In the past 2 years of working with one to one clients, one of the most shocking discoveries for me was realizing how many people healing from religious harm are also dealing with the wounds from narcissistic abuse.
Many of my clients don't realize that the behavior of their parent, their partner, or their pastor that left such deep self-worth wounds has a name and even a diagnosis.
Understanding what narcissistic personality disorder is, why it likely develops, and how their hot-and-cold behavior and their cutting criticism has NOTHING to do with your worthiness as a person (even though they repeatedly told you it does) can be so liberating.
Also, since high-demand religions are often started and perpetuated by people with NPD, it's worth exploring what narcissistic traits look like so that we can begin to more easily spot abusive ideas and behaviors in our religious systems and disentangle ourselves from the lingering harmful beliefs about ourselves, other people, and the world that often keep us from moving forward.

The underlying mindset we have about our inherent worth and acceptability can make a big difference in how we experience growth for the year.
There is a big difference in the mindset of "I need to change so that I am worthy of love" vs "I love myself so I want to change."
In this episode, we explore the addictive and cyclic nature of chasing approval especially at New Year's and what often leads us to abandon our goals and embrace our coping patterns as we move forward.
We discuss how this cycle likely began, its function now, and how we can begin to get off of the merry-go-round and root into self acceptance exactly as we are.
This self acceptance gives us the freedom and courage to flow with the mistakes that are an integral part of the learning process, course correct easily, and feel good about ourselves now and as we move forward.

I can't believe this is the last episode of season 1! How did this year go by so fast?
As we wrap up 10 months of discussions and healing, it's so important to take some time and celebrate our wins along the journey.
Celebrating creates momentum. It lights a fire underneath us. And when it comes to healing religious trauma, a little spark in the dark can go a long way.
In this episode, we discuss why celebrating ourselves is so important and why sharing our celebrations with others not only helps us go further, but brings others on the journey with us.
Because I know the idea of celebrating ourselves can sometimes bring up subconscious religious limiting beliefs about vanity, arrogance, modesty, and humility, we also discuss the difference between arrogance and celebration.
I have loved getting to share and celebrate your wins with you this year and look forward to many more throughout the holiday season and into 2022!
The best is ahead of us.
But there the so much to celebrate now in the present.
I hope you'll take the time to give yourself the celebration you deserve.

One of the biggest sources of overwhelm, guilt, and even shame as we go through religious transition is the word "should".
Coming from high demand religion, many of us have a pile of "shoulds" that we've been striving to meet our whole lives. Now that we're deconstructing, and especially during the holiday season, these shoulds can become a heavy burden.
In this episode, we discuss why we likely continue to "should" on ourselves and why this behavior is likely doing more harm than good in our pursuit of growth and change.
We talk about how to use our "shoulds" as red flags that help us hear what we actually desire and then change our language and our thinking into a more empowering force behind the things we want to change and accomplish in life.

As humans, we are wired for connection.
Without a sense of connection we begin to wither both emotionally and physically.
When we go through deconstruction, we often feel lonely because we don't feel fully seen, accepted, and understood by the friends and family we once felt close to.
In this episode, we explore the differences between fitting in and belonging and how we can begin to anchor into self acceptance as a foundation for greater belonging in our lives.
