BSS Podcast Ep. 52 – Doing what’s right at all costs

Mike and Ryan talk this week about the importance of consistently doing the right thing over time can lead to big things down the road.

Mike shares his experience of starting his new company, EC Grading and Demo. Through reputation earned over the years of doing the right things, consistently, had earned him business with his new company. They knew, liked and trusted him that he wouldn’t be a fly by night operation.

What are the “right” things? Showing up on time, returning calls, acting professional, personable and all the small details that can form an opinion of yourself and business.

Do not minimize the impact of doing what’s right, even if it costs you money on the short term.

Ryan shares his real life experience of dealing with a contractor on a bathroom remodel. Broken promises, missed appointments and expectations left him with a sour taste in his mouth for quality of work as well as this particular contractors business in general. It was one bad experience after another which ultimately left the worst impression with Ryan. The unfortunate reality of all of this, is if he did a stellar job, the continuing and future business, referalls coming down the pipeline would have been six figures in the next 12 months.

Bottom line, take ownership for better or worse of your work. There is always referall business around the corner and you don’t want to be on the DO NOT HIRE list!
