We have already graduated a cohort of 18 Spanish speaking people from 5 countries who received 33 hours of psychoeducational content. We named them "The hope fellowship," and we are proud to say that so far none of them have contracted the COVID-19! Maybe because they are following safety guidelines or they are more assertive to offer and ask for social distancing. In general, they seem to have increased their resilience and are more willing to host difficult conversations with their loved ones.

We thought we were done, but it is now when more Latino families are contracting COVID-19, more families are being left behind in medical and psychological services. The demand is increasing tremendously.

Now, we want to continue to provide these free sessions to our Latino community. And we need your financial support for this. Panic, Anxiety, stress, depression, and insomnia levels are on the rise again with more cases than ever in our Latino community in all those countries.

With your help, more Spanish speaking and bilingual low-income immigrants who are in need and cannot afford proper care will receive psycho-education and services at a free or reduced cost. People with trauma, anxiety, depression, etc. will have access to services on campus (when permitted), and/or psychotherapy and psycho-education, or via telehealth on mobile devices.

Emotions in Harmony is a non-profit organization in San Jose, California that aims to eliminate mental health disparities experienced by bilingual and Hispanic immigrants by providing supportive and comprehensive psychological tools and services. This non-profit organization is a resource designed to empower and remedy the health inequities faced by these vulnerable populations.

Addressing these vulnerable populations has been possible through Emotions in Harmony's practical and informative discussions of psychological issues through podcasts, live videos, and direct psychological services; additionally, we have been providing psychoeducational groups free of charge or for very low cost during COVID-19.

When given high-quality mental health services and information, people tend to commit fewer suicides, tolerate less abuse, and overcome their trauma to live more productive lives. However, many would never be able to pay for psychological treatment in the Bay Area. With your help, many families will find hope, harmony, and even happiness in particular in this crisis due to COVID-19.

We hope that you will join us to impart empowerment and personal growth to undocumented, low-income, and under-served Spanish speaking and bilingual families in order to spark harmony.

Thank you for your consideration and help. For more information, please check Emotions in Harmony's website: https://emotionsinharmony.org/

  • US Immigration: What are the correct steps to follow?

For many years people have been moving around in search of a better job and economic opportunities, quality of life, or studies, in other cases they do it to escape problems, terrorism, and abuse. However, despite the years of this practice, the population continues to be uninformed about many aspects of the issue, leading them to make mistakes regarding the relevant formalities and procedures or simply resigning themselves to not take the step they want.

We want to dedicate this episode to immigrants, especially to our beautiful Latino community that seeks to improve itself day by day, since as it is a high-volume population that practices immigration frequently, many governments become saturated and it takes a lot of work to tend to all cases quickly.

My recommendation is that you look for a professional immigration attorney to support you in your case because not all are the same and there are multiple conditions that enable or disable you to classify in different categories.

Surely now you have to ask yourself, How do I know which lawyer to hire?... To address some frequently asked questions, I bring you a wonderful interview with lawyer Kristin Boscia who at the beginning of her career dedicated her time to an organization that helps victims of violence, later she specialized in immigration issues and nowadays she works with immigration cases, so you can educate yourself a bit on the subject and be aware of how to prepare for the immigration process and what you should know about the lawyer before hiring one. Remember that one of the most important things is that the lawyer you choose supports you as long as necessary, even when the case is complicated.

Kristin Boscia is an Attorney at law who specializes in helping immigrant families.

After law school, Kristin worked at the Bay Area's largest provider of civil legal services where she represented low-income immigrant survivors of domestic violence.

In 2012, Kristin opened her own practice and since then, she has been dedicated to helping clients identify their best option for remaining legally in the U.S. and helping bring other family members to live in the U.S.

  • Changes in The Cleaning Industry

Now that we are slowly beginning to integrate back into the outside world, we must keep in mind the new sanitary rules that will help us stay safe.

The habit of washing our hands frequently, not touching our faces and keeping a safe distance from other people will help maintain our health at its best in this situation.

These rules will not only follow us when we go outside, but it is also important to maintain some of them inside our houses and to make a few changes to our cleaning routine

Today we talk a little about how important it is that the house cleaners and all the workers that help to keep all the public and private areas clean are back to work, and what are the new routines they will be following.

  • Let's End Systemic Racism

Having an ideology of superiority in relation to other people is humiliating and feeling it just because of being a different race or having a different skin color is even more outrageous. This time we will talk about a topic that many people thought only happened back in the time of slavery and that was overcome many years ago. But this is not the case, unfortunately, today our society still suffers from racism, and right now we are experiencing strong waves of protests due to a specific event that triggered everyone's alarms, giving the spotlight to the accumulation of these acts that are usually hidden from the public light.

An act of racism is an act of violence and beyond generating pain, anger, and frustration, it transcends creating an intergenerational trauma where despite the fact that an ancestor was the one who suffered the original trauma, the new generations drag it with their genes, feeling less than the rest due to discrimination, prejudice, and marginalization.

The reflection that we can individually make is to question ourselves a little and think, "When and with whom have I been a racist?" Perhaps if the answer was with yourself, then the next step is to continue educating yourself to process this, either through therapy, meditation, artistic expressions, or some other healthy activity that helps you drain negative emotions.

Am I taking good care of myself and my loved ones?

Over the last few weeks, we've talked about our hopes, gratefulness, and reflections about the current situation. But now it's time to focus on ourselves, how have these weeks of confinement affected your moods?

Have you noticed that you get angry more easily? Or maybe you get tired often?

  • Home Shelter Week 4: Opening our Hearts

While being confined, think about all the good things in your life. You have a house (or a place to stay in), food, your family, a good internet connection, and much more!

Be grateful for all of this, but also, be grateful for all the people that make this quarantine bearable.

For example, that pizza place that is making deliveries, and all their staff.

People who work in healthcare, constructions, and the food industry are risking their lives to save lives. So when you encounter one, make your gratefulness visible!

This is definitely not the time to play small.
