I am often asked what has been attributed to my successful corporate and business careers. For me that answer is simple. It has always been about the client's journey and experience. To create this safe environment for my clients I had to become really good at developing my communication skills.

About 35 years ago I was trained in a behavioral model called DiSC. DiSC is a behavioral model introduced and used since the early 1900s. I became so enamored with DiSC that eventually I got certified. What's the importance of this story?

Recently I was asked how I built a life and business that I still love today. WOW, did that make me pause? I never thought about simultaneously building a life and business at the same time. I think for me I had never thought of the two areas of my life as separate.

As I reflect on major life events, I realize the profound impact they have had on how I see the world and respond to it. One of those crossroads for me was when I turned 39. I had two babies at home, chose to leave my safe full-time job and start my business. I'd say that's a major crossroad…right?

For example, just shy of 3 years ago we moved and the first thing I did after the movers left was to hang a floral wreath on the front door and put our welcome mat on the entry steps. My husband thought I was crazy, making that a priority over all the boxes that were piled high throughout every room in the house. All I said to him was I just needed the front of the house to be welcoming.

About 6 months later I was part of a zoom networking event and one of the women on the call spoke about Feng Shui. Not knowing much about this topic, I mentioned our moving day and my need to decorate the front door and entry. Apparently having a welcoming entry is a Feng Shui thing.
