Cybersecurity breaches are becoming increasingly common in today’s business world. During this podcast episode, we delved into the most challenging cybersecurity risks that companies encounter, explored the effects of attacks on computer systems, and discussed strategies for safeguarding businesses against cyber attacks.

In his leadership role, Julian helps clients develop their security strategy in the context of the cyber business risk that they face; he has a particular focus on advising boards on the potential business impact of cybersecurity by quantifying cybersecurity risk in financial terms.

Julian is passionate about attracting talent into the cybersecurity profession and is a member of the UK National Cyber Security Centre’s Industry Advisory Board for their CyberFirst programme. Julian is IBM’s executive sponsor for the Charter of Trust, a unique initiative by leading global companies to secure the digital world and a member of the FAIR Institute Industry Advisory Group.

Julian has been assisting governments to raise awareness of the business risk posed by the cyber security threat since 2005 and has lectured both at Oxford University’s Said Business School and Centre for Doctoral Training on Cybersecurity, and at Warwick University’s MSc Course on Cybersecurity and Management.

Mercedes Barrachina Fernandez works as SAP Security Innovation Lead at IBM Security (SAP Center of Competence in Europe). She has more than 12 years of experience working in the SAP Security space and leading projects in many different countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Japan, Russia and Peru. Mercedes has management and hands-on experience implementing multiple SAP solutions, such as SAP GRC, SAP Audit Management, SAP Fraud Management, SAP Enterprise Threat Detection, etc. Now she is getting also hands-on experience working in the SAP Business Technology Platform in the scope of developing assets that can help clients to implement and enhance their security strategy. She has lectured in different universities about the usage of technology in the decision-making process or the application of data to train machine learning models to increase the IT security in the companies.
