“Success seems to be connected with action. Successful people keep moving. They make mistakes, but they don’t quit.” - Conrad Hilton
We spent our youth studying and preparing for our future careers but not everyone ends up doing their dream job. Some people find it hard to find a career that will make them happy and satisfied. Some people are stuck but are no longer interested in finding another career. They just hold on to it because, for them, it’s the best option.
A global poll conducted by Gallup has uncovered that out of the world’s one billion full-time workers, only 15% of people are engaged at work. That means that an astronomical 85% of people are unhappy in their jobs. (Source, StaffSquared)
Did you know that an average person spends 90,000 hours of their life working? That’s 10 straight years. Imagine spending this much time on a career you’re not happy about. For the amount of time it takes away from your family, friends, and yourself, aren’t we supposed to choose a career that’s worth it?
Although in the beginning, I would say it’s definitely okay to try and figure out what you want. That means going for every opportunity you think is worth trying. No experience is ever wasted. You either succeed or learn. Part of the learning process is doing various things to finally determine what will make you happy.
Don’t be afraid to fail and try again. Real failure is not trying at all. When you try something and failed, it means you gained an important lesson. That’s the beauty of being young. You get to try different things, make mistakes and learn from them. That’ll eventually make you understand which among those things make your heart skip with happiness and excitement.
Many of us struggle to find a career we love and so I decided to talk about it in this week’s podcast episode. This episode is full of tips and my personal insights on how we can find a career that’ll be worth spending 10 years of our life with.
