In Episode 11, I had the opportunity to talk to Armoni Easley of Project Optimism, Inc.  Easley is a community leader that spends his days empowering youth around the city.  His passion for helping others has driven him to starting a non-profit organization and working with others to branch out all the way to Los Angeles.  His goal is to keep pushing the youth to reach their highest potential and provide opportunities for growth.  Armoni mentions the loss of his father and how that has shaped him into being the man he is.  He was very proud to mention his all time hero, his mother, who has taught him everything he knows.  His passion for living and compassion for others continue to inspire the youth daily.

In Episode 10, I talk to the two talented ladies from Marigold Autism. In Episode 9, I had the pleasure of talking to Ross Roadruck a local artist, teacher and soccer aficionado.  He tells us about his time in school and why he decided to go into teaching art.  Mr. Roadruck talks about how he and his colleagues adapted to teaching art through a chromebook.  He highlights how flexible teachers are and ready to adapt to anything.  Ross and his partner have decided to create a creative space for artists out in Colusa County in Northern California.  This amazing art residency is going to give artists an escape from their daily lives and allow them to do what they do best, create.  Listen to how Ross has tackled this "Stay At Home" order and has put his hands to work.

In Episode 8, I had the privilege of talking to a super teacher from Sinaloa, México.  Angelina Kier was born in Mazatlán, Sinaloa and her life took her to Tijuana where she eventually ended up in the classroom teaching.   She gives us great insights on how education is delivered in México.  Now as a  Spanish teacher here in Sacramento she is able to compare the educational system in two neighboring countries.  We talk about the importance of being bilingual in today's world.  When Angelina is not teaching, prepping, planning, brainstorming and attaining her doctorate degree you can find her in her abundant garden, bee keeping and raising her chickens.  Maestra Kier is a life long learner and takes pride in educating young minds.

In Episode 7, we sit down with an aspiring musician as he shares with us his story and experiences as a young immigrant.  Dev tells us about his experience as a young boy from a village in India coming to the United States and trying to fit in.  He details the culture shock, the struggles of learning a new language and adapting to a new country.  Dev is a popular musician and has travelled to several countries because of his talent and perseverance.  This self taught musician is busy and frequently on the road showcasing his passion, talent and expertise.  Follow him on Instagram @djdholidev.

In Episode 6, we talk to a Sonoma State Alumni who fell in love with art as a child.  This soccer fanatic was born in England and moved a few times before landing in San Diego, Ca.  His love for art started in elementary school while living in North Carolina with his family.  Now Ben is a photography teacher at a middle school/ high school in Sacramento.  His love for art propelled him into teaching it and now during this global pandemic he has made some adjustments.  He wants his students to love what they do and find a passion to follow.  Ben mentions that photography is present everyday in our lives and wants that to resonate with his classes.  He also gives us some easy ways to get into photography and enjoy this life through the lens.   

In episode 4, we talk to a newbie teacher that found her calling.  She mentions some of her experiences along the way and eventually following her passion.  Our guest Eliana, is a recent graduate from the Teacher Credential program at Sacramento State.  Her background is in psychology and she has tons of experience with students and meeting their educational needs.  This new teacher is eager to start her career and knows it will be a challenge during this global pandemic.  She shares with us what obstacles she predicts to face as she heads back to her alma mater to start as a Special Education teacher.  

We have a conversation about how to properly use a planner and effectively manage your time.  Eliana was a student athlete playing both volleyball and soccer during her time in high school and mentions how her planner skills which date back from her middle school days have propelled her to be a great time manager.  Her time management skills have come in handy especially while completing dual credential program, student teaching, working, enjoying her family and attending her social life.  We will check back with her during the school year so she can share her challenges and successes as a brand new teacher during a distant learning period.
