Sid Sexton and Keith Glines in this episode talk about the book “The Great Game of Business” We all have “gameified” other areas in life. For example, have you ever created a game in order to get your kids to do something like, clean their room, potty train, or do their homework? Why did you do that? Because kids like to win. Well guess what, adults like to win too. Every human being on planet earth likes to win.
Therefore, we need to create a scoreboard for our business so our teams can know if they are winning or losing. When people know what winning and losing look like they have an internal drive to be winners.
"People who run companies know that they are only two critical factors in business. The first is to make money and the other is to generate cash....everything else is a means to that end."What the guys dig into from Great Game of Business is that all about starts with how you treat people. If people do not like the team they are on then they will quit the team.
One of the major business myths that is ingrained deeply in business culture that the guys talk about is “Nice guys finish last” meaning business leaders think they have to be jerks to succeed when in reality it’s the exact opposite. Keith says, "Some of the best business people I know are the nicest people." Then Sid goes onto to say later in the episode, “When you treat people badly you lose power.” The guys dig into how to treat your employees and how to pull the greatness out of them. Because your company is only as great as your employees.
“People perform to the bar you (the leader) set for them--not the bar they set for themselves…Set bars for people that stretches them to who you know they can be not what they think they are."Other things the guys talk about are: educating your employees, how to create a bonus structure and more.
