Just as good in German as in English.
Would you consider the audio edition of Der Weitseher (Die Weitseher-Trilogie 1) to be better than the print version?
As I have not been reading German for long I find it easier to follow when both listening and reading together. When just reading the temptation is to look up every word one does not know, but when listening as well the flow carries you through and encourages you to get meaning from context instead. I have noticed significant improvement in my listening comprehension along the way and can now listen and understand without the book alongside.
Have you listened to any of Matthias Lühns other performances? How does this one compare?
No I haven't and I'm not particularly keen to do so as I don't like the voices he creates for the characters. I prefer a more neutral performance. His voice is good and clear and pleasant, but the character voices grate on one's nerves. It doesn't entirely spoil the book but reduces one's enjoyment of it somewhat.

    Publisher's Summary:
This "Fantasy of Manners" follows the lives and intrigues of four very different characters as they maneuver the cobblestone streets and glittering ballrooms of a city that never was. Nameless, but inspired by Elizabethan London, 18th-century Paris, 1980s New York, and many others great cities both real and fictional, the setting of Tremontaine comes alive behind the colorful figures of Micah, Rafe Fenton, Ixkaab Balam, and, of course, Diane, the duchess of Tremontaine, a character well met in the original series but whose history has remained a mystery until now.

    From strength to strength
The Tremontaine saga continues. The plot thickens, more mysteries of the world are revealed, and yet more questions appear. I'll be waiting with bated breath for the next chapter.
    Not my type of story
The story was not something I enjoyed reading.
    Good episode
(This book was sent to me through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review)
This episode focused more on Kaab and the customs of her people.
There's still a lot of world building going on but the plot is starting to develop. In this episode, the reader discovers some of the conflicts going on in the city and some of the nobility's gossip.
The plot is still slow but I'm really enjoying getting to know more about the characters so that, when something big happens, I won't get lost.
I think this series has real potential ans I'm eager to read the next episodes.

    Street urchin rescue
This is a short but unusually interesting audiobook about a street urchin rescued by a kind, powerful benefactor. It is a story that tells more of compassion and kindness to others, than a definitive plot. The action in the story feels secondary, like a byline rather than integral to the story. I was not keen on the narration, I found his voice distracting. The sing-song, somewhat drawn out quality of his voice failed to impart the any tension, emotion or action for me. Having said all this I did enjoy this story but, even though the author wrapped up the threads at the end, it still felt incomplete, feeling a bit like a long prequel to a much bigger story. I received the audiobook at no cost and under no obligation to review.
Street Fox is Street SmartWise and Clever
Where does Street Fox rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
The deep meaning and hope is sturdy. It provides a strong foundation in the Erdemen world building. I'm intrigued to check out the series, which a short, in-between, or prequel usually fails to move me to do. I enjoyed the story, not the narration.
What did you like best about this story?
The hope, kindness, and goodwill of those who have towards a young man who has nothing. It's part of the calling to the full length novels, with the promise of fully developed, well-rounded characters.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
No. the narrator read it like it was a poem. Yet flatter and dull. I wouldn't pick up another audio with this narrator.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
It's less than 45 minutes and took me two mornings to complete, to start my day with my cup of coffee. With a different narrator, I may have been more eager to listen while I prepared for work.
    Any additional comments?
The talented C.J. Brightley has brought a whole world into a short story. I can't recommend this audio, but would suggest picking up the ebook!
    an interesting story
This prequel is a short story about a street kid, who is taken into the home of a Good Samaritan
    Victoria Palmer's Review.
such a heartwarming tale fit for the whole family. Who could resist an irresistible orphan? I highly recommend it. great storyline, vivid unforgettable characters and plenty of suspense. I enjoyed the narration. You'll be hooked.
Please sir, I want some more...
What did you love best about Street Fox?
The story was outstanding. I am in love even without it being Jolly Ole London.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Street Fox?
When Fox accepted an embrace, brought on a glimmer of tears.
What aspect of Fred Wolinskys performance would you have changed?
It was actually a bit irritating. Had the story not been so wonderful, I would have stopped listening.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
    Family goes beyond blood.
    Any additional comments?
I KNOW there is more to the tale and the writer needs to just behave and GIVE IT UP!!!!! Free Audiobook given. Great review earned. Kudos!!!

    More black bat action!
One of the greatest pulp action heroes is back in four brand-new adventures. Tony Quinn, blind defense attorney and police consultant, is the crime-busting vigilante known as the Black Bat. He is aided by the lovely Carol Baldwin, former con-artist Silk Kirby, and ex-boxer Butch O'Malley. Together they battle the underworld of New York City, fearlessly putting their lives at risk to champion justice.
In this third volume, the Black Bat faces a mystic swami said to possess arcane powers, boards a high speed train to foil a gang's bold attempt to rescue their captured boss, and offers his services to protect the life of a famous Broadway personality threatened with death. New pulp writers Greg Hatcher, Gene Moyers, Gordon Dymowski, and Erik Franklin have captured all the action and thrills that were hallmarks of the early pulps and delivered a quartet of amazing Black Bat exploits pulp fans will cherish.

    Five Stars
    great
    Black Bat
At this point, I've read several of these revived pulp hero short story collections from Airship 27, and I think this one is my favorite. It's quite a strong collection of stories featuring the titular hero. The Black Bat is one of many similar pulp heroes who appeared in the 1930s, similar to the Shadow or the Spider, but there's a few twists that make him unique - and for those who enjoy and/or are familiar with super-hero comics, you'll find that the Black Bat is in some ways an amalgamation of Batman (obviously), Dr. Mid-Nite and Marvel's Daredevil.
All of the contributers in this volume made an effort to capture the style of the old pulps, and generally succeeded. By far my favorite story is the first, "None So Blind" by Greg Hatcher, and also Erik Franklin's "The Dark Magician." Both contain not only the expected pulpy action, but also the Bat using his wits to take down his adversaries (in both cases, people claiming to possess supernatural abilities). Moyers' "Death on the Rails" is pretty much non-stop action - and amusing to read while riding in to work on a tram. Dymowski's "The Magnificent Anderson" focuses on the Broadway scene in the 1930s, and some of the characters are analogs for actual historical personalities. I suppose my only criticism here would be that this story would have been well-served by an additional read-through by a proof-reader/copy editor prior to publication. However, that doesn't take anything away from my overall positive impression of this book - and the illustrations, both the cover by Graham Hill and especially the interior artwork by Marco Santiago, are outstanding.
    Fantastic.
The Black Bat... Such a great character! Part Batman, part Daredevil, but with guns! This was my first foray into reading one of these new pulp collections, but it definitely will not be my last. I'm hooked!

    Old Friends and New Adventures
Mathias has certainly established himself as a significant voice in the YA genre, particularly in the magic, mayhem, and adventure niche. I thoroughly enjoyed The Rise of the Dragon King, and despite the fact that it is clearly intended for younger readers, there is plenty for anyone to enjoy, particularly old fantasy lovers that still can't put a book down if there are dragons, wizards, and a new fantasy world to explore. I have read a few other Mathias book in the past, and I must admit that I enjoyed those a bit more than this one. I felt like some of the writing felt a bit flat in this 5th Dragoneer book, although it was still a highly entertaining read. The new characters were a breath of fresh air and it was interesting to see how they folded into the established plot lines of characters that have been around for a few installments already. I think that takes a lot of skill from an author, which I certainly admire in Mathias. Blending new ideas and seamlessly making them work with old characters can be challenging, but this author has the talent to draw a reader into every new adventure. Although there were some rough spots in the Rise of the Dragon King, I'll certainly chase down the next Mathias book and try again. I'm a sucker for this sort of adventure, and perhaps I identify with King Richard a bit more than I care to admit....it's a great series and I'd recommend it for anyone, whether you're young or young at heart - it's worth the read.
    Loved the book, Highly recommend!
This was a good read, I honestly couldnât stop reading. The story is intense and the characters development are excellent where you can't wait to know what's next. Mathias is a fantastic author who writes with such purpose that the reader can't help but be drawn into the epic journey and is left always wanting more. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Knights, magic, dragons and the tease of an ending. Every chapter will leave you on a cliff and pushing the pages until you can find the answers only to discover that those answers lead to more questions and the need to pursue more conquests....The suspense keeps the story moving. If you do pick it up though, I guarantee you will want to read more from the author. A great novel for young adults!
MY SON AND I LOVE THIS BOOK! MUST HAVE!
This is one that was hard for me to stop reading. Highly recommended for those who love sorcery, dragons, spells, mystery and adventure! I read this book after my teenage son and his friends read it. My neighbor is a huge Mathias fan so my son and I wanted to get on the banwagon.

    Publisher's Summary:
Crusading attorney Anthony Quinn believed his career was over when a criminal threw acid into his face, blinding him. Months later, desperate to regain his sight, Quinn underwent a unique transplant operation which gave him the eyes of a slain lawman. Not only did the procedure work, but it also gave Quinn the ability to see in the dark. Using this fantastic gift, he created the Black Bat, a justice-seeking vigilante able to battle those villains beyond the reach of the law. Aided by his team of loyal crime-fighters, Carol Baldwin, Silk Kirby and Butch O'Leary, the Black Bat is once again on the prowl; his target, the depraved and evil denizens of his beloved city.
New pulp writers, Aaron Smith, Joshua Reynolds, Jim Beard, and Frank Byrns offer up a deadly quartet of fast-paced action thrills - stories that pit the Black Bat against super human Nazi monsters, corrupt politicians involved with Major League Baseball, and team him with another classic pulp legend, Jim Anthony, the Super Detective. Black Bat Mystery Vol. Two is another great pulp collection from the high flying Airship 27 Productions you won't want to miss.
    Members Reviews:
New collection of stories of this classic pulp hero
Once again, Airship 27 assembles a great collection of new short stories of a classic pulp hero. This is their second volume of stories with the Black Bat.
The Black Bat was a lesser pulp hero, but still well remembered. He was part of the 'third wave' of pulp heroes, most of whom could have been comic book characters. The Black Bat wore a costume similar to Batman, who came out around the same time. Unlike what is shown in most artwork, his has a full face mask (the cover and interior artwork correctly shows this). What makes the BB most interesting is that he was really former DA Tony Quinn, who was blinded when a criminal threw a vial of acid in his face (shades of Two-Face). A secret procedure gave him the eyes of a slain sheriff, and he was able to see in the dark. This, added to his heighten senses from when he was blind gave him a clear advantage over his foes. He is aided by Carol Baldwin (daughter of that slain sheriff), who is a possible love interest, and 2 reformed criminals: "Silk" Kirby a former con artist, and Butch O'Leary, a former pugilist. There is also Capt McGrath, who is sure that Tony is really the Black Bat, and tries to prove he can really see. This provides a little comic relief in the stories.
He ran in 60 some issues of "Black Book Detective" from 1939 to 53 (outliving many other characters). Now in the public domain, several have taken to writing new stories of the BB, sometimes teaming him with other pulp heroes. Moonstone is doing a comic with him, and Airship 27 has now started this new anthology series and Altus Press is doing a new complete reprint series (along with the Black Bat Companion).
This collection has 4 stories by several experience neopulp authors.
The first story pits the Black Bat against Nazi spies and a deadly poison. This is a good, solid Black Bat story, and for first time readers will introduce the main characters in this series.
The second story pits the Black Bat against "Super-Detective" Jim Anthony, another PD pulp character, in a story dealing with dirty cops.

Author Kayla Larson brings a new world to stark life surrounded by ever-present death in her debut novel and the first in a series, The Wolf Warriors from Pro Se Productions.
    Members Reviews:
Tons of action. Needs more character moments.
The writer has a distinct formula that becomes predictable after the first few chapters. As exhausting as it was to experience an epic fight every single chapter with few moments of rest, the characters did feel unique and charming. The world itself is very interesting with a history that can sometimes steal your attention from the main plot. Johnson's narration was definitely my least favorite part. Male characters sound like pro wrestlers and female characters were a bit distracting even comical due to his higher pitched imitations. This quite often stole emotion from important dialogue, which in turn limited Larson's story telling.
Overall there were more things I enjoyed about The Wolf Warriors than not. At around 7 hours, this story can be told in one day and I recommend a go at it. The action scenes, although over packed, are a lot of fun.

    Book 3
What was one of the most memorable moments of Hell's Belles 3?
To continue the story from the cliff hanger in book 2. Loved learning more about the backgrounds of some of the main characters. I hope there are more books in this series.
    intriguing
Great story line love the historic references. I read all three in the series in two days. If your not a believer of people living for ever this will change your outlook. I am a firm believer in the healing powers of mother earth and the roots around us.
I received this free from the author for an honest review.
    Revealing of the Past Continues
Hell's Belles Book Three ended with an attempt to Emma's life. Emma is now recuperating at Frogmore Island. She is saved by Dr. Ibis who is more of a voodoo doctor than a doctor. More of Hell's Belles past are revival.
Emma is realizing her role with the Hell's Belles. She is the weak link until she learns how to use her power. Book Three leaves with a cliff hanger. Readers/Listeners would want to follow Emma to discover each pieces of the Hell's Belles and as Emma discovers roles and while hiding from her enemies. Hopefully the author will continue this series in Summer 2016.
The narrator, Rebecca Schwab continues narrating the story. It is amazing how the narrator could still keep the voices distinguish for all the characters in the story. Not one voice sounds the same for any characters. She does a very good performance as the narrator.
I was given this book by the author via Audiobook Blast in exchange of an honest review. I was not compensated or influenced in any way for writing this review.
    It was good
They could have explained some things better because they always would hint at some big mystery. The narrator did a great job. It was something that helped pass the time. I did receive this series free for my honest and unbiased opinion.
    Felt Incomplete
Would you try another book from Alison Perry and/or Rebecca Schwab?
    No
What did you like best about this story?
I liked the concept but did not like that it felt like it was incomplete.
What does Rebecca Schwab bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
She brings clear and concise reading. Easy to understand and listen to.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
    No
    Any additional comments?
