One of my goals in 2018 is to launch a large comprehensive course that has a value of about $10,000 for online business owners. I say 10 grand because if I want to charge $1,000, the course better be worth 10X. 

So, in order to prep for that course, I am testing some things on Udemy. I'm using my Udemy courses to generate some money while I plan for the big course, and I want to get really good at the technology before I get into planning and plotting the larger course.

Hello Everybody! 

I hope everybody had a Merry Christmas or happy holiday, or a good long weekend. 

I'm desperate to find out how I can get cheap books in bulk in order to read all the books I'm aiming to (speed) read in the coming year. 

Any ideas? The public library has tons of great books, but their business selection isn't great, and it doesn't look like it's going to work as a money and time saver. 

Also, I'm going to start using the Best Self Journal this week to try and get a bit more productivity out of my days! I might give out some more info on that to my email list, not to mention the massive prizes I am giving away to my list!

Okay, so Day 3 of speed reading was my first dud. Blue Ocean Shift just didn't really teach me anything new. 

Maybe it's because the book is too deep for a speed read, or maybe it's principles just aren't for a solopreneur. The lessons were basically regurgitated theories that I've learned in at least 5 other places. Again, that could be because the book is so influential and powerful that it's inspired tons of people. 

But the fact remains that if I had spent the time to really dig into this one, I would have been very disappointed.

Day 2 of speed reading and I'm getting a little better. 

The book I read was The One Thing by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan. It's a book I've heard a lot about, and that I see referenced all over the place. 

Pretty good book. It echos the idea from Cal Newport's Deep Work that one of the most importnat aspects of productivity is finding a distraction free zone, letting everyone know not to disturb you, and focusing on one thing that drives your business forward. 

I'm going to start implementing the time blocking method from the book today, which basically says that instead of using your time blocking as a way to check things off of a list, use it to block off 4 hours to focus solely on the One Thing that will knock down all of the other dominoes in your business.

It worked! I created a guide that helps entrepreneurs create their LLCs and save a lot of money, and I became an Amazon Bestselling Author in the process!

My goal in creating this book is to have something that's extremely valuable for entrepreneurs, my target audience. But it's also to create some credibility in the form of becoming an author of a great step-by-step guide, and having a nice piece of content that I can eventually use in a larger physical book that can be used in a free + shipping offer down the road.

Becoming a bestselling author is not that hard. Sometimes all it takes is 5-10 people buying or downloading your book on the first day to get the title! 

The key here is to niche down like crazy, and understand the difference between becoming an author and a writer. 

I met a guy (on Facebook, of course) that has 12 guides for nursing students on Amazon. My Guess is that his books all average under 50 pages. But here's the deal - they are all extremely focused and provide a ton of value for the readers. He's sold over 100,000 books on Amazon! 

You don't sell that many books unless your stuff is valuable. So if you have some valuable knowledge, and can write 20 pages, you can do what he has done!
