On this week's episode we are joined by Matt Seidel, Product Manager at onX Hunt. We delve deeply into the world of onX Maps, a digital mapping platform built for the outdoors person. 

Matt and I discuss the different products offered by onX Maps as well as the specifics respective to each offering. We explore how this digital mapping platform can be put into use and immediately improve the effectiveness of your scouting and hunting methods.

An avid hunter, Matt provides a weatlh of experience utilizing onX maps from its early stages up until the lastest release. Matt has a bag full of tricks when it comes to using onX Maps from saving and storing maps to utilizing the offline mode when you leave the grid in pursuit of your favorite wild birds.

Output is only as good as the input which is why I specifically asked Matt about their data collection methods and how they ensure that users of onX maps have the most up to date and accurate information available.

The offline mode is of great interest and value to me which is why Matt and I had a particular lenghty discussion surrounding this topic. With a bit of planning and preparation its possible to quite easily download the areas you plan to hunt or scout prior to your trip. When you leave cellular coverage with a downloaded map, it's like you never even left. The GPS receiver on our phones will contine to work even without cell coverage and the downloaded basemap will ensure you have the ability to navigate effectively and efficiently. We also touch on the airplane mode hack that allows you to save a ton of battery life while still maintaining an accurate postion on your base map.
