Rube however hadn't changed, he wrestled opponents before games, refereed boxing matches, stopped a stadium from burning down and was involved in a train derailment.

There were numerous sources for Rube’s story, he’s now one of the most written about baseball stars of that era. The bible on his life however is Rube Waddell: The Zany, Brilliant Life of a Strikeout Artist by Alan H. Levy. It’s well worth a read.
