A wet July followed by a wet August, and there is a melancholic air to the set, which I couldn’t work out, but then I found my way to a song by Sinead, and realised she’d been ghosting into that mix from the get go.

A sunny Sunday afternoon, in Groovetown studios and we start with one of the greatest bluesmen, Howlin Wolf, and that brings us to ZZ Top and and Beatles with the bluesy funk of Billy Preston on keys. Then Fela Kuti has been on our mind for a while, and we follow the beat and the Rhythm of Afrobeat, till we conlude that Rhytham is indeed a mystery.

Groove on the Wireless Volume 2 – show 37
Dr. Groove fell back in love with Jazz this week, with the amazing performance of Amaro Freitas in the Sugar Club on Wednesday. He then followed that up with The Dirty Jazz Club, who have been plying their trade in Arthur’s bar, with a monthly residency on the last Saturday of the month. They were in sublime form last night, finishing with a jazzy Fela Kuti number. So this show, is all about the wonderful sound that we call Jazz.

Sunday 23rd April 19:00hrs
Groove on the Wireless Volume 2 – show 36
Dr. Groove savoured the atmosphere of record store day, by being in Spindizzy and picking up some vinyl. We start with a classic, and tunes from it and bookend the first set. ‘It is in the collectives that we find resevoirs of hope and optimism.’ Angela Davis – remember that as we move on through the rains of April.

Some days and then some weeks, you get wet and you think that the rain is never going to stop, but it does. This show was recorded after being subjected to days off rain, and it might be why we started with Misery is the River of the World. But we dance our way back to sunshine by the end.

It feels like we’ve emerged from another plague Winter. I was bathed in sunshine last Sunday in Croker, and I had the need for sunglasses. I wear them all the time, but have no need of them, until Sunday. Appreciate every one of the Springs that gets sprung in front of your eyes.

Groove on the Wireless Volume 2 – show # 33
Dr. Groove brings you a chatty show, dicussing the importance of DIY in the punk ethos, amongst other things. We start heavy, and I mean proper heavy, with Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs – and then punk or post punk, through some jazz-funk-disco and end up with some white boy soul courtesy of Bowie when he was digging himself out of that cocaine hole in LA.

Groove on the Wireless Volume 2 – show # 32
Dr. Groove, always the misfit, on the importance of finding your tribe. I’ve been labeled as an old punk, and whilst I might not look it, that fits. The old skull & crossbones flies all over this world as my tribe is international, global. You often find them in those wild unlikely places, like North Connaught as they’re escaping from the man and his square thinking rules.
