Beauty should be good & safe for you.

Did you know that it only takes our skin 26 seconds to absorb the products & enter into our bloodstream?

This is why it’s so important to research the ingredients of the products that we’re using. Since the beauty industry is not regulated in the same way as the medical industry, product ingredients & percentages are not often shared with the consumers making it hard to determine its safety.

So how would we know if the products that are being used in our favorite beauty services are safe or not?

You should ask your esthetician what products they’re using & you can start your research. In this day & age, where we can find anything on the internet, all it takes is just a few clicks.

Lash/Brow Lift has been among the beauty trends in different parts of the world. In fact, you will see a lot of DIY Lash Lift videos circulating online. Not because you see them getting good results doesn’t mean that it’s safe. It can do more harm than good. Who knows what ingredients are used to make those DIY kits? These came from countries where regulations for beauty products aren’t strict.

So in this episode, I’d like to give you a glimpse of what process and solution we’re using for our lash/brow lifts that we discovered safe & better for our clients.

Not every client is a good candidate for lash extensions or permanent make-up.

Giving your clients the freedom to choose services based on their lifestyle & goals is an important part of your business. As soon as we wake up, we are bound to make a choice - what we’re having for breakfast, the clothes we’re about to wear, where we are going, and the series of choices that we have to make all throughout the day.

So having a variety of options in place for your clients is a good thing. Some clients have thick/full lashes and want something that is simple & low maintenance. If you’re only offering lash extensions in your studio/salon, your client may opt-out of it because lash extensions require maintenance - a fill every 2-3 weeks. Not everyone can make that commitment.

Lash lift & brow lamination are good services to add because they aren’t permanent. They are good for clients who want to try a non-permanent service first before committing to something more permanent. It’s a great way for them to also access whether it looks good on them or not. They can go back to their natural lashes/brows anytime, too.

“Education or learning is not a one size fits all process.”

We all have different learning styles. Some of us are visual, auditory, or kinesthetic learners. Which of these are you? How do you learn best?

Aside from a bunch of decisions that you have to make before taking a lash course, one of the first things you have to think about is whether you’ll go for an in-person or online class. With the global pandemic happening, most of us needed to adapt to learning everything online. We’re used to attending meetings, conferences & training in person but with all that has happened, we have to quickly switch to doing these things online.

Does that mean that online is better than an in-person course? That’s where your learning style & personal circumstances come in. Are there usually lash courses within your area? If none, are you willing to travel? For in-person training, you have to follow a strict schedule of when to take the course. It usually only lasts for 2 days depending on the lash course you’ll take. Imagine getting sick on the day of your course, what do you think will happen? Well, it depends on their policies, whether you’ll get a refund or reschedule your training.

Online classes are usually learning at your own pace. It gives you the resources that you need & allows you to go back & forth to the materials to better understand them. You don’t have to adhere to a certain schedule & force yourself to learn everything in a day or two.

What do you consider the most when you’re about to take a course? The instructor? How much it’ll cost? The teaching style or method? The chance of your success in this field?

In this week’s episode of our Lash Course 101 series, let me help you understand the difference between a private training institute vs. an industry leader.

Some of you might already have a little idea about the difference between these two but if I were to ask you right now, where would you choose to take your lash course? Of course, it’ll be hard to answer if you haven’t weighed the pros & cons of taking a course in a private training institute or an industry leader - like myself.

Think about this as choosing where to have your lashes done. Would you immediately go after a lash studio just because they offer the most affordable price? Of course not! You want to ensure the lash artist is professionally trained, an expert in this craft, has good feedback from other clients & follows all critical protocols.

Your lash artist might be the person I mentioned above but is she also good with people, makes you feel comfortable, gives you proper education on how to take care of your lashes & are you able to reach out to her anytime? Then if she is, I think she’ll be a great choice, right? I want you to look deeper into your options when it comes to taking a lash course - the same as you would when choosing where to get your lashes done.

"Don't do what everyone else is doing."

How popular are lash extensions in your area? Do you often get questions like “What are lash extensions?”

When starting a career in the beauty biz, one of the things you need to take into account is your market - your future clients & competitors. Researching about these things is necessary to guarantee that you’ll earn enough profit when you begin lashing.

So what if in process of your research you found out that there are already a lot of lash artists in your area? Think about this. How many coffee shops do you see every day? If you live in the city, probably on every corner you’ll find a coffee shop. Even in small towns nowadays, you can find coffee shops everywhere. Does that mean that you can no longer open your coffee shop? Absolutely not!

Coffee shops may look the same on the outside but every coffee shop is unique. Some use better coffee beans, have better ambiance, better customer service, better menu, or are more Instagram-worthy. It all depends on what the client/customer is looking for. We all have different preferences and we go to the place that suits us the most. In my case, I prefer decaffeinated coffee and I think not all shops offer that option. So I would definitely go to a shop with decaf coffee even if the other shops taste better. See? That’s how unique markets are.

That’s the same thing in the lash industry. Just because you feel that more & more people are becoming lash artists doesn’t mean that you won’t succeed in being one. If you’re passionate about it then you can find a way to make it work.

Think about what sets you apart from all the other lash artists. What are your strengths? What are you good at? Are you good with people? Do you have an eye for aesthetics? You are unique and you are your own competition. Be confident in what you can offer and see how far your passion & dedication will take you.
