Speaking with Confidence with Cat Matson: communication coaching for humble leaders

Episode 53. Balancing Telling vs Inviting

Listen Later

There's a fine line we walk when we're trying to convince people to take action. And when we get so passionate, enthusiastic and even earnest about helping people, we can come across as 'telling', instead of ‘inviting'. And, as anyone who's ever tried 'telling’ anyone anything, you know it's not the most effective way to get people to take action.
In this episode I'll talk through some simple techniques to help you temper your enthusiasm so you can ‘invite’ rather than tell; how to use stories to do the inviting for you and how to use silence and space to give space for your audience to 'step in’ to your offer.
