The Montreal Canadiens, fresh off their best game of the season rolled into New York and promptly played one of their worst defensive games of the year in response. While the team lost 7-4 to the Rangers, there was plenty of diamonds to be found in the pile of coal on Thursday night. Cole Caufield broke out of his goal-scoring drought with two goals and one more assist to keep the Habs even remotely in the contest. However, the biggest story of the night belongs again to Juraj Slafkovsky, who set a Canadiens record as the first teenager to have a point in seven straight games. Despite the outcome, both hosts found plenty to be excited about on Thursday.

The day also got off to an exciting start with a rumoured trade of Jake Allen to the Colorado Avalanche. While insiders quickly denied that there was any such deal in place, the smoke still seems to be growing thicker around a potential move. Pierre LeBrun also mentioned that the New Jersey Devils are desperate for a stable goaltending option, and that they might be the most likely spot for Allen as the Trade Deadline approaches.
