On this edition of Century: The Human Cost. Funding cuts by the US
have triggered major shocks and widespread service disruptions across
harm reduction programs around the world. The International Network of
People who Use Drugs surveyed organizations and service providers last
year to assess the damage done. INPUD conducted a follow-up survey in
May of this year, results of which have been compiled into a report
entitled The Human Cost of Policy Shifts: A World in Turmoil. INPUD
launched the report at a news conference Tuesday July 21. Last week we
heard an overview of the report and remarks from a couple of the
speakers at that news conference. This week we\'re going to hear more
from that news conference, including remarks by Rita Gatonye, Women in
Response to HIV/AIDS and Drug Addiction; Sandra Ka Hon Chu,
Co-Executive Director of the HIV Legal Network; Dr. Michel
Kazatchkine, Global Commission on Drug Policy; and Thea Khoury,
Monitoring and Evaluation for Learning Program Officer at the Robert
Carr Fund. Plus, World Hepatitis Day is observed annually on July 28.
We\'ll hear a message from Dr. Teresa Kasaeva, Director of the World
Health Organization\'s Department for HIV, Tuberculosis, Hepatitis and
STIs.
