Before we jump right into the free agents run through Jay’s Week 9 takeaways. The Browns played a fantastic game while molly whopping the Bengals, but I am still nowhere near sold on Baker Mayfield. The NFL has several quarterbacks that can win football games when they have a good defense and run game like the Browns. The Cowboys came out and laid an egg, but I will give them a pass with Prescott coming off an injury. The Saints went with Trevor Siemian at QB, and it likely cost them a win. Hopefully, Sean Payton comes to his senses and starts Taysom Hill this week. The Raiders played one of their worst games all season, but it was honestly expected after all this team has been through over the past few weeks. The Chargers pulled off a victory over the Eagles, but I am losing faith in them as a true Super Bowl contender. The Hoodie continued to show off his all-time great coaching skills in a dominant win over the Panthers and has his Patriots over .500 with a rookie at the quarterback position the entire season. In the most surprising game of the day, the Jaguars beat the Bills proving that anything can happen in the NFL. The Titans continued their dominance against good teams after handily beating the red-hot Rams. Finally, we have the talk of the NFL, the Kansas City Chiefs just barely squeaking by a Jordan Love-led Packers team. I am not too sure what has happened to Patrick Mahomes, but I am officially starting to worry!

With the Wednesday news that New Orleans WR Michael Thomas was declaring himself out for the rest of the 2021 season, followed by Cleveland WR Odell Beckham Jr. being dismissed from practice, how to rid your Dynasty Owner roster of a high salary player should have been a hot topic of discussion among Dynasty Owners. There was a lot of other news on Wednesday as well with Aaron Rodgers testing positive for COVID followed by the news of his unvaccinated status, plus the sad news about how fast Henry Ruggs was driving on a residential street in Las Vegas when he crashed his car and killed a woman. It was a busy off-day for the NFL and Dynasty Owners with those players on their rosters. The Raiders rid themselves of Ruggs after the incident and Dynasty Owners probably need to do so as well. However, what’s the best way to remove Ruggs or another player, from your Dynasty Owner roster or should you do it at all? It’s not like a regular redraft or dynasty league, in which you make the decision on whether to drop the player and move on. A total of 304 NFL players are on Injured Reserve right now and a total of 472 players have been on it at some point during the 2021 NFL season, according to the NFL Injured Reserve Tracker from our friends at Spotrac. That’s a lot of players! Not surprisingly, the Baltimore Ravens lead the league with 16 players currently on Injured Reserve and a total of 27 at some point this season. Dynasty Owners know all about the season-ending injuries to RBs J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards, but fewer probably know the Ravens currently have 10 defensive players on Injured Reserve. It’s almost an entire defensive team on Injured Reserve alone.

Everybody who plays fantasy football is talking about the fact that six NFL teams are on bye this week and how tough it is to field a team this week. Most of these people are likely playing in traditional dynasty league, or redraft leagues, and maybe have to set a lineup with ten starting lineup spots at most. In some dynasty leagues, teams can have up to 30 players on their roster and don’t have to worry about managing a salary cap. In reality, it shouldn’t be too hard to find ten active and healthy players when you have thirty players to choose from on your roster and 26 active NFL teams. They may not be the “best” players or guys who would ever grace your lineup in a normal, bye-free week, but at least they should play and possibly score some points for your team.
In addition, it’s not like you’re the only team in this situation. Everybody in your league has the same problem. With the Bills, Chargers, Cowboys, Jaguars, Steelers and Vikings on bye, it’s inevitable that both you and your opponent will have a few players on bye this week. The important thing is that you do your best to field a full lineup and try to win your Week 7 games.

Tight ends may not be your favorite topic to hear about, and to be honest they aren’t my favorite, but they are an important position in Dynasty Owner. Hopefully you can find some value in what I’m about to present to you as there is a major opportunity to beat your opponent in this position especially. While others are becoming bored with tight ends, you should be trying to improve it. Your opponent's complacency is your gain. Any edge that you can find over your opponent should be exploited, and I think tight end is one of the most exploitable positions in all of fantasy football.

Thanks for not taking a bye from reading my weekly preview article. Every week of the 14-game Dynasty Owner regular season and three game playoffs, I’ll present a player at each position (QB, RB, WR, TE) who you should have as a Starter in your Dynasty Owner lineup. After that, I’ll name one player per position who should be on your Bench or Practice Squad. With bye weeks, it’s going to be tougher than ever to find those players to Start this week who were clearly drafted to be on your Bench or Practice Squad, or who currently rank outside the Top 12 QBs, Top 24 RBs, Top 24 WRs and Top 12 TEs. For the Bench recommendations, I’ll suggest players drafted to be Starters or who should be in your Starting lineup based on their play so far this season, but who shouldn’t be in there this week based on matchups, past performance against a team or something else.
