It's the beginning of August and my opportunity to speak with Ellen Bayens of theceliacscene.com to chat about the articles she has brought to our attention over the past month.
I was happy to let Ellen step up on her soapbox to talk about how unsafe gluten free food is when it's prepared within a gluten bakery. This seems to be happening more often lately, even though we recognize that the food certainly doesn't meet our normal standards for gluten free. Consumers are driving this trend, so it would seem it's something we can change.
We also spoke about the value of Registered Dieticians who specialize in celiac disease. The name Selena DeVries came up as someone who understands our struggles first-hand and is there to help.
Ellen mentioned a few of my recent podcasts including 5 Tips for Cruising Gluten Free, my conversation with Miski Brewing about their quinoa-based beer, and on my other podcast, my co-host Aaron's struggles with EOE – a condition that is more common in the celiac community.
