To be honest, Counter Play Games didn’t really have much of a chance of releasing a patch that would be well received. Aside from nerfing Meltdown again, there wasn’t really much they could have done two weeks after a patch that would have rallied the support of the community. Sometimes you patch for design space. Sometimes you patch to nerf. Other times you patch simply because you have to anger your user base. To be fair, this is the internet. If we all weren’t doing our best to determine the threshold of misery of those around use we simply wouldn’t be participating properly.
I, for one, hope we can all take this to heart, and remember not to anger the Counter Play gods. Some of us have sinned and forsaken them. It is for this reason we have incited their wrath and they have wrought a plague of desolation on one of the two primary game modes. They have taken our benchmark rewards and used our gauntlet tickets as kindling to warm their cold frozen hearts. Let this be a reminder to all of us. If anyone would like to offer themselves as tribute it would be greatly appreciated. Until then, I will be smearing lamb’s blood on my door frame as a precaution for all future patches.
Also, we are featuring some sweet new music. The intro bumper is by RoccoW, and is a cut from his song Electric Donkey Muscles, and the outro is a cut from Alpha Brutal, Epic Song.

Seasons come and go, the sun rises and sets, and cards live and die all as natural parts of life. Tomorrow will certainly not be like yesterday, and the decks you build will not look like those you built prior to patch 1.83. Primarily because of entropy. You know, that pesky rule of thermal dynamics and card development? The one that basically says we’re all going to die so why bother trying to accomplish anything in life? The one that says everything you know and love will come to an end? I mean, I’m not a physicist, but that’s what it basically means, right? Existence if futile so why even bother!?
Calm down reader. Take it easy. I mean we have a few more moments and patches before we’re all completely crushed under the cold lifeless struggle of mortality. All that to say: design space. Today, we review what once was and what is soon to be. All for the sake of design space. Certainly not for the sake of appeasing the tireless groans of the masses. Absolutely not. None of the cards, which you are likely quite aware of, were modified for quelling the angry hoards looking to crucify the first poor soul walking down the street with a ‘Counterplay Games Staff’ shirt on. No, it was so they can make more cards.
All that to say, listen along as we discuss the largely welcomed changes held within the 1.83 patch, otherwise known as the one that killed the Frankenstein. Meltdown will look up and shout, “Save me!”… and I’ll look down and whisper, “No.”

Trump isn’t the only one that can contradict himself publicly. That’s right, this episode is our try-out for public service. Vote Duelcast in 2017.
Today, we review our review. A few weeks ago we reviewed the cards of the new set, and now we’ve had a good long chance to play with them in an environment where these cards are pretty well integrated. Before we were could only imagine the flavor these ingredients would create. Now, we’ve taken a large bite of the pie we made. Do you know what it tastes like? Humility. Would you like a piece? We’ve had our fair share of salt in the show, but this week we partake of sweet sweet humility. Remember this, we enjoy all the flavors of the rainbow; salty sadness, sweet humility, bitter defeat, umami RNG, and sour plays. Engorge your gluttonous ears as we regale them with the tales of the meek.
As nice as it would be to believe that we’re all the same; we aren’t. It’s just not true. You and me, we’re different. I’m an ugly hideous troll of a man destined to dwell deep within the regret of existence, and you, you’re just a beautiful specimen of a prime species dominating the earth. On top of that you’re dominating the Duelyst meta. Oh, what’s that? You aren’t? Well, then we have a treat for you. There are some decks that you’ll play that will just seem wrong. No matter what you try you’ll be struggling and flailing with failure. Even though you pulled the list from the most recent tournament finalist you get pwnd like a newb every time you pilot it. This week we talk about that very issue, and what you need to do to compensate for it. Git gud nub, and listen up while we talk about why you can’t win any games with that busted meta of a Vanar deck. [Spoiler alert: you’re probably doing it wrong] Listen up as our hosts regale us with thoughts and theories about what it takes to play a deck you didn’t build.
Is Meltdown melting you down? Are spawn eggs appearing all around you and nipping at your heals? Are giant Juggernauts flashing in far too early for your delicate sensibilities? Well, take a break from getting pwnd and listen in to this week’s pod. This week we go over the current state of RNG in the game of Duelyst, and more importantly, how we are responding as a community. Remember, ask not what your game can do for you, but ask what you can do to win the game. Grit your teeth, throw your phone or listening device of choice, and get salty with us. No one is happy, but we will all need to get along and play nice. Remember if you don’t have anything nice to play, don’t play anything at all.
Dang Daniel, back at it again with another Ancient Bonds review. This week we cover the cards we didn’t have during the first review, and get into some of our first impressions of the emerging meta. After having played a few games of the new set we get to talk with a slightly more informed view. We also get into the effects of randomness on the game as whole, and whether this is ruining the game or growing it for the better. Get out your salt shaker, and get ready for the feel bads. For those audiophiles among you please note we used an omni, and have some room hum. Forgive us, and enjoy as best you can
The name’s bonds, Ancient Bonds. Alright, kinda cheesy and obvious, but I’m not getting paid to be especially clever or unique. Everyone that would sit down to write a set recap intro would think of the same joke. You know what, I don’t appreciate the judgement you’re throwing at me. I work all day thinking about ways to make you–the general public–happy and I get nothing in return. Why don’t you give me a break. I reviewed all the cards as soon as I could for you! Do I get any credit for that? No, I just get hate for making one bad opening joke. Anyway, here is our review of the cards released two days before the set dropped. Gosh, ‘the internet’ you can be so hard to deal with sometimes…
Are you tired of the same ‘ol same ‘ol? Are you sick and tired of being sick and tired? Well fret no more, Festivus is here, and it’s time for the airing of grievances. I’ll start. I’ve got a lot of problems with you people! This week join us as we get into the nitty gritty of the present state of Duelyst and what may be its greatest flaw. Stay calm, because the feats of strength are soon to come and if you spend all your energy on your grievances you’ll surely get pinned by a stray Saberspine Tiger. Kevin and Jeremy attempt to restrain Jason from losing his gosh darn mind.
Have you ever wondered what you should do with all those cards in your hand? Should you play them, or just get rid of those pesky options. Well, wonder no more! This week we talk about the replacing your hand like a large drink of lemonade on a hot summer afternoon. Are you feeling oppressed by a card that seems to be glaring you down like the heat of the noon day sun? Wash it away with replaconade. For a mere 5 cents you can have a tall glass of replaconade to cleanse your palette of options. Join Kevin, Jeremy, and Jason as they drink deep and take a break under the shade of victory with replaconade.
Back at it again with another episode of your favorite strategy card game podcast. This week we delve into the latest patch, and what it means for the game. Hosts, Jeremy, Kevin, and Jason discuss the events leading up to the patch, what it means for the evolving meta. Some are more pleased with the changes than others. Join us on this episode of Duelcast.
