In January 2023, 18-year-old Alexee Trevizo went to an emergency room in New Mexico for severe back pain. While there, she secretly gave birth in a hospital bathroom, placing the newborn in a trash bag. When hospital staff discovered the baby, it was too late—the child had died. Alexee initially claimed she didn’t know she was pregnant, but later investigations revealed she had been aware for months.

She was charged with first-degree murder and tampering with evidence, sparking debates about teenage pregnancy, mental health, and responsibility. The case is ongoing, with Alexee’s defense arguing she acted out of panic and shock. But she has yet to be convicted or punished for any of her actions.
