In this episode of the Driveway Marketing Podcast, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Justin Wilson, founder of Fix My Heads, an irrigation company based in Austin, Texas. We got right into what it takes to grow an “unsexy” business, and Justin shared his journey of starting out mowing lawns in high school, briefly attending Baylor, and then recognizing a major opportunity in irrigation repair.
We talked about the misconceptions many people have about needing big equipment and large crews to get into the trades, when in reality, success boils down to building a customer base, specializing in a service that others don’t want to do, and maintaining a good work ethic.
All in all, this episode is packed with actionable insights for anyone running or thinking about starting a service business. Whether you’re a one-person show or managing a growing team. Tune in for practical advice, real-world numbers, and mutual encouragement to keep learning and pushing for that next level.

In this episode, I chat with Paul Ghesquiere, founder of Highland St. Charles, about what it really takes to transform your business and prepare for a profitable exit. Paul’s background in corporate consulting and operations brings a ton of valuable insight for any owner stuck in the daily grind.
We talk about why getting an outside perspective like a fractional COO or CFO can uncover the blind spots that keep you from hitting your potential, and how focusing on your most painful business problems (instead of trying to fix everything at once) is key to real progress. I also share my own experiences with tough calls, like firing clients who dragged down profitability and how documenting processes completely changed my business.
There’s some mastermind talk in here too: I explain why stepping out of your usual routine and collaborating with other business owners is so powerful for growth. Plus, Paul offers listeners free access to his SOP library and a QuickBooks health check.
If you want fresh strategies and honest advice on getting your business running better or getting it ready for a future exit. This episode is packed with actionable takeaways and real-world stories you won’t want to miss.

In this episode, I talk about the recent mastermind event we hosted here in Naples, Florida, where my wife Pam and I brought together two great groups—her interior design business owners and my mix of marketing-minded entrepreneurs. I share why masterminds are so powerful, especially when you gather people from different industries who all face similar business challenges. I touch on the importance of stepping back from your daily grind to actually work on your business and how honest conversations and new perspectives can move you forward. Plus, there’s a fun update about my son Sean joining us and experimenting with animation in our content services. If you’ve been thinking about joining or starting a mastermind, I give my take on why it’s totally worth it and how it can really help you level up. Give it a listen for some stories, insights, and maybe a push to get your own mastermind going.

In this can’t-miss episode of the Driveway Marketing Podcast, Bryan sits down with Jennifer Williams, founder of St. Louis Closet Company, to talk about turning a lightbulb moment into a 34-year legacy.
This is more than just a story of custom closets — it’s about what it really takes to build a business that lasts through 9/11, a recession, a pandemic, and even Midwest tornadoes. From maxing out credit cards to build her MVP (that’s Minimum Viable Product, not our company name — though we love it), to creating a culture so strong her customers become employees, this is a masterclass in resourcefulness, grit, and leadership.

In this episode, I share insights from my book "Stuck on First: The 9 Positions of a Playoff Ready Business," which I wrote nearly 9 years ago while part of the Dan Kennedy community. Drawing parallels between baseball positions and crucial business elements, I break down the nine essential positions every business needs: finding your product, building a fan base, understanding pricing and costs, delivery and scaling, team building, customer experience, sales processes, metrics tracking, and financial management. The book, which has generated over 7 figures in business for me over the last 10 years, is available on Amazon or directly from me for just the cost of shipping. I explain how each position plays a vital role in creating a playoff-ready business, from focusing on value over cost and building scalable systems to investing in team development and creating exceptional customer experiences. Whether you're running a home service business or any other type of company, these principles can help you build the business you want, not just the one you have.

In this episode, I share what I've been up to over the last couple of months with implementing the Working Genius model across my business and family. After introducing the Working Genius concept developed by Pat Lencioni and The Table Group, I explain the six genius types that make up the WIDGET model: Wonder, Invention, Discernment, Galvanizing, Enablement, and Tenacity. I discuss how my entire team and family have taken the Working Genius assessment, revealing interesting insights about our natural tendencies and work preferences. I share personal examples of how understanding these genius types has impacted our business operations, including a recent hire whose TE (Tenacity and Enablement) genius perfectly complements my own ID (Invention and Discernment) tendencies. The episode emphasizes the importance of understanding your strengths and weaknesses as a leader, being open about your frustrations, and allowing team members to utilize their unique genius types to benefit the business. I also discuss how implementing this model has created positive changes in our small team by giving us a common language and framework to discuss work styles and preferences. While this episode takes a step back from specific marketing tactics, it provides valuable insights into how understanding personality types and work preferences can lead to better team dynamics and business success.
