landscape itself can prove fatal. It adds a certain gravity to the story that made it hard to put down.
Hats off to Mr. Davis for another excellent addition to the Forgotten Realms. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good nightmare.
I read a lot of books
I liked this series of books. They were very interesting and kept me captivated. I couldn't wait to read the next one.
Like most fantasy novels this one is about the perilous ...
Like most fantasy novels this one is about the perilous journey against all odds of survival. But there are fights in the book the are perdicatable and after a while they just seem like filler until the climax at the end.
    Repetitive and boring
I can normally go through a novel in a day or two. This one took me twice as long. Although the story starts with the promise of being exciting and fun, it quickly devolves into repetition - run, fight, dream, run, fight, dream. I found myself skipping paragraphs and even whole pages without ever losing the story line. I never felt sympathy/empathy for the characters. I could never lose myself in the story, so I never really enjoyed it. A shame really.
    Good realms novel
The Restless Shore is the second book in the series of stand alone novels called The Wilds. The first book is The Fanged Crown by Jenna Helland and the next ones are The Edge of Chaos by Jak Koke due out in August and Wrath of the Blue Lady by Mel Odom with a release date of December. Wrath of Chaos by Mel Odom
Wrath of the Blue Lady by Mel Odom- This is the fourth and final book in The Wilds series of stand-alone novels set in the Forgotten Realms universe. She discovers that Shang-Li may have the knowledge and skill to translate these books and slowly lures him into her territory. In order to get the books back and into safe hands, Shang-Li and his father, set out to recover the books.
    Negatives:
    1) Cliffhanging Chapters. There are times in which having a cliffhanger is wonderful. These times usually are separated by another scene or are pick up after a few pages, causing them to build up excitement. Then there is the chapter endings in Wrath of the Blue Lady. It seems that most of the chapters end in a boring cliffhanger that is directly resumed on the next page. No suspense, no excitement is gain and it gets old fast. I don't know how many times I had to suffer with reading that Shang-Li sees a blade, only to read on the next page that he shifted to his left. It doesn't build up anything and it kind of halts the pacing and flowing nature of the story.
    2) Flowing Scenes. Many scenes don't really fit together. Most of the action scenes for examples seem rigid and confusing. Then there is the pointless dialogue inserted here and there, and it causes some scenes to drag on longer than they should have. When you read a scene, you kind of expect it to flow without any random jumps or interruptions. Here however, there is either a time jump or a odd interruption.

    A good conclusion
The Emerald Scepter" is the final book of the "Scions of Arrabar" trilogy, set in Chondath. The previous two books had a fantastic and unpredictable plot, supported by a large number of more or less average characters, speaking in terms of development, of course.
This novel picks off just where the last one ended. Reid throws even more twists into the story, keeping the high standard he set in previous installments. The last third-or-so of the book deals with tying loose ends and brings a satisfying end to the whole story.
Reid throws an emphasis on development of his protagonists, maybe something he should've done earlier. Two main characters, Vambran and his sister Emriana, get "fleshed out" only in the third installment of the series. Better ever than never, I guess. Same can be told of the villain, Junce Roundface.
Otherwise, Reid keeps the fast pace we got used to in previous books, combat scenes are compact and short, as are the descriptions of places and characters.
"The Scions of Arrabar" is a good trilogy, truly highlighted by the masterfully woven plot. I give it four stars, the same I give to this book, although the second book was the best of the lot in my opinion.
    Check it out.

The book was really good, I was looking at reading a different series but was be was pleasantly surprised when I found this trilogy. I would recommend this series.
Best Triology of the Forgotten Realms Role Playing Book Series
It has everything you what in a Sword and Sorcery Book and does not fall short. The previous 2 books leading to this third and last book are just as good. I'll be revisiting this trilogy a couple more times.
I read a lot of books
Most of the Forgotten Realms or D&D books I read are the same in that they are fine and good for passing the time. I find it's necessary to know all the background info in order to understand the next book that comes out. It was good, but nothing really exciting.
